The Barbecue Capital of Texas Is Diversifying Its Dining

"For nightly live music and cowboy cool, I head to O’Donnell’s, a casual café and pub where longtime Austin honkytonk owner Dennis O’Donnell brings weekly live music and a crowd that two-steps and soaks up Lockhart’s particular brand of country energy." - Annie Brown Verdin

Another Lockhart gem! I have only had this one visit, but know enough to know I will return. Chuck made me a fantastic French Martini while waiting for my to-go order. She was personable and attentive, everything you want in a bartender. Will bring my Austin gals to have a happy hour there sometime soon! Today, we got the baked potato, the Ben Franklin, the english tea sandwiches and The Lula. All the sandwiches were pretty fantastic…even to-go. The pesto mayo is reason enough to return, but the lunchmeats tasted fresh and the toasted bread was crispy, even with a 10 minute drive home. The baked potato was delicious and well seasoned….but certainly not the “biggest in Lockhart”, as it was named. BUT! Even in saying that, I would indeed order it again. My friend from Houston indicated this would be a draw for her return to Lockhart. She loved the tea sandwiches!! Overall, Id say, it’s worth a try!!

The Rueben was delicious! It was pretty overpriced for just chips as a side from a bag though. Cute place and love the environment.

We went on a cold day and ordered grilled cheese sandwiches and the tomato soup. My goodness flavors were bursting everywhere. The grilled cheese had different cheeses on brioche and a touch of aioli. The soup was rich with herbs and so perfect on this cold day. They had hot buttered rum for us but we choose chocolate mousse instead. I’m hooked on this place. Service is always swift and nice. The chef is very accommodating l hope he never leaves.

My first time in, and I'm sold 100% on this place. I get bored with new buildings with no heart and soul. If you like places that have walls that probably could tell volumes of stories, this is a place for you. I almost don't want to tell everybody how cool this place is in order to save a seat for myself. Before you even set foot inside the doors, you get a tingly feeling in your tummy that says, "we've been waiting for you". But do step inside, that's when you see the beauty that they've brought out in this majestic location. I started out light and had a bowl of the chicken lemon rosemary soup. I then decided to have this particular night's special, which was the off-the-beaten path for an Irish pub----spaghetti and meatballs, as dessert. Call my thinking what you will, but it was the best dessert I've had in awhile. In fact, some of the best meatballs and gravy...capeesh? Probably shouldn't have mentioned that because it isn't available most of the time. You can blame my amazing server Tee-Jay for letting me slip on that one. Anyway, my wife had the O'Donnell which I sneaked a bite of, and wow! Yeah, good. I forgot to take pics, but I will be back in about a week and update this. Plenty of beers of all styles on draught and bottles/cans. Full liquor bar with great staff to make what your palette desires. They also have live music. Check events on the website. Some great acts play here. Every downtown needs this place, but they only have it in Lockhart. So come and get ya some!

The building is old and interesting. There were 3 of us and we were greeted and sat quickly. Nothing was pushed, no specials, nothing. We ordered the Chicken Little, East Coast Club and a West Coast Club. My sandwich came out dry so I had to ask for mayo, sandwiches only come with chips as the side. Everything was good except the waitress could have been a little more attentive.

Can't say enough good things about this business. Food, service and atmosphere are all exceptional. We were surprised and enthusiastic that they had a live band the night we visited. No name for the band but it was western swing (pedal steel, upright bass and drums). They told me they play there most Wednesdays. Don't worry they are not overly loud and assure a nice ambiance even if you're not actively watching the band. My family was able to interact without the music overpowering our conversations. I plan on visiting again in the near future.

Excellent food, service, prices, and live music. We had the artichoke dip, the O’donnell cornbeef sandwich and potato soup with a Guinness. The harvest thief veggie sandwich, with broccoli and cheese soup and an Austin Beerworks Fire Eagle IPA.

Yelp
Such a little gem for Lockhart! Lots of seating, our server was great, and the food was good. The only downside is that it's a little pricey. Other than that, great spot for lunch or dinner.

Yelp
When in Lockhart eat BBQ, well not always! O'Donnell's needs to be on your go to list if you haven't already been. Great old renovated beautiful building on the square, with a great view of the courthouse. I had the Lunch choose two. Everything sounded good, but went with the Big Apple salad along with the Tony Soprano sandwich. Excellent is what comes to mind! Portions are great and the food good and fresh. Our waitress was excellent! She kept our glasses full on a HOT Texas day! You have several choices in Lockhart to have lunch, but I highly recommend O'Donnell's. Go get Full

Yelp
Right on the Lockhart square, plenty of free parking in the square. Restaurant large enough to host a party. Full bar and open kitchen. Cocktails were great but the mocktails and adding liquor were better. Great place if you don't want bbq. They were out of quite a few items when we ordered. Soups were room temp so they could have been warmer. I really like the rosemary chicken soup. Sandwich's were hearty and loaded with meat. Arugula salad was also light and zesty

Yelp
Service is wonderful. I've never entered without being greeted immediately. I've only tried their Reuben and soups so far but everything was fresh and delicious. Stopped by on St. Patty's Day and they had corned beef specials and live music. Great addition to the square.

Yelp
Quiche was served refrigerated. I'd never had cold quiche before. The chef said it was supposed to be cold. Learn something new every day! I'd appreciate them getting over their fixation with arugula.

Yelp
So happy this place is finally open! Although it will be even better with a full menu. Cause one of my favorite meals is corned beef and cabbage. This baked potato off the limited menu will do too! It was stuffed with corned beef. We also enjoyed the spinach artichoke dip as a starter. Highly recommend this new Irish Pub! Service was fantastic too.

Yelp
The service here is amazing! They are patient when you have questions and are waiting on other people to join you. There was live Irish music and dancing while you eat, which added to the overall experience. I had the Mother's Arugala Salad with half a To y Soprano. The salad paired well with the meat of the sandwich. I want to come back here.

Yelp
Vibes. The owner of Sagebrush in Austin capturing the vibe that many went to Austin to get and one of the few places that pour a proper Guinness!

Yelp
The food and service were great. We were greeted and seated immediately. Atmosphere was easy going laid back. Our server Mikayla, was awesome and ensured we had everything, and we even placed a second order for a baked potato soup which was very delicious . We had questions about the alcoholic drinks and she did not hesitate to get answers for us very quickly. We will definitely be returning and we do recommend.

Yelp
Wonderful staff, ambiance, menu and beer! Fantastic location for a comfortable lunch/dinner and within walking distance from some amazing stores. Looking forward to future visits and live bands!

Yelp
The server was so fun. Great food and value. We got the O'Donnell's sandwich, the Ben Franklin sandwich, and the lentil soup. Will definitely return

Yelp
Great Service and great food. Almost shed a tear when I found out they had Guinness on draft. Plus the bartender Chris was awesome!!

Yelp
The inside is much larger than I would have thought. Very nice bar and lounge area. Had the corned beef sandwich and was pretty good. Also recommend the cheddar broccoli soup. They make with fresh cut broccoli! Would come back.

Yelp
I truly do love this little area that they have as a restaurant me and my girlfriend and my grandparents went there. The grilled cheese was pretty good, but the pasta wasn't that good service was amazing, but to be honest the food there is not that good

Kiera S.

Yelp
TJ was our server and he was amazing. We went in and didn't realize they were closing soon! We had great food and great service!
