The Barbecue Capital of Texas Is Diversifying Its Dining

"For nightly live music and cowboy cool, I head to O’Donnell’s, a casual café and pub where longtime Austin honkytonk owner Dennis O’Donnell brings weekly live music and a crowd that two-steps and soaks up Lockhart’s particular brand of country energy." - Annie Brown Verdin

My first time in, and I'm sold 100% on this place. I get bored with new buildings with no heart and soul. If you like places that have walls that probably could tell volumes of stories, this is a place for you. I almost don't want to tell everybody how cool this place is in order to save a seat for myself. Before you even set foot inside the doors, you get a tingly feeling in your tummy that says, "we've been waiting for you". But do step inside, that's when you see the beauty that they've brought out in this majestic location. I started out light and had a bowl of the chicken lemon rosemary soup. I then decided to have this particular night's special, which was the off-the-beaten path for an Irish pub----spaghetti and meatballs, as dessert. Call my thinking what you will, but it was the best dessert I've had in awhile. In fact, some of the best meatballs and gravy...capeesh? Probably shouldn't have mentioned that because it isn't available most of the time. You can blame my amazing server Tee-Jay for letting me slip on that one. Anyway, my wife had the O'Donnell which I sneaked a bite of, and wow! Yeah, good. I forgot to take pics, but I will be back in about a week and update this. Plenty of beers of all styles on draught and bottles/cans. Full liquor bar with great staff to make what your palette desires. They also have live music. Check events on the website. Some great acts play here. Every downtown needs this place, but they only have it in Lockhart. So come and get ya some!

Came here on a Saturday for lunch and was incredibly happy with my meal. Love the old Irish pub atmosphere and the open concept kitchen. The homestyle vibes of this place are strong with the photo and story of the family origins on the back of the menu to the genuine kindness of the staff. I ordered the chicken little and it was absolutely delicious. Simple menu with an elevated level of flavor I can appreciate. I will definitely be back!

First visit, First of all we fought the flies in this restaurant. Not to cool. I ordered Grilled cheese sandwich and The Tomato Basil soup. The sandwich nothing to write home about. The bread was not toasted enough the kitchen was not busy. The cheese is good. Potato Chips are a NO No how about some fresh Wedge fries. Now your cooking. As for the soup I was not informed by the waitress or the Menu that I had a choice of a cup or a bowl of soup. Not good, but ok service. The soup does have Great flavor that I recommend. The soup is not creamy but on the denser side with nice texture. Overall we will be back to try some other sandwich.

Our waitress, Ashley, was great! She was friendly and attentive, and makes a delicious pumpkin pie.

We had half sandwich/soup combo which was good. Our waitress was amazing. The downside: we spent close to 100 dollars in food & drinks for just the two of us. They were getting ready to have live entertainment - they were setting up as we walked in. We had just ordered dessert as they were getting ready to play. This woman walks over & tells us we are welcome to listen to a couple of songs but if we decide to stay, she will need ten dollars each… Of course, we left - we had just spent a boat load of money at their restaurant & didn’t even know they would have live music. It just felt wrong…

One of the employees was very nice. She gave us ice cold water when we were stuck out fixing our truck. We decided to eat lunch since we were already there, and the food was amazing! Would recommend to everyone I know!

Flavor of the food was great. Only wish they had more options of hot sandwiches and different meats.
