we were a party of three, hangry for brunch, and the wait felt endless (70 minutes), even with a spot on yelp's waitlist. but once inside (1:48 pm on a stat monday), it was clear why so many were willing to hold out for a table. the place had this playful charm and an airy, spacious layout that instantly made us feel like we'd stumbled onto a little weekend retreat.
we lucked out with heather as our server; she had the kind of warm energy that made us feel like regulars right from the start. she was attentive and friendly without missing a beat. mike, the manager, was making his rounds too, checking in with every table and adding to that welcoming, service focused vibe. it felt like everyone here was invested in making sure we had a great time.
the atmosphere had a lively warmth to it. an open kitchen buzzed with energy as chefs moved in sync behind the counter, adding a bit of excitement to the space. there's a half cracked egg hanging lamp, and a unique focal structure, a big, glowing yellow orb suspended in a white arch, that cast a soft, whimsical glow over the room. it was quirky and fun, making the space feel cozy in an unexpectedly delightful way. that playful, egg themed design and pops of yellow added to the café's lighthearted, inviting vibe.
the menu had its own sense of humour, with names like 'do not even go there,' 'gold digga,' and 'cluck norris'. and the food? pure brunch bliss. my partner went for the 'threesome,' a classic spread of fluffy pancakes drizzled with maple syrup, hardwood smoked bacon, and two free run eggs, over easy.
another in our group ordered the 'moroccan water fowl,' a beautifully plated dish of smoked ras el hanout spiced duck breast with a porcini mushroom truffle ragu and a sprinkle of pomegranate, all served on a buttery croissant with eggs benny. it looked like brunch elevated to an art form.
i went for a breakfast bowl that felt like a big, comforting hug: breakfast poutine with confit de canard. it came loaded with spiced potatoes, fresh greens, and tender sous vide duck, topped with perfectly soft poached eggs. each bite was satisfying, with layers of rich, comforting flavours that felt like the ultimate brunch indulgence.
it's the kind of spot where you want to linger (90 minute max), sipping coffee and soaking in the cozy ambiance. a true brunch escape that makes you forget the wait and just enjoy the moment.
