Google
A very interesting place to look at the history of Okinawa, from the wildlife, geography, to its original settlers. There is both English and Japanese descriptions underneath the different exhibits so there is no need to worry about not being able to read. If you are interested in the history of Okinawa or just like museums this is a nice place to visit.

Google
Very well constructed and interesting museum, I got the all exhibit pass. You can also get an audio tour that is offered in many languages at the museum library. Also had lunch at the cafe the food was very good and the service was wonderful

The museum does an amazing job of showcasing the rich history and culture of the Ryukyu Kingdom. From the moment I walked in, I was impressed by the well-designed exhibits and the wealth of information on display. The museum's collection includes everything from ancient artifacts and pottery to royal regalia and traditional Okinawan crafts. I particularly enjoyed the exhibits on the Ryukyu Kingdom's history, including its relationships with China and Japan. The displays were engaging, informative, and beautifully presented. One of the highlights of my visit was the museum's attention to detail in recreating traditional Okinawan scenes and environments. The exhibits on traditional Okinawan clothing, food, and architecture were fascinating, and I loved the interactive elements that allowed me to learn more about the local culture. The museum also offers a range of temporary exhibitions, which I've heard are always worth checking out. My only criticism is that some of the signage could be translated into more languages, as I noticed some tourists struggling to understand the Japanese text. Overall, I would highly recommend the Okinawa Prefectural Museum to anyone interested in learning more about this unique and fascinating region of Japan. It's a must-visit destination for anyone traveling to Naha!

A striking museum, I enjoyed walking around the spaces created by this unique bit of architecture. The building is a modern representation of the fortresses found on hilltops around Okinawa. Parking is free for visitors and even if you are not interested in the exhibitions which are currently running, the building and garden around the museum itself are worth the visit.

Okinawa is an absolute gem waiting to be explored! Immerse yourself in the vibrant culture and rich history that fill every corner of this stunning destination. Plus, there’s a delightful café perfect for unwinding and savoring the moment. It’s an adventure you won’t want to miss!

Very nice museum, mix history, archaeology, and art in Okinawa. I had the chance to attend an exhibition about black Jack, should please all animes fan. Normal entrance ticket is about 540 yen, blackjack is 1600 yen.

Google
We only visited the art museum today. There was several special exhibits going on- one relating to beach trash and turning it into art and another relating to local students and digital art. Both were so intriguing! The art museum had a smaller collection than many museums I have been to, however it was nice to walk thru and learn about the history and culture of Okinawa. We were very happy to see English explanations near most of the pieces. Very friendly staff! Free parking, museum cafe for food, bathrooms, and a gift shop!

Yelp
Wished we were more inform on which exhibits to go to and what to pay for. Me and a few friends bought the one-day admission for ¥1330, thinking it would give us a tour for the whole entire museum, but we were wrong. Each exhibit cost more and if not, some Yennies. So disappointed! We drove all the way from Kadena for an hr drive roughly. And saw online about this place that it'll cost ¥410, but we were wrong. Friends and I wanted to tour the one that has all the 3D effects of what we saw online, but ended up paying for seeing paintings and DIFFERENT COLORED OUTFITS OF THE SAME OUTFIT! Which was sorta interesting, but a bit boring! Something that we couldn't even take pictures at all, even with no flash! Ugh... And question is, will I be back... MAYBE! Hopefully I wont be ripped off for paying something that I DID NOT want to pay for. And paying for ¥1330 for a one-day admission totally wasn't worth it! And so was the drive... And I don't have enough YEN to pay for extra admission fees, since I came with a budget, and needed to go else where to spend money on food which requires YEN. #Priorities

Yelp
We heard this place was good but usually were doing other things in Naha. Had some time to stop in and was glad we finally made it. The front has free parking and a display of a typical Okinawan house and kiln. Inside there's automatic ticket machines that allow you access to the museum, the special features and/or the art museum and special features. I chose to see the basic museum which encompasses history and plant life. The special art museum feature looked great for kids. They have a free audio guide which you get right behind the ticket counter available in 5 languages (Japanese, Mandarin, Korean, English and Spanish). It's comes with a clipboard map and you click the pen to the display number on the map to initiate the audio. I wouldn't recommend going in numeric order since they tend to be scattered through out. I would suggest instead to make two counterclockwise circles around the main lobby, the first being the history and the second, the outer exhibits for plants and nature. Looks to look at and read with plenty of security staff to answer questions. There's also a hands on room for kids, a gift shop with unique things, a cafe upstairs and a art museum wing.

Yelp
We didn't venture into the art side of the building and just kept to the museum side. Very well put together and informative museum covering the history of Okinawa from prehistoric times to the present. There was also a section of the natural fauna and plants of the islands and a anthropological section. If you allot yourself about 1.5 hours, you should be able to see the bulk of the displays. Signs and explanations are available in English however, the explanations are not as elaborate as the Japanese signage.

Yelp
If you have a couple hours to kill, this is the place to spend it if you want a little Okinawa history lesson. For 410 yen, you get admission to their permanent exhibit. They also have temporary exhibits. While I was there, they had a temporary anime exhibit. The temporary exhibit usually costs more money. You also get a free ipod audio guide for you to borrow along with your admission for just 410 yen.

Yelp
They museum is great and has a lot of beautiful artwork. However, the cafe staff were rude and they were out of almost all of the types of food on their menu.

Yelp
Intersting museum of local okinawa history. 410 yen admission for the permanent exhibit of Okinawa history & natural history includes ipod audio guide in english, Chinese, or Japanese. Also has visiting or temporary exhibits for additional admission. There was an anime con going on while I was there. Inside, there is a cafe, free wifi, a library, a/c, clean bathrooms & a gift shop. Worth a visit for 1 or 2 hours.

Yelp
A terrible a complete waste of money. Each section of the museum was split off and monetized. We literally paid $30 for a 10 minute walk in the dinosaur exhibit. Don't waste your time or money with this place. You have to pay for each section of the museum. We did this for the kids and they didn't even enjoy themselves. I would give zero stars if I could.
