On the Grid : OHO Sushi Studio

"Ok, so we know the deal. Sushi is great - but in a world of budding restaurants just how do you find that one Sushi place that puts itself above the rest? Well, Sushi Studio is packed full of personality and if the amazing assortment of Sushi rolls don’t get you, then the atmosphere will. Every experience at Sushi Studio is a good one and right from when you sit til you leave the restaurant behind you - you’ll be having fun. Even the menus are styled like comic books. How cool is that??" - Down the Street Designs

The quality of the fish here is top notch. It is located off Pacific Coast highway in front of a motel and the parking lot is shared. There are probably around 8 to 10 spots available, otherwise you have to look for parking nearby. The rolls here are all good and you can't make a wrong decision. The highlight for me was the yellow tail jalapeno sashimi which was incredible. You'll want to come during happy hour where the pricing is great, the beer is cold and the sake is tremendous. This restaurant is a must try.

This is my favorite sushi restaurant in Long Beach. staff is always really friendly and they have a lot of great options. I really love the atmosphere and the art on the walls. 🎨🖌️ They know how to celebrate as well! 🤭✨

Google
Excellent sushi in the Seal Beach area. Don't be fooled by the location, as it shares a parking lot with a single humble motel. The salmon sashimi was fresh, silky and cut thick, much to our delight. The rolls were delicious pieces of art, Highly recommend.

Google
My first time here, I was a little skeptical about quality, but the sashimi I ordered was delicious. Kudos to the chef for pairing some fish with yuzu and searing other fish. Happy hour from 12-6pm makes it worthwhile.

Yelp
Need to add more reviews for this sushi bar! It's my fav sushi bar to sit down on week days! I have been here so many times before! On dates, alone for happy hour, with group of friends and with group of family. It's my go to sushi bar. I like all the fresh quality seafood I get here. Sashimis are thick and fresh, the hand rolls are simple and addicting, rolls are tasty and fulfilling. I love to get hot sake when I go at the evening and cold beer at the noon time. Staffs are very friendly, and orders comes in with decent time. They can get busy during happy hour at lunch time. There's usually enough parking spots, but there's a couple street Parking spots as well. Happy Hour - current time is 3-6pm M-F.

Yelp
We have been coming here for 20 years and it's always amazing. The spicy garlic edamame is amazing, the dynamite bowl is . The sunrise on 2nd is my go to roll. Thank you Lindsey for always being an amazing waitress and taking care of us. Jonny and Tia

Yelp
You will see Don's Motel Neon sign before rhr oho sign , Shared same parking lot as Don's Motel . Salmon carpaccio and hamachi sashimi were mouth watering.

Yelp
OK, so we lived across the street for over a year and for some reason we just never decided to go in but I was on yelp one day and I saw the rating reviews and I said let's just walk over here. And this is one of those five star hidden gems in Long Beach. The place was booming with business. Every table was sad, but we were able to sit down really quickly, which was nice. They have all of my favorites, such as the spicy tuna crispy rice, spicy garlic, edamame, and tons of amazing rolls! I've gone twice. The first time I went. I did a bento box and I would recommend sticking to the sushi! We're definitely coming back over and over !

Yelp
This spot is walking distance from our apartment. Since we love sushi, wanted to give this place a try, especially after hearing about their happy hour. We went on a sunday and I myself came in ready to try one of their bento boxes. In it was a roll of avocado salmon, edamame, white rice, a delicious salad and steak teriyaki. Every part of it was very good and I enjoyed the melody of it all. My girlfriend had a spicy tuna hand roll, a spicy salmon hand tool and a specialty rool from their menu. We also split a Sapporo which was nice and cold. The service was good and it wasn't crazy busy. The prices are affordable and we cant wait to come back sometime.

Yelp
Was low key resistant to try this place and I'm so happy I did! The fish was fresh and prices were reasonable that a college kid could afford.
google avatar

Maggie H.

Yelp
Loved the spicy tuna on sushi rice appetizer, which we've never gotten before! We also ordered two rolls, and they were solid, but nothing particularly stood out to me. We've heard the happy hour menu is really good, so we are looking forward to coming then.

Yelp
Yoooooooooooooooo! I dont remember how long i've been getting take out from this place but they never disappoint. Came back here a few days ago and the items that never disappoint in appetizers "green baked mussel, fried squid legs, and the mummy shrimp" For the mediocre appetizers that i feel you can pass on is " calamari, gyoza, chicken karaage and magic mushrooms". As for the rolls I haven't had a single roll from them I didn't like, its very hard to mess up on rolls lol they always taste good my favorites are " Autumn roll w/ shrimp tempura and avocado, Dark knight w fish tempura, jalapeño and avocado, Salmon lover roll w/ cream cheese, Zumba Zumba roll w, blue crab and lynn roll that has shrimp tempura, cream cheese and jalapeño. I always ask for extra chopped jalapeño and they always provide it no charge and put it on top of each of my rolls. The great thing about there rolls too is they don't drown it in eels sauce like alot of restaurants they put too much sauce so it gets soggy when you get home. Oh I almost forgot one of my favorite items is the yellowtail collar when they have it, I did remember once or twice I tried ordering it and it was out if stock but that was a while ago. Ambiance is always lively and friendly, they greet you right away when you enter and greet you farewell when you leave. I will definitely continue to come here when im around the area.

Yelp
My go to spot. It's convenient, not too crowded, and close by to my place. Friendly staff. Tons of parking. And you can't watch the game while eating. Food is good and doesn't take long. They also have Bento boxes for dinner, ramen, and in the pic, orange chicken and garlic fried rice. I was pretty surprised how tasty it was. Came here a few weeks ago and still doesn't disappoint. They also give out cupcakes for bday celebrates. Every time I come, there's always someone celebrating their bday.

Yelp
This place was so good!!! It is small but it's worth it. The sushi was fresh and the flavors were very good. They have other items on the menu too. My favorite was the Amigo handroll. I also really enjoyed the double tuna roll. The Thai tea was also really good and the service was great. The staff and chefs were amazing and the whole atmosphere was very pleasing. Will definitely be back when I am in town.

Yelp
The yellow tail Yama was delicious. Definitely recommend. Love sitting at the bar and staff are friendly. Got our food quickly.

Yelp
OHO Sushi offers excellent sushi at reasonable prices, and the staff is very friendly. The interior was clean and cool looking with murals on the wall. Loved the menu it felt like a newspaper. Sumo roll: 10/10 This roll combines classic sushi flavors perfectly. The tuna slice on top, paired with sweet eel sauce and tangy green onions, makes it outstanding. 911 roll: 10/10 Lightly sprinkled with chili powder and topped with spicy mayo, this roll goes beyond a typical spicy tuna roll. It's packed with flavor and was my wife's favorite. Salmon sushi: 9/10 The salmon is thick, served on a small bed of rice, and has a rich, buttery taste. Highly enjoyable! Tuna sushi: 8/10 While the tuna slice is substantial, it lacks distinct flavor but is still good. It was my least favorite. Definitely worth a visit!

Yelp
Decent sushi for the price and they have great happy hour deals! The only item I thought was a miss was the calamari salad. It was chewy and I was not a fan of the flavor. Otherwise, everything else was good!

Yelp
My friend invited my wife and I here to celebrate his wife's birthday. It's next to a motel and shares the parking lot. It was Monday and parking was full so can't imagine the weekend! Luckily we snagged a spot. Place looks tiny from the outside but it was surprisingly spacious on the inside. Huge sushi bar in the middle and lots of dining room tables. Every wall covered in beautiful murals of Japanese images. Every staff member was so friendly and made our group feel so welcome. I can see why they picked this place for a birthday celebration. What was a nice surprise is they had a happy hour price for a large variety of the menu. Everything was full sized too so you really get a good value. I must have missed my friend tell us we're going to share everything since I didn't have a clue. I ordered one roll, the 911 roll, for my entrée. All of a sudden half of it was gone since everybody was taking it off my plate. I was confused but just went with the flow. haha. The pieces I did get were very good and had a nice heat level. Luckily I ordered a spicy tuna hand roll which was good. The rest of the table had rainbow roll, Philly roll, kaarage, edamame, fried rice and my friend's kid got a mango roll that he loved so much he devoured two rolls. I guess I should have grabbed off their plates but I didn't so I was pretty hungry when we left. After we were done eating the lights went off in the restaurant. Then some house techno music started playing and a disco ball turned on. All the staff started clapping in unison along with all the customers after awhile. After awhile the staff came out and brought a birthday ice cream to my friend's wife. Then for what felt like eternity everybody continued clapped to the techno music while she laughed nervously. It was hilarious because it never seemed to end. It's like they wanted you to eat it while everybody cheers you on. Was pretty funny and I recommend secretly telling them it's somebody at your tables birthday. All in all I thought this was a good sushi place. I wish I had known we were going to eat family style so I could have eaten more but that was on me I guess.

Yelp
Perfect for college students. Happy hour times are our best friend at this place. Their Sexy Girl rolls, Philly hand rolls, seaweed salad, the miso soup, there's so many different rolls that people and I have tried while being here. It's so delicious. Their coffee mochi is also awesome. The servers and chefs are always so nice to us and they will remember you if you come in as a regular :) The vibe in the resturant is either busy or quiet and nice, either way, it's a good vibe and even when its busy, you have your own table and space so it's nice. I highly recommend if you're right next door to CSULB. Parking is always easy too

Yelp
Great Happy Hour 12pm-6pm on weekdays and 3pm-6pm on weekends. This place does handrolls so well! I got 4 different handrolls - Spicy Salmon, Spicy Yellowtail, Salmon Skin, and Spicy Tuna. They were all wonderful. My favorites are the Spicy Salmon and Salmon Skin. The Spicy Salmon handroll has very large pieces of salmon and is actually spicy. The Salmon Skin handroll is sooo crispy and fresh, loaded with salmon skin and not too much rice. I also think that the quality of their fish is great value for happy hour. Nigiri is $4.50 for 2 pieces. I got the yellowtail, which was very decadent and fresh. I think the only gripe I have is that their rice is not seasoned well. It is quite bland compared to other places where you can taste the rice vinegar. It is also a little but mushy, which lets down the integrity of the nigiri. However, the quality of fish is so great that I think it is still worth the happy hour price. Not on the happy hour menu, I ordered the squid legs, Tangerine Roll, and Escolar sushi. Squid legs were crispy and tender, not too tough or chewy at all. The escolar sushi was fantastic! It was slightly seared and tender. The Tangerine Roll was also wonderful. It is a soy-paper wrapped roll. I was worried it would be too sweet with the tangerine sauce, but it was perfectly balanced by the lemon slices and jalapeno.

Yelp
I was a last minute walk in, so Idecided to try this place. I was greeted and attended to by TAY. She was so nice, friendly, attentive and professional. My meal was perfect!! I will definitely be back simply because of her service and hospitality:) Give her a raise!!

Yelp
The Sushi here was okay. Nothing left a lasting impression on me. I'd recommend checking them out during happy hour to give them a try without paying the full cost if it does not meet up your standards. The service wasn't the best but I'm assuming they may have been short staff.
google avatar

Olivia F.

Yelp
Want high quality sushi and a fun ambiance? This is the place to be. Fish is high quality and the restaurant is kitschy and eclectic. Although it's located in the same lot as a slightly sketchy motel, it doesn't affect the restaurant much and if anything, just adds to the overall allure of this place. The service is efficient and friendly and it's super fun to sit at the bar and watch the chefs prepare the huge variety of rolls and sashimi. It's a little on the pricier side, but I would rather spend a bit and have a good experience and not get food poisoning than try to save a bit of cash and end up on my bathroom floor for 24 hours.

Yelp
I'm not sure what happened to this place. Given it's been a while since I've been hear, but I remember the food being pretty good and one of the better sushi places in Long Beach. We came in on a Friday night, and the place was only half full, which is typically not a great sign. We ordered octopus, tuna and yellowtail cut rolls along with a bowl of ramen. The ramen was a step up from Top Ramen from the grocery store. The octopus was so chewy, it was barely edible. And the tuna and yellowtail tasted old. It was difficult to finish. The prices are rather reasonable, which would be the only draw here if you like stale food.
google avatar

Greg K.

Yelp
Oho is my "go to" sushi restaurant in Long Beach. The staff are very friendly and accommodating. Excellent food. Freshness is key. Going there on Friday. Kombanwa!!!!

Andrea H.

Yelp
Got our bill then the unbelievable happened! My husband opened the black bill folder and a roach came out. OHO what the heck!??
google avatar

Yelp
The quality of the fish here is top notch! We found this place trying to find a sushi spot with the boat platter. Unfortunately, we didn't see the boat platter on the menu it was an outdated picture but we do not regret finding this place. It's in between a motel and Mexican restaurant so its easy to miss driving by. I definitely recommend the salmon rolls and the Yellow tail jalapeño sashimi. The sashimi was topped with an amazing sauce. We sat at the bar and It was nice to be able to watch the chef do his work. This place has a large sushi bar area, an awesome newspaper menu, enough room, and parking space.

Ivette G.

Yelp
This is our go to sushi spot in Long Beach! Always great service as well! Service is usually quick.

Yelp
I've driven by this place so many times over the years and never got a chance to try it until a week or so ago. (Been meaning to write a review right after but being a part-time nanny kept me busy ) I was craving sushi and I think we drove by here after church? Anyway, parked in the motel parking lot, went in and sat at the bar with my son and my friend's son. (They were so patient with his wild and adventurous personality. Thank you for putting up with us. ) So for those of you who follow me, y'all know I love sushi right? Particularly, salmon, yellowtail, albacore sushi AND Uni! I didn't know where to start but I got my son and I all of those and yes, he ate all of them with me. Then, we had to try the specialty rolls: Crab Company roll was yummy! So was the other special roll with lobster and wrapped in rice paper (I can't remember the name. It wasn't lobster roll...) I couldn't pick but the sushi chef (Bryan?) was super nice and helped us decide. Check out the pics! (Oh yes, I was hungry! So I ordered a bunch!) I also ordered the crispy rice with spicy tuna! Can't go wrong there! The shumai was not my fav but my son ate them. They're best at Dim Sum places. The salmon carpaccio was sooooo good! Mmmm! Will come back! Maybe on a date? It's an intimate place.
google avatar

Sumir D.

Yelp
First time here and ate the food too fast to take photos. 20 years in the same location and service is great. Owner is Cesar and he makes it a point to visit everyone as they come in to dine. Definitely coming back.

Yelp
My daughters frequented this place and led my wife and I to try it out... and we are so happy we did!!! Sushi is always fresh and super tasty. Love the variety and this always helps my wife and I try new items!!! My favorite is the Lynn roll. One of the best sushi rolls I have ever eaten!!! We normally order take out from here and the service is always friendly when calling in... and when we pick up they always have everything ready and make sure we have extra of whatever we need!!! Like I said we do not normally eat in. But when picking up you can feel the positive vibe in the restaurant. Workers are always moving quickly and making sure the customers are taken care of. The sushi chefs are always friend and welcoming when I come in. Highly recommend!!!

Emily S.

Yelp
My best friend took me to lunch here today and may I say it was the best sushi I think I've ever had. I've lived in Long Beach for years and have never tried this place.. so so glad I did. We went for happy hour and got four good size rolls and a calamari salad for only $44! We got the 911, the Atlantic, the shrimp tempura cut roll and salmon avocado cut roll! My friend is a loyal customer and goes every year for her birthday so very glad she put me on to this place. The service was also excellent and the staff were very attentive and helpful when placing our order. There's also a HUGE selection of rolls.
google avatar

Yelp
Always passed by this place and always told myself I'm going to try it, after 2yrs, my fiancé and I walked inand were amazing by the friendly service and delicious food! Ambiance felt very Japanese like as well. We went in during happy hour and were not disappointed at all, our favorite was the Yellow Tail Mango sashimi worth a try!! Will definitely be making more returns here! Thank you for the amazing service we received today.

Yelp
What if we kissed...at the secret motel sushi spot? Yes, it looks like it is located in the lobby of a PCH Motel (Don's). Yes, you would wonder why you should stop here. Yes, you will find the parking situation "interesting". And yes, it is the best sushi you will have in Long Beach. To say this is a local hidden gem is an understatement. You'd expect very fresh, high quality sushi to be located on 2nd/PCH, or in Belmont Shores, or even on the top floor of someplace in downtown. No, it is in this odd, barely-lit location next to the CSULB Beachside campus and a car wash. I judge a sushi bar on its octopus sushi (Tako) because it is easy to F up. Normally, it can taste like shoe leather and is super chewy, but if they know what they are doing, it will be tender, and tastes slightly of lemon and sea salt. Here they nailed it! Tender, enjoyable, with that little squeeze of citrus over it and a sprinkle of coarse sea salt right before serving it to me. Perfection! We also were really impressed with the miso soup. I know, right? Such a small detail, but that is what this place is good at. Remembering the little details that make an overall sushi experience so enjoyable. We also got the chef's special (chef's choice of 8 pieces of sushi, plus a salmon or tuna roll), and a 911 roll. The 911 roll was well-balanced. Sometimes specialty rolls can be all sauce and no substance. Not this one. They know how to control their flavors here so that the fish is always the star. The sushi that came in the chef's choice was these thick cuts of extremely fresh and buttery fish. Even the Maki roll was made with the high quality fish. We were just pleasantly surprised all around. Don't judge a book by its cover. Come in and find one of the best kept sushi secrets in LA.

Annabella V.

Yelp
My friend and I went during Happy Hour to save some money, and they honestly had a solid amount of choices on the menu (definitely not near the full amount of choices though) but we did end up getting a few things off of it as well. The food was really good, however I don't know if I'd be willing to pay full price for everything. The service was really good and we were checked in on quite a few times (but not in an annoying way). I will say the setting isn't quite my vibe but if you're craving sushi where you can also watch sports, this is your place. Overall solid place to go with friends and family!
google avatar

Des R.

Yelp
One of Long Beach's hidden gems. The service is average & the inside is kind of small. Intimate for sure. It sits in the parking lot of a motel so parking can be tricky, but the food definitely makes up for everything. The 911 & volcano roll are must haves
google avatar

Stefanie B.

Yelp
I first discovered OHO during COVID. From the location it doesn't stand out, but once you're inside what a great place. I love the murals on the wall! This place is always packed and with good reason because it's the best sushi in LB in my opinion. Love their Yellowtail jalapeño, crunchy veggie roll, and cucumber salad. The wait staff are very accommodating and the sushi chefs are friendly and knowledgeable .
google avatar

Maurice W.

Yelp
Great Food. Great Staff. Parking is a little confusing, however, the food is great and the staff coincides with the great food. Team is very accommodating and attentive. Great ingredients and clean. On the smaller side, however, you're able to hold conversation naturally without having to talk over other diners.
google avatar

Alex K.

Yelp
Great food, great chefs. We go here all the time because it's consistently delicious and you can't beat the happy hour prices. Love Oho and grateful they're in my neighborhood!

Yelp
Bomb Ass Sushi. Been to several sushi spots in Long Beach, but these guys do it right. Do the Hamachi Belly or Salmon Belly Black Truffles & can't go wrong.
google avatar

Beck M.

Yelp
Place was very dirty & food was overpriced & not good (chicken katsu was over cooked -fried too crispy)& not very cooked on inside...overall experience was terrible
google avatar

Dlo K.

Yelp
Haven't been here in years and went back just this week and wish I went sooner. The happy was on point and ordered about 4 rolls with spicy and crunchy as my top fav. However I did order off 'script' and tried the Dark knight roll and dannnnnng it was so good! I always order an asahi ( on happy hour) and cucumber salad, and my friends and I were left satisfied and looking forward to our next visit. It's causal vibe, but a good one to hit the sushi spot.
google avatar

Bassey A.

Yelp
Love everything about this place! Seating is open along the perimeter or at the sushi bar. Both rolls I got were delicious, and didn't fall apart like some other sushi spots I've been to. Prompt and efficient service and the prices are decent too for the amount of food you get. Parking is shared with a motel, which hasn't been an issue finding a space so far. If you haven't been yet, definitely check this place out!
google avatar

Yelp
We had a great experience last night for our 42nd Anniversary! Service was Great and the Sushi/Sashimi were Amazing
google avatar

Mona S.

Yelp
Love OHO! Today was our 42nd Anniversary and had an Excellent Feast! I ordered the Double Tuna Roll which is now on my Favorites List! Everything was super fresh and delicious!

Heather B.

Yelp
Yummy sushi and polite staff. This restaurant is good for families or friends to get together for a dinner out.
google avatar

Gina C.

Yelp
The service was fine. The food lacked blended flavor, I felt like someone poured syrup on the rolls. The tempura was 4 skinny pieces of shrimp. I thought it was a bit over priced. It wasn't anything fancy which doesn't matter but I thought I'd be happy with the food itself.
google avatar

Luke C.

Yelp
Service is quick, friendly and very accommodating for single diners during happy hours.
google avatar

Mahmut E.

Yelp
This review is for carry out only. I ordered spicy, tuna, salmon and California rolls. It was very fast service, everything was ready in 10 minutes. And customer service was good. I liked their sushi, however, the rice was. Little rough for me. It looked like a clean place. There is plenty of parking next to restaurant.

Yelp
I was craving sushi and was looking for a place that had Happy Hour. We searched up a few places and came across OHO so we decided to give it a shot. Once we got there we got seated right away (it wasn't busy at all). It was our first time there and we let it be known. We had a few questions, but it seemed like we didn't get much assistance when needed because, I believe, they were short staffed at the time. Every time we had a question we had to wait a while just for our server to come across our table again. We finally understood the menu and how to order then that's when I started seeing more staff on the floor. Our food came out pretty quick and everything tasted good, but none of the rolls stood out except the Crispy Triangles (not sushi) which was my favorite from today's eats. One thing I highly disliked was their women's restroom door does not lock. When I walked back to my table there was an unnoticeable raised tile that I tripped over. The space was very tight, but that's because I had to push a double stroller through the restaurant... so that's not on them.
