Octant Hotels Douro

This is honestly one of the best hotels I’ve ever stayed in, truly next-level in every way. We booked the Riverview room, and it was absolutely perfect, the view was spectacular, and every little detail in the room felt luxurious and thoughtfully designed. There are two outdoor pools: one on the 10th floor with an incredible panoramic view (perfect for summer), and another on a lower floor, also with stunning scenery. I heard the water there is warmer, though I didn’t get to try it because the weather was cloudy and cool. The indoor pool, however, is just wow. It has an amazing view too, and even the poolside beds were the most comfortable I’ve ever experienced. On the first night, they surprised us with a sleep kit, a pillow mist, eye mask, and earplugs. Such a small gesture, but it really showed how much they care about their guests and the quality of their stay. There are plenty of cozy spots around the hotel to relax with a coffee, and you can order hot drinks almost anywhere. Every corner feels warm and inviting, with breathtaking views all around. I highly recommend this hotel, whether you’re traveling as a couple or with family. Everything was perfect, the staff was incredibly kind, and the service was excellent from start to finish.

I stayed at Octant Douro for two nights, and it was truly unforgettable. My River View room was absolutely stunning — waking up to those views was a highlight in itself. The entire property is beautifully designed and feels serene and luxurious. Breakfast each morning was excellent, with great variety and warm, attentive service throughout my stay. The spa was another standout; the steam circuit in particular was incredible and made for such a relaxing experience. My only regret is not staying longer. I will definitely be back at some point — this is a place that stays with you long after you leave, can’t recommend enough!

Arguably the greatest hotel I've ever visited. Every part of our experience was class. The team is kind, welcoming, and prompt to accommodate any request. The rooms are stunning - serene as can be with gorgeous views everywhere you look. The architecture of the property is one of a kind. Walking through the hotel, one can see the luxurious interior blending perfectly with the encompassing nature surrounding us. Every pool is fantastic, each offering a different experience. The food everywhere on the property is excellent. The breakfast buffet is the greatest I've ever been offered at a hotel, but the absolute star is the Raiva restaurant. The prix fixe blew us away. I will be looking for any excuse to return here and relive the getaway of a lifetime.

We had our wedding at Octant in October 2025. It was a wonderful experience once we got to the actual wedding itself; however one part was particularly sub-par: the planning. Our experience working with their events coordinator Andreia was so stressful that I couldn't recommend the venue to another couple looking for a venue in Portugal. Her communication with us and our wedding planners was so poor and unprofessional, that it made our wedding planning borderline not fun or exciting due to stress. We honestly don't know how our wedding would have turned out if it wasn't for our amazing wedding planners who went above and beyond at each step of the way to ensure our wedding came together in the end. When I say things were challenging, I'm not even talking about particularly complex things we struggled to get responses from Andreia on; for example, after asking for the dimensions of our reception space, we were left waiting a few months with no reply, and our wedding planners who aren't based in the area, had to make a 6 hr trip to the venue to get the measurements themselves! It was like pulling teeth to get even the most basic information and took an absurdly long time to ever get a straight answer. Others eventually stepped in on Octant's management side to help as we got closer to our big day, and when they did, the shortcomings in Andreia's support was even more magnified as they were able to help us way faster and communicated way better. If possible to work with someone else as an event coordinator for a wedding, then perhaps I could recommend Octant for your wedding. But if partnered with Andreia as we were, I strongly advise against it - especially if you are based far away like we were and need to rely on others to help manage key details on your behalf. The other major issue we had & 6 of our guests had was credit card processing. Octant has a horrible credit card processing system and it caused our guests an absolute nightmare and poor first impression to pay. Andreia was not helpful with this part either. Other than that we had a magical experience at Octant! The rest of the staff are so wonderful, warm and inviting. The food was the best wedding food one could ask for- which we continue to recieve lots of compliments on (hats off to the chef)! Octant management was also great to work with to help sort out the communication issues during the wedding weekend. Everything went without major issues and all of our guests raved about how epic of a wedding weekend it was, largely due to the magical location and beautiful setup of Octant!

I recently stayed at Octant Douro and it was an unforgettable experience. The setting is incredibly serene, with beautiful grounds that make it easy to relax and unwind. What truly stood out, though, was the staff — I have never encountered a team so genuinely committed to going above and beyond for their guests. Every interaction felt warm, thoughtful, and personal. The food and beverage program was outstanding, offering both quality and creativity at a very reasonable price point. Dining here was a highlight of the stay. The spa amenities were also exceptional — truly some of the best I’ve experienced, and the perfect complement to the peaceful atmosphere of the property. Everything about Octant Douro struck the perfect balance of luxury, comfort, and value. I would not hesitate to return and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a memorable getaway in Portugal.

I really enjoyed my stay at Octant Douro. The design and atmosphere are beautiful, and the rooms feel calm and comfortable. I especially loved the river view with perspective, it made the space feel open and connected to nature. Breakfast in the room was a highlight, such a peaceful start to the day. The food was very good, though for a longer stay the menu feels a bit limited. Overall, a wonderful place to slow down and enjoy both nature and comfort.

Very wonderful stay. Disappointed in the food though. ||GOOD|We had the fullview room, and it was wonderful. Views were incredible. Having the terrace and a balcony was very cool. |The resort itself was fantastic. They recently retrofited a pool to be heated which was great, but the adults only pool was just about the same temperature but not heated. |We did the Octant I boat trip at sunset and that was just incredible. The family that hosted us were great, and the boat itself was very comfortable. ||BAD|Honestly, nothing, other than a few food issues.|1. Room service just wasn't very good. The pizza was soggy and slightly uncooked. The rest of the food was frankly kind of gross. ||2. We ate at the "fancy" restaurant one night, called Raiva. Nice setting. However, when I checked in, they asked if I had allergies. I told them I had a nut and seed allergy. |When I ordered bread, one of the two types of bread that came out had seeds. So no biggy, I didn't eat it and ate the other kind. When I ordered my main, i reminded them of my allergies. Then when my pork loin came out, it was full of seeds in the sauce. At that point, I told them "sorry but this has seeds all in the sauce. Moreover, the bread had seeds as well"|They brought me my food back out which took about 7 minutes, meanwhile my wife's food was either going to get cold, or would be eating without me. A restaurant of that quality and in the michelin guide, they really should have refired both. |Anyways, then, after our mains, they brought out some pastries. All of the pastries they provided had seeds or nuts in them. I told the waiter, and he said "oh it's ok, it just optional pastries. You don't need to eat them", i replied "well, i'd like to. But as I've now mentioned a few times, no seeds or nuts for me please. |They brought me something else instead after I insisted. |I was shocked that they didn't take anything off of the bill. A total of 5 items had seeds, and I had told them a total of 4 times. I would have expected them to at least take the bread off since I was only able to eat half of it. ||3. the decor of the rooms is a little weird, and could probably need some renovation. It was very sterile looking and a bit dated despite having an "Avant garde" look. It didn't really match the vibe of the hotel all that well.

My stay at this 5-star hotel was overall very good, but the hotel itself lacked the character and attention to detail I would expect from a property of this level. There was no iron in the room, and the tea selection was very limited. In fact, there wasn’t even black tea provided which feels inconsiderate, as for many people tea is part of their culture, and not offering it shows a lack of inclusivity for guests from different backgrounds. Housekeeping also needs better follow-up and attention to detail for example, the hand wash and shampoo were empty, and I had to call to have them refilled. Small things like this made it feel less than a true 5-star experience. On the positive side, the food was excellent and the location is great.
