Don’t expect to be treated as a customer if you are not German/ white. At first the waitress told us to go away because there was no space left. And then she told us the wait was 30 minutes which we then agreed to wait for. Not even 5 minutes later she comes out and tells us our table is ready. No one would take our order no matter how much we asked or made eye contact. Waiter who took our order slapped the coasters on our table like we owed him money. When the food came he pushed everything on our table while we were moving other things to make space. Throughout the whole service he didn’t say a single word to us but was friendly explaining the dishes and wines to other German/ white tables. Don’t come here if you are not German/ white. Food was pretty decent though.

Google
Excellent Swabian restaurant. Top service. The food is excellent and the menu is extensive. There are typical Swabian recipes and more general southern German choices. The spare ribs were delicious, as was the Stuttgarter Platte. An excellent place to choose is you are hungry in the city centre.

As a non German speaker (English only) I was nervous about going to what seemed like a very local restaurant, before we even entered we were greeted with a smile, when the servers noticed we did not speak German they immediately made us feel welcomed in English. The food was incredible and the service was fantastic I would return to Stuttgart just to come dine here again!

Google
I traveled all over Germany, and it was the most cost-effective and delicious Haksen. Recommendations and again strong recommendations.

To start with something positive, the service was good. Even though the restaurant was pretty much full at our time of arrival, they still managed to give us a table. We didn't have to wait long for the waiter to take our orders and the food got served fast. The atmosphere was nice, cozy and typical German. I ordered the spareribs and the presentation of the dish was very boring. It was just a plate and a rib where they just put some sauce on. The sauce smelled like urine, luckily it didn't taste like it, the flavour was not bad. The ribs weren't very tender and quite dry and definitely not worth the price.

It's my first time visiting Stuttgart, of course I need to try some traditional dish, Knusprige Riesenhaxe (pork knuckle) is very tasty, but the portion is very big for me, I highly recommend you should order one then share with the table, and the beer Weizen is so easy to drink especially Im not a beer drinker 🤟

Google
The food was good especially the rosty and pork knuckle. However, the service was poor, the waitress was “polite” “nice” and “kind”. We ordered 4 foods to share amongst us and a six years old girl, given only 3 plates & not enough cutlery… asked for another plate but she counted the amount of food we ordered… perhaps the culture is different in which one person has to order one portion but i guess not normal and easy for a six years old girl to finish 1 portion.

I had a delightful experience at this restaurant last Saturday. Finding a table for two was a breeze. The Bavarian-inspired decor creates a cozy atmosphere. Ordering was quick, and the food arrived promptly, bursting with flavor. The friendly service added to the enjoyment, and the prices were fair. I thoroughly enjoyed my time here.

Yelp
Came here for quick lunch. Great services and the salad bar is excellent. Its located right nearby the center of attractions and this is one of the places that served traditional Swabian cuisine. The pork feet is definitely worth trying here. I wish I stay here longer so I can try more of their delicious food! Perfect place for family/friends/solo dining. Card accepted.

Yelp
This was a good restaurant. The server was friendly and tentative. The food came fast which we did not expect considering how busy it was. The atmosphere was cozy and authentic. I had a daily special, which included a soup with a dumpling and two bratwurst with potato salad.

Yelp
After a pass though the Schlossplatz and past the Christmas market, it was time for a proper dinner. My hostess brought us to Ochs'n Willi for proper Swabian food. We had a quick COVID check at the door where my Swiss QR cade worked just fine and we were shown to an inside table. They also have some private outdoor "cabin" tables if that's more your style. I ordered a local beer - Sunwald Kristallweizen - and my hostess suggested the Schwäbische Maultaschen. These are basically meat-stuffed pillows and way back when, they were made by nuns and served on meatless Fridays except they're actually meat but "hidden from God" inside the pastries. And the cold potato salad which was amazing. Service was very good and the restaurant is quite lovely. With the semi-private tables and the exposed wood everywhere, it ticks the boxes for comfortable dining. [Review 16406 overall - 211 in Germany - 1913 of 2021.]

Yelp
Came here twice on a row. One of the best place for authentic Haxen in Stuttgart!!! There arefour star rating in google as well! Highly recommended for dinner with some local biere!

Christina C.

Yelp
A good place to have some lunch or dinner after or before shopping. The service is so far always great and very friendly. Most server are able to understand and speak English. The Menu card is in German and English. The food is mostly Swabian/German cuisine. Definitely recommend Ochs'n Willi.

Yelp
Great location and I will say 4 years ago the food and service was better. Party of 4 with 2 toddlers sleeping in stroller. My ham bone was good, as expected. Two of the other three orders had noodles that were not made fresh. Spoke to waiter and he said we should have complained earlier (literally like a few minutes after the dish was served). Maybe it was because half of our party was Chinese but seriously you should treat every patron the same. Same level of service but today you fell well short.

Yelp
Asked my hotel concierge for recommendations where to go for dinner. His first recommendation was fabulous. On my second night, he suggested either Ochs'n Willi or another place nearby. He said the other place was more touristy, and Ochs'n Willi was sort of tucked in a corner and where the locals would be more likely to eat. The concierge was 2 for 2 - both my first night and second night dinner in Stuttgart were amazingly good. Ochs'n Willi is sort of tucked away in a corner behind the big glass cube building. I went about 7:30 p.m. on a Friday night. The place was full and there were two groups waiting ahead of me in line for a table. Soon a few tables emptied and I think I was seated within about 10 minutes of arrival. It was a little cramped and crowded, but three of us sat comfortably at our wood table with a wood corner bench. They have a pretty long menu and the front half is in German and the second half is in English. The beer, as always just about everywhere I go in Germany, was excellent. The soup with the Norwegian salmon and garlic bread crutons in it was fabulous. The pork medalions with mushrooms, spaztle, and broccoli with hollandaise sauce was amazingly good. Ochs'n Willy was very good and I look forward to going back!

Yelp
I don't know why, but when coming across this restaurant in the search results for schweinshaxe, I thought this place would be some dive/ college pub. I couldn't be any more wrong This place is clean and classy. Flowers and fresh table cloths at every table. As for the food, my Knusprige mit semmelknödel und spreckkrautsalat was simply amazing. The skin on there was so crunchy that I had to use the knife to pick away at it. To think they kept it attached while keeping the meat moist is mindblowing. When eating it, all I could think was that it was pork gift with a chicharron wrapper. I've been looking for anything close in the New York/ New Jersey area. I don't think it's going to happen. The side dishes were also delicious and perfect complements to the fatty pork. I had not eaten all day, and at close to 7pm, I was still not able to finish my entire meal. The service was great, and they had quite a few beers to choose from for a reasonable price. I would go back here whenever I visit again.

Yelp
The only word I can express my feeling is WOW This is a really good traditional German style restaurant. Really recommend to come here for a dinner or lunch. Strong recommended.

Yelp
Guys. What do you look for? Swabian right in the centre? Here you are. An it is soooo original. As a German I am still impressed. Professional. Good quality. And nice staff. Ok the waiter was from Poland. So what? We cannot expect they are from Minnesota:-) my American friends where overwhelmed and appreciated the food and the set up. Is it touritic? For sure. No thing! But at top level. Can you find better places? Sure for 30€ taxi ride I know many. Will you enjoy it? I did and it was great to order a pan with mixed meat called Ochs Willy Grillpfanne. Wein ok to good. Beer great. So enjoy your stay there ignoring these weird commentaries that I do not understand as a German. It is a great place to dive into Swabian food Art right in the centre of Stuttgart:-) this an easy catch!

Tricia R.

Yelp
Service is great, they make every attempt to seat you as soon as poossi le eveN if that means you share a table which means you can make new friends. I enjoy this place for fresh and fried food alike. All my friends have enjoyyed their meal as well. Some of the meals come with thhe salad bar. Keep in mind they will give you a specific plate that shall be used for the salad bar. We americans dont really get it but it's the German way so follow suit. Salad dishes are huge portions. I suspect they think vegetarian need double amount. At any rate, its awesome!!

Yelp
The name and design of the initial logo of the restaurant gives a little cheap chain like impression, with the logo and name the restaurant sounds fun. The interior is decorated very cozy with the wood décor and Christmas feel makes for a very comfortable place to dine. When you enter it seems small but there is more dining area in the back. That is also where the smorgasbord of a salad buffet can be fount. It had over a dozen choices to choose from including many varieties of vegetables, beans, pasta and dressings. You could get full off the salad alone. I had the "Kartoffelsahnesuppe" (creamed potato soup with slices of salmon) as a starter and it was delicious. It was perfectly creamy in texture and had a wonderfully strong yet not too strong flavor. The "Lachsfiletspitzen" was soft and covered with a creamy hollandaise sauce was made well. The accompanied balls of I believe what was Rotsi were lightly crisp, fresh and also good. I said "believe" because they seemed more like bitterballen but without the core taste. So Rotsi it will be. Even the orangensaft was on point because after lots of walking. That certainly quenched my thirst. The fries were thin and crispy, good fries. The food here is 4-5 stars good. The waitress was very nice but a bit slow. We were seated very promptly, got our food pretty fast but trying to get her for anything like napkins or extra fork might take 10-15 minutes. Oh yes, recommended and would visit again.

Yelp
Food was not like how I expected,it was just ok, but portion is huge.i don't really like the service.they are very busy, but the service is not that friendly. We were 8 pers, they have seat, but the chief doesn't give the seat to us because she doesn't trust we had 8 pers, she asked me wait 30mins and wait my friends coming.....

Yelp
If you want a traditional German meal. Look no further. Went here at short notice and loved every minute! Had the giant pork leg with bread dumpling and white cabbage. Simply the best I've ever eaten. It was a huge meal but I did my best. Our party of three had a variety of meals and they were all good. The cheese noodles seemed a bit of an acquired taste but I liked them. The staff were good even though didn't speak much English. We never felt out of place our unwelcome. Highly recommended.

Cherry T.

Yelp
It's really good! My mom and I ordered a pork leg and a plate of salad, but couldn't finish the meal because it was too huge! The wine was pretty good and staff were nice. Strongly recommend!!!!!!!

Tina L.

Yelp
The food was really good . I had the fish and my partner had the meat , we both equally enjoyed our meals . Plus they had my favourite banana beer. The service was fast and very straight forward . I went back the next day for lunch .

Yelp
Really enjoyed the traditional German food here. Seemed like a traditional place in the middle of Stuttgart. Service was very good The fried pork leg was interesting and satisfied a southern pork craving. Like roasted hamhock covered in fried porkskin. Huge amount of food

Jason E.

Yelp
Good Food. Good Beer. Good Friends. Good Atmosphere. What's not to like? I came here with a couple of local friends. The wait staff was excellent; friendly and attentive. I had not had a real Germany meal before coming here. Sure I had plenty of bratwurst and butterbrezels, along with my fair share of fresh pastries, but not like this. I couldn't tell you what I had because I don't remember the name, but it involved a few different cuts of meat, green beans, and french fries (pommes frites). I don't normally like green beans, but these were great. They were wrapped in bacon, and you know anything, once wrapped in bacon, transforms into a culinary masterpiece. Ochs 'n Willis serves a variety of German cuisine from across the country, but mostly items famous to southern Germany, and some of the dishes with a more Swiss influence as well. All in a great tavern-like setting with wood beams in the ceiling and white-painted stucco walls. Great atmosphere. This place is popular, so get here early to get a table without waiting. Many of the tables are reserved for regulars. We got there around 5 and were able to sit at a reserved table with no problem.

Lenny A.

Yelp
The service was great but the food just average. The Salmon dinner was not very flavorful for the price and the breadcrumb mustard encrusted pork was mostly fat and gristle.

Natasha K.

Yelp
If your looking for some German food where you can actually read the menu if you don't speak German this is a great place to go. There is both indoor and outdoor seating but beware if its raining it might be hard to get a table! I have been here twice on vacation because the food and service were both great. The waitstaff does speak some English and the menu is in several languages, (German, English, and Russian I believe). This first time I was there I had a battered and fried pork dish with cheese noodles, I highly recommend the cheese noodles, Spaetzel is the regular type and Kase Spaetzel is the kind with cheese, kind of like mac and cheese but better! The second time I had the stuffed noodles, with pork and spinach, (a cross between ravioli and lasagna) with potato salad, also very good. Service during lunch is very quick even though both times the restaurant was full.

Blayke L.

Yelp
Good food, good service, and good menu. Salad bar is the best and so is what I would call "loaded potato", stuffed with cheese, pork and other goodies. Very clean and good for families!

Mario B.

Yelp
Ok - I'm originally from Stuttgart and now live in Miami. If you want to eat some real German food, this is the place! We've eaten here twice when visiting family... The place is amazing. First, the food is fantastic. Maultaschen Soup, Kaesespaetzle, Wienerschnitzel, and the Knoedel are all first rate. Actually, we haven't had anything here that wasn't really good. The place is usually quite busy, but man are they fast. Food came within 5 minutes of ordering even though they were packed and we were a group of 12. Not everything came at once, but it just kept coming. What more can you ask for? Great food and great service. 5 stars!

Dian L.

Yelp
Lest I forget one of my few good memories of Stuttgart, I found the card of Ochs'n Willi. I remember a large bowl of rosti set in front of me and a large hunk of meat (haxn...) before my other family members. I was not much impressed with the cheese covered rosti, but the meat was delicious. Warmth, copious plates of food, the closest I had to a German welcome in a city that amounts to a large, cold, quasi-Stalinist concrete mall.

Charles C.

Yelp
The food and atmosphere was great! We loved this place and it was one of our first stops. It's a little hard to find - in the bottom level of a large building on a side street at the end of the mall walkway, but it is worth trying to find! We tried the breaded pork and beef bits on cheese spaetzle and had baked apple and ice cream for dessert. One of the best meals we had in Germany. The beer selection was great and we passed around our glasses at the table so we could try them all. The staff was very friendly. It was a busy night and there was a small communication barrier with our waitress, but nothing to worry about. All of the dishes floating around looked wonderful and there appeared to be regulars there - based on the communication with the staff. Either that, or the staff is just that friendly. We loved the countryside, so we probably won't be staying in Stuttgart again, but when we fly in we will be sure to make a quick stop for the food here!!

Qype User (jiris…)

Yelp
I'll agree with rjsarles on this one that its a great restaurant and a best kept secret. I think I figured out the reason why its a secret though. I lived here 2 years before I tried it because of the ridiculous font of their sign! For some reason it looks very silly to me, but be aware the food is very real and very good. Serious amounts of food, steaks and giant pork knuckles.

Scotty W.

Yelp
Was great food for the price and great for the drunk munchies. Definitely a decent wine and beer menu which is perfect place since I live about 3 block's from here and would definitely recommend this place if you're in Stuttgart and are having trouble finding a good place to go

Jeff W.

Yelp
I absolutely love this place. The food is excellent, the prices are fair and the location is right in the heart of Stuttgart's city center.

Mark C.

Yelp
The Haxnpfanderl was excellent. This place is really busy and they will sit you at a table with others if nothing else is available. Do it for the food!

Luciano Z.

Yelp
A typical german restaurant, the food and the service were OK, but there is nothing special about this place. Wouldnt recommend it

St Clair M.

Yelp
I had the big pork leg with half dumpling and weird salad. The wife had chicken and what was very similar to a hash brown from McD's. Nice place but wasn't used to the traditional German food I guess. Good service

Mori Y.

Yelp
One of the fastest restaurants I have been to. We sat down and within moments felt beers in our hands and in our stomach. Soon to be followed with delicious salads and for me a giant pork leg. The food was good compared to most restaurants in the area albeit I did find the pork leg through Yelp and knew exactly what I was going there for. The interior of the restaurant is quite fake looking, most of the things around being hollow, but service was nice and food was good. I will remember that I stuffed myself at Ochs'n Willi.

Robert S.

Yelp
This is a great little restaurant and one of the best kept secrets of the Königstrasse. The food is excellent and while they have all the traditional Schwabian favs that you'd expect, most people go for the steaks. Americans who want a flame grilled steak may be a little disappointed but you won't find a better place than this in the Stadtmitte. They also have pork ribs on the menu. The bbq sauce is not perfect but I haven't had better in Germany :) The service has always been very friendly and professional and if the ambiance wasn't quite so traditional and rustic I'd give this place the 5th star.

Qype User (fishne…)

Yelp
such a friendly place, food is yummy and much amount, inside is old German style.

Rachel Sang-hee H.

Yelp
A bit tricky to star rate this restaurant and brewery since it's known to be a very "traditional" Schwabian place. Traditional places tend to be great the first two or three times, and in my experience, after a year or two living in Stuttgart, I don't find myself visiting here without a purpose to introduce Schwabian food to a guest. That said, this restaurant offers good meals, great beers and a cozy, slightly loud ambiance. The interior is quite homey and German, meaning there's a lot of wood around you, nothing fancy and simple tableware. As I said, the food is good, the beer that they brew themselves is great (but can be pricey) but the staff? I never really considered them to be particularly rude (Alas, this is Stuttgart where the staff is almost never really kind and friendly), but they can sometimes be a bit unreasonable. What's all the rush? I have to say if you have a friend, family, or any guest you want to introduce a bit of the traditional cuisine and also good beer, this may be a great place to start with. But personally, I don't find myself going just for the food, beer or even the service. (Side note, they do have a good brunch buffet. You can start with brunch and gradually make your way to the lunch buffet.)

Brodie Z.

Yelp
Good interior design, love the side chair. Had tender turkey and self-service salad: delicious :-) and enjoy the sunshine too

T F.

Yelp
Ok but could have been better. We unfortunately had to wait 45minutes to be seated. Understandable as a party of 5 to a point. If you see their seating management however... I know places with a first come, first served policy. Not 'who yells the loudest, first served'. Prices are ok considering location and huge dimensions of portions. On a busy day like Sunday night it's hard to get waiter's attention. Food came quickly, steaming hot and was very tasty.
