Odakyu Hotel Hatsuhana

We stayed at this beautiful ryokan-inspired hotel and had a wonderful experience overall. Our room included a private onsen, and we also had access to the public onsen. As someone who loves onsens, I decided to check out the public one and was pleasantly surprised to find it completely empty—it was such a peaceful and relaxing experience. The food was absolutely delicious, and we loved wearing our robes and walking to the restaurant for our meals—it really added to the authentic ryokan atmosphere. I also tried Shine Muscat grapes for the first time and completely fell in love! I was able to book a last-minute massage as well, and they were very accommodating, which I really appreciated. I’m giving the room itself 3 stars only because we were assigned a layout with two double beds, which wasn’t our preference. Tip: There are private onsens available to reserve, but they need to be booked in advance. We didn’t realize this ahead of time, so it’s something to keep in mind when planning your stay.

Gorgeous rooms and excellent staff. Kaiseki meals were mostly top notch. Would say a couple of the sashimi were a little mealy but otherwise the food was great. The staff went out of their way to make us welcome. Location-wise it’s beautiful but not really anything walkable nearby - so it’s great for a quiet retreat but if you want to be able to walk around and shop a little then look elsewhere or be willing to drive to look around. The only real detractor is that it’s pricey. Also be aware that Japanese hotels charge room rates per person so the rates you see on their websites are multiplied by the number of people staying. Same for any meals. Check the confirmation email which has the total cost expected. This is probably less of an issue if you use a third party booking app. Overall though would stay here again at the drop of a hat. Very relaxing and pretty with great staff.

We had an amazing stay and would highly recommend this ryokan to anyone looking for a relaxing experience. The room was spacious, comfortable, and beautifully designed, with a private onsen on the balcony that made the stay even more special. The kaiseki meal was incredible, especially the steak course! All of the staff were exceptionally helpful and attentive throughout our stay. We also booked the private onsen, which was wonderful and incredibly relaxing.

Room is clean and well maintained, and with a small in room onsen bath. Excellent service, from front desk to restaurant. Hotel is quiet and comfortable. Highly recommended

Stayed here while traveling Japan on our honeymoon. Beautiful experience, everything from the location, room, people and food. We did a lot of hiking leading up to staying here so the bath and huge bed was perfect. The place is easy to get to thanks to a shuttle or bus from the station. Japanese breakfast was delicious, the sauce served with homemade tofu is one of the best things I’ve ever had.

We (two adults with our 13 years old daughter) have been there for two nights. Welcome was very friendly. A pickup from the train station to the hotel is included. We booked a premium C-level room. Plenty of space. A mixture of japanese and western style. One bedroom can be used for two tatami beds. The other bedroom had two queen beds. Plus a large bathroom, a living room and a balcony on the third floor inclusive of an onsen spa. Drinks from the fridge a included. We also got japanese slippers and kimonos. The Kaiseki dinner is in the room rate included. The dinner is served in private rooms. Overall a fantastic expirience. We truly recommend this hotel.

Last year, I stayed at this quiet upscale ryokan in Hakone. We were able to drop our luggage off early since check-in was at 3pm. During check-in, we were seated at their spacious lobby with a cup of hot tea and a lavender scented antibacterial wet towel. Nice touch! Our luxurious room was spacious with two twin beds, sitting area, separate vanity area, shower area, and a private rotenburo on our balcony. We can also view the glass cable car going down to the public hot springs. Breakfast and dinner was included in our stay and was exceptional. You had a choice of Western or Japanese meals. You also eat in your own private room. They also have complimentary beer and coffee milk as you walk towards the cable car and complimentary coffee, alcohol and afternoon desserts in the lobby. We also could book private hot bath for 45 minutes during our stay so we booked a separate hot spring bath each day. They had choices of minamo, akari, kawato and shijima rooms. I definitely recommend the Kawato room which was an open-air hot spring with an infinity pool. Breathtaking especially when it's snowing! The public baths were open from 6-10am and 3-11pm. After checking out, it was snowing pretty hard so we had to shovel the snow off our car. The staff was so nice that they held umbrellas over us while we shoveled the snow. So heartwarming! From the hot springs to the food to the hospitality, it was definitely 5 stars!

Odakyu Hotel Hatsuhana is a luxurious onsen/ryokan that was recently renovated and it showed on its amenities and price tag. We were there in Feb 2023 for 2 nights which included breakfast and 2 kaiseki dinners. The highlights were the large private open-air onsens. It was even more spectacular when it snowed on our last day. Most travelers will take the Romance Car to Hakone, we took the JR to Odawara Station and rented a car to explore Hakone. The hotel entrance/lobby oozed opulence: luxurious sofas, fire place, bottomless champagne/wine/coffee. We booked the Comfort room for JPY86,300 per night, it was actually the cheapest room here, yikes. Furnishings were new and comfy: lounge chair, HD TV, super comfy queen beds, large bathroom with separate bathing area before you hop into your own private onsen on the balcony, with a view of the majestic green mountain to boot. There are multiple public baths which we relished, but there are also 4 large private baths that you can RSVP (no additional fee) for 45 min sessions. Akari was nice but our favorite was def the Kawato private bath. It was open-air, quite large, and you are few feet away from the trees and the forest. We went there twice, the 2nd time it snowed heavily and the experience was surreal. Because it's a private bath, you can take all the photos and videos to your heart's content. There are endless supply of beers and milk, you just grab it from the mini fridges, no extra charge. There was a cable car that takes guests from their rooms to different onsen and various floors, so cool. For the meals you can choose Western or Japanese Our Japanese BF was good, but the kaiseki dinners were fantastic: wagyu beef, shark fin soup, pasta, sushi, etc. Guests dine in their own private rooms. If you are still thirsty or hungry, the lobby offers 24 hr beer/wine/champagne/coffee, also afternoon snacks and desserts. During our 3-day stay we saw everything: rain, sun and then snow at the end.
