The iconic 1835 lookout tower at the Cliffs of Moher, built by Cornelius O’Brien — a local landlord with a flair for eccentric “tourism projects” who believed bringing visitors here would “benefit the people and bring cash into the area.” Climb to the top for panoramic views of the Atlantic, the Aran Islands, and Connemara on a clear day.
Worth knowing: outside of official opening hours, the gates are open — you can visit before 8am or after closing for free. It’s quieter then too, without the crowds, which makes the experience even more special.
During the day there’s a entry fee that covers carpark, entry to tower and visitors centre, but the views (and the photos) are hard to beat.
