Absolutely love this shop, such a vibrant and unique place, so many treasures inside! I am heart broken to hear about it closing, it will be missed so much by so many! I could spend hours in here, it’s magical! truly nothing else like it, get to go while you still have chance and support them online as well

On a dull winter's day walk into this shop and suddenly everything is technicolor !! Great range of fun things to treat yourself or to buy a gift. Wacky and fabulous !!

Quirky and vibrant gift shop. Great for cards, stocking fillers and things for children. Would definitely come again and recommend it

My sister knew about this shop and wanted to head there on our trip. Lovely polite welcoming and friendly staff. This shop is a colourful random treasure trove of wonders. Our favourite areas were probably the books, cards and tree ornaments. Special and rare items in the shop make for great gifts.

Cute shop with various small gifts and ideas. They offer gift wrapping and packing. We were drawn because of the name but left with a great present for our friend.

Yelp
I can tell you now, this shop is going to make me very Very Very Poor... I love it, such a random gathering of odds and ends, some nostalgic, some art loveliness and some just straight up for kids, all pretty reasonably priced with a real range of items and prices. If you're as much of a fan of them as I am, they have a damn good selection of insulting cards, pretty postcards and giftwares (mines the new york map printed robe, if you so wish to get me one, thanks!) all sorts of homewares, jellycat teddies, bouncy eggs, instruments, projectors, kitchen wares, jewellery by small independents like wolf and moon, cushions, all in a manner of bright colours and prints. Whether you're arty, or hipster, or whatever, I would be pretty surprised if they didn't have something that you wanted to buy in here for yourself, never mind a friend. Heaps and heaps of quirky loveliness, that, honestly, you don't need, but you'll convince yourself that you do, and, all though the store is reasonably large, it is JAM PACKED TO THE FREAKING BRIM, there's stuff hanging off the ceiling and everything. The staff have always been lovely, and all though the stuff is spread round everywhere, you'll want to wander around for a while, just hide your bank card before you do if you're skint...

Yelp
I have wanted to go to Oklahoma for at least a year now and just never got around to it! Eventually today was the day...and I was not disappointed at all! This quirky and cutesy store was everything I dreamed of! I couldn't wait to let my purse loose and I was didn't leave empty handed! This place is great for knick knacks, xmas presents and homely decor for those (like me) that are obsessed with kitchenware, signs and much much more! I was careful and only bought a little Christmas tree decoration (part of a family tradition) I buy my Mum one each year and this winter it will be an addition of a cute glass bottle with a wish and fairy (glitter) floating around inside! Picture to follow...

Yelp
No more cafe - only "gifts" Oklahoma was always a place to come for your gifts, particularly novelty items that aren't intended as anything serious: inflatable animals, paper lanterns, plastic kitsch and pun-heavy disposable items. Now that the cafe's gone, there's no reason to come back on any regular basis - there are only so many flamingoes and robots one can have at home. Still a great rainy day shop but no more lingering over coffee or milkshake.

Yelp
Ever wanted a frying pan that makes heart-shaped eggs? How about a grill that makes toast with religious figures engraved on? Or a polka dot suitcase with a smaller polka dot case inside? In short, Oklahoma's Gift shop is a living and breathing homage to the art of Kitsch ahd Colourful accessories. There's big items like lampshades and clocks hanging from the walls and ceiling, wallpapers and posters behind the main counter and dozens of shelves and tables stacked high with all kinds of weird and wonderful nonsense. One of my favourite items is the old American Popcorn Machine filled with jewellery and the desk overflowing with stationary, plastic moustaches and candy cigarettes.

Yelp
I hate 'gift shops', they usually mean that the person who you received your 'gift' from placed more importance on them having a nice day out looking at all the kitsch cards and shiny baubles rather than the actual end result- whilst nobody likes trawling the high street, I'm afraid that's were they keep all of the useful stuff and if your gift giver really loved you then they would have persevered. The fact that Oklahoma masquerades as an exception to the 'gift shops are shit' rule, thereby drawing in lots of unaware shoppers who where honestly trying to pick up something useful for somebody, only makes me madder as it means I'm twice as likely to get a Virgin Mary charm bracelet for my next birthday. Consumerism gone mad.

Yelp
This place is an alladin's cave of amazing and wonderous gifts. There is also a cafe attatched which serves yummy veggie food- I had a huge roast sweet potato with roast veggies and goats cheese- it was incrediable for only £4. And the hot chocolate is amazing. Back to the gift shop. So many amazing things to purchase. Jewellry, trinkets, special christmas things. A lot of stuff. The staff are very friendly indeed and will help you choose stuff. I was especially excited by the note books, and purchased two, £15 althogther. One of them is japanese, with an amazing floral pattern and a detailed japanese tube mao within. The other is cool and canvas. I love them. I love this place. Highly recommended. Quirky and fun, just like the city it is in.

Yelp
I ended up in Oklahoma today as a way of sheltering myself from the rain and ended up spending a good hour in here. I have to disagree with the former reviewer as this is a great gift shop and an even better cafe. After knocking back one of the best Mocha's I've ever had and chowing down on carrot cake and a choc chip cookie (ok, I was hungry) I spent 20 mins browsing the amazing selection of gifts in the shop, which looks like a cross between santa's grotto and a Hawaiian beach hut, if you can imagine. The choice of gifts is just amazing. There are cabinets filled with contemporary jewellery (many pieces that I've spotted on ASOS), V&A museum gifts, books, brollies, cards, sweets, ceramics, you name it. There's even a DVD hire section. And the best thing is items start at just £2.

Yelp
Leaving it last minute like I usually do, I was wandering round the Northern Quarter desperately trying to find inspiration for a friend's birthday present and accidently stumbled upon the Oklahoma Café its windows laden with all kinds of quirky gifts. Inside I quickly realised it's also a café, the clue was in the diners sat at tables eating cake! Although I had just eaten, I had a quick glimpse at the menu, noticing its all vegetarian, vegan fair, how lovely and tasty looking! But I had arrived on a mission to find presents and I was spoilt for choice. Look beyond the 'grow your own boyfriend' and 'make your own voodoo doll' kits and all that other stuff which I like to call tat, there was some truly inspired gift ideas here too. Recycled Japanese influenced sandwich bags, little body lotions in the shape of cupcakes and a beautiful cabinet full of sparkly trinkets and unique pieces of jewellery, I think I spent a good 30 minutes meandering through it all and came away a happy camper with birthday present in hand. I shall have to return when another birthday comes along or if I can find an excuse sooner with an empty stomach so I can sample the menu too.

Yelp
Wanting to show my brother and his girlfriend something other than the restaurants and bars of Manchester, we took them along to Oklahoma. After all, what screams Manchester more than this quirky boutique of gifts and home decorations? There's no longer a cafe, which is a bit of a shame, though it has made room for even more items and reduced the claustrophobic feeling which the space could often have if one too many people entered. Currently, they have a large Christmas sale on, which is perfect if you're someone who likes to stock up for the next festive season! The range of items has expanded to some fancy beard oils & accessories which are kept behind glass, and they have a lovely selection of jewelry. Presents from here always get a positive reaction, whether it's a model airplane kit or kitsch cat purse, so a great stop off if you're in need of something for someone special (or yourself!)

Yelp
De-freaking-lightful! The art of beautifully curated quirkiness is summed up when you leave the store thinking, "I never knew I needed a kewpie doll wearing a bunny suit made into a lamp... but I do... I really do." Oklahoma is overwhelmingly adorable. I haven't walked around a store and thought, "I NEED this!" to so many unneeded things in a very very long time. It's a step up from your usual knickknack & novelty store, where the fart joke tokens and chocolate cigars live alongside artful throw pillows, swanky stationary and the cutest collection of kawaii bento boxes that ever there were. From antique robots to posh matchstick boxes and quirky lamps - it's a treasure trove of gifts for the "hard to buy fors" and the "well, I don't know them that well but everyone likes a cheeky novelty mug right?ers". This is a secret Santa's dream. During my brief stint in Manchester, I wandered past this store a few times. The map print robe & journals had been calling to me, so I made a point to stop in before heading home to Edinburgh. I have to admit, though delightful, this store was sitting at a solid four stars before this evening - though they have an amazing eye for their products, the layout is a bit unusual. Instead of dedicated sections to each genre, they are arranged rather nilly willy around the store. I definitely would have picked up one of the bento boxes had they all been in one section but after weaving through the pre-Christmas crowds and finding boxes in every nook and cranny, I couldn't be bothered to go back to compare them all and left empty handed. The displays themselves are neat and tidy but FAR too packed for a place with so much footfall and you spend a lot of your time trying not to bump into people or displays. I had to pay way too much attention to what my purse might hit into to make it a lovely, non-chaotic shopping experience. But... Upon returning home, I was DELIGHTED to find they have a well stocked web store with free shipping! It's hard to find places that carry wonderful little tidbits (I like to include miniatures or clever cards in my letters home) so I will definitely be putting in an order some time soon. Alas, no kewpie doll lamp online, but we can still hope...

Yelp
I have come here a few times just simply to look round. They have some cool quirky handcrafted stuff from lampshades to jewellery but at a price.. A lot of it is heavily marked up, I mean even some of the flower pendants are £15 cheaper on the Xmas markets! This is a good place to get gift ideas though..they offer beautiful crockery, vintage games, creative lighting solutions, cushions, soap, coasters and card's... For the first time I actually went to buy something yesterday. A cute pair of foxy tweezers and a single coaster which cost £3.50!.my friend picked up a foxy teapot..this is when things turned chaotic. This place can get busy, particularly because the staff simply do not know what they are doing. This girl spent 15 minutes trying to find my friends teapot in the stock room..and she stopped to ask numerous staff..in the end she said "oh you can have this one because I can find the other's '" I asked if it could be discounted considering it was a gift and it came with no box and had had several grubby mitts touching it...she said no When I went to pay for my shizzle my card wouldn't work in their machine..this is when the interrogation began. " have you used your card today? " yes "do you live in Manchester?" Yes "oh maybe your card doesn't know its you" I'm sorry I will just 're introduce myself to my card!!! I have never been so insulted ..she might have well have just called me a thief. So yes pretty shop but over expensive with rude inexperienced , stupid staff who couldn't run a bath.

Laura F.

Yelp
I do like Oklahoma. It's a good shop for small trinkets, knick-knacks and 'stocking fillers' (sorry for the Xmas mention in September) and they have an excellent range of greeting cards for every occasion! It's very small and is usually always busy, so navigating around is difficult, but if you're the type that loves to browse and doesn't get too flustered when there's loads of people around, then it's worth a look.

Laura N.

Yelp
Think this gift shop/coffee stop/eatery/wi-fi den has a random name? Just wait until you step inside... the name will be the last thing on your mind as your senses are simultaneously hit with funky Earth-themed Japanese lanterns, a CD/DVD swap, a strong coffee-roasting smell and gangsta' rap (followed by Kanye and MJ). Trust me, the name Oklahoma is the least random part of this... um... space. And I kind of adore it. First, the gift section is the perfect place to go for terrible shoppers like myself who have absolutely no clue what to buy someone. You can't go wrong with something eclectic and funky as while the items on offer are all quite kitsch, they are certainly not in the useless/junk department. The food was beautiful and I was tempted from a baked sweet potato by a Moroccan bean wrap and a bowl of carrot, lime and coconut soup. Plus, who doesn't love some big tables with free wi-fi? Even if your chair does happen to be a giant hand?

Yelp
Oklahoma has ruined me. I wonder if many a story has started with that phrase. Doubtless the tellers would be referring to the American state as opposed to a quirky, unique, adorable little bare-brick walled mistmatch-decorated labyrinth of awe-inspiring gifts and delicious veggie food. I'd read about this place on Yelp, and already I decided I was in lust with it based solely on the descriptions from the lovely likes of Bex, Rebecca, Sam et al. But I have no sense of direction, loves, I couldn't *find* it. I've probably mentioned before that the Northern Quarter should come with its own map, simply due to the amount of times I've walked around and realised something was right next to something else when I'd previously traversed about eight streets to get to it from the other place. If that makes sense. It's a grid of a thousand bewilderments. When I finally did find Oklahoma, like most things you feel an instant connection with, it was completely by accident. We headed to what Liverpool-dweller friend described as: "That shop I love." There it was. Winding aisles of the strangest, most random, most incredibly useful gifts you've ever encountered. No rhyme, no reason, no particular order, just brilliant stuff. It's the perfect place to drop into for people who are annoying to buy for. Baby onesies with beautiful prints nestle alongside novelty tea towels, hilarious greeting cards share shelves with vintage lunchboxes... if I described everything it sold, I'd be here all day. If I described all the food it serves in the cute corner café, I'd soon be doing my whole Meg Ryan I'll-have-what-she's-having thing. As I type (gotta love that free wifi) I've just polished off a baked sweet potato full of puy lentils cooked with red onion marmalade and a side of cottage cheese. This is why it's ruined me. It's rendered all other jacket spuds obsolete. And I know an eatery with a bottle of sweet chilli sauce atop every table is my kind of joint. It goes with practically everything savoury on their menu. Add to that the sheer randomness of the furniture - chairs shaped like hands, ornate parasols atop 1950s-esque breakfast bars - and you've pretty much got Northern Quarter heaven. You won't even miss the meat. You can get everything from breakfast to a light snack to a proper dinner here, and it's indescribable. I love it. If there was one place that sums up the true spirit of the area in which it resides, it's Oklahoma. Not the state! How many times? *Sigh*

Yelp
Oklahoma doesn't disappoint. After having stalked Emma-Louise's lists for places to try in Manc, I had this on the short list of places to try. We got to Manc hungover and exhausted, so after a massive lunch at Dough and a 2 hour nap, I was in dire need of a shot or two of espresso to perk me up for a night out. Conveniently, Oklahoma was just around the corner from the hotel and we ducked in for a cup of the good stuff. I was highly entertained by the sight that greeted me. The place was stocked floor to ceiling with all sorts of odd and interesting things, delicious looking candies, and dvds and artwork that I had strange impulses to buy. I also quite like the decor style which looked like someone had raided an attic or garage sale to find enough tables and chairs that had absolutely nothing in common with each other. The coffee was up to scratch, and the double espresso went down a treat. I was also pleased to get a free filter coffee that was almost as good as Monmouth, a compliment I don't give lightly. The chocolate cake could have been a bit more moist, but the dark bitter chocolate complemented the coffee quite well. I'll be back, and the proximity to Dough (it's right across the street) makes it a winning combination!

Jenni D.

Yelp
Tucked away in the corner of High Street, behind two panelled doors you'll find an aladdins cave of treats. This cafe-cum-gift shop is filled with the best presents, so I'm pretty sure you won't come out empty handed. The folks at Oklahoma are great fun too. Crazy, quirky - are probably labels that they'd hate to be called - but they're great fun and make Oklahoma what it is. Don't come to Manchester without paying them a visit!

Christopher B.

Yelp
I very much enjoyed my brief stop at Oklahoma. A small town vegan like me can't help but feel a bit spoiled in a place where I can purchase a vegan cake and a vegan shake, both of which were delicious and well priced (by which I mean cheap!) I found Oklahoma to be very welcoming with a really nice atmosphere. If I were based in Manchester I think it is a place where I'd soon become a regular.

Emily B.

Yelp
I popped along here for a hot drink and a slice of cake; I perused the shop but didn't buy anything, although I could happily have frittered away large sums of money buying delightful quirky tat. I went for a 'London Fog', which is an Earl Grey tea latte with vanilla syrup. You don't get a huge amount but as it's quite sweet this didn't really bother me. I thought it was delicious and something a bit different for me. My boyfriend had a latte which he enjoyed. We shared a slice of Oreo cake which was lovely - the cake was dense and not at all dry. I didn't finish it but that's not surprising after a meal at Solita! Overall I thought this was a lovely little place and I'll head back soon.

Rebecca D.

Yelp
That's right, not only does this tardis-like venue house a kick-ass giftshop, it also houses a really lovely café serving delicious smoothies, tasty baked sweet potatoes, lush cakes and the best fresh-squeezed lemonade I have ever had. Oklahoma is one of those cafes where you meet friends at noon, planning to go somewhere else, but then you get comfy and keep ordering more stuff, until one of you realise it's getting dark outside and you've been there for six hours. And you know what, it doesn't matter. In those six hours you've perused the film club shelves; a wall of lesser-known titles and arthouse flicks that you can rent if you join their film club. You've also found out that occasionally they do film screenings and events in the basement, and you and your mates have resolved to definitely attend the next one. At some point in those six hours, you'll have visited the unisex loo, found its chalkboard and magnetic letters really amusing, and destroyed someone's insightful comment to write the word 'poo', then come back and told your friend how funny you are. Of course, no accidental six-hour sit-in is complete without a trip to the Oklahoma gift shop, as big as the café itself and just as original and fun. It's an Aladdin's cave of quirk and kook. Of course, the main thing about the café is the food; I particularly like their baked sweet potato smothered with vege curry and cheddar, with a big ol' dollop of mango chutney. They also offer a mean vege chilli, a soupd of the day and a wide range of sandwiches, which they will heat up if you wish. On a cold winter's day, Oklahoma is perfect for chasing away the blues with a mocha and a baked sweet spud. Food is priced £3-£6, and the portions are really generous. The drinks are great too, their range of herbal teas really impressed Tea Snob Friend and I cannot get enough of the lemonade. Freshly squeezed to order, it's just ice, lemon, sugar and water, and it's delicious. Quite the drink for a hot day, well worth the £3. This is a lovely little café with a great atmosphere and lovely staff. It just goes to show that harsh fluorescent lighting and the exploitation of disenfranchised people might make you rich, Mr Starbuck, but it'll never make you as happy as a place like Oklahoma.

Toby S.

Yelp
Hokay So! Only had a mooch about the shop on this one, got no idea about the foodage cafe bit. If, you're late 20's to general 30's this place will just re-live memories of younger days, from the deep recesses of your brain you will go "I remember that... and that, ooo I had one of those" then you'll realise you're talking out loud and people are staring at you and you should probably stop. Whether it's toys, sweets, games, just random things from the 80's 'early' 90's, you'll come across stuff that just makes you think "I haven't seen that in years!" Worth a punt for those things you didn't realise you were looking for, or if you just need a random gift for someone but not sure what.

Alfie B.

Yelp
Oklahoma is a trendy cafe, specializing in organic veggie and vegan food. Along with a quirky gift shop, this a cosy spot to spend a rainy afternoon in the Northern Quarter. The toasties and wraps are delicious, but it's the excellent organic soups that kept us coming back for more. It also serves a great cup of organic fair trade coffee to your specification. They also do great freshly squeezed fruit juices, similarly prepared to your spec. The décor is quirky, with open beams and brick walls, mismatched furniture and various nick-knacks and random ornaments. It even smells organic. Its absolutely the kind of place where you can pop in to read the paper and end up staying all afternoon, and the range of food and drinks suit any time of day. I agree its definitely one of the best places in the area, its only a shame its not open in the evenings and doesn't serve alcohol.

Sam R.

Yelp
I absolutely love this place. I've visited the gift shop a few times and have always wanted to check out the café too. Finally, today, I got to go. I'm sure I'll be going back soon as well. The décor of this place is amazing, half kitsch and half student common room, it's relaxing and made me feel right at home straight away. The staff are all friendly and quirky. Everything about this café works. My girlfriend decided to get a mozzarella, tomato and rocket salad. I went for the classic brie sandwich with pea soup combination. It didn't really go together, but they only had brie sandwiches left as it was the end of the day. My food was warm and filling, my girlfriend's was lean and tasty. To drink I chose a cola ice cream floater thing. This drink was so rich I couldn't even finish it. I'm not sure I really liked it, but there were enough delicious-looking milkshakes on the menu to make me want to go back and try another. I love everything about Oklahoma - the décor, food, staff and even the DVD club. Go check it out.

Yelp
Oklahoma is a true Aladdin's cave of cute little trinkets, beautiful handmade jewellery and downright tat - and is a great place to spend an hour or so on a rainy Saturday afternoon. They've also been known to sell bedding which is designed like a Twister mat, fake moustaches and packets of popping candy - all things which I certainly don't need, but which I've jumped up and down with excitement when I've seen them being sold anyway! The shop also houses a really nice little café, although it can be a little overpriced at times. Take their baked potatoes for example - yes, they're cooked to perfection, and filled to bursting point with yummy vegetarian fillings, but at £6 per portion, you can't help baulking slightly at the price (and, in the case of one of my friends, asking the waitress rather pointedly if they're made of gold). At times, the service there can also be slightly stand offish - lord know I've yet to meet anyone who is the biggest fan of a surly waitress slamming their scrambled eggs and toast down in front of them when they're suffering from a cracking hangover. It would be great if the managers there could address this, as this just tends to detract attention away from all of the lovely elements of what should be the best independent café in the city. Still, Oklahoma is a lovely little place, and I've yet to a better coffee shop in which I can sit, sip a spiced apple cider and just watch the world go by whilst listening to a great range of music. Oh, and its toilets has magnetic graffiti too! Always a bonus.

Qype User (hayjan…)

Yelp
I really want to give Oklahoma five stars, and I would, were it not for the VERY strange, pounding music they were playing in the cafe during our visit - not really what you want to listen to whilst resting one's feet after a busy day of wandering! Luckily the cheesy croissant, Oreo milkshake and chocolate orange cheesecake brownie totally made up for the odd soundtrack - mmmmmm (and, YIKES, I've been eating a lot of crap recently!) As well as the treat-filled cafe, Oklahoma also houses a quirky little gift shop, and I was chuffed to nab a set of Rob Ryan giftcards in the sale for a mere fiver. BARGAIN!

Qype User (lunala…)

Yelp
Love the shop, Kitch, retro, plastic galore in here! Shop at Oklahoma quite a lot especially for friend's birthdays and stocking fillers at Christmas. One thing that I've found consistently is that the shop staff are really rude and unfriendly (whether you're spending 50p or £50 and no matter how many pleases and thank yous you throw at them) which kind of dampens the whole experience of shopping in such a bright and fun themed place. We have a bet to see who can get them to break a smile when we go in the pot's still mounting. The cafe serves a range of snacks and sweet treats and is reasonably priced. The recycled plastic furniture's lovely and adds to the quirkiness of this place. The staff in the open kitchen are lovely however. There's toys that will bring memories of your childhood and cheeky gifts and gizmos. The sweets which are left out should be avoided after what I saw. Great for novelty factor and unusual finds. The Jackie Brazil jewellery and allsorts bangles are my personal favourites as well as the eclectic range of greetings cards and wrapping papers.

Qype User (Franci…)

Yelp
If you're stuck for a present idea, Oklahoma is the place to go! Packed with everything from fortune telling fish and spud guns to fruity lip balms, brightly coloured homeware and quality handmade jewellery, I nearly always pick up something distinctive, quirky and fun. They have some great cards and wrapping paper too, so it's a bit of a one-stop shop! Aside from the main shop area, Oklahoma has its own record store and cult DVD library, which is perfect if your local video shop doesn't share your taste in film! There is also a café, selling everything from herbal tea and cakes to sandwiches and soup. I've only ever had a hot chocolate there, but it was a good 'un!

Qype User (cal197…)

Yelp
I love this place. It takes you back to your childhood, if you were born circa 1978. It combines a cafe section, gift shop and record store. Set back from the main shopping area of the city, in the very 'trendy' Northern Qtr, Oklahoma is the sort of place you can lounge around in for hours on end. They have a good selection of food, if a little inflated on the price. And whilst the service is good, the staff could be a little more 'enthusiastic,' but then this might be the whole point of the laid back, pop in for a cuppa and a browse setup they are trying to promote. Whilst I haven't checked out their record store, I guess that would be self explanatory, it makes for a good live jukebox whilst you go about your business. But the best bit is the shop, selling everything from kitsche to novelty items to sweets and treats which I as a kid use to buy on the way home from school. Great fun. Get yourself along and grab a smoothie. Yum

Qype User (emmawo…)

Yelp
A great little treasure trove of a shop that sells mostly useless but lovely items that are great for gifts and stocking fillers. From old fashioned kids toys to kitchy birthday cards, this shop has plenty of variety and is not overly expensive. The shop also sells rare DVDs and has a nice cafe attached which has great organic and vegetarian options. The only down sides to this shop are that is is slightly off the beaten path so newcomers to Manchester may miss it and I also was not too keen on the freeform jazz music playing in the background.

Qype User (charlo…)

Yelp
Oklahoma is a pandora's box of....stuff. There's no better way to describe it. On one side, there is the shop housing everything from toys you'd forgotten even existed, trinkets, crazy card games, joke toys and presents, ornaments and general knick-knack and on the other, a fair-trade cafe with fab coffee, food and freshly-squeezed juice. Although the service was a little slow when I last went (Sunday morning- probably nursing bad heads from the night before), I couldn't fault it's alternative decor and selection of snacks. Sandwiched between the counter and the shop rests a wall of interesting world cinema and documentary DVDs which can be borrowed once you join their rental club. The decor is a bit of this and a bit of that which seems to somehow fuse easily and allow you to feel at home whatever your tastes (hey, even my parents liked it!!)

Qype User (cherry…)

Yelp
Oklahoma is one of those gimmicky bright stores, with hundreds of little cheap tatty bits that you just know you want to take home because it will make someone laugh, then as soon as its out of the packet you regret spending £3 on a grow your own therapist doll. This is a great store for stocking fillers of if you are growing a gift for someone who has a sense of humour On the right is a cafe - I had a potato here with hummus and vegetables (it is a veggie cafe). It was nice, but not cheap. I also found the service so-so - maybe I am not enough of a cool chick in my smart work clothes, but I even found the waitress a little rude 'get your own knife and fork'. For that reason I wouldn't necessarily eat there again but I would take a friend there to have a look at the goods. May I recommend China town gift stores if you are interested in little plastic things for a cheaper price!

Yelp
Being from Oklahoma, my interest in a cafe that shares my state's namesake in the middle of the United Kingdom was certainly high. Instead of the rolling hills and barren landscapes, you have fresh coffee with inventive ingredients. (one was a mocha mixed with oranges). The breakfast was delicious, but a tad bit pricey. If I lived in Manchester, I would certainly be pillaging their rental section. Quite a few good movie selections If I did have a criticism, it would be the people that worked there. Cliquish would personify it well. They remained mostly in their bubbles and weren't too welcoming. It's as if they knew their establishment was cool and remained in their own little indie worlds. All in all, I recommend it for the coffee, not the company.

Yelp
3 words: Freshly. Squeezed. OJ. Okay, maybe that's 4 words, but you get the idea. Half cafe, half bizarre toy store, it's one of the best places in M'cr to sip with friends and plot world domination. x

Yelp
If you've never been to the Northern Quarter before, head to Oklahoma and see the place summed up in a nutshell. Part quirky gift-shop, part cafe and part DVD exchange, Oklahoma offers all the orchestrated oddities of the area, crammed into a single room. That said, I love this little place. You can pop in for a sandwich and leave with an umbrella shaped like Marilyn Munroe without even realizing it. The shop side is great for gifts, especially when buying for someone you don't know very well (there is a great collection of joke and novelty gifts which are always safe). They also stock some interesting jewellery and collectors items. I recently got my boyfriend a little tin robot called 'Boris' which came in a very pleasing cardboard box . The back wall is lined with DVDs to rent or swap and there are some great finds in there. You can join the rental club and take out several at a time, or swap with others who are part of the scheme. The cafe offers a nice selection of sandwiches, wraps, breakfasts; cakes and light meals (try the baked sweet potato with chilli). They also have some great teas, smoothies and milkshakes (the birthday special is my favourite). The seating are is crammed into the shop and so can be a little cramped, but the mish-mash of recycled furniture and Indian umbrellas make for cosy seating. The place is definitely worth a look. Even if you're not hungry and just popping in to see what the big deal is, you'll find yourself tucking into a bowl of granola or filling up a basket of trinkets before you can say Oklahoma.

Yelp
If you are looking for a random, quirky present the Gift Shop in Oklahoma is great. Being my typical disorganised self I've popped in on my lunch break and found last minute presents on a number of occasions. Attached is a cafe which I'm still yet to try but will definately be back, the food looks delicious!

Yelp
For a fair-trade vegetarian restaurant which is also half of a funky shop, it doesn't seem to regard hygiene of a very high standard. Flies surround the toilet and the tables are sticky. Food is fair and has a varied menu.

Yelp
Ate here a few times while staying in Manc. As others have mentioned, the baked spuds are excellent - especially the sweet potato. The curry topping is totally deluxe. It's also a great cosy spot to sit, drink tea and watch the world go by. I also like their choice in music - fun 80s, blondie etc. all adds up to being a nice place to be.

Yelp
Given previous high marks, I was a bit disappointed. My breakfast was not good at all, soggy toast and scrambled eggs that were mediocre at best. The charming atmosphere was all that saved it from a lower rating.

Yelp
It's great fun but not the best place to go to if you're feeling a bit stressed out. This is mainly because it's pretty noisy what with all that smoothie making and also it's very small and cramped so you nearly always end up being shoved in the back while you drink your hot chocolate. On the other hand, though, the hot chocolate (Fairtrade, if you're interested in that sort of thing) is very tasty and they also do the best carrot cake in the city centre. If only their chocolate cake was as good I might have added another star.

Yelp
Oh my god, this is my most fave shop in manchester. They do the quirkiest most beautiful ornate gifts. they also have a cafe where they dp the best brie and cranberry toasties! None of the plates match and its very retrothats what adds to the uniqueness!

Yelp
Cheryls i think you and me are on the same wavelength as i agree i could die happily with a slice of their carrot cake (i love a good carrot cake) but the best thing about this place is the shop its great for buying gifts for people when you want to get something silly quirky or for a bit of nostalgia.

Yelp
This is a little gem of a place which used to be more shop than cafe, but as the owners realised their strengths it has become more cafe than shop. The shop part however, stills sells some quirky and unique gifts for those who have everything. The cafe is a lovely, if not a little cramped, and has outside seating which is the best on a rare Mancunian sunny day. They serve jacket potatoes and yummy cakes. They also sell my favourite ginger beer, and the servers are always friendly. It is placed on the edge of the Northern quarter and provides great relief from the busy high street.

Yelp
Lots of retro and kitsch tat on sale here, good for small gifts and birthday presents. Good for a browse though and there is a cafe if you need a break from shopping.

Yelp
Lovely ambiance. Quinoa salad, thai peanut soup, grilled cheese sandwiches. Just your down home food served up with a smile. I went with one of my friends while they were on tour through Manchester last week and she liked the food too. My latte could have been a bit warmer, but we had a nice, sunny spot by the window so it was certainly warm enough.

Yelp
It took me a while to discover this amazing little hub of oh so many delights. I could spend hours dotting between the cafe (sampling the very tasty, home made and always healthy scran), the arthouse dvd rental wall (boasting such a rare filmic collection you would be hard-pushed to find elsewhere) and of course the santa's grotto of a shop which is full of the most unusual and fun trinkets and retro gadgets you thought you had forgotten about...the prices range from downright outrageous to very moderate and so there is clearly something here for everyone. When shopping for a special little gift for someone I always pop in to Oklahoma first and often find that I need not visit anywhere else. After a hard day's shopping plop your bahookie down on one of the cosy chairs, order a hot choc and lap up the kooky atmosphere in this happy-go-crazy cafe come pandora's box of trinket heaven!

Yelp
If you're stuck for a present idea, and you come out of HERE without one, then you truly are screwed. There is SO much stuff in here, you WILL find something to buy. And a good cafe. Not a GREAT one, but good.

Yelp
They sell popping candy! A place to rummage amongst the fairy lights, grow your own magic garden kits, wind-up plastic nuns, kitsch kitchen utensils, sweet shaped buttons, light switch stickers, hammers covered in flowers... and did I mention the popping candy? The shop is a great place to pick up gifts and suits all budgets of 50p upwards - whenever there's a birthday coming up I pop in, and i've never been lost for choices. The cafe manages to have all the charm of the shop without feeling too chaotic. They have a selection of wraps and sandwiches but I always go for the soup - an apple, pumpkin & ginger one was amazing. Food is all around £2-4, and they have sweet cakey treats for less. Drinks wise, they have coffee, a variety of teas, freshly squeezed OJ and a range of traditional soft drinks (cloudy lemonade, root beer, etc) and juices. Some of the tables are made out of recycled wellies, some of the chairs are shaped like a giant hand (for those who want to feel like Thumbelina for half an hour) - it's a mish mash of colours, and it works. They also have a selection of DVDs to rent, with some hard to find arthouse films and cult classics. WC: The toilet is behind a giant silver door (it's unisex) and the last time I went there was a chalk board in there and some magnetic poetry...should you feel the need.

Yelp
Terrible food, fantastic gift shop. A friend and I stopped here for lunch. The vegan options are very limited so I settled for the carrot and coriander soup, which was watery and tasteless cost near £5 too! Slightly improved when doused with salt from the table! Service was slow too my friend had her meal a full five minutes before my bowl of soup was delivered. I wouldn't eat here again, but the adjoining gift shop is well worth a visit on its own.

Yelp
This place is a great, qurky treasure chest, and has become my default 'present buying' shop in Manchester because you're guaranteed to pick up something unusual and interesting here. It's not a huge place, but the shelves are packed to the rafters; make sure you take the time to check out all the nocks and crannies! They recently introdcued a great 'retro' pic n mix sweets section which is great fun. The shop also incorperates a nice little cafe.
