Ohtel Wellington

Location is right on the water along Oriental Parade. Close to some excellent restaurants and a great coffee shop. If you are up for a bit of exercise, Mt Victoria is right there. Fun retro rooms with Danish style furniture. Good size room and very nice washroom. Staff are friendly and helpful.

We enjoyed our stay at this hotel, which only has 10 rooms. We were on the top floor and had a great view (and a small balcony). We never had a problem accessing the lift. The room was very clean. All of the staff we interacted with were very professional. We did not order anything from the small cafe on the first floor however it looked yummy! We walked to everything as the hotel is well located and Wellington is easy to see by foot. ||The bathroom was very nice, albeit a bit strange. It's all glass -- and is not frosted. There is a curtain to pull around to cover the glass but it's a bit awkward. Additionally, the door did not shut all the way and was slightly cracked. My partner and I appreciate our privacy when using the facilities so this was an adjustment for us. ||Because we were on the third/top floor, we could hear the wind whistling around us throughout the night. We turned on the white noise on our phones to drown it out. When we laughed about it the next day when we were checking out, we were told that that is their normal wind! ||The pillow menu was a hoot!

A wonderful boutique hotel with a great location on the harbour and close to Te Papa Museum. |The staff were very friendly and helpful, suggesting places for dinner and parking. There is a lovely coffee shop as part of the hotel which offered a delicious breakfast and snacks.|A special shout out to staff, Katrina(?) who helped out enormously to make a local call and track down a missing item. What a gem!

Located right along the waterfront, the hotel is narrow but built deep into the hill. After overcoming the strange little slope at the entrance (series of wooden bumper which made dragging luggage a chore), I checked in at a table next to a sign that read “Ohtel Pantry”, which had initially confused me over which door I should enter. The rooms are large and beautifully decorated in the mid century (20th) decor. On the bed, there’s a card which explains the type of pillows, from which you can choose to use. I love the fact that there’s a Nespresso machine (seriously, which higher end hotel still uses instant coffee?), and in wet and windy Wellington, I love the heated towel rails and the fact that the bathroom is separately heated. What I did not love about the shower is that it is higher than the rest of the bathroom, so the water will flow out to parts of the bathroom. BTW, each room in the hotel is unique, check out their video to see. Service wise, it feels like I’m home. Everyone is so friendly, and I love sitting by the window on cold evenings with my cup of hot chocolate with their homemade marshmallows. Definitely going back to try the other rooms!

We checked into Ohtel on Boxing Day and were very impressed with the rooms - particularly the size and amenities. The services was outstanding, bed was comfortable and great coffee in the morning. We’ll be back!

No idea how it is possible for this hotel to have a 5 star rating. Here’s what it is. 1. The entrance foyer is less than 720mm wide making it an illegal and a fire hazard. 2. The sliding doors to the toilet and shower were less than 650mm wide again not legal. 3. The shower is open and the drain cannot handle the water flow causing the bathroom area to flood and being slippery. 4. The drain in the bathroom had a terrible foul odour. I mentioned it to room service and they poured bleach down the drain which only temporarily stopped the smell. 5. No bathroom privacy. Just an poor curtain 6. The sheen buster bed. Be careful. The small backgammon size coffee table wobbler hopelessly out of order. I am seasoned traveller who very rarely makes complaints but this place needs to exposed for the lies it purports. Andrew. I stayed here for 2 nights and it was absolutely perfect - I wish I could have stayed longer! The staff were all so friendly and welcoming and the room was amazing. It was clean, comfortable and spacious. I stayed in the king sized room with the bath which was absolutely enormous and perfect for a relaxing stay. All the toiletries and minibar items were locally produced which I loved and the soaps smelt amazing. The small touches of the personalised welcome card, pillow menu, and heated bathroom floor really made my visit top tier. The room service food and drink were brilliant and the 11am check out time was really nice for a lie in and breakfast in bed on the last day. I honestly cannot thank the Ohtel team enough for such a brilliant stay 🩷

I’ll sum up the pro’s and cons: + location, charming, nice people, clean, breakfast - shower ( barely any pressure ), weird bathroom door that doesn’t close all the way with curtains, bed is not my personal favorite. Tips: make something where you can hang your clothes on ( there’s plenty room for it )
