I came here for a surf lesson and a board rentals.
First, the lesson. I scheduled a lesson at the last minute. You're supposed to schedule 24 hours in advance but I didn't know that (didn't see it on their website). But they were kind about it and called up one of their instructors for a last minute lesson.
The lesson was awesome. My instructor Jason was a really nice guy. I felt like I was just going surfing with a buddy. We talked about school, good places to eat around Folly, and fist pumped whenever I caught a wave (and even when I didn't he was still encouraging). He was patient, not pushy, and just an overall awesome instructor. I came with my parents and he even went and said hello and was real cordial. Best surf lesson, bar none.
After the lesson was over I was hooked. I stood up a few times but I also fell off a lot. Expected when you're learning something new. I came back the next day to rent a board. Megan the cute girl working behind the counter and the other staff were all super helpful in helping me get back out there. I cannot emphasize how nice the staff is here.
Unfortunately, as a novice, I don't know which board is right for me and the board I given was definitely not right for me. It was a nine footer that seemed more like a paddle board (I know this because another surfer was watching me and was kind enough to give me a few tips and try his board, which was much better). I returned the board a little disappointed that I didn't have a similar experience as before but still left with a smile.
I eventually rented another board elsewhere that worked out but wouldn't knock oceans at all for it. I would just make sure to ask which board would be better for me and pick a different board that fit me. The staff was too cool to give them anything less than 5 stars, and if I could, I'd give them 6.
