Wonderful views and the interactive exhibits in the museum were really impressive. Our guide Gerardo, (aka Jerry) who showed us around the old meteorology building, was helpful and friendly. A great way to spend an afternoon.

What a gem. This place is perched on a hill overlooking the city and harbor of Mazatlan. The views are spectacular! The staff are friendly and helpful. Food and beverages are available and come with a great view. Be prepared for ramps and stairs everywhere. Not handicapped friendly.

Wife and I thought it would be fun to see and it didn’t disappoint. Very interesting and informative. They even have a black toucan, never heard of it before and he was cool. Went on a Thursday morning and no wait

Visiting Observatorio 1873 in Mazatlán was one of the highlights of our trip. The entire place is absolutely beautiful, a perfect mix of nature, history, and breathtaking views. From the moment we arrived, we were surrounded by lush greenery and fascinating wildlife. We saw iguanas, colorful parrots, peacocks, flamingos, and so many other amazing animals up close. It felt like a peaceful escape right in the middle of the city. The observatory itself is rich in history. We learned so much about Mazatlán’s past, including information on local marine life like whales and tortoises. Every part of the property was well-maintained and thoughtfully designed to offer a fun and educational experience. One of our favorite parts was the café it was such a charming place to take a break, enjoy a drink, and soak in the incredible panoramic views of the ocean and city. Whether you're a nature lover, history buff, or just looking for something unique and relaxing to do in Mazatlán, Observatorio 1873 is a must-visit. We had such a fun and memorable time and would absolutely recommend it to anyone visiting the area.

A nice museum with lots to see. There was a wedding in progress so didn't get to see the cacao area. The funicular ride is interesting and you will definitely get great views from anywhere.

The staff were amazing. We enjoyed the video at the beginning, explaining the history of Mazatlan. We happen to be there on a Sunday and I got to enjoy their brunch in the restaurant. I wish we had had a way to translate the cacao ceremony. Even without really knowing what was going on, it was a very fun thing to experience. Everything was beautifully kept with lots of plants and animals to view. The whale museum was interesting with the largest collection of whale skeletons I’ve ever seen.

Arrived at 10, opening, and no wait, no crowds. It’s 500 pesos for adults so we declined to visit a few days ago, returning after we were encouraged by some locals. They jam a lot into a small space: history movie, funicular ride, historic house museum, iguana and tortoise exhibit, interactive exotic bird exhibit (they land on you) including some flamingo (they don’t land on you), a rooftop bar, beautiful landscaping and a whale museum made of repurposed shipping containers. The whale museum tries a little too hard to be a high-tech interactive textbook rather than an effective natural history interpretive program. I don’t see how kids will enjoy it much except maybe the final audiovisual segment, but the overall package is worth it and the setting, landscaping and live animals make the whole experience a lot of fun.
