An 8-Day Cycling Adventure From Tokyo to Kyoto

"There were memorable stays in new-to-me cities like Takayama (dubbed 'mini-Kyoto,' without the crowds), where, in the sleek Hotel Wood, you find yourself immersed in the onsen with the same people you've been riding with, except you're all now naked."

I loved my stay here, if I could I would’ve stayed here my whole trip but ended up bouncing back and forth to Tokyo for the sake of the airport. Very clean room, great housekeeping, comes with all your toiletries and the room was great. Only complaint is that the AC would lock at 25 degrees Celsius but this may have been user error since I can’t read Japanese and only knew how to adjust the temp in the moment

A strong contender for one of the best in 5 hotels I stayed in on my 3 weeks trip to Japan.||As mentioned in other reviews. The room was quite spacious and having two beds for a solo meant I had good access to my suitcase during my 4 nights. Two people, however, may still have little room to move. Such are Japanese hotel rooms.||The easy access to ice, water and soft drinks was a very nice touch after arriving back from a day on your feet with a few snacks to enjoy. It is a pity the lobby is almost always full of luggage though. They need a storage room.||Location was very good. I liked walking over to the food area to the east (sorry I forget, Sanjo area). The little streets filled with restaurants was great. You can walk to Nishiki market in minutes. ||I did miss having a Konbani right under my hotel (all my other hotels did) but it is a minor point.||Everything was well cleaned and supplied.||Why 4 stars. Well...I left a item of some £75 in value in the room. There is no doubt I left it there as it was not something I took out with me and my luggage was well searched at the next hotel room and when I returned. I immediately contacted the hotel to post it on to me but they said it was never found. ||Disappointing. I have warned them I will be mentioning this in a review.

Terrible!! The window is made of frosted glass, and there is a wall outside, making the room dim and cramped. Entering the room feels like entering a cave, extremely oppressive! The windows cannot be opened, resulting in poor indoor air quality. The ventilation system is a mystery. The odor from the bathroom cannot be eliminated. It started to stink the night Rujia arrived, but it also brought in the food odor from somewhere! The room type also has significant defects (the same room type displayed on the booking page does not like this). Regarding this issue, the protruding part by the window is connected to the bed. To open or close the curtains by the window, you have to step over the bed! Is this training hurdlers? This is crazy! Who will be responsible for the muscle strain??

Usually i don’t leave reviews but this place got me because of one things happened.. first its super clean,i mean super super clean, the premises looks cozy and rooms are amazing, they have washing machine inside the room and iron so if you plan to wash some cloths this is good time since its rare to have such thing in Japan, the cleaning lady followed me to room after her clean cycle and ringed the bell just to see my thoughts. How im not supposed to give them 5?? They have cozy coffee area where you can wait a bit also the place itself is nearby almost all best attractions and subways so its great.

We had a fantastic stay at Oakwood. The staff were super nice and helpful, the room was really nice and quiet. The breakfast buffet had a great selection. The location was great as well. We would definitely stay here again.

Good location. 10-20 min walk to Gion district, Nishiki market...|Our room was super small, like a square box with a Queen bed. this was the only hotel in our Japan trip (4 cities) that had a Queen. All other hotels offered King beds. We are not big people but the Queen was not comfortable. Room was simple and clean. |Overall, we liked the location (quiet) but would not stay here due to the size of the room and bed (for the price we paid).|PRO: They offered free water/coffee.tea/green tea in the lounge/breakfast area.

Goto and his team were excellent! Goto helped us while we were staying in Kyoto and had such wonderful recommendations. We loved this hotel and on the last day, they had just gotten Japanese sake for purchase and we loved it. The hotel is in a great location, clean and near the market/lots of cool smaller artisan shops. 100% would recommend!

Modern hotel located in a quiet area. Near 24hr supermarket, bakery cafe and 7/11. 5 blocks away from the main shopping area, subway is about 10 mins walk, few stops away from Kyoto station on the redline. Room is clean, bedding is comfy, twin room is small. Cannot open the window, there is no view, bathroom has no window, the extractor fan in the shower doesn’t work or too weak, my room had a bad smell from the humidity, I needed to leave the A/C on to dry the room out. 2 capsules of Nespresso in the room. Complimentary coffee and tea in a pot from 12 - 22:00 at the lobby, a bit disappointing cos we could not take it in the morning or evening after dinner. Complimentary toiletries are limited, just some basic things. All the receptionists are great, English 👍.
