This was the first time I felt bamboozled and betrayed by Yelp. The high ratings and number of reviews excited us, but the food was extremely underwhelming. We do not recommend this restaurant for the avid sushi lover. If you are just learning and building your palate for sushi or aren't looking for authentic sushi, maybe this place would be a good stepping stone.
The host and waitress were very nice and hospitable- you can tell the customer service here is genuine. The waitress mentioned there was happy hour, and we were eager to try something new! Thank goodness the sushi rolls we ordered ("Slammin' Salmon" and "Fire in the Sky") were priced lower for Happy Hour, because otherwise, we would have been even more upset. Truly, that $1.50 to $2 difference really helped buffer our frustration.
The sushi quality was comparable to what you'd find at a grocery store. There was more rice than fish, and the flavor was nonexistent. We were looking forward to trying two more rolls from the regular menu, but after our first order came out, we quickly changed our minds. Other tables also received rolls similar to ours- just rice with a sliver of fish.
We also ordered the gyoza and house salad. The gyoza wrapping, pork filling, and dipping sauce were bland. The house salad was okay--the vegetables looked and tasted fresh, and it was a nice touch to add cherry tomatoes and cucumbers, but the sesame ginger dressing didn't really bring everything together.
Overall, I would NOT recommend this restaurant, unless you're looking for a more Western approach to sushi.
