Wow! Fantastic and amazing place to get something for house decoration to personal gift to friend and family. So many excellent items display. Strongly recommend to stop by if you are in the town. Worth to visit.

Cool store with a great selection of gifts. Lots of unique cards. The employees were selective with who they allowed to use the bathroom. I was not one of the lucky few even though I was a paying customer smh.

CUTE unique store. It has a little bit of tasteful products and items : from soaps to Jewelry to figurines, resin boards, trivets, dish towels, etc etc etc.

Google
Beautiful shop, excellently curated product, a go-to for gifting. Broad selection of cards & candles, cute Etsy worthy party novelties, some tableware, jewelry, boutique body lotions & balms, small purses, and trinkets. Beautiful selection of decorative/printed paper in back, as well as faux succulents, and a children's section.

Update: Love this store! However, I would advise not buying a certain type of earring from them, it's a thin metal earring (I'll attach a picture), and they're $50 for a set. My mom only owned a set for a year before it broke completely because of how thin it was, which is a huge bummer because they're not cheap... and of course I bought her another pair for Christmas since I didn't know the first pair broke - so the new pair is bound to break as well. Adorable store with something for everyone. I enjoyed the mix of sassy and sweet cards, and they had great stationary, jewelry, candles, toys, etc. Their Philly section at the front was nicely curated too. The person who helped me check out was super nice and calm, which was the perfect vibe for the store. The only thing I can think of that would take this store up just a notch (it's already high up there!) is having a small and specifically curated section showcasing local artisans. I'm sure they had some locals, but not really anyone I recognized (could be my lack of knowledge though). It's always beautiful when a small business store front helps out local tiny businesses. Would definitely shop here again!

My favorite place to get gifts for family and friends! Huge selection of cards and friendly staff. You can also purchase gift bags and they will prepare your gift with tissue paper! Visited recently and they have a huge Halloween collection. I’m excited to go back!

Google
This indie card store is in my top 3 in Philly. Another card store in Brooklyn (called Measure Twice) recommended them to me when I first moved to town. There's some kitschy-cool gift for everyone on your list and every occasion. They offer local artisan wares and indie stationery/card options. I've enjoyed their regional offerings as well as even items for our kitchen. My one complaint is that there isn't a location in my neighborhood! They have a rewards program, so take advantage of this as you purchase the cutest, most spot-on cards for the loved-ones on your list!

Yelp
Such a fun store and a great place for unique gifts or even something fun for yourself! They had plenty of great holiday items, fun cocktails mixing goodies, cool greeting cards and so much more! It was a little crowded when we went but it is the holiday season and was on a nice sunny Saturday- I was happy to see people out and about! Definitely add Occasionette to your list of places to shop this holiday season!

Yelp
What a kookie store - I love it. I stopped in looking for some quirky gifts, and I was not disappointed. There's something here for people of all ages (yes, including some onesies!), and their selection is very unique. Stickers, notebook, pens, kitchen items, puzzles, toys, books - you name it. The people working here are also pretty nice - greeted me when I came in, let me know they are there to help, then left me alone to browse - just what I like!

Yelp
Cute selections, nice display, helpful staff. I was looking for some Philly-inspired gifts and their selection is pretty neat. Price-wise, this is what you would expect from a gift shop ($5-$6 for a card, gifts typically start at $20)

Yelp
This store is a little treasure and I love the indie, local atmosphere. Very fun to just walk around and look at all of the trinkets and cards. You can definitely find a unique gift here (including gifts for yourself ;)...,there is something interesting for everyone of ANY age...and if you're a shopaholic, you might want to brace yourself. This place is filled to the brim (which can be overwhelming for some.) While I do think that there are items here for toddlers because of the store layout (and it is a little cramped, especially when there are a few shoppers) and SEVERAL glass items on display, you may want to be careful in here with your small children and pets. (On the day I went, someone brought in their toddler and I found myself holding my breath the whole time). What I found especially interesting (as a person who couldn't drink for a bit recently) are all the non alcoholic cocktail books and fun 0 proof drinks...you can have something fancy and festive and alcohol free. My experience with staff was neutral: not amazing or bad. Paid street parking in a cute area in general.

Yelp
Love this shop! South Philly is the original shop but there are also locations in Collingswood NJ and Chestnut Hill. The staff are soooo helpful and friendly. It's a fun space with displays that make it easy to see the products. There is a whole wall of cards that you won't find in a big box store as well as unique items from local artists, cocktail mixers and other supplies, fun gifts, candy. I always find something to buy!

Yelp
I am very sad to write this review because I loved shopping at Occasionette. I stopped in on 11/26 to support a local shop on small business Saturday. I bought earrings & a few other items. I wore the earrings the next day for a few hours and they broke while I was wearing them - the ceramic part must have been cracked so it broke & fell off the hoop while I was wearing them (photo attached). I went in with the earrings, explained they broke and asked what we could do. I initially asked for a replacement pair cause I really loved the earrings! The women working seemed very thrown off by my request & stated that their manager wasn't in so they could text her. They also said they saw another pair of the earrings at a different location, so if they could offer an exchange they were available. After about 10 minutes they told me it was the manager's day off so I could be waiting for an answer for a while, and said I could leave and they would call me later. I received a follow up phone call and email about two hours later (email attached below). They let me know that their policy states they cannot accept any broken items back once they have left the store. The representative I was speaking with said he reached out to the manufacturer and they have never heard of their earrings breaking before. I asked the representative if there was anything they could do - store credit, exchange, etc. He said no, and let me know that as a small business they needed to stay consistent and if they accepted back every broken item it would be a huge loss for them. I let him know that was completely unacceptable, even as a small business who should want to retain their customers. He offered a 10% reimbursement which is honestly insulting since that basically covers the tax of an item. I am very disappointed in a small business not wanting to retain their local customers or work towards some type of resolution. Be wary of any purchases here that could break because you will be completely out of luck.

Yelp
My review is based on the Occasionette store in Chestnut Hill which I couldn't find on Yelp however it is part of the same chain. I went to the store on Sunday, May 19, 2024, during Chestnut Hill's Home and Garden Festival. It's a very nice store where I had made a previous purchase from. My wife and I were both drawn to a cutting board by Fredericks and Mae. It cost over $100 including tax. After seeing it earlier in the day, I went back to the store just before they closed for the day at 5 PM. The board looked fine during my initial inspection of it in the store but after returning to my car, I noticed a good number of scratches as if it had been used either in the store or by a customer and returned. Since this is more than I normally would spend for this type of item, I returned to the store the next day to be informed that they didn't have another, boxed item in stock. Additionally I was informed that they don't offer refunds, only store credits. I completed the purchase less than 24 hours earlier and had my receipt. So I was disappointed but I got another cutting board in the same style but in a different color which is nice. I think it would improve the customer experience if the store was more upfront regarding their no refund policy at the time of the purchase although it was written on the fine print on the receipt which I didn't notice. Other than this issue, I would have rated the store 5 stars. Thank you.

Yelp
This is hands down my favorite gift shop in Philly! It is such a fun experience coming here, and always feels like a treasure hunt. I have brought many friends here and they always love the shop. There is so much to choose from - candles (sooo many beautiful candles), kitchenware, books, toys, soap/perfume, socks, trinkets, etc. Be careful - you may want to purchase the entire store. The staff are always very friendly and fun to chat with. I love walking over from Queen Village and coming here. Can't wait for my next treasure hunt.

Yelp
if you ever need a unique gift p, this is the place. this place has saved me many times when I needed a last minute gift. I knew here I would find something fun, contemporary and fresh! so many fun things to see and buy. the staff is helpful and friendly and the store well layer out with many wonderful items.

Yelp
Very cute store with a lot of lovely items but the reason I would give them 3/5 is because it is so so so over priced. They have a lot of cute cards that aren't too expensive everything else is way too expensive especially when there are so many cheaper alternatives even up the avenue

Yelp
For anyone looking for a unique gift, or just a treat for yourself during some trying times, Occasionette has got you! Though their stores are currently closed for in-person shopping, they have an online shop and orders over $45 ship free. Of course, it would be impossible to list every single item sold in these fabulous stores online, so if you know of something they sell but don't see it on their website, you can reach out via DM on Instagram or through email. This is exactly what I did earlier this week when I realized I was running low on my favorite non-alcoholic spirit, Seedlip.* I knew Occasionette stocked all three flavors so I reached out to Sara, Occasionette's owner, with my request. Sara sent me a link for payment and she's going to ship the bottle right to my house! In addition, Sara and the team are thinking of crafty ways to bring the shopping experience to their customers. Today, they're hosting a virtual shopping party via Instagram Live so people can see the merch in its entirety and place orders. Genius! *For a delicious cocktail sans booze, pour two ounces of Seedlip Spice over ice and top with Fever Tree ginger beer and a lime wedge. Serve in a copper mug with a sprig of rosemary. Spicy and satisfying!

Yelp
I've lived on passyunk for a while now and have always been meaning to step into occasionette. What perfect time other than during the holidays. Filled with excitement and holiday spirit my partner and I visited the store to get some ornaments. I can say our experience in the store was nothing short of awkward, uneasy and straight up just unpleasant. The minute I walked in the store, I let the blonde woman working that I was there for ornaments. She literally said nothing, did not point out where they were just looked at walked away. We found the section where the ornaments were, grabbed a few of them and began to head to the cashier. Before our transaction, I noticed the other brunette working ring up another customer and give her a candy cane for her purchase. When it came time for us to check out, the blonde woman again, was so unfriendly and alien like with the most robotic attitude. We spend over $200 in the store and did not receive a candy cane (not that we wanted or needed one but i thought it was unfair). She did not even thank us or wish us well for the holiday. I understand people have bad days but the workers in this store are just super unpleasant and solidified that I'll never be back.

Yelp
I was happy about this business opening a second shop but I just dropped a ton of money the other night while they are advertising a SALE on their website which the manager claimed on the phone started the second day advertised in-store (the morning after I was there). Apparently the sale starts 'early' on the web, how do we know this, does it say anywhere? They could not have told me when I was there in the store to buy online? Or come back the next day? I was going to do all my holiday shopping here to support local but I feel a bit sour now. They also did not mention their new COVID no returns policy, which I think they should when you check out. Just saying. If you're going to have strict policies about things you should make them transparent not advertise inaccurate and misleading sales.

Yelp
I love little shops like this one. Occasionette is a place I like to stop in anytime I am in the area because there is always something cool to discover. If I am looking for a unique gift or card, this is one place I would check out. Recently, we were in the neighborhood both before and after Christmas. Occasionette had such lovely holiday items. Now I will have to pop in to see what they have on hand for Valentine's Day.

Yelp
What I wouldn't give to have a spot like this in my city - Philly is very lucky! Occasionette is such a delightful and beautifully curated gift shop, so it was hard not to spend all my money there. It's got everything from handmade cards (pricey at $5 apiece but well worth it for the wit & original designs) to jewelry (lovin' my new tortoiseshell hoops) to candles, soaps, home bar accoutrements and much more. Bonus points for all the cat stuff - this is my kind of place.
google avatar

Yelp
Cute store with something for most people. A lot of Philly items well displayed and ready for purchase. The nicest clerk greeted us and explained different (local) items for sale. This is a great place to buy something unique for the person who has "everything".
google avatar

Ashleigh D.

Yelp
This store never fails to impress. They get new stuff all the time. I go here for ALL of my gifts! I also LOVE their card selection!
google avatar

Alex T.

Yelp
Might be my favorite little shop in all of Philly. It's implacably curated, and the people are always nice. Absolutely top notch for picking up a weird little gift when you just don't know what to get for someone, and the card selection here is second to none. I love this place. It's hard not to spend a fortune by accident, though ... So be careful!

Yelp
I have been to Occasionette many times to get gifts and trinkets for friends, family and of course for myself. I love the products in this store; however, based on the customer service I recieved during my most recent visit I will no longer be supporting this business. My friend was visiting from out of town and I raved to her about all of the fun finds in this store. Another friend had told us of the 75% home sale that they were having until the end of February so that made us more excited to visit the store. After walking in and seeing the giant sale sign displayed in the window, we saw that the back room was blocked off. After asking the supposed manager at the counter if the sale was going on I recieved a blunt and unfriendly response. To further clarity I asked another question and I suppose that was a little too much for this guy because his response was "I already answered your question" or something to that effect. I honestly couldn't tell if this guy was joking or if he was in fact being downright rude to a repeat customer. So I replied to him and his final response went something like "two questions is one thing... three is overkill." I live in the neighborhood and love supporting local businesses. I am not one to leave negative reviews on yelp but this experience left me feeling so disrespected, embarrased and shocked that I had to share.

Yelp
Do you remember Fred Flare? This store is kind of like walking into that website. This is my first stop when I'm in the business for a pretty card and a tiny gift. It's an especially sweet shop to visit around Christmastime. When someone celebrates a birthday, my secret weapon is their tiny birthday candle sparkler. I like to pair it with a donut.

Mallory S.

Yelp
Love this shop and the people who work there! Came late not realizing the closing time to pick up an order and the ladies were kind enough to reopen and grab it for me after hours!! Best people & thank you occasionette!
google avatar

Kaitlin M.

Yelp
I love the shops on East Passyunk and Occasionette is certainly my favorite. This is the place for the most whimsical yet sophisticated home items and gifts. I also love that they support other local businesses such as the hopefully soon to open co op (co op members get 10% off purchases) and stock several items by local artisans.
google avatar

Adam W.

Yelp
So glad to have this place on the Avenue! Particularly great for gifts and stationery. Cards, kitchen doo-dads, scented candles that actually smell good, tea towels, cocktail bitters, that sort of thing. Every time you go for an overnight visit somewhere, you should buy your host(ess) gift here.
google avatar

Kate R.

Yelp
Such a cute shop for birthday and baby gifts! I had intentions of visiting another gift store on this block but stumbled upon Occasionette and decided to peek inside. I was happily surprised to find a store full of Girls Can Tell - those adorable diagram illustrations that I've seen (and purchased) in other shops. I had no idea that the designer was from Philly, or had her own entire store! If you don't know her work, you should absolutely check it out - I think my favorite is the drawing of a unicorn with an arrow pointing to the horn and the word "magic." :) There are shirts, onesies, lunch bags, kitchen towels, prints, etc. - all great gift ideas. She also carries some other products, like the gourmet bourbon marshmallows that I bought for my male co-worker friend for his birthday. Prices are totally reasonable, and there are many things to choose from, so this is definitely on my go-to list the next time I need a gift for someone special!

Yelp
I love this store! I would buy everything in here if I could. They have the cutest planters in the spring !
google avatar

Becca M.

Yelp
Occassionette is a great place to get personalized, thoughtful and REASONABLY priced gifts. My favorite being the printed textile goods. The best part about these pieces is that they are printed in house. Meaning, if you see a pattern you like but there are no longer any tea towels featuring that pattern the good people at Occassionette will make you your dream tea towel upon request. Also, the people who work at Occasionette get how to run a retail space. They are extremely accommodating and friendly, but not at all overbearing. Whoever is working will answer any questions you have, give good suggestions if you are unsure of exactly what you need; but you do not have to worry about them pressuring you to buy anything. Passyunk is filled with great restaurants but a little lacking on the retail (save for Era Atomica, RIP Sweet Jane). Occassionette is an exception to this, and it is the first place I will stop in the city if I am looking for a unique gift for anyone.
google avatar

Erin K.

Yelp
Yes yes and more yes! This shop has it all! And if you are in NJ, they have another location in Asbury Park that is equally as charming. Sweetest owner too, great customer service. I tell all my friends traveling to Philly to add this to their must visit list.

Yelp
Such a cute store and great customer service. Beautiful card selection and great finds for your home or gift giving.

Yelp
I went into occassionette to purchase something for my 16 month old son. First time there. My toddler accidentally broke a small ceramic juicer bowl. The owner of the store was working that day. As soon as it happened, she walked over to my son and the broken glass, picked up the large pieces and said "I can give you 25% off." The juicer was priced at 58 dollars. I was in shock ! I was so upset it happened, I was in tears. I couldn't afford a 58 dollar juicer. She charged us $50 for a finish. I couldn't take the juicer as it was in pieces. No concern for my son's injuries. I take responsibility for my son breaking this, but to charge 50 dollars for an accident... I could never do that. Needless to say, my son never got his toy.

Yelp
Lovely little shop for any occasion. Reminds me of my favorite shops in Portland, OR and Seattle, WA in that it stocks such unusual and hard to find items. The owner curates a great collection of special cards and gifts. A classy place to shop.
google avatar

Ali D.

Yelp
This is my go to spot for a gift for a friend (or myself) or stationary cards for any occasion. I love supporting local businesses while also finding super unique items that couldn't be found elsewhere.
google avatar

Yelp
The cutest little shop with wonderful gifts made by local artists. And the staff are lovely!

Reen S.

Yelp
I have not left a bad review in years and I've visited endless retails daily since then. The smugness and pretentious behavior of the employees at this location are so Off putting. That I will never shop any of this companies locations again. This was my third time visiting and each time was worst than the next. The employees look less than Enthusiastic each time, as though you are annoying them with your presence. Forget asking for help!!! Rude replies! I had never cared before, but as a retail manager of multi million dollar stores and now business owner, I could never imagine having employees who act like this. COVID-19 makes it understandably a stressful time for all of us. However if you cannot handle the pressure of being out in public, having to actually do a job you're paid for.. you should get a doctors note for your mental health and stay home. I feel really sorry for these people and those who come in contact, as they are sure to ruin your day. I did how ever end up going to the gift shop down the street and spending almost $300 there because I got Genuine help. I know grungy and being too cool for school is in but never in retail! Never in service! It's really not that hard to help especially in a small setting as this! Please mirror the signs you have labeled on display!

Yelp
Great place to shop for unique gifts. Friendly owner. Check it out!
google avatar

Yelp
This store is so unique and beautiful! I am in a good mood just being in the store itself. They always have a fun selection of birthday cards and cool kitchen gifts. They have a jewelry counter that I'm obsessed with--there was an amethyst necklace on a gold chain that I probably have to go back for because it's too magnificent to pass up. They'll also gift wrap your items, which is a major plus because I am outrageously challenged when it comes to wrapping neatly...go to Occasionette!
google avatar

Katie J.

Yelp
I'm not a big review writer. I usually leave that to the (yelper) professionals. However, I've been meaning to write a little blurb for this shop for YEARS. This place always has great gifts at reasonable prices. They're usually burning a good-smelling candle (which I will then want to buy), the employees are always friendly, and you feel like you can look around without being harassed. Christmas-time is always a gold mine for interesting gifts that you can get that friend, family member, or anyone really, knowing that it's something they will dig. Oh, and a little tip: if you give them your email address they will alert you to special store events (that may or may not involve booze and edible goodies for FREE)! I like a store that likes its customers!
google avatar

Bridgette S.

Yelp
Such a fun shop! Love everything about it. I came in to Occasionette after a friend recommended it and I see why she did! It's so fun. Love all the unique finds in there. The service was also amazing... I was trying to put together the perfect gift and they helped me do just that! Overall this shop is top notch. Absolutely worth a visit! I will be stopping by every time I am in the area.

Donna K.

Yelp
I absolutely love this shop and Sara, the owner. The vibe is cool, current and cozy. I drive all the way from chester county to visit, the owner is very friendly, and the assortment of products is the best !! LOVE love love occasionette,

Yelp
Super cute store with tons of unique, beautiful, and amazing gifts. However, I went in during my lunch break a week before Christmas to look for gifts, and two different employees were busy gabbing away with their respective friends. Neither acknowledged my presence, asked me if I needed help, or did anything that made me feel welcomed to shop in their store. The one employee was actually standing in the middle of the aisle and apologized that she was "in my way" but went back to chatting it up with her friend. I left without purchasing anything!
google avatar

Shelley R.

Yelp
Great shop for unique gifts. Their card selection is awesome and you can get a punch card for buy 10 get 1 free! I recently purchased their large pad of paper placemats for a dinner party and my guests thought that they were the cutest. A great selection of clean burning candles and local artist goods. Prices are a little bit higher than I'm able to frequently spend, but buying something nice from here every once in a while is a real treat. The new shop added to the back always has great things to check out. Definitely stop in!
google avatar

Michelle S.

Yelp
Such a cute shop! They have a number of gifts, greeting cards, household items - basically you could spend a lot of money but it would be worth it. I picked up a Father's Day card, a baby onesie, an adorable growth chart, and an illustrated picture of a dog for my daughter's room. The prices are very reasonable and it's just so much fun to walk through and see what they have.
google avatar

Susie G.

Yelp
Occasionette! Just the name makes you happy. The owner has just the best taste ever, and she crafts her own collection also available at this store (Girls Can Tell)! You must visit. And buy everything. For me.
google avatar

Jackie G.

Yelp
A lovely addition to the avenue. The owner is very pleasant and I love and want everything in that store! Try the Bittermilk Tom Collins with elderflower &hops cocktail mixer...delicious!

Yelp
Bought a bunch of cute, clever, appropriate, unusual stocking stuffers yesterday for a reasonable price. I'm sure they will be a hit, and the merchandise is so well curated (as we say now -- the word used to be "selected") that shopping is as efficient as you want it to be. This store is a real find! If I didn't always make my own Christmas cards, I would have bought a bunch of those, too. Many nice ones, boxed and individual, not the stuff you see every other ol' place.
google avatar

Jennifer F.

Yelp
This shop is an absolute gem! I've been here at least 9-10 times over the last year, usually looking for a cute greeting card and occasionally for a small gift. The rotating selection and consistent high quality have always left me with a smile. Plus - make sure to swing by sometime for their fun tasting/collab events when you can taste products available for purchase! Beautifully yet meticulously organized, Occasionette never fails to impress.

Yelp
such an adorable little shop! Great place to get unique gifts, cute cards, and some funky little home items. I got a dish towel that had a cute drawing of a south philly row home screen printed on it as well as a cool pad of paper placemats. Very similar to the home goods section at Anthroplogie. I also got some cute cards and paper straws for a bridal shower. Great for getting little accent pieces when hosting a party like napkins or paper decorations. They also had a cool mason jar drink shaker. I believe the owner was working the register and she was super sweet and friendly.
google avatar

Matt G.

Yelp
Want an interesting gift that someone will remember? This is the place. A south philly gem with a great staff, plus, you may get a free drink while you're shopping :). This place makes the neighborhood that much cooler...
