OLAR has been one of my favorite spots in Baltimore for years. It is very spacious for a Baltimore Canton/Brewer hill area converted townhome restaurant. I think they converted more than one townhome, or it was an end of block apartment building that they converted. Regardless, it is much larger on the inside than it looks from the outside.
They have a full bar with wonderful and unique craft cocktails. I highly recommend you try something new every time you go.
The food is delicious and well prepared. On our most recent trip, we had the fig Crostini, which was delicious albeit a bit messy. We also had the portobello mushroom cap, which, unfortunately, was not as well balanced. It was not poorly prepared, it just felt a little bland and flat for us. We also tried the petite fillet, which was a small portion size as expected and went well with our small plates approach to dinner. Finally, we tried the Maryland crabcakes. These were well seasoned and decently prepared, but personally, I like to have more crab meat and less filler, even if it means a smaller crabcake. I would suggest getting rid of most of the filler, and simply serving the same amount of crab meat in a smaller crabcake size.
Last night they had a burlesque show in the upstairs bar area, which was very enjoyable, and a unique experience. Not sure how often they have those types of events, but I would absolutely go back for another live entertainment event there.
