As a native son of Georgia, visiting the Okefenokee Swamp has been a lifelong wish. Returning home for the holidays, a friend and I finally made the pilgrimage and chose Okefenokee Pastimes Cabins and Campground—and it could not have been a better decision.
From the moment we arrived, Ray at the front desk greeted us with genuine Southern warmth and ease. He welcomed us, showed us around, and even walked us to our Deluxe Cabin. We were delighted to discover there’s a restaurant on site (with beer and wine) as well as a well-stocked store—unexpected comforts in such a beautifully remote setting. Ray brought us firewood so we could enjoy a fire in our cabin’s fire pit.
In the months leading up to our visit, Charlene was a delight to work with – charming, thoughtful, and incredibly helpful as we planned our stay. Though she’s transitioning to new horizons, her hospitality set the tone long before we arrived.
Our Deluxe Cabin was adorable, spotless, and smartly designed. Under brand-new ownership, we had the pleasure of meeting one of the owners, Erica, several times during our stay. The cabin included a kitchen and a full bathroom with a shower –comfortable, efficient, and perfect after long days exploring.
Whenever we needed anything, the staff was consistently cordial, responsive, and kind. And the location truly cannot be beat – the campground sits directly across the street from the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge, making it the closest and most convenient lodging imaginable.
I’ve already shared Okefenokee Pastimes with friends who are eager to visit, and I wholeheartedly recommend it. I look forward to returning and spending more time immersed in the quiet, mysterious, and magical presence of the swamp. And after leaving and hours away visiting family, I realized I left my new converse shoes in the cabin. I called and Ray offered to mail them to me the next day. Thanks for a wonderful and magical time in the swamp!
