Google
This is one of my absolute favorite Route 66 museums. We visit it everytime we come out west. It is full of Route 66 history and has a great gift shop. It is a self guided walking tour that could take as little as 30 minutes up to several hours depending on your pace. I highly recommend visiting.

Rick W.

Google
Visited on 6.9.2025. Fantastic Museum that chronicles the Conception, the Glory years, the Decomissioning, the Revival and the Preservation of Route 66. This particular Museum has some of the best exhibits compared to others I have seen during my travels. BRAVO and KUDOS to the staff for preserving this part of America's heritage.

Google
The Oklahoma Route 66 Museum in Clinton is one of the nicest on the entire route. They have a great number of displays set up depicting life on 66 in different decades. They also have a great gift shop and a road side diner set up. Super nice people with great information.

Google
We were on a road trip along I-40 and decided to stop here. We had a big uhaul with us, and they have pull-through parking out front for trailers and such which was nice. We went through it fairly quickly (half an hour) since we needed to get back on the road, but there’s so much to look at, I think you could spend an hour or so if you wanted! Super fun, retro, and lots of history!

Joe H.

Google
Great little museum, tells the tale of 66 through the decades. Great info and some really cool car displays as well as items from those decades. If you have time, stop by.

Mark R. G.

Google
Definitely worth the stop. Nice little museum with a lot of information and history about Route 66. A few great cars, a lot of dioramas, and a ton of nostalgia. Very fun. The two ladies overseeing the museum the day we stopped in were very friendly, kind, and cordial. We arrived just 20 minutes before the museum was to close but they allowed us in anyway and they patiently waited for us to take our time and go through the museum at our own pace. Very much appreciated. Fun little gift/souvenir shop too. Again, definitely worth the stop.

Google

Yelp
What a great spot! It was about an hour and 15 minute drive from Oklahoma City. I had googled things to see in Oklahoma while driving through for a quick road trip. Admission was $7, and it was worth the drive. I grew up in St. Louis along route 66 so I could relate to a lot of this history. This museum brings up so many good memories and makes you feel very nostalgic. It was so interesting. They break up the history of Route 66 by the decade starting in the 1920s. This museum focuses mostly on Oklahoma's history of Route 66, but they do bring up things from all of the other states involved along the way. After seeing so many of the Route 66 sites in Oklahoma, it makes me so badly want to drive from Chicago to Santa Monica! Maybe I will one day.

Yelp
Loved this museum but didn't have time to tour it. Went in and bought souvenirs and stretched our legs. Cool old diner display next to it. Lots of history and nostalgia.
google avatar

Winnie C.

Yelp
The museum has already closed by the time we arrived, but there's still plenty to see that we didn't feel like we wasted a trip there. Plenty of posters for things that look interesting nearby and we ended up visiting some of them.

Yelp
A MUST See!! A true step back in time. We made a road trip on our way from AZ to OK. Little did we know that along the way we would see many of the highlights featured in the museum. Take the time and see this hidden gem.

Yelp
Well done museum tracing Route 66 through the decades of the 1920s to present day. As you enter each room the displays are clear and informative, with music of that aera playing in the background. As you may know, Route 66 goes from Chicago to Los Angeles. One of the stops along the way is Clinton, OK, so that is why this museum is here. The vibrant colors and lights were appealing to me and certainly kept my attention. My group stopped to take several photos along the way like they were taking a trip down memory lane.
google avatar

John M.

Yelp
A nice nostalgic walk down memory lane! They also have a very nice assortment of mementos. I bought a Route 66 road sign that looks like an old neon sign, but is lit by LEDs. Staff was very helpful in selecting which of the 4 different versions of the sign I would buy. After walking and reading the headlines from the late 1920s thru the development of the Interstate Highways, I was struck by all the problems that we, the people of this fine country, have endured over all those decades; the Great Depression, WW1, WW2, Vietnam, and on and on to today. I wondered if we could all just take a breath and perhaps lower the volume of our arguing about our differences and every now and then, really try to consider listening to what the other side is saying, I think somehow we will endure and eventually overcome our current dismal condition of hate and distrust that permeates all of our lives.

Yelp
This is a great museum and well thought out. It's laid out by decades and there's quite a bit to see in each decade. There's a self-guided audio tour in each room, music, and plaques to read. It goes through the whole history of the road from its inception to its decommissioning. We spent just over 2 hours there and felt like we saw everything.

Ava S.

Yelp
Stopped by on our way through Oklahoma along Route 66. Such a cute little museum, we loved the way it was set up with the little mock town. Things were grouped very well. The Route 66 mural was worth the 5 dollars alone! A little weird smelling in some spots, but hey, that's the nature of antiques. Three museums included in such a good price, well worth the stop. So many cute photo ops too!
google avatar

Kurtis S.

Yelp
Great museum, well worth the $26 for my wife and I and 3 boys. Really a must see if traveling Route 66 to learn all the history and such. Great exhibits. Nice gift shop. Clean restrooms. Plan on spending 30-90 minutes here. Here's a video of our visit. https://youtu.be/gexLrgJ57Go

Yelp
I haven't really stopped at a lot of museums on Route 66, and this was the farthest I drove from St. Louis on my 2nd leg of the Mother Road trip. But it was more than worth it. Clinton is about an hour west of OKC, and this was worth driving out that far. Starting with the outside of the museum, there are a few cool things to look at such as old-school box diner, classic cars as well as photos of landmarks all over the main route (there was even a huge photo of the Wildey Theatre from my hometown of Edwardsville!). Then you go inside, and you go in the gift shop and tell them you want a tour. I think it was $8 dollars or something like that, which was reasonable. I'm not gonna give away that much about the museum, as I don't like to be a spoiler. But it tells the full story of the Mother Road, detailing its rise and fall...to rise again. Highlights a lot of personalities and landmarks on Route 66. A lot of pop culture is incorporated here as well. All of that should be the dealbreaker. And that's not all... Regretfully, I spent over $100 at the gift shop. I'll be clear...this was probably the best selection of Route 66 souvenirs so far on my journey. Books, collectibles, apparel, you name it. If there's something you collect, yes they probably have it! But it felt good supporting a great institution so I was happy and I'm sure the staff was too. I heard this is a lot better than the National Route 66 Museum up the road (in Elk City). I don't know, since I haven't ventured there yet. But definitely make this a must-stop on your Route 66 journey!
google avatar

Daniel G.

Yelp
I must of experience the same overzealous lady working that day also. We walked in to buy something from the gift shop only and she wanted to immediately charge us money. We were doing the Route 66 passport and simply just wanted it stamped and buy a souvenir which we did but as soon as I told her that she literally threw the book back at my 10 year old son. Her attitude changed when I told her my youngest daughter with disabilities was having a meltdown and was in the car with my wife do to doing 3 museums already. I'm not sure if I would want to come back after this warm welcome from this lady.

Dustin K.

Yelp
Cute museum! If you have time for a quick stop to stretch your legs, come here! Great gifts and lots of memorabilia!
google avatar

Colleene B.

Yelp
What a neat museum. We've been on Route 66 since Illinois and this was by far the neatest stop. It was really cool to see lots of the other places we've been on the walls in stunning acrylic covered photographs. The kids (ages 5 and 8) were totally engaged with the help of a scavenger hunt sheet. Be sure to ask for it at the front desk!! Lots of great souvenir options, clean restrooms, friendly staff. We loved it!!

Yelp
One of the best Route 66 Museums on the Mother Road and a must visit for any traveler going through this long journey! I was thrilled that we stopped and hung out for an hour before making our way over to Texas. This museum is beautifully crafted, fun, colorful, and filled with relics from the past. Admission is $5 but it is certainly worth it for the experience to walk (not drive) through history. The museum is laid out in different sections- each with its own accompanying song that puts you in the road trip mood. Through the path, you learn about the beginnings of Route 66, the changes it went through, shout outs to some of the major attractions, and conclusions with where its legacy goes now in Santa Monica. There are lots of photos to see and descriptions that really take you back in time when America was a little more rustic. There is a lot to experience at this museum, so it will be helpful to carve out at least an hour for your visit. Any attempt to do less and you're really rushing through some great exhibits. Once you are done, you can enjoy the gift shop that boasts numerous plates and swag to appease any individual. Bring your cameras here for the large Route 66 sign as well as a "Welcome to Oklahoma" sign if you didn't manage to get one before. Parking is available in a private lot.

Yelp
Very professionally done museum with friendly, kind volunteers. Great place to spend some time stepping back in Route 66 history.

Gloria L.

Yelp
The overzealous volunteer working on June 3, 2023 made my dad and I feel very unwelcome at this museum. As soon as he entered she kept telling him about the price, and when I entered a minute later, she walked me over to show us the posted price (knew what the price was I didn't ask for this), as we were just in the lobby for 30 seconds and looking around and taking photos before going to the ticket counter and entering the museum. She claimed it was policy that we were not allowed to be even in the lobby area without paying the entry fee which I find very hard to believe because there was a double door that she lead me into to view the real museum part. I've never been into a place where I couldn't even be in the lobby if there was no ticket booth before that area. If it truly is policy, there should be a sign up that you can't take photos until after you are done with the tour. We did not feel welcome to be there. This was a blight on my dad's Route 66 trip and he decided not to do the museum. We are people of color, not sure if that had anything to do with the way we were treated. The museum itself was well done, with music from the decade matching each room, though very brief. Saw it in about 20 minutes and people were passing me up. I think 30 minutes is a good amount of time there.

Yelp
It's the age of Covid-19, in the hellscape that's pandemic America. So my wife and daughter said, "You know what we need? A road trip." We not only embarked on an epic 4,700 road trip through dystopian America, but we stopped at a museum dedicated to road trips. Fun exhibits that capture the history of the storied route. And there's a massive gift shop because, well, it's a Route 66 museum. In truth, well done. Completely worth the stop. In fact, it was so good that I came back and wrote a second review. Either that or I just forgot that I wrote a review earlier. I guess it's time for my meds.
google avatar

Nacho S.

Yelp
Found this accidentally as we drove on I-40. We loved it! It certainly was more than meets the eye. If you like history or the movie Cars, you'll love this place.
google avatar

John T.

Yelp
Smaller museum, very well done. Tells the story of Route 66 from the driving need for a cross country route through today with historic artifacts, pictures, videos. Each era has its own room with period music accompanying the well chosen exhibits. Plan on about an hour, and make sure you read the newspaper headlines the museum designers selected. (The Oklahoma take on the Woodstock Festival was very interesting!) This was the only Route 66 museum we visited; its size and scope were perfect, and the price was right.

Tomas R.

Yelp
Jordan the Lion did a video on You Tube while visiting the museum. In the video is a description that says its a 1966 Chevrolet Camaro. But it's actually a 1969.
google avatar

James M.

Yelp
This was a great stop on Route 66. Photos show a lot of collectibles, but it is more a history of the route. Why, when, the advent and need of gas stations, motels, cafes, entertainment, hitchhiking, trucking, shipping etc. Really interesting and well set up. Each room is a decade from 1930s. Very clean and organized. There is a gift shop for those wanting such things. Inexpensive and could have actually spent more time there than I did. Highly recommended as a distraction from the road.
google avatar

Crystal C.

Yelp
I loved this stop along Route 66!! I have been to many stops along the classic highway and this is by far one of the better museums. Divided by the decades you can walk through the entire history of the highway, those who traveled it, what songs were popular, the cost of living through each decade and so much more. In the final exhibit you can see where many of the most iconic stops rest now, some in a state of disrepair others still alive and going. It is a full circle view of such an amazing part of history!
google avatar

Lynell S.

Yelp
My sister, my daughter, granddaughter and I visited the museum to celebrate my 62nd birthday. I has a blast. It was like a trip down memory lane. The music was great, the displays were awesome and we learned a lot. The gift shop had a large variety of items and were reasonably priced. It was worth the ride from Texas in the rain!
google avatar

Christine F.

Yelp
There are a lot of museums on this road, but this summed up the experience well and put much of this trip into good historical context. The displays are well organized and engaging. Many of the displays showed the deep affection that so many people share for this road. Very touching.
google avatar

Steve S.

Yelp
Honestly I don't think they could do a better job. The museum was super clean, laid out well with tons of cool things to look at. The movie was informative and very well done. A lot of thought went into this museum and it is obviously well cared for. The price ($7) was a bargain. Well done, Clinton, OK!
google avatar

Rock R.

Yelp
Cool museum. Takes you through the decades and has a great atmosphere. A must see for anyone traveling Route 66.
google avatar

Anne Marie P.

Yelp
Oklahoma is sure proud of their piece of Route 66! A well thought out and executed collection of historical data, artifacts and nostalgia, this is a gem of a stopover. A series of rooms that divides things up by decade, you learn about culture and OK history. I loved the buttons that you can press which would prompt music of that era. The lobby features a gift shop filled with themed clothing, decor and other giftables. Something for everyone here. Great place to stretch and learn about the land.
google avatar

Jen S.

Yelp
Came here in late May as a thruway on our cross country trip. It's a must see if you're in the area, especially if you're in out-of-the-loop East coaster. The stories of Rt. 66 are always so amazing. This place has a GREAT collection of items that were once along the way and there are also 'scenes' of what thing would have looked like on the road (for example, a gas station, a loaded truck, a diner). Lots of great information. The staff are EXCELLENT. Really, you should go!
google avatar

Rudi Q.

Yelp
Enjoyable and informative museum.Very interesting history behind America's mother road. Admission is only $5! Great gift shop. Recommended, only a short drive from okc
google avatar

Kelly A.

Yelp
This a neat little stop! Admission is very reasonable to justify a stop if you need to stretch your legs and learn about the famous Route 66! Has some interactive parts of the walk through. My boys are 10 and 7 and really had a good time and thought the articles from the 30's and 50's were pretty awesome!! Gift store had some neat signs and other trinkets. Some cheap items that will make the kiddos happy and not break the bank!

John B.

Yelp
What a cute Museum, I loved walking back in time. In the lobby they have I believe a 1962 Chevy 2 door that brings me back to my High School years. It was a wonderful walk back in time. The exhibits were well done and I loved reading about the various rooms. Well worth the break from driving. Outside they have an old gas truck and recreated a dinner from the 50's - 60's you can look in at.
google avatar

Wayne E.

Yelp
As cheesy things to do as a tourist go, this is a pretty fun diversion from the otherwise desolate, flat, and hot stretch of road that traverse the state of Oklahoma. This museum celebrates and educates on the history of route 66 with a ton of memorabilia, photographs, and educational kiosk showing you the construction, hey days and demise of the famous route 66. You will appreciate the break in the action, learn something fun, have a coke, and be ready and on your way in about an hour....or two if you really take your time.
google avatar

Cornelis T.

Yelp
Fun little museum, a modern route 66 tourist atraction done right! It wasn't as informative as a museum should be imo but this was a really cool stop! All of the rooms were decorated with care! Gift shop was pretty great to score some discounted items!
google avatar

Tarrah T.

Yelp
This was every bit worth the $5 and more! I actually pulled onto the highway after driving past it, and I turned around to go back. I'm so glad I did! What a fun part of America's history to walk through. I loved the "3D" displays and all the pictures and stories that accompanied them. The gift shop was great as well!

Elizabeth M.

Yelp
My husband and I really enjoyed this. This is a must see for locals and tourists alike. Very neat, clean, and well done. They have displays for different decades and a lot of neat cars. Also, the gift shop is nice and the prices are reasonable.

Suzanne G.

Yelp
I was very disappointed that I was passing through the town where this Route 66 museum is located the gentleman in the museum said there was 10 minutes left they were closing. Instead of offering for me to see if I could make it through in 10 minutes at least see what I could he didn't even give me that option. I've always been interested in Route 66 and I'll probably never ever be able to see this cuz I probably won't be through here again.

Sue S.

Yelp
Everyone should stop here on their travels. It tells the whole history of Route 66. The gift shop is very extensive. It was the best!

Catherine A.

Yelp
Small but beautifully done museum with lots of informative exhibits. Lots of recreations like of a diner booth and Soda Fountain counter. Won't take long to go through but worth it for sure. Outside are more things to see!
google avatar

Lj S.

Yelp
If your as big a fan of route 66 as I am, you must stop and check this place out. It is wonderfully laid out as you stroll through some fantastic historic pieces. Explaining how and why the road became so important. The price is right ($5) and you can pick up some swag and take some great photos while your there. Don't be afraid to talk to someone you see there. Good chance they're from another country.

Ernie S.

Yelp
We've been driving along Route 66 since Arizona and my girlfriend (who is a 66 afficianado) and she begged me to go to this museum that I feared would be a dump. Luckily it was the opposite of that. They had details about the communities along the highway from several decades, and the place is run by the OK historical society and is subsidized by the federal government, so it's not a tourist trap or a money maker or a hole-in-the-wall junk place. It's a pretty high quality museum with a bunch of interesting exhibits about gas pumps, the dust bowl, diners, workers, social class issues, and it ends with a nuanced documentary about the progression and demise of the road. We also enjoyed the cool music too. Also, it's only $3.00 for adults and $1.00 for kids, so it's a deal. Check it out if you have time.

Johnny B.

Yelp
I have long looked forward to visiting this museum (I always watch Rt 66 on TV). The museum is packed full of historical treasures housed in a number of buildings. We found the staff helpful and somewhat informative. There are significant problems however. So many of the items are not labeled as to use, date, etc. One is left guessing what is being looked at with no way of knowing. The museum is in desperate need of a curator.

SaraMercedes L.

Yelp
We didn't really like Oklahoma, but we really enjoyed Clinton! We learned a lot at this museum and the kids were entertained too! Very cheap admission. We spent about an hour & a half here.
