10000% recommend this place. Here’s the VERY in depth review I know you’re looking for:
I booked a Big Bend as a surprise for my boyfriend for our anniversary. I wanted a place that helped us extend the experience into our evening accommodations, and boy did this place deliver. We visited 2/20-2026-2/23/2026 and here are my thoughts:
1. This is a self check in property. HOWEVER, we had the best service. The gentleman who runs the property (not the owner but the older guy who lives on site and literally does it all ie cleaning, prep, repairs, etc) was awesome. He flagged us down when we got there and showed us the ins and out of the entire property when he didn’t have to. Because of that, there was a lot we don’t have to guess on or waste time figuring out. He also was up at the crack of dawn every day and the facilities were always immaculate. OWNERS: if you see this- he’s awesome and I wish I could remember his name but great employee
2. This place was exactly what I wanted. A frame with a queen bed, enough room for luggage, a sturdy tie/latch that lets you “lock” it at night, a very well working AC/heat unit, electricity plugs, micro fridge to hold our beer and lunch supplies, and campfire pit for the best after hour time (we bought firewood ahead of time but you can buy it there). The plexiglass ceiling and doors gave the best stargazing views at night and morning sunrise views from bed.
3. We LOVED the facilities. The shower and toilet area was always warm, away from the wind, and very clean. The indoor showers were perfect. The floor is heated thought the water heater and the water was always hot. So even when it was 40 degrees we had a relaxing, warm shower. Also, there were two shower heads in each spacious shower with fairy lights so it was a romantic experience for my boyfriend and I.
4. Very convenient location! The property was close to Terlingua so we ate out for dinner each night with a sub 5 min drive. Also very close to the entrance to the park and not too far from the state park.
5. My boyfriend and I travel a good bit and have been to many national parks. It’s not often that we start somewhere we are crazy impressed by, but this was one of them. We stayed for 3 nights and had ZERO complaints.
This is all to say this place is worth the price and is so awesome. Great experience and facilities. We will be returning and have already recommended it to others. (Ps we stayed in the Little Dipper. I suggest choosing an A frame that is east facing to get the best views and be the closest to the facilities and farthest from the main road).
Also I’m not being not paid or anything to post this I just really love writing the kind of reviews I hope to see when looking for a place to stay on a trip!
