On the Grid : Ichi Ichi Ku Izakaya

"Ichi Ichi Ku brings Japanese kitsch to South Yarra. You’ll be rubbing shoulders with the people next to you in this cosy venue, which adds to its buzzing atmosphere. The menu is extensive, but don’t go past the fresh sashimi or the Ichi Ni (lobster) sushi roll. For those walking around the Tan in the morning, drop in for a Japanese influenced breakfast, or pick up some small dishes for a picnic in the nearby parks." - Blueboat

Very delightful little Japanese cafe serving the kind of food you’d find in Japan! The staff are Japanese and efficient. The edamame was perfectly charred, Katsu pork was perfect and the curry sauce was good enough for us to take it away :)

Comfort food with great service and cozy atmosphere. I was there 14:35 - still have time to enjoy and relax. Beef curry is delicious with generous portion. Will come back again.

This place definitely serves one of the best katsu curry’s ever! i’ve been dying to try oishii tokyo-a small family owned Japanese restaurant that has the most friendly kind service with the most relaxing comfiest vibes, they have lots of different options. My personal favourites are the Bento box’s, the Katsu curry & the potato croquettes! Oh my god, they’re delicious You have to try them! Good portions, quick service good prices, & delicious food, definitely recommend will come again. 😊🍛❤️

My wife and I got lost looking for a 7/11 that had a working Slurpee machine when we passed Oishii Tokyo and I realised I hadn't had dinner yet so we popped in. It was nearly closing and we could do takeaway only but that wasn't a problem. I am so glad! We both are! The service was really warm and welcoming. They paid a lot of attention to the food and service and we felt welcome even though it was late. I ordered the unagi rice bowl and oh my goodness it's some of the best unagi I've had outside of Osaka. My wife had the tempura vegetable noodle soup and it was also excellent. We got some edamame and seaweed salad, and all this for under $50! Wow! We also enjoyed the okonomiyaki, so so delicious. Honestly will definitely be returning, what a charming, lovely Japanese restaurant. Thanks for having us so late!

Absolutely loved our dining experience at Oishii Tokyo! The food was fresh, flavourful, and beautifully presented. The chicken teriyaki is an absolute must-try tender, juicy, and perfectly glazed with that signature sweet-savory sauce. And don’t miss out on their mochi. Soft, chewy, and the perfect sweet treat to end your meal! The service was just as impressive. The staff were friendly, attentive, and made sure everything was perfect from start to finish. You can really feel the care they put into both the food and the customer experience. If you’re craving authentic Japanese food with great service and a welcoming atmosphere, Oishii Tokyo is definitely the place to go!

I went here for a quick lunch. It was so good, like comfort food - it felt like a big hug to my stomach 😂. Such unassuming place. It got busy! Recommend if you are in that area and want something simple but tasty! I had the chicken katsu curry and rice.

Ok so after my first review of this place,a lot of people said I should give it another go, and going on the positive reviews on here i decided to do just that, and this time I ordered their special curry, at $20 buck's a pop it's not too bad a price, but and it's hard to say this, and again I might be missing something here but, in all my years of having Japanese food, here in Australia or Canada their curries are very consistent, but you be the judge just take a look at the pics I have added of the meal I was served, it was more of a broth or soup but definitely not, what I would call a curry,I even went back to speak with the server to ask if this was the usual way this item was served and he said no, so what is it with me and this place! I am just going at the wrong times, or am I just that unlucky, but definitely won't try for a third time 😞😞
