Had a lovely stay here! Came in with my daughters basketball team and everyone was very accommodating! We are grateful that such a lovely space will host our club! We enjoyed the pool and the lovely deck outside with the chairs to sit and watch the sunset! We even had a little dip in the ocean! I had an economy one bedroom suite right over the pool that had a peek a boo view to the ocean! A very comfortable king size bed and two pull out sofa beds in the living room! It was a great room, nothing fancy but just perfect! I would stay again in a heartbeat!

This hotel is not horrible, but it's awkward and felt unfriendly. The parking is very odd and has no direct or elevator access into the hotel. You are required to wheel (or carry) your luggage through an awkward parking garage. The restaurant was closed on Sunday morning and only available for (expensive) room service. The front desk lady said there was nothing around for breakfast, but there is an entire town less than 10 mins up the road with endless options. The view was fantastic, but this is a $300 hotel, not a $400+ hotel. The "wheel in" AC didn't cool the room off despite running all night.

What a wonderful hotel and the best service! We stayed for two nights and enjoyed the calming vibes of the area. There aren't many places to eat around there but it's a short drive into Duncan or Mill Bay for more options. We will definitely be coming back, especially since some of the rooms are pet friendly.

Great room, comfy bed, and exactly the kitchen setup that was needed here. The staff is fantastic, and are great with our dog too. This was a great spot to relax after busy, busy days. Would recommend to anyone, and hope to return in the future.

This place is a wonderful spot to gather with family. We both had suites for 4 days.. with our dogs and kids.We had a tiny boat and they have a great dock. The restaurant is delicious.Everyone was happy to see us and kind with all interactions. The pool and gym were very clean. What an amazing spot… the strip of businesses along the beach front are excellent as well.. don’t miss the morning cinnamon rolls from the bakery on the strip. Can’t wait to spend a long weekend there again.

Google
Horrible customer service. They charged me additional fees when I should not have been charged and when I called to clear it up, every single person was rude. I did not feel like a hotel guest but rather someone who was treated like a liar. I stayed there with my brother for a funeral and going there wasn’t an ideal situation to begin with but all of this just made it 100 times worse. Please do better and be kind, you never know what others are going through.

Google
Great experience overall. The view and surrounding areas were gorgeous and lovely. The customer service was so great. They went above and beyond to make is feel welcome. We will definitely stay again!

Google
Welcoming reception and an Oceanview on the 4th floor ( lobby floor). Room very large with King bed, and a full living/dining/kitchen,bar area. Great for traveller's. Free parking underground. Restaurant on-site, breakfast delivery.

Yelp
The location is wonderful. The service is pretty weird. The guy at the front desk played loud weird music to the point where it was difficult to carry on a conversation. The appliances are dated. Fridge freezes your drinks. Old electric stove. If location is consideration, it's great spot. If service is important, I'd go to a more mainstream spot.

Yelp
Expensive but really great hotel, amazing location and sweet service. The views are incredible. My room was a comfortable suite with full kitchen and living room. Bed was really cozy. Tommy Lee has stayed here! I will be back for sure!! Oh... go visit the bakery down the street. Be sure to bring Canadian Cash!

Yelp
I noticed that all the low reviews for this hotel was made a few years ago. My recommendation is to give this place a try because it seems like it's improved since those reviews were made. We came here in Dec for a couple of nights and had a very comfortable stay. The staff are very friendly and so helpful, nothing was too much trouble. We have an electric car and they don't have any specific plugins, however they got someone to walk with my husband to show where all the electrical sockets were in their underground parking. Our room, #312, was very spacious, clean and had everything we needed. Our king size bed was so comfortable and the view from our room was spectacular! Another bonus is that they have a really good restaurant at the top, the Cow. If we are in this neck of the woods again we wouldn't hesitate to stay here.

Yelp
What a beautiful back yard to wake up to! We drove in at night basically passed out after traveling and sightseeing all day. We checked in and showered then passed out. When I woke up in the morning I washed the sleep out of my eyes and wandered out the sliding back door. WOW! JUST. Wow! So why the three stars you ask. Well, the rooms were a bit grungy. There was dust on the sills and spiders in the corners. A little more attention to the cleaning and I will stay here every time I visit. The staff was great. Super helpful and informative. Parking is tight if they are full.

Yelp
We stayed here for two nights on a BC ferries deal and it was perfect. Even though the building is older, they're in the process of updating suites and luckily we had one that has had a face lift. The patio opens right to the waterfront and beach which was perfect for kids and the dog. The size of the one bedroom suite, particularly for the price was nice and the full kitchen was useful. If you're traveling with kids or a dog or both, this is a great option. Not super high end or anything, but comfortable, spacious, great location and lovely view. The pool and hot tub were nice, the hotel restaurant is worth a visit and there's plenty of parking for guests. We'd come back for a weekend get away for sure. Only thing might be other guests lack of consideration on the patio front level to be aware of. We keep our dog under control but not everyone does, so we had a few large poodles peering through our door. But all in all, not enough to discourage us!

Yelp
I don't recommend this hotel. A "cash cow" for an offsite owner who rarely if ever visits the hotel I'm told. We felt as though we were taken advantage of at this hotel after a ten hour travel day. Third class at best. Our room was a "suite" under the commercial washer and dryer. Not what I'd expect for $270/night. We asked for a new room and were told they were not available. But later learned there were other rooms avail. I suggest avoiding this hotel if possible.

Yelp
We stayed at this "hotel" for the three nights. This is run-down very poorly managed establishment which need to be bulldozed and rebuild to look and function as a hotel. We stayed at the room that is located on the third floor. The room is infested with a bed bugs, myself and my fiancée got bitten multiple times by those pests. All the furniture in the room was picked from the garage sales, almost completely worn out, room is filthy and stinky. When I spoke to the housekeeper about it, she told me that it is an ongoing issue and the owner are fully aware of it, but is to cheap to address those issues. I highly recommend you to avoid this establishment at all costs.

Yelp
This may well have started life as a good hotel, but it has fallen on hard times. The rooms are dingy, and stink of cheap cleanser, which has not been as successful as it might have been in removing dirt in the grout around the bath & floor tiles. All the pictures on Yelp, the site, and others are WAY off.... no cushions on the bed, no pictures on the wall, very very bare and unwelcoming. Cheap little tubs, thin towels, no kettle, no other significant utensils. Cheap shampoo, cheap soap.... a physically off-putting experience. Oh, and the "tv service" had only the baseline cable.....which shouldn't matter, but scarcely qualifies for premium service. Finally, as it was, the "off" season, the hotel restaurant was closed. (OK, since we went down street to the Masthead.. qv) On the bright side, the beds were comfortable, and the staff could not be better.... when we said we didn't like the rooms, they courteously showed us others... but none were any kind of improvement. Why 2 stars? Well, none of this would matter, if this booked itself as a cheap hotel, but the prices are right up there with the other fine hotels we stayed at on the island: Point No Point & Old House Hotel & Spa. It cannot hold a CANDLE to these environments and should drop its prices, catering to those who just want to crash for a night.

Yelp
Love lodging that sits on the water, so I paid for an oceanview. The room was actually clean, but not much else made the trip memorable. 1. The actually view includes a lot of commercial venues that I would not have known about prior to arriving. Sure, there's water, but not really attractive. 2. Wi-Fi was not functioning in the rooms (or at least in my room), and I had to do my work in the lobby area, and it was very uncomfortable. Didn't use the room for which I had paid extra except to just sleep. 3. Had breakfast there at the hotel. Expensive and average. I just went to their website's food offerings to remind myself of what I had, and that domain is expiring. I'm pretty sure that it was a smoked salmon benedict with fried potatoes; not bad, but not exciting. I will definitely look for other lodging when I'm in this area (unless there are new owners).

Yelp
Facility: excellent. Service: terrible. Stayed Christmas Day, not advised everything would be closed in Cowichan Bay and Duncan, BC. There. Was. Nowhere. To. Eat. Check-in @4pm. Checkout at 5:40pm. "Oh, but we will still have to charge you for both rooms at $384." "Oh, well I guess you haven't heard of social media reviews"

Yelp
Great location. Great view out back. Comfortable suite room with a lot of space. Seemed to be a short walk to a lot of interesting places down the road too but my time on the island did not allow for that kind of exploration. With a single overnight stay I cannot add much more than that other than good WiFi access to get some work done in the morning before heading back to downtown.

Yelp
Our friends and my husband, (six of us in all ) took a trip at the end of June, 2019 and spent three days and nights at Oceanfront Suites at Cowichan Bay. We were all impressed with the size of the rooms, the cleaniness and the friendliness we encountered during our stay. Shout out to Jennifer at the front desk who went above and beyond for us; giving us information about the area, tours, helping us order pizza, and always asking about our day! She was marvelous!! She's deserves a raise!!! Excellent service, gorgeous view and great restaurant! It certainly made our trip one to remember! Thank you so much, Jennifer, and everyone working at Oceanfront Suites!

Yelp
I stayed here with my husband while he was here for work and I spent my time taking in the sites and exploring the area. On the morning I was supposed to leave , I got a phone call to my room letting me know I had a flat tire. I thought this was so nice that they noticed my tire was flat and let me know before I took the 4 hour trip back home. They even pumped up the tire for me so that I would be able to make it to the local tire company to have it fixed. They were so nice and friendly! Would definitely stay here again because their customer service was so great!

Yelp
My first impression was the poor customer service. We arrived to attend a wedding which was to be at 5:00pm and check in was not until 4:00pm. We asked if it was possible to check in early as we had a wedding to get ready for. The front desk clerk named Jennifer re-iterated that check in was not until 4:00pm, and that I could get ready in the pool shower room.... really? She went on to say that the room was actually ready but had not been inspected. She said she would call us when it had been inspected. We left for 2 hours and then returned with the Groom (we had 3 rooms there). When my husband asked if it was possible for us to check in early, she replied that the room had still had not been inspected.... to which my husband asked if we could just have the room anyways since it was ready. Jennifer was extremely rude, arrogant and not accommodating at all considering we were trying to get to a wedding on time. I understand rules, but it was the tone of her voice and the manner in which she treated us. She could have just said, we will see what we can do and try our very best. Which is what most hotels would do. Best service was in the restaurant area, friendly staff, and beautiful view. Facility: great Service: terrible

Yelp
This hotel was selected to house friends and family for a wedding, and I can't imagine the choice being any better. Plenty of parking place, the view of the bay was out of a travel magazine, and the room has a small living room and kitchenette and can host a family of six. The staff goes above and beyond to make your stay a pleasant one. My especial thanks to Sarah who makes the worlds best Bloody Caesar, and who goes out of her way to accommodate you, even when the restaurant is packed. And if it happens to be a cold day, try the Irish coffee.

Yelp
It was worthy of two recent stays in a month . . . . I kept expectations low, knowing that it has changed names and/or ownership a number of times since built. I go a lot with feel, vibe and aesthetics at hotels, and this one pleasantly surprised me on all levels. It has a home away from home feel. It's an all-suite hotel with beautiful harbour and sunrise/sunset views. First stay was a 4th floor suite. It was quiet, clean, furnished well enough with an apartment-like kitchen, living room and separate bedroom with king size, comfy bed. Two old, boxy TVs, but they worked well enough with Shaw cable. Wi-fi was strong and consistent. The heat lamp/fan was too noisy. The suite had been renovated at least once by the look of it, but is still dated to the late 90s. Age and condition of furnishings don't bug me, cleanliness is more important. The sweeping views to the bay and mountains makes it all good. Second stay was a more expensive first floor suite with walk out patio, which was a bonus for walks and bocce on the lawn. This suite was showing more wear on the furniture, walls, carpet and paint finish. It wasn't as clean as the first, including the nose print on the sliding glass, and grimy "marble" floors. The wi-fi wasn't working, but the heat lamp/fan was. The sweeping views to the bay and mountains makes it all good (again). The indoor pool, hot tub and sauna is a nice perk, even if old school. Although, the second stay morning had a sign saying the hot tub was closed to 4pm. The fitness room looks well outfitted for its small size, but I found a broken seat adjuster on the Apollo 350 machine, other adjusters badly in need of silicone spray and the heart rate monitor not working on the stair climber. A sign at reception had been there two weeks advising the two treadmills were out of order. This is not a good sign of maintenance for fitness types. The restaurant on the 5th floor serves a wonderful breakfast with beautiful floor to ceiling views to the bay and mountains. For under $20 the two of us got a full hot breakfast each visit, as their weekday special. I like how you can sub the hash browns for balsamic tomatoes - a healthy bowl of roasted zing to go with the eggs, garnished with fresh dill for only $1.50 extra. The service is friendly, but don't be in a hurry, take in the view. Reception is friendly, but understaffed - a wait each time, but hey, we are on an island. Parking is free, either underground or out front, and the hotel is perfectly positioned close to the wharf and the quaint village for romantic walks, gourmet offerings and funky shops. The location, viewscapes and roomy suites, trump the shortcomings so far, such that we will return.

Yelp
We recently booked my husband's parent's 65th wedding anniversary at the Oceanfront Suites for app. 25 people. Enjoyed the warmth and hospitality of all the staff. The meal and service was outstanding! A very special shout out to the Executive Chef and gracious "host", Terry Giannakos. He has instituted a new and truly amazing menu and all meals were executed well. The views are unparalleled. As a matter of fact as my brother in law was making his speech for the parents, he was interrupted by the arrival of a pod of orcas right in the bay beside us. Of course everyone went to the windows for a truly remarkable sight! The rooms are comfortable albeit slightly dated. The local cheese shop/cafe is delightful and friendly. And don't miss the shrimp boat at the dock...try some of the smaller "white and pink shrimps' - just poach and blanche and enjoy a flavor you will not soon forget. Note: Cowichan Bay is a funky little touristy village with local shops and small restaurants. A very pleasant place.

Yelp
If you want to wake up refreshed and experience some of the most relaxing views of the water -STAY HERE! I woke up every morning rejuvenated and excited because of the sunlight pouring in through the floor to ceiling sliding glass windows on the bedroom. The bed was comfortable, the suite was large and the bar stayed open late for our group. Extremely accommodating and free wifi is always a plus :)
google avatar

Rebecca C.

Yelp
The location is perfect, right at the end of Cowichan Bay's main street, with a stunning view of the harbour and bay. The large windows provided perfect entertainment: we often curled up with tea at the end of the day, watching the boats go by and seals swimming laps right below our window. Our room was enormous, almost too big, with lots of empty space, but can't really complain about being able to spread out. The kitchen was modern, with newish appliances, and a few utensils for cooking, although it wasn't the most equipped hotel kitchen we've ever seen. We had to improvise a bit to cook some meals. The kitchen and bathroom were very clean, although the window railings were so dirty and covered in bird droppings, we never wanted to lean on them while looking outside. The bed was comfortable and we always slept well there. We checked out the gym and pool. They were pretty good, and the restaurant upstairs has a lot of potential. There was a cute little space designed to be a wine bar near the restaurant that was seemingly deserted. Maybe they will open up something there in the future. The hotel was undergoing renovations while we were there, so it looks to improve further.

Yelp
We stayed at a suite and the room and the kitchen are facing the ocean view~ the room was clean and the front desk staff are very nice. we felt welcome.

K W.

Yelp
Rooms were clean. Oceanview is a must. Pool hours better than most hotels and easy access to the outdoor seating area. Restaurant (Cow Cafe?) highly recommend. Service was excellent, the staff very friendly and the food and dessert was fantastic. Try sitting near the window for the sunset. Too bad they close at 9pm and no room service...yet.

Esme B.

Yelp
We booked an Oceanfront Patio King suite for 4 adults and paid a premium price for this accommodation. Although the suite was spacious the amenities were lacking. Only two plates, two coffee mugs, two glasses, two towels when they were specifically told there would be 4 adults. Housekeeping had to be called many times over a two day period. One of the guests in the suite is highly allergic to cats and dogs and got really sick due to the room not being cleaned properly/being pet friendly. I would suggest that certain rooms are kept aside as completely pet free. We also had a toddler with us and unfortunately the people in the suite above ours were partying until the early hours of the morning! Again, when booking guests into accommodation, more care should be given as to where guests are placed. The suite itself is very outdated! The stove and fridge must date back to the '50s and the one pot and one pan are old and disgusting and should be discarded! Although there is a wall mounted TV the wires connecting the tv to the wall plug is exposed and dangerous! All in all, the only positive comments are the location of the property and the friendly staff. The photos on-line are very misleading as what you see is definitely not what you get!

Yelp
We had our wedding reception here in 2006, and it was a PERFECT place to hold it. All of the rooms face the bay and mountain range, which is beautiful up here in Cowichan Bay. We come up a couple times a year to visit family, and one of our highlights is for my wife and I to have brunch or dinner in the restaurant overlooking the water. The food is good, prices are good, and the service is as excellent as it is friendly.

AJ W.

Yelp
As others have commented, the rooms really need an upgrade - the exterior, hallways, and kitchens do not look like they have been touched since the 1980s. Dealings with hotel staff were awkward. The stay was not worth the price.

Matthew L.

Yelp
Very nice hotel. It's clearly been recently renovated, and the rooms are huge--all of them are suites with an ocean view (it's really quite spectacular). The kitchens and sofabeds are good for families, as well. The pool and hot tub area is very nice (and has a water view too), and the village of Cowichan Bay is really adorable. Parking is included but a lot of the spots are a little narrow and hard to get in and out of.

Yelp
Loved the vibe. If you are looking for a happening big city stay keep looking but if you want to get away with an amazing view ( I grew upon the coast and this place blew me away) stay here. Great pace, sweet staff, mind blowing views. Restaurant was ok needs more renovations but a good chef, the patio looks on the main road which makes no sense. Well stocked gym compared to most hotels. But again huge room, great bed mind blowing views. Locals are eclectic but as mentioned I grew up on the coast so it was sweet and like home rather then small minded and weird. would go again... Actually already planning it

Joy B.

Yelp
Would not stay at this hotel again. Desk staff need some lessons in hospitality. We booked on line and the photos displayed were a newly renovated modern suite but the desk staff first put us in an old suite on the main floor then tried to move us to another suite on the 4 th floor but it was also a disaster. After some discussion at the front desk they finally showed us one of the suites that had been newly renovated on the 5th floor which was the one we had originally booked. The next discussion was that suite was more expensive so the increase would be $50 .... NOT The restaurant was closed due to a private party however there was no private party as the chef had quit.... The public is not that stupid to believe your exaggerations..... Cowichan Bay is a really beautiful setting and very peaceful but I'll be looking for other accommodation. Bad experience all around

J. C.

Yelp
Pool was kept warmer than I want. If you want to just relax in the pool, the temperature is perfect. But if you want to do laps, you would wish it were cooler. Speaking about warm water, the shower takes several minutes to get to a steamy (comfortably steamy) temperature. The shower in the pool change room is much better in this regard; instant hot.

Shannon W.

Yelp
Stayed one night here recently was terrible, some event above our room came with pounding music and partying well after midnight. Have little kids complained 3 times, said the event was booked couldn't change it offered breakfast in am? Then around midnight offered new room but by then 1 child was sleeping the rest of us got no sleep most of the night. Never stay here again! Terrible experience. Restaurant so loud!

D B.

Yelp
We went to the pool upon arrival and assumed there would be some pool towels somewhere as there were only 2 towels in the actual room. There was a sign in the change room stating that they no longer provide towels due to theft. Would have been great to know before we made the trek down there. The floors in the change room were muddy and the ceiling paint just above the pool was peeling off into the pool. When I went to retrieve something that had fallen on the floor I found used kleenex under the side table. We pulled back the duvet on one of the beds for our daughter to go to sleep and to our horror found blood on the sheets. They did come up to change the sheets but it did not leave me feeling confident about any of the linens in the place. We found silverfish throughout the room. The restaurant was great with fantastic staff however it is not connected to the hotel. The drawers in the front hall desk were full of outdated travel brochures and so it was frustrating trying to find some updated material for our stay. The next morning we were gathering our things and I found dirty socks, that were not ours, under the bed skirt. Would never recommend this place!
