Ocean View Pub & Grill

Most definitely recommend this place for a place to dine in, workers are great and friendly, even when it was busy we didn't wait long. Most definitely will be back specifically to dine in here again. Some items were out but what we have tried has been great. Perogies didn't last long enough for a photo.

The place is now called the Stellar's Jay. The food was amazing for a really fair price, great views, delicious cocktails, and seasonal berry crumble! Great place to wait for the ferry and shoot some pool and fill your tummy!

Basically the only pub in town. Beer was cold and had a bit of view of the waterfront. The building was having a renovation done inside (July/2017). Apparently the pub is going to have a name change and will be called the Ocean View rather than Howler's. A big bonus was that the pub was serving beer from the Sherwood Mountain Brewery located in Terrace. Very tasty!

Three establishments in one building so a little difficult to find. Pizza place on top floor (did not go in but looked like steep stair access only), Ocean View on middle floor (slight ramp down with step up to window table) and pub/beer store on bottom floor (did not go in but looked relatively accessible from bottom street). Busy place. Good food but long wait for it. Minimal parking.

This was a bit of a tough one to review. Walking into the place you'd think you would be walking into some small village bar...and it definitely has that feel. You really have no idea what to expect. In essence this place is one half gastro pub, one half local village bar. Let's start with the food. It was absolutely amazing... Never did we think we would be getting a full gastropub experience in Haida Gwaii. Everything on the menu looked amazing. I don't believe the cooks are local, so would be good to check if they have the same cooks. The beer selection from Terrace was also great. The not so great: the service. The waitress there was not rude or anything like that, but things certainly took awhile, including our bill. We sat at our table for 15 minutes plates and glasses empty before offering us the bill and then took another 10 min for the machine. Maybe this is the pace of Haida Gwaii? Also, there wasn't that warmness or great hospitality I've associated with people here on Haida Gwaii. Again, no one was rude to us, but the service could have been a bit better. Perhaps related to this is some of the clientele. There were very rowdy and drunk people in the bar which gives it it's local bar feeling. Never felt unsafe or anything like that. But did see servers have to deal with them... Perhaps that is why we might not have recieved the service that we might expect at a gastropub. Would definitely recommend visiting provided they have their amazing cooks.

No trip to Queen Charlotte is complete without a visit to the ocean view. Love the new set up, but miss the old patio. Who knows what summer will bring though! Great little selection of beer on tap, and excellent, fresh food. Staff is very good, and ownership clearly cares about the end product. Don't miss out.

I didn't know what to expect when I went there to have dinner. However I was pleasantly surprised by the outstanding quality, service, and friendliness of the staff. The food was absolutely amazing and the descriptions of it didn't do it justice to how amazing it was. Would definitely love to go back again someday!

Friendly service, chill space with great views. We loved the high quality of ingredients and the size of our meals. But we found the chicken burger and burgers to be a bit bland. We love punch-in-the-mouth flavour, so we would have loved spicy options. Everything was hot and fresh though, and we would definitely return here again!
