Oki Seaside Hotel Tsurumaru

The accommodation is old but traditional. Don't expect modern amenities here as compared to those in the mainland. However, the service was exceptional and staff here are very friendly and extremely helpful where they will go the extra mile to make your stay comfortable. The staff went out of the way to give me a lift to the port on both days as I was unable to rent a car, and also changed my room from futon to bed to accommodate my physical condition.

If you are planning to visit SW Japan, you should include a trip to the remote Oki Islands. They are 2 hours away by high speed ferry but a world away. My pick of the Oki Islands is NishinoShima, and without question the Oki Seaside Hotel Tsurumaru would be the place to stay. They have a mix of Japanese rooms and western rooms, with great views onto the water. The food at the Tsurumaru was better than some very high end ryokans on the mainland. You cannot get better seafood than at this hotel! The people are friendly and some staff speak very good English. They can arrange to take you out to walk the amazing Kuniga Coast with its 1000 foot cliffs and exotic rock formations or anywhere else you would like to see. I rented a car, which was worth but not necessary. Wonderful hotel.

Stayed one night in one of the rooms than can handle multiple guests. Spacious accommodations, clean and right near the harbor. I would probably recommend one of the rooms in the main wing on the second floor.||The hotel will send a van to pick you up if you let them which ferry that you are taking. Some Japanese is a must, but the staff is courteous and the restaurant is the building where you check in.||The food is all Japanese style and the dinner is a true feast which is almost too much for the average person. Dinner and breakfast are included in the price of the room.||There really is no transportation unless you sign up for some tour. We hired a taxi for 1 1/2 hours (8,500 yen) and were taken to scenic spots. I doubt that there is a English speaking taxi driver and I was traveling with my wife who is a Japanese speaker.||If I ever visit this area again I would definitely stay here again. It is truly a very laid back environment.

Stayed here in December 2014 and was left disappointed. I also had a chance to check out a number of rooms as its part of my job to do so. ||||The restaurant area is excellent. Nice open space with a view over the harbour. The food was ok, but not exceptional considering the price of an overnight stay.||||However, the actual hotel itself is in need of a major makeover. The public areas are shabby and cold and it looks like the carpets haven't been hoovered for a while. Also, there were boxes left around the place, including in front of a fire exit. ||||The shared baths are interesting but a complete waste of time. The water is so hot that its impossible to stay in the water for more than a minute. I asked and the staff told me it was kept at 42 degrees Celsius, although it felt more like 45. I have visited more than 50 onsens through work and this was the only time I couldn't bear the heat.||||The rooms themselves were also disappointing. Each room I saw had stains on the tatami and/or cupboard doors.||||As I said, overall feeling was one of disappointment. The hotel has a great restaurant in a nice spot. Perhaps with a little bit of investment and a lot more pride, the Tsurumaru can improve. Hope so, for Oki's sake.

We travelled to Nishino-shima and Dogo Island this April, and tried our best to fit the schedule so that there are vacancy of two cabins at this hotel with waterfront location. Turns out we made good choices. ||Spacious with chance for kids to run around (also up and down - two storeys), sniff for the real sea slugs, starfish, jellyfish in the water.

知り合いのヨットを係留してもらっているご縁で、朝ごはん、晩ごはん、お風呂をいただきました。 場所が海の前なので、一階のレストランからは圧巻のオーシャンビュー。 お天気が良かったので、海、空の青、森の緑と大自然の中にあります。 そして、お料理。 朝ごはんは、佃煮、お漬物、海苔、卵とご飯2杯くらい食べれそうなボリューム。 晩ごはんは、もー完璧。 海鮮のアヒージョ、カルパッチョ、お造り、まぐろの目玉、茶碗蒸し、お腹いっぱいです。 まぐろの目玉はトロトロでめちゃくちゃ美味しい。 アヒージョは海鮮の旨みがオイルに溶け出していて、パンにしっかり染み込ませていただきました。 女将さん最高です！ ついつい長話してしまってました。 また行きたいです！

ツアーで宿泊させて頂きました。ホテルに忘れ物をしたのをフェリーの別府港まで届けて頂きとても感謝してます。ありがとうございました。ホテルの食事がとても新鮮で美味しいお刺身を楽しみに来たのでとても満足です。全部完食しました。

海の幸が最高です。社長さんが観光船の船頭さん、板前さん、港までの送迎のバスの運転手さんまでこなす4刀流のすごい人でした!
