Obsidian Wine Co. | Base Camp (Tasting Room)

The good stuff: Great little tasting room right on the Sonoma Square, and walk-ins are welcome, which is a gift in this area. The team is genuinely friendly, the kind of people you immediately root for. The Hungarian oak angle is legitimately cool and gives the place some personality. Prices are fair for Sonoma (+/-), and the Boon Fly’s Hill Chardonnay is quietly excellent if you lean white. Where it slips: The wines themselves are fine. I’d drink them again, but none of them broke into song for me. Maybe they’re still in their youthful phase. Food is limited to nuts. Totally acceptable, but in Sonoma a little more helps keep the energy going. Final take: I wanted this place to unleash full Hungarian greatness. Instead, it offered a polite smile and a nice afternoon. Still worth visiting, easy to like, and absolutely worth popping into if you’re strolling the square, but not quite the full Magyar magic I hoped for.

We stumbled upon this place off a side road and we're sure glad we did. We already love Obsidian Ridge wines but it was nice to try almost the entire range. Gwen was extremely knowledgeable and hospitable and made the experience truly memorable. Hungarian Oak and fresher style, you can't go wrong with these unique wines and beautiful tasting room.

My husband have popped in Obsidian many times and always have a lovely experience. The tasting room has such a welcoming atmosphere with a great bar area and the outside area is a wonderful space to enjoy some sunshine and delicious wine. We most recently stopped by on Monday to do a tasting for the first time since it was a quiet day on the square. We ended up spending an hour or so enjoying a tasting with Gwen and Douglas who were working the tasting room that day. They were friendly, knowledgable about the wine, and we had a great time chatting with them! Highly recommend a stop at Obsidian, you won't regret it!

Nice wine tasting experience, borderline 5 stars to me. The wines were good but not exceptional to my taste but it was compensated by the great stylish interior of the tasting room and a great atmosphere of the garden where you can sit and enjoy their wines. The price to quality ratio was reasonable

The service is always exceptional and so is the wine. I love the ambiance and that we can bring our dog! We always recommend the winery, and our friends loved it so much they bought 6 bottles. Keep experimenting with the wine and offering this top notch experience. I hope you can start offering bites soon!

There is no food, but my wife and I ate up the conversation. The facility provided a chess board made from their own Hungarian oak (made by none other than our server’s husband) which was such an added bonus that my wife and I did NOT expect. The atmosphere was so relaxed, and our server, Gwen, was so incredibly friendly and knowledgeable about all the various wine selections and her ready-to-go facts about the history of Obsidian wines was very impressive. My wife and I had a wonderful time and recommend Obsidian wines for your next tasting!

We stopped in for a tasting Friday night and were fortunate to have Gwen as our guide. She was extremely knowledgeable about the wines—both what was in the bottle as well as how it was made—which made an excellent experience even better. The wines were awesome. We sampled 6 different things that all were memorable, even on a trip focused on wines. Two thumbs up for Obsidian!

We had amazing tasting with Ed! We were able to walk in and enjoy a flight. The wines were so unique and tasty. So much so that we joined their wine club! Highly recommend!
