On the Grid : Ichi Ichi Ku Izakaya

"Ichi Ichi Ku brings Japanese kitsch to South Yarra. You’ll be rubbing shoulders with the people next to you in this cosy venue, which adds to its buzzing atmosphere. The menu is extensive, but don’t go past the fresh sashimi or the Ichi Ni (lobster) sushi roll. For those walking around the Tan in the morning, drop in for a Japanese influenced breakfast, or pick up some small dishes for a picnic in the nearby parks." - Blueboat

The best Katsu curry in Melbourne!! It’s tucked away just outside of the city but still really easy to get to, right by Anzac station. I’ve been there 6 times now and every time the food is just as great as before. Really great value for money and the staff are kind too!

Lovely little place once you find it. Reminds me of those little places in Japan where the menu is small but they do all those things really well. Highly recommend stopping in if you’re in the area. Potato croquettes were a highlight.

My wife and I got lost looking for a 7/11 that had a working Slurpee machine when we passed Oishii Tokyo and I realised I hadn't had dinner yet so we popped in. It was nearly closing and we could do takeaway only but that wasn't a problem. I am so glad! We both are! The service was really warm and welcoming. They paid a lot of attention to the food and service and we felt welcome even though it was late. I ordered the unagi rice bowl and oh my goodness it's some of the best unagi I've had outside of Osaka. My wife had the tempura vegetable noodle soup and it was also excellent. We got some edamame and seaweed salad, and all this for under $50! Wow! We also enjoyed the okonomiyaki, so so delicious. Honestly will definitely be returning, what a charming, lovely Japanese restaurant. Thanks for having us so late!

Very delightful little Japanese cafe serving the kind of food you’d find in Japan! The staff are Japanese and efficient. The edamame was perfectly charred, Katsu pork was perfect and the curry sauce was good enough for us to take it away :)

Comfort food with great service and cozy atmosphere. I was there 14:35 - still have time to enjoy and relax. Beef curry is delicious with generous portion. Will come back again.

Ok so after my first review of this place,a lot of people said I should give it another go, and going on the positive reviews on here i decided to do just that, and this time I ordered their special curry, at $20 buck's a pop it's not too bad a price, but and it's hard to say this, and again I might be missing something here but, in all my years of having Japanese food, here in Australia or Canada their curries are very consistent, but you be the judge just take a look at the pics I have added of the meal I was served, it was more of a broth or soup but definitely not, what I would call a curry,I even went back to speak with the server to ask if this was the usual way this item was served and he said no, so what is it with me and this place! I am just going at the wrong times, or am I just that unlucky, but definitely won't try for a third time 😞😞

Small restaurant. Delicious food. It is right at the corner of the Park str. Udon noodles are not enought water. Rice and sushi is great! I don't like their closing hours. The toilet is small and located outside the restaurant.
