We had a fabulous dinner at Ocean. Started with well crafted cocktail, a blood orange cosmo served in an ice cold glass. Appetizers were also delicious - the smoked artic char with fried artichoke and my continuing favorite, the cod fritters (from tapas menu).
Entrees were the lobster and the monkfish -- ahhh, delicious! Lobster dish with gnocchi and asparagus included a full lobster, claw meat had been removed from shell, tail meat was in the shell but very easy to remove. The dish let the perfectly cooked fresh lobster shine, it was meltingly tender. I don't often order lobster out, because it can be messy, overcooked, or dominated by sauce or other embellishments. Not here. This was a highlight.
Monkfish was also fresh and not overwhelmed by unnecessary sauces. Served with peas, littleneck clams, and spicy romanesco sauce (served on side of plate, so you can avoid completely if too spicy for you).
Portion size of entree and appetizers were perfect, not the precious size and food of some other upscale restaurants.
The only slight misstep was the dessert - a brioche biscuit with rhubarb ice cream and sliced strawberries. Sounded enticing but the biscuit was grilled and had an unpleasant bitter, smokey flavor which completely overpowered the rhubarb ice cream and strawberries. Not the sweet/tart ending the meal deserved.
I didn't lower to 4 stars because everything else was superb - the service, the setting and the food.
On another note, I reviewed this restaurant several years ago but it is no longer posted, only one other review is here. Last time I reviewed the restaurant it had many reviews. It changed ownership, but not that recently. Curious, where did all the other reviews go?.
