This place is a local gem! We came in from the Chicago area to hike and grab a bite to eat here and the food was delicious! The small town feel and atmosphere of the place reminded me of where I grew up and felt so homely. The restaurant was full of chatter and movement (in the best way possible). You could tell it is a local favorite and the other reviews reflect that as well. We ordered the roasted edamame appetizer, buffalo chicken fries, the chicken sandwich, and a couple of tasty adult beverages. Everything was spectacular and very fresh. 😋 We are excited to stop by the next time we are in town.

This restaurant was found via Google maps on a recent trip around Lake Michigan. To say it is a hidden gem is an understatement. The garlic bacon fries were outstanding and my wife loved the figgy piggy burger. Staff were excellent, friendly and responsive. It is a smaller place so I can see it being busy - Happy hour was just finishing when we arrived but there were still seats available. All in all, recommend the small detour to experience this great place.

Yes, we waited around on a Saturday passing time until they opened at 3pm. They are that good! Awesome post hike meal, but I wish they were open for lunch on Saturdays. I had the garlic fry burger bowl and the garlic aoli was perfectly rationed over the bowl. I was tempted to order one to go! I wish I didn't live so far away.

Found this place driving back from Chicago on a whim. I'm glad we did! They had interesting choices of burgers, and it was hard to make up my mind. I decided on the burger of the month - the Brat. It, along with the bacon fat garlic fries, hit the spot. We def will have to make it a regular stop any time we're in the area!

Whoa. My 17, 14, 9 year-old boys and I ate our food in probably 5 minutes. EVERYTHING was great. 2 of us tried the craft vegan soda they had too.....whoa! Service....whoa! You just need to go there! We're from out of town and I found them on Google maps..... so glad we did bc all we did was rave about this place!

Fried pickles and cheese curds were fantastic. The Hot Pants with the house giardiniera was the absolute winner with the Claw hammer next. This may be our new burger joint!

Happened into this place on a whim and couldn't be happier. Staff is very nice and attentive. Since our first time there, we have gone back three more times. Burgers are all fantastic, but the southern chicken sandwich is unbelievable! It's now the new high standard for chicken in our house. Cute little interior with limited but adequate seating. Would definitely recommend!

I ordered the chanute burger - medium well done - which consists of 15 crimini mushrooms, pepper jack cheese, bacon, blue cheese sauce, greens, tomato, onion. It was honestly one of the best burgers I have ever had in my life, so I'm rating this place 5 of 5 stars. It's worth the trip. There are other selections on the menu if you aren't into burgers - my gf had the sloppy Joe which she loved (it was a bit too sweet for my taste - but I really don't like sweet food so don't trust me on that one) Again, I highly recommend the burgers because the one I had blew me away. I wish I lived around here just to have another. I ordered my burger with a side of buffalo tots. They were really good as well. They also have plenty of beers on tap or in cans - as well wine and cocktails. Chesterton doesn't seem to have much - but this place makes it all worthwhile. Seating isn't plentiful ... so I imagine on a busy night there might be a bit of a wait. We came on a Sunday however, and got seated immediately. Again - this was honestly one of the best hamburgers I have ever had. Can't say enough good things about it.

Traveling with my husband for business. Very long car ride and we made it around 5 pm yesterday. Got a quick workout in and he told me I HAD to try this place out. He frequents the area and said it is incredible. It was sooo good. Out of Sauvignon Blanc so went for the Chardonnay. Fried Cheese Burger with tots. Hubby had the fish sandwich with fries. Couple of old fashions. Worth the splurge on calories. You only live once! A must do when in the area. The staff is super nice and the food is incredible. Listen to the hubby.

I ordered the hamburguesa, Denver burger with fries, Chanute burger with sweet potatoe tots and the fish sandwich with coleslaw along with fried pickles. Everything was delicious.

Love me some Octave! The figgy piggy burger is delicious. Every time I come here that's my go-to and it is cooked just right every time. I also love the selection of bottled sodas, especially the root beer. All the appetizers are great and I really could chow down some Buffalo fries as a side any day!

My husband placed the empty hummus platter to the side of the table too quickly. As the waitress came to bus the platter away, I swooped in and grabbed the bowl to smear my last piece of pita around the bowl to ensure not one drop of that delicious hummus was left to waste. The waitress laughed and I was completely unashamed of my greed. Speaking of the waitresses, they were friendly and attentive and gave great service. I usually like a more subdued ambiance, but they played great music and it just seemed to add to the experience in a positive way. My husband had the Chanute burger and I had the "Fish Sandwich"...best fish sandwich of my life. If only this place wasn't three hours from home. Now I have to figure out how to blacken Maui Maui...

Really phenomenal and unique burgers -- I had the figgy piggy and it was delicious. Definitely rich, which makes sense with the goat cheese, but so so good. My husband had the southern fried chicken sandwich and loved it. The fried pickles were pretty good -- although I prefer slightly more pickle than breading. The perch cakes were good and had a lot of fish in them, but weren't my favorite dish of everything we ordered. The wait staff was quick and friendly. Overall would highly recommend!

Killer tall grass fed beef burgers. My all-time fave is the figgy piggy-goat cheese with fig jam and greens on top. Don't forget to upgrade to sweet potato tots. They also serve homemade chocolate chip warm brownie dessert. Signature cocktails and craft beer

Great little place think a lot of locals which always means good food. The tots appetizer delicious ate so many was hard to eat our dinner and took the remaining home for later. Had the burger of the day and the figgy burger. Great quality of beef, all the toppings are fresh and great flavor. The topping pairings are spot on, fig jam was sweet but the goat cheese balanced it out. Will be back next time in town. If I had a detractor it would be that it is very loud with all the conversations but a very nice place.

The food and ambiance was amazing! All of us loved our food. My husband and I split the fried cheese burger and the southern fried chicken. The service was excellent and our waitress was very friendly.

The restaurant is overcrowded. And the workers are just not friendly. The food is ok. I'd recommend fiddlehead in Michigan City instead.

This place is fantastic. The burgers are thick and taste amazing. The sweet potatoes fries were just the right crispiness! We are from six states away and had a recommendation for this place. What a Gem or lucky find! Even a Wisconsin boy would be impressed with the cheese curds The burger and Cuban not only well prepared but had an inventive twist. But honestly, the great service was the icing on the cake. Leslie was the most personable, joyful and knowledgeable server we have had in a long time.

Whenever my gf lets me (she hates burgers) I'm coming here . Grass fed organic beef, weird funky options or build your own....always get the taco tots and Buffalo fry appetizers, it's small so wait times can happen but I think it's worth the wait

We stopped at the Octave Grill on our trip home from Michigan to Indiana and wow, small place but wonderful! Great service, real hometown feel and my Impossible hamburger was excellent as were the taco tots and French fries. Linda was our server and she did a great job. You sit close enough to other tables to strike up a conversation but not so close that you feel you must talk to your neighbor. My husband had the Linda salad and the blue cheese crumbles and candied nuts were the highlight on that salad. We will definitely be back as we pass by this area often. It is noisy but again, it feels like a great community restaurant where the locals hang.

The food simply was great, the deserts were incredible, and it was exactly what I needed after a long day at the beach. I have no complaints about this place.

The drink list was limited, but interesting. The figgy piggy burger was delicious. The hostess was very welcoming, though the wait staff was a bit less personable. This place is right next to the train tracks, so when a train comes by it can be really noisy--and startling if they blow their horn (which they often do). It's not intolerable, but something to be prepared for.

The welcome or lack thereof received not only on one but two visits left us puzzled. We figured the first occasion was a bad day for the greeter, so we would give it another try., alas....ame result. We didn't feel any animosity towards who we were, we just felt the not so nice greetings were the result of individuals who did not want to be doing what they were doing. Each time spent in the restaurant we never had that feeling of appreciated customers. The food was good, but great service is something we hold highly when spending our dollars, and we usually don't return when the service is subpar.

After hiking 7 miles at the Indiana National Dunes, we needed a good bite to eat. We stopped at Octave Grill in Chesterton, IN. We ordered an appetizer of fried pickles that came with ranch and chipotle sauce, one root beer and one cream soda to drink. The lad ordered a Rueben-esque , The Bom, burger with fries and cole slaw. I ordered the Hamburgesea with tots as a side. The food was delicious, the music playlist was rocking, the decor was cute, bathrooms were clean, and severs were friendly.

This is a great burger place. We went with friends, and we all enjoyed our burgers. The dessert, I remember not enjoying, but I cannot remember why. However, the tots and fries and burgers were spot on. The prices are good and the service was excellent. I do recommend their seasonal cocktails. My best friend and I really enjoyed ours. They change by the season, and we went at the tailend of winter. They were still winter themed. Excellent! I highly recommend at least coming for the burgers and the cocktails if you drink. Maybe skip dessert.

Dear Small Towns, Your patrons deserve more than the food you buy at GFS and Sysco. Why not partner up with your local purveyors and bring to the table food made with local ingredients? Take Octave Grill in small-town Chesterton, IN. I give their food quality a 10/10 because not only are they using grass-fed beef, but also they've teamed up with local businesses including Fair Oaks Farms, Kenny's Farmhouse Cheese, and Gunthrop Farms. You can taste the difference in their burgers and sandwiches, which is why I'll always recommend them to friends visiting the area. Bravo to Octave Grill for rising above burger mediocrity and bringing downtown Chesterton a special place to dine that is full of local biz love. I hope other establishments will follow suit. A MUST in Chesterton!! We picked up some burgers, tots and fries and HOLY MOLY, yall! One of the best burgers I've had in a long time. The restaurant has such a cool, cozy vibe and the servers were friendly. We had a beer while we waited for our burgers, which did not take long at all. Highly recommend trying something different on your burger! I am sure their plain jane burgers are delicious too - but with all the variety they have you'd be crazy not to try something fun! The figgy piggy was incredible - a little on the sweeter side and absolutely packed with flavor! We requested it on a pretzel bun and it was incredible. We also ordered the denver (omit the ham) and we were so satisfied! Between the two, they hit the spot. The tots were amazing - the mustard served with them, delicious! and the fries were also good. Couldn't say a bad thing about this place.

Do not judge a book by its cover. This fabulous gem in downtown Chesterton is next to the tracks and its outward appearance belies the beauty inside. The food is exceptional, and the service is friendly and professional. It does not seat more than 40 people, but if you have to wait, you will not be sorry. Drinks are unique and tasty. Burgers and entrees are creative and abundant. Sides are great. The cole slaw is sweet and fresh. Desserts are large enough to share. Frozen key lime pie is a house specialty. I cannot say enough good things about my favorite restaurant in Chesterton.

Figgy Piggy Burger, one of the best burgers I've had. With sweet potato tater tots. The perch cakes are great. The bottle root beer very good. I know of nothing else.

NOT little kid friendly. Have no high chairs so we couldn't stay. Can't say anything about how the food is.

First time here, we were seated right away, our waitress was very friendly. The atmosphere was relaxing, the decor is super cute and different. I was with a group of people and ordered hummus,taco tots and bacon fat fries for our appetizer. It was all delicious. Basic but delicious I ordered the - chicha burger $11.75 chorizo sausage link, red barns heritage white cheddar, pico de gallo, baja sauce, pretzel roll and a side of sweet potato tots. The chorizo links and pretzel bun is what sold me. Everything binds together. It's was amazing ! The honey mustard that was supposed to accommodate the tots was a no for me. But still goo

What a hidden gem Octave Grill is! The food is AMAZING! I sat at the bar to be served and the bartender was as on it! I asked about getting chicken instead of a burger with the fig jam and goat cheese, and it was no problem at all. And it was so delicious! The restaurant is small, personal, quieter side, and just what you want after a full day.I would come back here just to go to this restaurant.... Oh and don't forget the desserts, all homemade, and again delicious! 100% recommend this place for the best food.

Excellent food, service and craft beers. We were a bit worried about what was open on a Monday night, and were more than pleased at what we found at Octave Grill. Bustling with locals and a few visitors like us. Highly recommend!!

We had the hot pants burger, perch cakes and lemon lavender olive oil cake. Everything was wonderful. Crispy bacon and great onion rings on the burger. Plenty of seasoning in the perch cakes. I could have eaten three pieces of the cake. Service was great, too!

When ever we visit Indiana dunes we always stay in Chesterton, In. We always eat at Octave Grill, this time it was no longer there. It was a real bummer! The Bed and Breakfast we are staying at said it had moved. What a relief. We ordered 2 fish sandwiches, the name does not give it justice, it is fantastic, the sandwich came with fries, but I also ordered the beer Mac and cheese. Jeff had two beers and I had two teas. The waitress treated us so well, never have a bad experience. If you go to Chesterton and don't eat here you have made a great mistake.

We were in the area for the dunes and stopped by for some food after seeing the good reviews. The space was well decorated and unique. The space is a little small but we were able to all get seated but two of our group had to sit at a different table. I had the Adrian sandwich which is pulled pork with Cole slaw on top. It was good! I really enjoyed the flavors of all the food. We also tried the taco tots and bacon fat fries. I preferred the taco tots more.

We decided to stop here on our way home after landing in Chicago from a trip to California. It's the classic small town indiana restaurant with a local vibe, friendly people, and fantastic food. We ordered the pickle fries for our appetizer and they were a home run. Crispy coating over delicious fresh pickles were a perfect warmup for our entrees of a perfectly prepared Octave Basic cheeseburger and hand-cut crispy French fries. My wife had the fish sandwich (mahi mahi) with tater tots and she loved it. No doubt we will make the trip back in the future.
