This place is a must when you’re in South Lake. Food is incredible, staff is so friendly and welcoming. You can even check wait times online in real time and if it’s busy, get on the waiting list. We had a great time! Thank you!

We were staying in South Lake Tahoe for the week and visited Off the Hook for dinner Friday night. Place was jamin when we arrived around 7:00p which is always a good sign. Wait was :30min but they offered some drinks while we hung out. Only took :20min to be seated. I appreciate that they were quicker than communicated. Chose this place because it is allergy friendly, catering to gluten free, dairy free, nut and other allergies. They have a tailored menu to GF with several options. We went all in on the sushi and it was delicious. They even brought Tamari sauce out per our request. Sat at the bar and the sushi chef was on it. Quick service and very polite. Recommend this place

My partner and I showed up right at the opening and there were a few tables lined up via reservations on Sunday night. The teapot is impossible not to spill and I encourage the management to replace them if possible. That aside, my partner had a nut allergy so with the exception at the end of the night, we tried to avoid the multiple dishes that probably make this sushi unique to the other spots in South Tahoe. Altogether we had The Joker, Funky Roll Medina, and Bodhi rolls in our first round of eating. These rolls had 8 maki per order and were no frills. At risk of angering the order, I thought they were kinda samish. My partner thought that Funky Roll Medina's spicy sauce was surprisingly vinegary but they drink cholula daily. Still, vegans should rejoice as the Bodhi is a successful roll that allows you to eat veggies and tofu while looking relatively normal. The menu really shined when I got one more roll afterwards. The High Roller shows how the Macadamia nuts support the dish in both texture and flavor. It's a shame we couldn't order more of these types (of which there are 10 different rolls that use macadamia) but I'll refrain from kissing my partner for a few hours the next time I'm here.

Overall this restaurant is very good. However, for a sushi-themed restaurant, I think based on my experience of having dinner this time, Their rice is cooked a little hard, So it's quite a pity! I can only give it four stars!

Google
Food, delicious, service excellent, ambience, fun, can't go wrong choosing Off The Hook to go to sushi. Absolutely love this place. Has fresh yummy fish. My favorite roll is the sugar mama and the royal flush. But honestly anything you order you can't go wrong. Highly recommend. Checking it out anytime you're in Tahoe

Google
Sushi was great, very fresh. Maybe could have had more variety? A lot of the rolls had their signature eel sauce and/or macadamia nuts in them. That is the only reason for giving the food 4 stars because the rolls I had were delicious. Sushi chefs were attentive, friendly, and so was the staff. Good atmosphere.

Went for Happy Hour and have to say that the shrimp dish is out of this world. Our fine waitress said that's why people come to Off the Hook. CA roll was so-so, Gyoza, too.

There was a bit of a wait (30 minutes) for a table for 7 of us - we didn't mind terribly waiting, but it would have been nicer if the Yelp waitlist function had worked properly. But we finally were seated at a table outside. We'd already looked at the menu and had a good idea of what we wanted to order. Everyone was very pleased with what they ordered. I was happy that there were a couple of veggie rolls that had tofu in them, and one that was vegan without the sauce and was probably one of the best "sushi" rolls I've ever eaten in my life. It was called the Earthworm (contains organic baked tofu, basil, garlic, cucumber & broccoli topped with avocado, macadamia nuts and dynamite sauce) and the combination of the basil and garlic was AMAZING. The Bhodi (organic baked tofu, spinach, garlic and shiitake mushroom) was also very good. Service was excellent and very helpful. They took our order efficiently but we didn't feel rushed, and it wasn't a terribly long wait to get the food. Everything looked gorgeous and the consensus seemed to be that everything was delicious. They were unfortunately out of the lava cake that several people in our group wanted to split, but they got to split the tempura cheesecake, and they really enjoyed that as well. We will likely come back next year when we're back for our yearly vacation!

Yelp
Literal BEST sushi around. Fresh, and delicious. The service was excellent, and it's a great vibe.

Yelp
This was our first time here but we can't wait to come back. The food was super. We sat at the sushi bar and Juan made us amazing rolls!! We can't wait to come back and try more amazing things. The place makes you feel so welcomed and the staff was amazing!!

Kimberly C.

Yelp
Quality of sushi is pretty good, but the price for the size of the sushi makes this experience different. I came here on 12/23 in time for the happy hour timeframe, and the restaurant said that it was a holiday so there was no happy hour. Okay, no big deal. We ordered 2 rolls, and the total cost (after tax and tip) was $20. And this was an appetizer-like meal. I recommend getting the more complicated rolls as those ones are bigger. The simpler rolls are very very small yet still $18. Overall, I didn't enjoy my experience here, but hopefully others get to enjoy happy hour here!

Yelp
From the moment we walked into Off the Hook Sushi, we were treated like family. Our host, Rob, welcomed us with warmth and genuine hospitality, making us feel right at home. We opted to sit at the bar, and it turned out to be one of the best decisions we could have made! Chef Brian truly stole the show! He was not just a chef; he was an artist in the kitchen. We explored the menu, but when we mentioned our preferences for a custom roll, Brian took our ideas and transformed them into a delicious masterpiece. We enjoyed it so much that we ended up ordering it multiple times! Each bite was a delightful surprise, and it was clear that he truly cares about his craft. The atmosphere of the restaurant is equally inviting. With its quaint and relaxing vibe, it provided the perfect backdrop for our meal. The combination of excellent service, talented chefs, and a beautiful setting made our dining experience unforgettable. If you're looking for a sushi restaurant that excels in every aspect, look no further than Off the Hook Sushi. We can't wait to return for another amazing meal!

Yelp
LOVE THIS PLACE!!!! The sushi is fresh and delicious. Have been coming here for 19 years. The staff are friendly and you can't beat Happy Hour.

Ian M.

Yelp
This is the place! The entrance to the restaurant boasts two walls of local Best of awards and it's for a reason, not only is the service fantastic, but the food and flavor profiles are amongst the best you can find from a sushi place! We've never been disappointed with anything we've eaten here. Tonight's dinner I tried their Shrimp Dynamite as a shared app. There are many restaurants that make a version of this however, this was the best I've ever had. Anywhere. We also split a Sugar Mama roll, a Crunch Granola roll and a Royal Flush roll. All were delightful, delectable and scrumptious! I love that they offer fresh grated wasabi here. It's an $2 up charge, but very worth it!

Ashley W.

Yelp
Top notch! They're so many different rolls for everyone. The creativity is so unique the funky role Medina and the gambler is our favorite.

Caitlin S.

Yelp
This was my first time here! Our server Chloe was awesome and attentive, and our food came out fast even on a busy night. The food was awesome and we will definitely be coming back. Kudos to the sushi chefs for serving up some great fish. I think our chefs name was Jay Z?

Nancy L.

Yelp
I got the arty party and it was very good, 4/5, and the earthworm, 2.5/5. The prices were slightly high for an okay-sushi spot. My partner didn't like his rolls, but enjoyed the gyoza.

Nathan B.

Yelp
Restaurant was small but had a nice set up. I'm still dabbling into sushi and prefer cooked items. I explained this to the waitress and asked to point me to the cooked items on the menu. The Stop Drop and Roll was under the list I was pointed to, so I ordered that. Upon receiving my food, I noticed the salmon in it was still raw. Also, the roll had a lot of cream cheese. Too much for my liking. The gyoza was nice and crispy, but the sauce that accompanied it was bland.

Matthew W.

Yelp
I have been dining at Off The Hook for years, and I have always had an excellent experience. The food is amazing, the happy hour menu is a great value, and the servers, owner, and cooks are all wonderful people. I love this restaurant!!!

Marissa P.

Yelp
Sat at the sushi bar last night and the sushi chef, Zero, took amazing care of us! My favorite roll on the menu is the fire in the sky (as pictured). 10/10 recommend! They really know how to treat all of their guests like royalty here! Thanks!

Yelp
Service is terrible. Bad attitude for asking a question about the menu, or if an order was coming out. Just a general nasty vibe with the servers.

Inverleith F.

Yelp
Thank you Yelpers for your reviews here. First time here and won't be the last. Parking can be tight because of the shared parking lot with the whisky bar and Mexican restaurant down the strip. We were seated right away and needed some time to look at the extensive rolls menu. We landed on the coconut prawns, the gambler, the Royal flush, house salad and gyoza. The prawn salad was excellent. Crunchy shrimp topped with fried garlic over mixed greens. The house salad was flat and had some bad leaves of greens. A pass on this next time. Loved both of the rolls. We have never had basil in sushi. Different. Gyozas were okay. Overall, service was great and it's a nice casual place that looks to be mostly locals. I'd be happy to come back to try other rolls because there are plenty. Support your local businesses!

Amy T.

Yelp
Best sushi in town! Amazing vegan selection too!! Friendly staff and owners with a laid back vibe:)

Hoa An V.

Yelp
The salmon fillet was good. They have a variety of roll options to choose from. The rolls range around $15-$18 per roll which comes pretty fast. We went on a Saturday and they have enough room for a table of 10. The rolls are a bit thinner and smaller than what we normally get at other sushi restaurants.

Essam S.

Yelp
Starting with service it was amazing as we went their family of 5 we got one of our best sushi experiences I consider this place best sushi in town

Alexandra A.

Yelp
Service was excellent! Food was a complete rip off. Cheap sushi with tons of rice and ribs had little to no meat in a huge bed of lettuce. I would definitely not recommend unless you want to feel hugely disappointed. Staff were so friendly what a shame.

Grace F.

Yelp
Service was just the right amount of attentiveness, food was delicious, prices reasonable.

Marie D.

Yelp
This restaurant is very popular, the place was packed when we arrived. Luckily, we had put our name down on the waitlist and even though we were late for our reservation, they were able to seat us quickly. The staff was friendly and courteous. The sushi was not to my liking. I'm an adventurous eater but the macadamia nuts in the Hula Girl gave it an odd flavor, and the sauces in the Crunchy Granola and Funky Roll Medina were not well paired with the other ingredients in the rolls. Sugar Mama was ok. We also found the Sunomono salad watered down, which is a shame, otherwise it might have been very nice. The sushi here didn't work out for me. But obviously, many other people like it!

Al B.

Yelp
Uniqueness: Huge quantity rolls at a surprisingly cheap price even though we're in Tahoe! Wait Time: [x][x][x][x][x] Food Quality: [x][x][x][x][x] Service: [x][x][x][x][x] Setting: [x][x][x][x][ ] Cost: [x][x][x][x][x] Recommendation? Stick with the rolls here as the plates were alright. Lake Tahoe is a tourist hub so I was expecting a sushi spot located here must be a bit more pricier than usual but when I dined at Off the Hook Sushi, the prices were amazingly low for terrific quality! It almost felt like I was eating a steal to the rolls that I ordered here. Customer service was kind and friendly and I didn't have any problem barely waiting (since I came near the opening hours at dinner). Setting inside is a little small but they do have seating outside if you want to enjoy the outdoors while eating sushi as well. All the rolls that I ordered were plentiful and priced around ~13 dollars, which I just could not believe, and were all delectable with all sorts of salmon, tuna, and other fish. The chicken plate on the other hand was a bit of a miss as it was just rice, chicken, and mixed salad that seemed a bit off compared to a typical bento box. So in general when coming here, stick with just the rolls and you will be fine. If I'm ever back in Tahoe and craving sushi once more, I'll definitely be coming back to Off the Hook Sushi. Please give this place a try/visit and you won't be disappointed!

Matthew W.

Yelp
This is easily my favorite sushi spot in all of Tahoe. The food is excellent, the prices are super reasonable, and the staff is incredibly friendly and attentive. Try to the garlic albacore nigiri, it's fantastic.

Beau E.

Yelp
Food was amazing, the fish was very fresh and there was a great variety of options on the menu. Service was great as well, we sat at the bar and the chef heard us saying we liked hamachi with ponzu so he let us each try one for free! The banana tempura dessert was great as well. The decorations of the restaurant are really nice and it is very Japanese. Cant recommend this spot more!

Julie E.

Yelp
Great service and amazing food. Made our New Year's Eve memorable! We always try to visit when we are in town.

Del S.

Yelp
We've been coming here for around almost as long as they've been open. At least once every year (which we lived closer) Everything is freshly prepared, delicious and of course we have our must-haves: shrimp dynamite, fire in the sky roll, and sugar mama.. everything else we've tried is amazing too but we always order so much food because it's amazing. They get extremely busy.. and they're not open every day, so make sure you plan ahead otherwise you'll be waiting in line

Kao Sin Chan S.

Yelp
Came to try out this place due to the high reviews. Ordered 3 rolls and the hamachi Kama. Rolls were okay. Most rolls had macadamia nuts, was also on the sweet side with like a teriyaki or unagi sauce. Hamachi Kama, I've always had grilled. Theirs deep fried. It threw me off when it came out on the plated fried. I don't think I would come back here.

Ekaterina D.

Yelp
All the sushi rolls we tried were unique and delicious! Service was also wonderful. We will definitely be going back.

Michael D.

Yelp
Ok. Went out to SLT with my buddies and we wanted some sushi. Thought we'll how good can it be. This is not the Bay Area, wrong. Loved the fish and the rolls. I cannot remember all the rolls we ordered but the Fire and a Roll Called Wanda both were excellent. Definitely a recommendation. Went there on a Friday in August utilizing the waitlist function on Yelp to put your name in for a table. So if you are looking for consistently good sushi in SLT this is your spot.

Ash G.

Yelp
The best in Tahoe. Great food, great service, great ambiance. You can tell this family loves what they do. They make you feel so welcome and then the specials are just wow!

Diana P.

Yelp
**Rating: 1.5/5 stars** This was the first time I felt bamboozled and betrayed by Yelp. The high ratings and number of reviews excited us, but the food was extremely underwhelming. We do not recommend this restaurant for the avid sushi lover. If you are just learning and building your palate for sushi or aren't looking for authentic sushi, maybe this place would be a good stepping stone. The host and waitress were very nice and hospitable- you can tell the customer service here is genuine. The waitress mentioned there was happy hour, and we were eager to try something new! Thank goodness the sushi rolls we ordered ("Slammin' Salmon" and "Fire in the Sky") were priced lower for Happy Hour, because otherwise, we would have been even more upset. Truly, that $1.50 to $2 difference really helped buffer our frustration. The sushi quality was comparable to what you'd find at a grocery store. There was more rice than fish, and the flavor was nonexistent. We were looking forward to trying two more rolls from the regular menu, but after our first order came out, we quickly changed our minds. Other tables also received rolls similar to ours- just rice with a sliver of fish. We also ordered the gyoza and house salad. The gyoza wrapping, pork filling, and dipping sauce were bland. The house salad was okay--the vegetables looked and tasted fresh, and it was a nice touch to add cherry tomatoes and cucumbers, but the sesame ginger dressing didn't really bring everything together. Overall, I would NOT recommend this restaurant, unless you're looking for a more Western approach to sushi.

Samantha W.

Yelp
We had dinner at Off the Hook this past weekend - the restaurant was pretty full but we didn't have to wait long since it was on the later side of dinner (7-8 pm) and during Tahoes off season (no need for reservation). The vibe was nice and upbeat. We ordered 4 rolls between 2 ppl: 1. Funky roll Medina (3.5/5) - a little spicy with interesting flavors but couldn't really taste the fish 2. Dragon roll (4/5) - very flavorful and the shrimp was fried nicely! 3. High roller (5/5) - our fave roll! We really liked the scallops with the macadamia nut crunch 4. Rainbow roll (4/5) - pretty standard rainbow but the rice was too much Overall, the sauces of the rolls overwhelmed the fish. The rolls are also bigger than normally expected in the city but there's also a lot of filler rice. You'll definitely feel full from the meal. Service was super attentive and hosts were lovely. It was a decent place for rolls but I might look elsewhere if I'm looking to taste more of the fish quality.

Sora E.

Yelp
White people sushi, deep fried sushi drenched in so much sauce you cant taste anything.

David R.

Yelp
I really enjoy this place and visit it as least once every time I find myself in South Lake Tahoe. Friendly service, good ambiance, and great food. They are the only sushi restaurant I have ever been to that features rolls containing macadamia nuts. Try their "Hula Girl" roll, it is one of my favorites.

Richard K.

Yelp
Service is terrible. I come to Tahoe 3-4 times per year and I used to make it a point to always get food here - either to go or dine in. No longer will I be coming here. Through the years the service has gone to pure garbage. Sushi chefs are cool, but the attitudes from the servers, is horrible. Message to servers: if you don't want to be there don't. You don't need to side eye, or give attitude because someone asks a question or tries to order online. You may not care but the owner, and management might.

Andy M.

Yelp
We ordered online for pickup and the system they use works well. Trust them and wait for the sms to say it's ready in 10 minutes. Food was good for Tahoe sushi

Heather L.

Yelp
Arrived right when the restaurant opened at 4:30 on a Friday in August. Several other people were in line. We sat at the sushi bar and were served by Juan. He was very friendly and provided a few recommendations of his favorites. We started with yellowtail belly and garlic albacore nigiri. Very fresh and flavorful. We then had two rolls, the Red Dragon, and one of the special rolls, the Last Samurai. Both were delicious especially the Last Samurai with the very thinly sliced lemon. Finished with scallop nigiri which was quite large in size and fresh. We will definitely return.

Lo B.

Yelp
For vegans/plant-based health eaters, you can definitely get some fresh rolls! Greenhouse, Garden Gnome, and Arty Party are super fresh and were rolled compactly. You can request gluten-free soy sauce too. My fav was the garden gnome: the shiitake mushrooms made the entree really come together. The arty party roll was larger than expected but you unfortunately only get 6 rolls rather than 8. I added my own coconut amino teriyaki sauce to the rolls at the end of the meal, but they tasted great on their own with just soy sauce. Was about $8 per roll; reasonably priced overall. Take-out wait time is accurate/quick when outside of peak hours with attentive front desk worker(s). Can definitely tell this food is handmade, local, and light with a well-balanced earthiness. Would dine again and highly recommend for a wholesome dine-in or take out experience :)

Orkid S.

Yelp
We were shock to see huge plate of fishes. Great place. We went there many years ago and I forgotten about this hidden gem. Good service. Would go again. Best to reserve seats through using yelp app.

G. l.

Yelp
This is my first time to try this restaurant, nothing special , the wait time was not worth it even though we did wait-list on Yelp. The food was not that great very cold. Not highly recommend. Be careful you have to pay more than 9.00 tax. Server understaff, also they pass you to another server that cause delay in people's time. Roberto is only good busser here. not a good ambience ,in addition, the guy on the Hawaii shirt does not acknowledge us either, me and my family felt disappointed.

Nicole L.

Yelp
Always a favorite, especially because I have a gluten allergy and they have a great menu for that that actually has good and special rolls. The others Sushi restaurants in town think just because you can't eat gluten you are also boring

Megan H.

Yelp
Love this place for some high quality sushi. Always try to find time to stop here whenever we are in town.

Joseph C.

Yelp
The experience was good. The servers are great but understaffed. But the cleanliness of the establishment is disgusting. From hair and dirt on the soy sauce containers. To hair and dirt on the floor and tables. I wouldn't recommend. For the food. It was 3/10 on sushi. It's cheap but definitely not worth it.

KQ L.

Yelp
The greeter/server was friendly and welcoming. The hospitality fell off a cliff after that. My sushi chef, a bilingual white guy with a nose ring could not have been more aloof. The sushi was okay.

Dave M.

Yelp
Spent a week in Tahoe on vacation with the family. Ordered several different rolls (to go), but quality was meh. Kind of bland...not a lot of flavor, but not terrible. Service was very good.

Daphne D.

Yelp
Easily the best sushi in town. Simple, no frills rolls with quality ingredients and great service. Happy hour is to die for. I've been a dedicated customer for 15 years and will be back many many more times!

Kailaya F.

Yelp
This is my all time favorite sushi restaurant. And I've been to so many I lost count! The staff is amazing and welcoming. It's cozy, the food is fantastic. The only problem is they're not open more! But that's what brings the quality. Pedro is the best server you could ask for and JP is the greatest sushi chef I've encountered! You won't be disappointed.

Diane T.

Yelp
We were there for dinner. Staff at our hotel highly recommended this sushi restaurant. Service was ok. The food was fresh. But the portion was just average. We ordered the sushi roll "Fire in the sky" which was recommended by the hotel staff and other viewers. The roll was small. I meant literally smaller than other sushi rolls. Overall, the atmosphere was great!

Ali S.

Yelp
Amazing service and sushi Great relaxing atmosphere, super chill and casual Local ownership
