Cose to Perkins Cove, this museum is a hidden gem. You might be thinking that this place would be good for something to do on a rainy day (and it is), but don't skip a beautiful day. The view from the sculpture garden is beautiful! The museum is staffed with lovely docents, there's a small gift shop, and we really enjoyed the new exhibit on display. We're looking forward to returning on our vacation next summer.

This was the highlight of our impromptu trip to Maine. The facility is impressive, and the exhibits were provocative, beautiful, and inspiring. The sculpture garden and grounds are unparalleled, surprising, and stunning. The “Where the Real Lies” from the Spaghetti Western Collection is not to be missed. It is one of the most groundbreaking shows we have seen in decades. Seeing this many incredible contemporary artists in one gallery at a time was an extreme treat. We arrived at the museum on a foggy day in June and were astonished by its setting on a rocky inlet on the Atlantic Ocean. We could have, or rather, we did, stayed for hours taking photographs. We came back the next day to admire the plantings, the sculptures, and the site. Maine is exceptionally lucky to have an institution as incredible as the Ogunquit Museum of American Art.

Google
The first Friday of every month, the Ogunquit Museum of American Art has free entry from 5-8pm, and they have a brand new exhibit!!! Gisela McDaniel shares the pride and history of Guam 🇬🇺 and her people, the CHanora, who are still considered U.S. Citizens, but unable to vote in federal elections. She also elevates the power of womanhood and features trans friends. The exhibit is maybe an hour’s drive outside of Boston, through roads of lush green 🌳(soon-to-be red, yellow, and orange 🍁 ) and all along the rocky coast 🌊.

Google
Without a doubt one the best places to visit in Ogunquit. The exhibition space and art was limited but what we saw still packed a punch. The staff were so friendly and offered background on Henry Strater which we really appreciated...and the outdoors...the grounds...pure paradise 🤩😍🤩

Mary M.

Google
The Gisela McDaniel exhibit here is powerful! And the emerging LA artists on view are so impressive. This small museum is such a treasure.

Google
This place is beautifully situated and the exhibit we saw was well curated. The grounds alone are worth a visit with sculptures and lovely plantings. Extraordinary views.

Google
Beautiful museum! Great galleries and gorgeous grounds with a fantastic flower and Statue garden. Definitely worth the visit

Google
The museum has 5 galleries, which was the perfect manageable size for my art adventure, but the real showstopper is the sculpture garden in the back! What an incredible view of the ocean and boats coming out of Perkin's Cove. There are some chairs scattered around to relax and take in the scenery and even access to a small rocky beach. I'll definitely be coming here again on my next visit!

Yelp
Recent visit for the Flower Sculpting Show. They pair paintings with floral sculptures . I had never been. Admission was 15.00 and included a ballot to vote for our favorite. It was honestly hard to pick. There is lots of room in each room to really study the art despite the amount of people there. The view of the ocean as you walk in is its own beautiful painting. Outside they have beautiful gardens as well as the ocean view which had a nice breeze while we were there. There is a gift shop that had a nice sample of beautiful items. Plenty of parking with a complimentary post card. Saw kids also enjoying the art too . Plenty outside to see as well.

Yelp
Beautiful museum with great collections and exhibits, breathtaking views, garden and sculptures. It's small and gorgeous. Last year was my first time here and I loved it. This year I went back with my children -- it's not huge and overwhelming and kids absolutely loved it. Ladies that work here were so kind and thoughtful to my kids -- they really help nurture young artists' minds. They even gave us little goodie bags with various arts supplies that my children loved. Wonderful little gem! Can't wait to return!

Yelp
Beautiful architecture and setting to view rotating exhibits. Can roam the grounds anytime the museum is open.

Yelp
Beautiful, small museum in a captivating setting on the ocean. Museum staff were friendly and informative. We weren't fans of the art exhibited on this particular day, but the sculpture garden was wonderful and we enjoyed strolling the grounds. The exhibits do change a couple of times a year so we might return to see another artist's work. It was worth a visit on a sunny June day on the Maine coast.

Yelp
Lovely introduction of docent on the way in. A bit more questions may help individual entrants.

Yelp
This lovely little museum should be on every visitor's list of things to do in Ogunquit, Maine. Features mostly local artists and a few who have some tie to the area. I was surprised to see works by a man I'd thought of as a Western New York artist, Charles Burchfield. Out the back door of OMAA you will find marvelous views of the ocean, a great place to sit and ponder life and art.

Yelp
Sitting right in the mouth of Perkins Cove, Ogunquit Museum Of Art includes a series of classic artwork. To build buzz, the museum has installed a wing showcasing present artists- to their already 20th, 19th, even 18th century masterpieces from local Maine artists. Nicole(I think?) was a darling. Because of COVID, she carefully detailed the museum's layout, museum limitations, where to safely begin our visit as well as signing one of our names+phone number on the museum's contact tracing list. Museum is simple and smallish (not NYC's Museo del Barrio small)- but it does flow nicely. Once you're finished indoors, the museum's back doors lead to their lush terrace overflowing with sculptures. Hubs and I took in the cliff views and the Atlantic's natural beauty- which is actually the real piece of artwork here. We didn't book in advance, but check their website for a more thorough rundown. And for $12 ea, this was a no-hassle museum visit.

Yelp
I've been coming to Ogunquit for 28 years and have never been to the museum until this year. It's a gorgeous spot! The exhibits are great. I'm so glad we checked it out.

Yelp
Absolutely stunning grounds spectacular views of the cove and a wonderful museum to walk around. Definitely recommend a stop here!!

Yelp
The museum is located in a beautiful location in Ogunquit. We made it there just in time before closing and the rain. The gallery had interesting displays, but was not very large. I enjoyed the garden and the outdoor area much more. Right outside of the museum is a beautiful view of the ocean and garden. There are a number of interesting sculptures in the garden and I liked that they labeled almost all of the beautiful flowers, plants and trees. I would recommend this place for anyone who is interested in gardens and landscaping. There were two parking lots so if the main one is full, make sure you go to the overflow lot.

Yelp
The museum's current exhibitions were enjoyable, but we found, but the sculpture garden and seaside location just breathtaking. I regret not visiting this museum on previous trips to Ogunquit, but will not be making the same mistake in the future.

Yelp
4.5 stars for a short visit on a cloudy day. Four stars for the art, ten stars for the location and views. We walked from the center of town, maybe a 30-35 minute walk down a winding road with limited sidewalk (translation: you may prefer to drive if you have a car). The location is spectacular, perched on a cliff overlooking the open ocean with the mansioned tip of Perkins Cove in the distance. The outdoor sculpture garden welcomes you in to the property and the admission desk. The most dramatic modern piece is the closest to the ocean and the incredible views. The museum is small and focused on artists with an Ogunquit or Maine connection, although it was nice to see Jacob Lawrence and Romare Bearden works. I liked the permanent collection room more than the special exhibits and the museum was staffed by friendly and helpful people. You could spend an hour inside and among the sculpture garden works and be content. I could spend the rest of my years looking at the crashing ocean waves. A lovely little museum shop might catch your eye, too.

Yelp
What a nice little local museum. The views of the cove are outstanding, we were shocked that we missed this place on prior visits. A stroll through the gardens is a must. Only with GPS did we find this place as it's nestled in a residential area, but, it is way worth it!

Yelp
Little jewel of a museum, with gardens to stroll and a gorgeous beach view. Emphasis is strongly on local artists, which, since this place was an artist's colony before it became a tourist magnet, means they pack a good bit of variety into a small space. There is currently a reconstructed artist studio in the biggest gallery, and since I love period rooms, obviously I'm delighted. The fifth star is for the gift shop, which carries postcards and magnets and probably other things by actual local artists. So many art museum gift shops, you look for a card of a favorite item and there's nothing even close. THIS one, you will at least find something in the same style and mood.

Yelp
Nice visit to get away from the crowds in town and Perkins cove. Small intimate museum with gorgeous outdoor views along with beautiful landscaping!

Yelp
Ogunquit, which means "beautiful place by the sea" in the indigenous Abenaki (The Abenaki are a tribe of Native Americans) language could not more accurately describe the location of this wonderful museum. The permanent collection of art is world class and is not to be missed. Go to their website to see what is currently on exhibit. The extensive gardens and sculptures will make you want to return often.

Yelp
As other reviewers have noted, this small art museum is, indeed, a gem and makes for a welcome break from the sun, surf, and sand -- or a rainy day option! But best to come on a nice summery day, for the views outside the museum are gorgeous, with a lovely little cove and beautifully kept gardens. (It is a pity, but understandable, that no picnics are allowed on the lawns.) The grounds themselves are a perfect backdrop for their outdoor sculpture collection and a lot of fun for wandering and discovery (our favorite is the otter sculpture!). The views inside the museum are equally pleasant and aside from the permanent collection, they have a gallery for periodic special exhibits and showcases. I would become a member except that we only visit once a year when we're there for our annual ME vacation -- otherwise, I would visit more often and partake of its serenity and beauty.

Yelp
Gorgeous layout, wonderful docents, an amazing sculpture garden with fabulous ocean views. Always a well-curated exhibit and take a little moment to stop off in the gift shop before you leave.

Yelp
http://www.ogunquitmuseum.org/index.html If you'd like an alternative to hitting the sweltering pavement and doing the shops with the rest of humanity in Ogunquit, you will find open July through October, this lovely little museum by the ocean with pretty gardens front and back including sculptures, statuary, lots of butterflies, and a trail that leads right down to where the rocky cliff meets the sea. Admission is $7. Last summer there were exhibits of Jamie Wyeth, Jacob Lawrence and Connie Hayes.

Yelp
Nice museum. Nice collection. The outside has sculptures and an awesome view of ocean. This is a great place to visit and get away from the crowds in town.

Yelp
Beautiful Museum- A Real Gem The Ogunguit Museum of American Art is a great way to spend a morning or afternoon. The staff are very helpful and give you recommendations on the best way to see the museum. Parking is easy in designated lots. The view overlooking the water is breath-taking. Indoors, the Museum has a beautiful collection of art from local artists, ranging from paintings to sculptures. The Henry Strater collection was particularly stunning. If you take your time, there is plenty to see and to enjoy. Cameras are not allowed in the indoor gallery. Outdoors, the Museum has gorgeous gardens with breathtaking flowers and intriguing statues and sculptures that contrast the calming ocean view. Here you can snap away with your camera and take some fantastic shots. Overall, the Ogunguit Museum of American Art is great experience for art lovers and for visitors wanting a break from the beach.

Yelp
I have always loved the Ogunquit Museum of American Art. I visited it often growing up to learn about Maine artists or simply sit in the gardens and take in the stunning views. It is why I wanted to have my wedding ceremony there. OMAA was easy to work with from the start. They helped us plan through the winter and went above and beyond the day of the ceremony. The weather was a bit uncooperative right before our wedding - as soon as the chairs were set out for the outdoor ceremony it rained. When it cleared, the two female staff members assigned to assist with our wedding dried all of the chairs and helped everyone scramble to get the site ready again. During the ceremony one of the staff members actually held the sheet music and turned the pages for the harpist we had hired because it was so windy. We were so touched by all of the effort they put into making sure we had our special moment. OMAA is a gorgeous place for a wedding ceremony. You can seat about 100 people out on the lawn overlooking the water. In late June the gardens were in full bloom and lovely as well. The outdoor ceremony site is very close to the water and does experience a lot of weather. It can be perfect and sunny one moment and stormy the next so that is important to keep in mind. However, I found our guests did not care about the weather because the views are so breathtaking. Plus the indoor ceremony site is as beautiful. I highly recommend this venue as it is unique and scenic and has wonderful staff. We were so happy with our ceremony.

Yelp
It's A-OK. It's very small. I really took my time and it only took me an hour to do the museum including all special exhibits. Also, you get the impression that, by and large, what art they have, they have because the artist donated it. Don't go expecting any famous American masterpieces. If you've got plenty of time such that you don't need to only go to the places that are your highest priority, and you don't mind spending $10 for a small art museum, then go. Otherwise, you can make this place a low priority.

Yelp
This is the twelfth in a series of reviews related to "Joni and Reid's Impromptu Maine Beach Vacation." To see the trip from the beginning, go to the review for the Norseman Resort in Ogunquit, ME. We decided it was time to start heading home. (We had already bought additional clothing to address our woeful underpacking.) But before we did, we decided to stop by the museum, which was advertising an Andy Warhol exhibit. The museum grounds are lovely and overlook Perkins Cove, and the Warhol exhibit, although very small, was somewhat interesting. However, the rest of the museum displays are generally forgettable and somewhat poorly lighted. For the next review in this series, go to Four Mile Lobster in Ogunquit, ME.

Yelp
Great little museum in a spectacular setting. Just at the edge of town on a beautiful bluff amidst manicured gardens and sculptures the OMAA staffer greeting us today 7/28/18 did an exceptional job welcoming us first time visitors providing an informative synopsis of offerings. The museum is compact and well laid out with items from rotating and a permanent collection. Definitely worth a visit, don't just wait for a rainy day as the outside is really special too.

Lesley P.

Yelp
You have to like small art museums to enjoy this one and we do. It had a nice sculpture garden amid beautifully landscaped exterior. The ocean view is spectacular. The art exhibits rotate and they often tie to the local community/history. If you know something about art you will recognize some famous painters like Demuth. The gift shop is very cute and a $5 magnet keepsake was just the right price for us to remember the day. Admission is about $10 apiece. Tip: It is very walkable from Perkins Cove across the foot bridge. Make sure you go left through the neighborhood rather than right out to Shore Road which has no sidewalks and felt very dangerous to navigate. There is parking on site, but on a busy day it might be worth leaving your car in town.

Curtis B.

Yelp
Excellent small museum with rotating Maine themed art exhibits. Wonderful Gardens and outdoor sculptures. Absolutely breathtaking view over Perkins Cove and into the ocean.

Yelp
Small yet lovely museum specializing in American art, with a solid representation of local artists of some historical note from Ogunquit's past as an artist colony. Very well planned and maintained gardens add to the prime oceanside location. Worth a short visit. Friendly staff. Good kids program to keep children engaged. Perfect art museum intro for kids.

Yelp
I'm overdoing it a bit with the 5 stars but this is a lovely place. The gardens are beautiful and there is a pond with frogs , big noisy ones. The museum overlooks the ocean and is above cliffs. It's a great view and on a clear day you can see out to rock formations and their cormorant and seagull vistiors.Watched a chipmunk in the garden by the cliff.Oh yes and there is an art collection here.Several Rockwell Kents, one Marsden Hartley and a lot of nice paintings of the area.

Yelp
Elegant. The gardens are just perfect with the scuptures and palntings, its like the south of France. The collection was not open the day I was there but I have been told it is also very fine, lots of local world class artists. I was staying around the corner in our little cottage and can't wait to go again and see the whole thing. The stoney beach below is fantastic. I went with a friend who spent all his summers there and he pointed out a rock covered in paint from painters having painted there. How real can you get?

Yelp
This is a very small, but nice museum with beautiful grounds and outdoor art. A good place to visit on a rainy day.

Yelp
BREATHTAKINGLY beautiful museum. Admission price was only 10.00. My partner agrees easily worth triple the cost. Go when you have three to four hours to view the varied and beautiful collection and have a wander in the gardens. Curation here is excellent.

Yelp
Small nice quaint museum. In reading about the museum they had said they have an Edward Hopper and unfortunately when we got there it was not on display so that is why 2 stars. We did find some new artist that we liked their work. The gardens outside were very nice, both front and back. When we asked about the Hopper the girl who was taking our money said she did not know anything about it. Had she said I would check on it, there would have been more stars.
