The Best Walking Tours in Bordeaux (Updated 2025)

"The official tourism office runs a handful of tours, with a guided walking tour that makes a great two-hour primer led by an expert local who can help you get off the tourist trail and illuminate the city’s past. They also run a half-day winery tour that stops at either one or two wineries (depending on the day) to teach the importance of wine to the region and culture, explain the winemaking process, and provide a few samples; tours start at 15 EUR and are an affordable, fun introduction to Bordeaux’s vineyards." - Matthew Kepnes

This is where you buy your tickets for the 'hop-on-hop-off' bus ride. The gift shop here is small but has a number of prints and cards that I hadn't seen anywhere else.

Wanted an inexpensive way to visit St. Émilion and weren't sure of the options as we had no rental. The person on the info desk quickly told us which bus to get and produced a timetable/pick-up point, a map of the town and annotated some instructions. He then quizzed us to make sure we were happy with the instructions. Can't do better than that!

We stopped in to get info, and they could not be more helpful! We went on the recommended wine tour in the countryside! The tour stopped at a beautiful little town before heading out to the winery. It was an awesome day!

The Tourism Office of Bordeaux is found on Cr du 30 Juillet in the city centre. There are helpful staff on hand to help with area sightseeing questions and to book wine tours and other activities around the city. You will also find brochures and information for chateaus, vineyards and sightseeing you can do around the city. There is also a pretty decent merchandise section as well if you are looking for a souvenir or two while visiting the office of Tourism.

Extremely helpful and friendly staff. We saw a lot of them as we had problems with the new 96-hour Bordeaux Pass in some venues, so we had to come back a couple of times. They did everything they could to help us sort problems and make sure we got the most out of the pass, which was was brilliant value for money. Thanks from Helen and Tim.

Friendly staff helping you with questions around your stay in Bordeaux.. I recommend the city pass for several days. All transportation is included and the wine and lumiere museums alone are worth it. Great bargain. Lots more included, so the value is fantastic.

We had such a wonderful experience at this tourism office thanks to Miss Gladys, she helped us to make a reservation for a wine tour at a lovely Chateau for that same day. The best part was her willingness to help and good mood. Thank you Gladys!!!

We were part of “the best tour” to visit 3 vineyards and the whole experience was great. You get the bus and just relax/enjoy all the way without have to think about travel details. On each château we got a local guide to explain about the château and their wine, making the experience even more interesting. We also had tasting of 3 wines in each place and a delicious lunch. We’ve visited: Château La Tour Blanche (lovely place, Sophie, the local guide was very knowledgeable and friendly. They have the best dessert wine we’ve tasted so far) Château Réaut (we had a lovely lunch viewing the field) Château Champion (the owner Veronique, was very friendly and received us to explain about the château and the whole process of their production. Our degustation was in a lovely old room, making the whole experience even more especial. My only point to improve the tour is for your guide don’t mix up French and English while explaining. We sure understood what she was trying to explain but the experience would be more pleasant if the she does as the other guides: firstly speaking in one language and later in another, despite that, we loved and sure will be back for more excursions. Highly recommend ;)

If you are in Bordeaux and need information on what to see, where to go, when, how, what tours, etc... head to the Office de Tourisme. This is where you will find most of the information you need. There is a special section for wine tours as well. They are open every day, and the staff is well trained to help you (they speak several foreign languages). Even for people like me (who live in Bordeaux), it's great to stop in and see what is going on in the city every month. The Office du Tourisme sells tickets to various tours! Have fun exploring the city!!
