Curt was fabulous! Checked in after luncheon and had my high heel shoes on and bless his heart he carried our luggage up 3 flights of stairs. Due to us being there for a very special birthday, daughters 30th there was available an upgraded room, one with view of ocean, which he gladly gave us. The hotel is secure and in a prime a location with the beach literally across the street and easy access to many restaurants. Like being able to park the car without driving everywhere. Wlill highly recommend this hotel to others. Thank you for such a memorable experience!!

Google
Great location. The weather was windy, Grey, and cold. That's May out here though. We did have a sunny day or two, so that was nice. Amazing views on the deck and from my personal balcony. The farmers market was super fun and the food was amazing but pricier than I remember it being. The hotel was very clean which I loved especially for being around as long as it has been. We had some heavy police commotion a night or two, but served as entertainment. I'll come again, it was worth the stay for me.

Google
I’ve stayed here numerous times and every single time staff is so kind and helpful especially Kirk I believe is his name. Location can’t be beat! Of course with the location being right across the street there’s going to be noises of cars but it’s really not bad at all. I will stay here every single time I come to San Diego for sure!

Google
The location was great and the included parking in the rates is also nice. The room is very small. Bathroom is really small and my 6’5 husband had a difficult time as the commode is so close to the sink you have to sit sideways! It’s extremely loud overall, you can hear everyone on the street so a good night sleep isn’t going to happen. The court yard is nice but due to zero sound barrier you hear everything like it’s in your room. View is nice.

Google
This place is disgusting. The stairs are disgusting and there are no elevators and the rooms are very very small. I was catfish on Expedia. This place is not what it is portrayed to be. It is not nice. It is not clean. You can sit on the toilet and wash your hand at the same time, the mattress Is cheap and mushy, you will see outside With the door closed. I will never recommend this to anyone. I would recommend you sleeping in your car then this hotel.

Google
I loved the hotel staff! They were so friendly and accommodating. Free on sight parking was great as well as the ease of walking to the beach, the shops and restaurants. We did have an issue with our first night room by the stairs. It was incredibly loud but we were moved and then it was a lot better. The worst was the homeless people that hang out across the street and yell and fight all night and even in the day. Our first beach experience there featured a scary homeless person screaming profanities at people. Other times there were several digging the the garbage and laying around.

Google
You cannot beat the location! It is right across from the beach and on Newport- the main street. Unfortunately, there are no microwaves or freezer sections in the fridges in the rooms. Also, due to pier instabilities, there are no longer fireworks on tbe 4th. Young folk dominate during the sumner, but the laid- back, dog-loving vibe continues.

Google
Great location with friendly staff. Definitely not fancy. Great ocean view from the balcony. Tiny bathroom

Yelp
One of our favorite "get-out-of-Santee for the night" spots is the OB Hotel. We stayed for the OB Holiday Parade and had a great time. We did not have an ocean view balcony room but our friends did, so we enjoyed the parade from their balcony. Our room was a "partial ocean view". Our room was on the east side of the building with the large front window facing the ocean. So our partial ocan view was from across the courtyard. Still a nice view. We had a problem with the heater. It was freezing in our room. The girl at the front desk was quick to help. She provided us with a space heater and extra blankets. At some point in the middle of the night our room heater kicked in. Coupled with the space heater, it was blazing hot in our room. LOL! No worries though. All's well that ends well. Comfy bed, in-room coffee and a fridge, all appreciated. It was a decent sized room with a small table and two chairs. and armoire type closet and a dresser/cabinet the contained the fridge. Front desk staff are all amazing and helpful. We're already booked for the Chili Cook-Off in June and the OB Holiday Parade 2025!

Yelp
Hotel is right on the beach...but a little bit run down. The room was clean and had all the necessities...but the heater didn't work and there was a sign that temperature is pre-set and cannot be changed ..very disappointing as I am always freezing and it was very cold at night in February!

Yelp
Great location that you'll be paying for. It's right across the street from the beach, if you want to get closer you'll have to sleep in the sand. There is also all of the Ocean Beach bars and hotels very close, so take advantage. Rooms are small but there is some seating at the upper level and in the courtyard that gives you space to enjoy. Outside has nice Pacific Ocean murals.

Yelp
Had a staycation to celebrate a friend's birthday recently and wanted to be close to a venue nearby. It was perfect! The bedrooms we had were unique in that the the room was split so that the beds weren't side by side so it was nice having a little separation. Our rooms were clean with great views. The decks overlooking the beach were also nice to sit and eat snacks/breakfast and chat a bit. Great people watching.

Yelp
The Ocean Beach Hotel is awesome!! It is the place to stay in Ocean Beach for sure!! I stayed there last Sunday night and it was awesome!! Very clean and Keurig coffee!! The courtyard is awesome with an awesome view of the ocean!! Very relaxing and I'd stay there again. And their parking is great and secure too!! I loved my stay there and so will you!!
google avatar

Jessica C.

Yelp
The location is a prime spot for sunsets, ocean views and people watching! The rooms are set up cool, very clean, and the staff are super friendly. Having parking at the beach, the ability to have a day at the beach, walk to restaurants, bars, and shopping made for a great staycation.
google avatar

Yelp
A bit pricey but it was totally worth it to be steps away from the beach. Free parking included with your stay plus they have a private outdoor shower to rinse off before you go back to your room. The room was spacious and we had a large patio for our dog to hangout in while we were away. They also have a bunch of outdoor seating to sit and enjoy the beach views while you eat or drink. You got Mike's Tacos and Hodads right next door plus a bunch of shops nearby if you need any beach toys like boogie boards, volleyballs, firewood for bonfires. It's a lively area, especially on the weekends, but it quieted down by 11pm so we had no issues. My family had a blast during our 3 days in OB!

Kevin H.

Yelp
Recently renovated but small rooms. That is expected for a near the beach hotel. Probably too small for us and our two small dogs in the pet only rooms. Staff was friendly and helpful. Housekeeping was great. A little overpriced for what you get. Nice they take pets. Free parking was nice. It sits on one end a downtown reminiscent of a throw back to the 70's. Did not feel very safe with the homeless frequenting the area but had no issues. Very friendly neighborhood. Check out the souvenir shops including the one at the hotel. Great places to eat with reasonable prices near the property. Worth considering if you are looking for a place to stay in a laid back beach town.

Yelp
Rooms are a little deceiving and not as described. Ocean View means parking lot/Partial Ocean View.

Yelp
We were super excited to stay here as the location was perfect and we were hoping to watch the sunset of the beach and walk around all the shops nearby. Upon first entry the room smelled strange and very very humid. I opened up the window and realized we didn't have a screen. There were also large gaps in the door so we could hear clearly everyone outside, and they could hear us. After sitting on the bed we realized black and white stains on our bedding, which we were really grossed out by. We went to the front desk and they provided us new sheets which turned out to have red stains... after this we did not feel comfortable staying here, as we were really grossed out and it just felt unsanitary. We ended up leaving the same day we checked in and lost $250 dollars. (I do want to note the older man at the front desk was very kind and felt bad we had this experience.) We expected a better experience for the price, as there are no amenities like a pool, restaurant, etc.

Yelp
I have stayed here with my boyfriend twice now, it is a Great location with great service. The building is a little worn down and you can see the salt damage on the outdoors, but I can't complain, this hotel is RIGHT ACTOSS THE STREET from the ocean. Dogs being allowed is a huge plus as well. You will always have something to do and somewhere to go, lots of dining options and on weekends there is always something going on.. the hotel is definitely worth the price..
google avatar

Megan D.

Yelp
Never ever stay on a weekend or a Wednesday night. The noise level is absurd. They have drum circle DJ music rap. The location is nice but everything else about our stay was awful. If we could have gotten our money back I would have gotten in the car and gone home. Never ever again.

William N.

Yelp
They illegally put boots on cars. I went to pick up food and literally walked back 2-3 min later and they clearly use predatory practice doing this. They want 100$ when it says 35$ to park for the day. In California only peace officers can legally boot a car. When I was gonna pay they said no cards only cash like that's suspicious af. Shady group of people . Avoid this place at all cost if you enjoy dealing with businesses with integrity

Sharon S.

Yelp
Room is clean and up dated View of pier awesome street performer and as very good and performed for several hours

Yelp
Yep! This is my place! 5 star mattress , 5 star OB vibes... And fun everywhere ... It's clean , it's fun and it's my annual trip......
google avatar

Maureen Y.

Yelp
I tried booking a weekend get away with my grandkids to this Hotel, however I don't think they want children at their hotel. I noticed 2 adults rooms were available I was about to book it, then realized I would have a 14 year old and a 11 year old with me so I changed the amount of people, right away my options changed to no rooms available for the weekend. Darn shame!!!
google avatar

Scott F.

Yelp
Perfect place to waking up! OB is a small beach city on the water with great vibes. Thank you
google avatar

Jason Y.

Yelp
This hotel is overpriced and the beach directly across the street is filled with homeless people, crack/meth heads and heroin addicts. Went there for the weekend and it was disgusting. $500 for the room facing the ocean to watch bums and crackheads all evening. The bathroom was incredibly small. I couldn't sit on the toilet without my feet and knees being under the sink. Rooms smell musty. There's no nice restaurants in the immediate area. It's all tacos, burgers and bar food. If your looking for something clean in a great neighborhood with great nightlife. This is absolutely not it.
google avatar

Tommy N.

Yelp
A childhood goal to stay here matched all expectations! Great location, heart of OB, amazing sunset view.
google avatar

Stephanie Z.

Yelp
I am not disappointed! Here for a staycation. Specifically chose this hotel because it's right off the beach and dog friendly- without extra fees and restrictions. I won't be without my dogs. The rooms are small but it's enough. Bed is comfortable. Right by the pier- it was so nice to eat dinner on the sand and watch the sun go down. Had a couple drinks on their GORGEOUS courtyard last night. Walking distance to so many restaurants/bars and dog beach!
google avatar

Rei V.

Yelp
LISTEN! Stay here so you can be DIRECTLY ACROSS the beach! That's why I chose it. You have a great view of the ocean from the hotel's balcony and it's easy access to the beach and the pier. The hotel is old and not luxury by any means. It's more of a motel but the price was great, the room was clean, and I never felt unsafe. I was here for the beach, and it was super convenient! Would be 5 stars if they updated it a little bit. Regardless, I enjoyed my stay.

Yelp
Avoid this place at all costs! I pulled into hotel to park because I was going to see if there was any available rooms for the night because I wanted to surprise my boyfriend with a weekend by the beach. I pulled in and I was going to put in an order for food at the place next door and go to the bathroom, so it would be ready by the time I could check in. I looked and the line was long so I went back to see about the room and there was a boot on my car. I went in mad and explained that to the people at the front desk, he lied and said security did it, and he lied and said someone would come take care of it. I was just going to pay and get out of there. I told them I would not be staying there and leaving there and leaving a review, he said that I could now only pay cash after he was about to accept my card. He then pulled out a sign saying that they only accepted cash. A lot of misinformation and lies being told. I recorded the interaction and the guy told me if I kept recording, he wouldn't take the boot off after I paid! I wanted to make sure my car wasn't damaged because of them. He was aggressive and I was honestly scared. I guess you can only park there if you have already paid for a room and not to inquire. This business is run by aggressive, lying, extortionists. Steer clear!

Yelp
Great local place to stay. I stayed here 10 years ago and our last stay a couple of weeks ago was super. They have done some great remodeling and the property has a warm beach feel to it. The rooms aren't like your staying at the Hyatt, but that's not what we wanted. We wanted to be at a locals area with walking distance to the action. OB hotel was on point, close to great local restaurants and a few short steps to the sand. The staff was very pleasant and the rooms are clean and tidy. We will be back.
google avatar

Giavanni M.

Yelp
Ocean Beach hotel was exactly what we needed for our vacation. Perfect location, and beautiful views all around in my opinion. The room was clean and the sheets were clean as well. Staff was nice and helpful. Only complain is that they should have a quiet time past a certain time. It was midnight and our neighbors were outside their hotel room door blaring music and just overall being very loud. Take it to the street. But other then that, it's a great place if you're looking for somewhere not too expensive and good for the price.
google avatar

Michelle Y.

Yelp
So, I want to give this place way more stars because the location is prime, but beware that it's pretty noisy here on the weekends. I don't know who lives next door but their music had my walls rattling until 3AM and if there's an event across the street, expect most people to stay at the hotel. They'll probably be partying in the balconies of the place until 3AM as well (and not quietly). We were put in the corner room by the exit door and you'll hear it slam every time. Eventually, I had to go buy earplugs to finally get some sleep. But, I will say that it's likely id be willing to stay here again as long as I pack some ear plugs because the location is perfect, their staff is super friendly and my dogs loved it.
google avatar

Michael R.

Yelp
Located across the street from the beach and pier this hotel was very good. It looks like a new hotel due to upgrades such as new windows, a beautiful 3-story deck that faces the ocean and a refrigerator. We parked in the hotel parking lot and free parking for one car. We never moved the car during a two-nite stay since there were stores and restaurants within easy walking distance. The staff was wonderful too. Unfortunately there is no elevator. I suggest that the hotel consider installing a live-stream camera with a view of the park and ocean across the street. It would result in considerable interest by potential clients.

Gerardo A.

Yelp
I posted a comment but was unable to add pictures before. This was the worst hotel I've ever stayed at. For what you pay you should probably get better looking room. Maybe management should do walk thru of the rooms.
google avatar

Debra M.

Yelp
This was a first time stay at OBH in SD. Location, location, location. A walk across the street to the beach. If you don't have a room facing the ocean, you can enjoy a seat right in the courtyard and terrace above. I would recommend a stay for people seeking beach, food and fun.
google avatar

Swanny B.

Yelp
I can't recommend this hotel enough ! It's the cutest little gem in the heart of ocean beach with breathtaking views from your outside patio. The staff is so accommodating and nice , Luis took great care of us. Planning our next trip soon
google avatar

Nunya B.

Yelp
I would give the place 3.5 stars if I could. First off, it is not cheap. We stayed Wednesday thru Friday on a holiday weekend so maybe that's why?? The rooms are small and so is the bathroom. It's close to an airport so you'll hear jets taking off early in the morning. It's in a prime location so be prepared to run into the local homeless community. So the positives.... It's in a PRIME location! It's literally 50 feet to the beach. With great views from the balcony. It's walking distance to all the stores and restaurants which are plentiful! Every local mom and pop stores are so unique and there are even special vendors occasionally. Wednesday nites they have their farmers market which is an eyegasm for even the pickiest eaters. The hotel is really clean and the staff is super friendly. It's a great place for a getaway.

Yelp
4 days of having raw sewage in the alley from the ob hotel. Today one of their housecleaning crew is pouring industrial strength cleaning solution throughout the outside of the property and hosing it down. This is toxic to pets & people swimming! Clean up your act OB Hotel you are Polluting our streets & beach !
google avatar

Yelp
This used to be a $100 to$150 per night hotel. Granted, it is in the best location in town. However, 272/night? After a 10 % discount? That's baffling even for 2021. Aside from the insanity of the price gouge, the last time we stayed here, a couple of drunks who had ZERO disregard for... anyone else, thought it would be cool to stand right outside OUR room and continue to drink at around 1240ish. Of course they moved away from their own room so whoever could sleep lol, but no common sense for anyone else. Anyways, not my place to call em out and get into the mix so we called the night personnel n asked them to handle it. What did the staff do? They literally told the guys unit number ××× called and complained lol. WTF? Thanks OB. If I wanted to put a target directly on my room, I would have just stepped out and handled it myself. Luckily that was the end of it. Anyways, last time was a bad experience. But the prices.... Hawaii doesn't even charge that much and this place is OLD AF on the trashiest beach in town.
google avatar

Jessica E.

Yelp
This is what you get for spending 530$ per night. Loud partiers kept us up all night and they even trashed our patio. Supposedly 10pm starts quiet time, but clearly the front office staff doesn't care.
google avatar

Ryan A.

Yelp
I stayed here for 3 nights while on a business trip. The hotel was being remodeled while I was there, but work didn't start until 8 am and was done by 5 pm at the latest, so I really didn't mind it. The rooms are in the process of being renovated, mine was actually pretty nice, except for the refrigerator light that wouldn't turn off and the old heater that didn't work (it looks like they're installing heat pumps and a/c in all the rooms, so that shouldn't be an issue for long). The floor was redone and the furniture updated to a modern décor. The shower tile was all new too and I didn't have any issues with hot water or really anything else for that matter. The location is excellent, so close to the beach that you can hear the waves all night and also within walking distance to many bars and restaurants. If you stay here you won't need a rental car. I would definitely stay here again and could easily pass a week relaxing in the hotel and at the beach.

Yelp
Stay at the ocean beach hotel - and ONLY go to The Holding place! You WONT be disappointed. Trust . Those two photos are from brunch

Yelp
I'm so refreshed and replenished after my 3 night stay at Ocean Beach Hotel. As a single woman traveling, I must say I felt no safety issues here! Alejandro and Fernando were great at check in, I had some personal concerns that Fernando handled quite professionally- thank you! The convenience of the hotel is just perfect. I pulled in Monday at noon and didn't get back in my car til I hit the road Thursday!!! I could even leave my stuff at the beach and run back to hotel for the restroom and return to beach! I loved my getaway here- I wish it wasn't so expensive but I didn't mind treating myself. It was my 51st birthday and since I didn't get much of a celebration last year, I made up for it here! Thank you, OB!!! Misha

Yelp
Location is great! Room was tiny, only a small window in the front by the front door, queen bed, very basic old room. Could use upgrades, but to me was not a big deal. We parked our car and had anything we needed in walking distance. The car sat the whole weekend. On our beach day I was able to run back to the room to use our bathroom and get some ice from the ice machine! So convenient!!! Rooftop restaurants with amazing views within within 2-5 minutes walking. Many dinner choices and if COVID didn't have the bars shut down many bars as well! The hotel has a very laid back chill vibe throughout the courtyard, friendly people, and a great spot right on the beach!!! No microwave, that woulda been better.
google avatar

Jessica K.

Yelp
Had a nice stay at OB. The hotel is right on the beach with 3 floors of outdoor patio. My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights during the pandemic. The only negative things I can say is that the walls are super thin and the hotel doors stick so you can hear everyone talking around you and slamming their door. Parking was free for hotel guest otherwise it's almost $40 for the beach. Hotel staff was nice. Definitely try OB beans for coffee and Hodad's for their burgers. Both are only a few blocks away.
google avatar

Craig G.

Yelp
This was our third trip to OB. The building and stairs were under construction/ renovation. We always get a third floor suite facing the water. The hotel is a small narrow street across from the beach, pier and water. Lots of traffic. Foot, scooter, bikes and cars, plenty of traffic. Great for people watching! The rooms are so small you have to go outside to change your mind. The television stations are nonexistent, so don't bother. The room is to change clothes and recharge your cell phone. They give you one parking space per room and that is one of the best deals, because you can walk to every place in Ocean Beach. This hotel will not be for everyone! Although it is pet friendly, I wouldn't bring pets or children. I want this experience all to myself. Posting up at the OB Hotel gives you one of the best spots to ba a part of it all, good and bad. When we sit on the balcony during the early evening the combination of cigar, cigarette, pipe and weed smoke can be overwhelming if the wind is blowing towards us. Still worth the price of the rooms. again the three most important things in real estate? Location, location, location!
google avatar

Yelp
First, this is a cute and quaint hotel with very friendly staff. Very very clean, like super clean. The courtyard and the balcony areas were super awesome. I loved sitting out there and working, drinking my coffee or just hanging out and looking at the beach. The beach and pier are just across the street and all the great restaurants are walking distance. We parked the car and walked everywhere during our vacation. I did like that the only way to access the inside of the hotel was with a room key. The bed was very comfy. So why the 3 stars well... - no coffee in the room - no microwave - the bathroom sink was just a sink so there wasn't any room to put toiletries. - my room shower didn't have hot water. I went to ask the front desk if there was a trick and they told me to turn on the sink faucet. Umm ... two different front desk people had to come in and fix it and then I was told to not move the knob just pull or push to turn on the shower so the hot water would run. - the first night I was woken up by the room alarm clock at 1 a.m., thanks. - then I could hear the neighbor snoring. - I could hear all the walking from the people above us too. - I can also hear that gorgeous fountain in the courtyard (Actually would've preferred to hear this my entire trip) - the amount of homeless people is insane and honestly didn't make me feel safe at all. - last morning here there was a homicide on the beach in front of the hotel. The friends we went with actually heard the gun shots. We did have a great time with our friends, but I don't think I'd book here again.

Yelp
Directed some guests there because of its proximity to Ocean Beach and the ocean. They were very disappointed Smelled a bit musty was drafty could not supply tissue only TP. Friends often visit and the OB hotel will not be on the list

Yelp
This is my second year of staying at the OB Hotel. Highly recommend due to location. There is the beach, shopping, and restaurants. Love the courtyard and parking is accessible! A truly unique experience. It is hard to find a better deal with a location like this one!

Steven P.

Yelp
Small affordable Hotel on market street. The room is of decent quality, fairly clean with a powerful heater. They include a strong fridge and sound dampener. The main reason to choose this hotel is location. It's right next to the beach with other restaurants and shops right next to it. It can be a busy area, but the ambience is worth it.

Tiffany G.

Yelp
My husband and I booked this for our anniversary. We rarely spend so much on a hotel (maybe airbnb but not hotel) but we did because it's right off the beach. My husband got sick and I ended up taking my daughter with me instead. The room was tiny and very muggy. I couldn't open the window, it was stuck. We went to bed and the first pillow smelled like bleach (so I knew it was clean) but the one underneath smelled like somebody's disgusting body sweat. I really believe that they just changed the top pillow case and not the other pillows. The sheets also smelled that way. I have never felt so gross in a hotel. EVER. The guy at the front desk didn't seem to care. I left at 5:30 AM to go out because I didn't sleep well all night and asked him to have someone come clean the bed and do a good job. My daughter and I came back at 1 pm and the room still wasn't clean. I saw the cleaning staff cleaning all the other rooms around mine and one of them asked me if I needed cleaning that day. He never told them I guess. We were supposed to stay two nights but I checked out early. The guy at the front desk seemed indifferent. Absolutely disgusting room, don't waste a bunch of money here. My daughter and I came home with itchy skin because it was so dirty. The area is also not very nice. A lot of shady people and I felt unsafe being out at night.

Yelp
I am very unhappy and will not shop Groupon anymore. I paid for one thing and received another. Unacceptable service from groupon and Ocean Beach Hotel. I paid for full ocean view and was given room facing parking lot. It was rust everywhere?, everywhere, on doors, windows. Toilets piss around and brown stains. Feces on wall by toilet paper roll. Room smaller than suppose to be. Sand between 2nd sheet and covers on bed. Very foul smell us guess was gathering about the smell. I had to buy sheets and towels from target to sleep on and wash and dry with due to having to use towels in room to clean. I lifted my bag off floor and 4 brown centipede alien looking bugs came running out. I was so unhappy about this trip, disappointed. Ocean beach refuse to assist nor groupon but took almost $400 for a 1 day easy 8 hotel stay the rooms were extremely small Very disappointed. And to hear that the hotel refuse to make it right is devastating Ocean beach please contact me if you want to make it right Joslynn Patton 5102740363

Yelp
We live in San Diego and decided to have our honeymoon as a stay-cation. We stayed at the OB Hotel and had the best experience ever. It was so calm and peaceful. The court yard was absolutely beautiful. Being able to leave the hotel and walk to the beach just a few steps away was everything I could ask for. I highly recommend this hotel for anyone who wants to have a calm, relaxing time central to all the wonderful shops and food in OB.

Yelp
The view from room 307 was spectacular: beach in one direction and the busy shopping corridor in the other. Nice patio and cozy room. Comfy bed. Toilet did not flush properly no matter if it was nearly empty. Good size fridge in the room, but no microwave. Worth it for the location.

Cody B.

Yelp
horrible stay. for the price this place is a must not visit if you're in the San Diego area. we checked in and there was c*m stains on our comforter and when we got replacement sheets and a comforter there was blood stains on both of them. very unhygienic and costly are my complaints. if you're staying 4 nights somewhere for $900 you'd think you'd get more than just a tiny room and stain filled sheets. 1/5 stars only because the old man on the front desk was very nice.

Yelp
Bday trip was ruined because the window to my room was to where they stored extra air conditioners. Thinking it would be nice to get some light in the room we opened the curtain and worker saw my gf naked. When I went to the front the worker seemed not to care at all and said sorry.
