Google
I love okonomiyaki so had this in my list for so long and to be able to go was so fulfilling They have a few types of okonomiyaki and their menu isn’t overloaded with items, which is nice. So because of my long awaited visit, I went all out and got the seafood one. So good. Can get a bite of different seafood in each bite. Also like the fact that bonito flakes and seaweed are available I do wish they had their dessert pudding when I went but they were sold out. So will have to go again! Service was great. Felt the japanese hospitality upon arrival and waitress was super nice. Very quick and efficient. Place is not big, so not sure how busy it can get, but I went about 1:30 on a Wednesday and it seemed ok. Great job overall

I recently visited, from Ottawa, after having not been for over 13+ years. I had told my wife about this very special place and was finally able to bring her for a legendary okonomiyaki. The atmosphere is the epitome of charming and nostalgic. The service is exceptional and the food was as spectacular as I remembered. We ordered the vegetable okonomiyaki, which was jam-packed with flavour, a delicious green tea, and their famous custard pudding - we loved it all and can’t wait to go back in our next visit to Toronto. Thank you, Okonomi House! 🥞☕️

Okonomiyaki is my favourite here! The yakisoba is fantastic as well. Affordable casual dining. Has a comfortable feel in there, makes you forget you’re in noisy yorkville

Google
A must visit restaurant. I moved away from Toronto, but make sure to come every time I am in the city. I enjoy the beef yakisoba and the pork okonomiyaki. The custard pudding is great for desert. Very friendly staff, I'm a life long customer!

Had a chance to visit this gem today. The inside is a bit dated but kept very clean and tidy. I ordered the Seafood deluxe Okonomi and Yakisoba. The seafood deluxe Okonomi was PACKED with seafood and was delicious 👌🏼. Yakisoba was fried and seasoned just right and not too oily! We sat next to a table that ordered chicken teriyaki and the portion was HUGE. ❤️ (next time!) 10/10 would recommend 🙏🏼❤️👌🏼

Google
I ordered yakiniku and okonomiyaki. I felt that the sliced beef in the yakiniku was too thin and didn’t have a special taste for me. The okonomiyaki was good and had a generous portion, but it would have been even better with some dried bonito on top. The overall prices are quite reasonable, and the employees are attentive to the customers.

Google
My experience at Okonomi House Restaurant was excellent. Service was on point and the food was even more amazing. We ordered the Seafood Deluxe Okonomiyaki and we opted to add on the Aonori & Katsuobushi. I highly recommend this dish! The Seafood Deluxe comes with tiger shrimp, scallop, crab stick and squid. If you don't like seafood, there are other options to choose from and you can customize further by mixing ingredients that you enjoy. We also shared a Yakisoba. It was good but can't beat the Okonomiyaki here. The restaurant has a very old school vibe but serves very comforting and authentic Japanese style food. Expect to be covered from head to toe with that smokey signature Okonomiyaki smell but it's totally worth it.

Google
Food was decent. If you consider the price, it is actually pretty good ($40 incl tip & tax for 2 ppl is hard to find these days). Service was not there. Servers take your order, they bring your food and they accept your payment - this is pretty much it. They never ask how the food is, they never refill your water, they just don't care. They are not rude though. Does the food taste authentic? Yes. Is it better or on par with the one you can get in Japan? No. Would I come back? No.

Yelp
It was a cold winter night, and I was exhausted from being a commuter, so I went to a place I haven't been to in a long time. The inside is very simple. A bit old, a bit diner, and not very big. But it's been going for decades now, so they must be doing something right! The service, from being seated, to paying my bill, was amazing. Friendly and efficient. I chose to sit at the bar area so I could watch the kitchen workers and see my choice of squid okonomiyaki being made. I also upgraded to get the katsuobushi and seaweed flakes, as well as a side of stir-fried vegetables. Health first! My order arrived, and it was cooked well and tasty. I didn't find the squid to be very exciting as a choice, so next time I will definitely get something else. But the sauce and mayo were delicious, the vegetables were crunchy in a light soy sauce based sauce, and the tea was hot. As I left, on this cold winter night, there was a line up going outside in the cold. University students and middle aged people were all enjoying the space.. For a nice comforting meal, I definitely recommend this place.

Yelp
The best Japanese comfort food in Toronto! This is a no frills speedy diner with a relatively small menu of great choices. The portions are huge and well priced. I always recommend the pancakes and Teriyaki!

Yelp
The atmosphere is always the same here. Like walking into a time capsule! It's got its charm, but once you know that -- it's not enough anymore. The food isn't that great. It's fast food and not at its best. If you're really craving an okonomiyaki, then fine it will do -- but now that I've been here a few times I find I am more disappointed by the food quality. And now, you have to pay for bonito flakes and nori, which is so silly because those are by default always served with okonomiyaki. I'd rather they increase the prices and include them, rather than making them optional at extra cost. The food lacks dimension and flavour without them. With their open kitchen, you watch them prepare the food, and you can see that a lot of the ingredients are not fresh. A real turn off. Unlikely to return anytime soon.

Yelp
Finally got to check out this restaurant this evening. So happy. We got there about 3 minutes before the restaurant opened at 5 pm and there was already a line up of about 8-10 people. However once the restaurant opened, we did not have to wait for a table. Anyone who arrived after, faced a short wait. The restaurant is on the smaller side. Service was great - our water was consistently refilled, and we did not have to wait for long for any of our requests to be accommodated. The wait staff were truly attentive which made the dining experience even more enjoyable. At one point my daughter dropped her chopsticks on the floor. This was noticed by the waitress and we were given new ones without even having to ask. Now on to the food itself - we ordered the pork okonomiyaki and the shrimp okonomiyaki. I preferred the pork one, it seemed to be more flavourful, but the shrimp one stayed together better. We also ordered the chicken teriyaki which was very yummy, with lots of sauce. Service: 5/5 Food: 4/5 Overall, this was an enjoyable dining experience.

Yelp
I loved it here and had so much fun!!! The ambience is so warm and just makes u wanna laugh and socialize and drink beer (maybe I'm a little biased bc I was tipsy off my beer at this restaurant..) anyways it was my first time trying okonomiyaki and it did not disappoint. I also had the Hamburg steak rice dish. delish!

Lisa T.

Yelp
We loved the okonomiyaki we had in Japan and glad there's a spot downtown for us to order one! We came on a Tuesday night and it was quite full inside the restaurant with customers even waiting for a table outside. It's great to know a business is doing well on a week night! Thankfully we didn't have to wait too long for our table and service was quick. Staff were friendly and attentive, and they seem to all speak Japanese so it felt authentic. We had ordered the seafood yakisoba and one okonomiyaki with both pork and shrimp (we paid the additional fee to add in one extra protein). The yakisoba was decent, not terrible but we felt it was cooked a bit salty and thought the extra rice on the side was random. I'm not sure if this is how you're suppose to eat it but we never had a side of rice with this noodle dish before. Although random, it did help cut the saltiness of the dish. We also ordered miso soup which was your typical miso soup you would get at Japanese restaurants. The okonomiyaki itself was actually quite delicious! I really enjoyed the crispy edges and the sauce had developed a crust on top which enhanced the textures of this dish. The pancake itself was light and fluffy with great flavours inside. The bonito flakes and mayo was a great addition to add more flavour as well. Overall, I would come back if I'm ever craving okonomiyaki, but not so sure if I would order the yakisoba again.

Nicole S.

Yelp
Pretty small space and its pretty busy - went here on a Saturday but the service was pretty quick. The pork okonomiyaki was pretty flavourful, I'd just prefer the sauce be a bit lighter since the bbq can be pretty strong

Judy H.

Yelp
Came on a Friday at 6:30pm. The place was crowded but we got a table immediately. It is a very cozy atmosphere like a local "diner". The cooks are behind a glass and you can see them cooking the okonomiyaki for all the guests. Our server was helpful as you fill out a form with your requested items. We ordered the scallop okonomiyaki, pork okonomiyaki and the Yakisoba with fried veggies. Fantastic! Sorry nothing can describe the deliciousness of our dishes except that if y'all had these things either with your family growing up or in Japan that's the closest comparison. A must try when in Toronto if you want food to rekindle memories.

Yelp
Okonomiyaki is a classic Japanese pancake. We tried their top three okonomiyaki: beef, shrimp and pork okonomiyaki. The sauces fully covered the okonomiyaki and the interior lighting was so dim that it was hard to distinguish between them. I loved the shrimp one and it paired perfectly with the mayo. Additionally, we placed an extra order for dried seaweed and bonito flakes to enhance the flavors. Also, we got the burger steak teriyaki, yakisoba, and seafood yakisoba. They came with a lot of bean sprouts and even rice for the noodles. The burger steak was huge and juicy. I liked the seafood yakisoba the most because the sauce paired well with the soba and tasted delicious. However, I don't think the noodles should come with rice. It didn't quite match with the noodles, but we still tried our best to finish all the food. The service could have been better. One of the waitresses was a bit unfriendly. She kept her face upset and made us feel a bit uncomfortable.

Yelp
Visited Okonomi House again after 9 years, and it's definitely a lot better than I remember. These days, my go-to order for the two of us is the beef teriyaki rice plate and the seafood okonomiyaki, although the highlight of each visit is the first dish. Not many places use cubed tenderloin anymore; usually replaced with thin slices of frozen beef 'ribeye' or fast-fry beef. I'm glad Okonomi House uses quality beef. The juicy tenderloin works really well with the teriyaki sauce and stir-fried bean sprouts; makes for a hearty and meaty meal. Too bad the dish price increased to 21.95, otherwise I'd come more often. The okonomiyaki on the other hand, despite being the key dish to the restaurant name, was only so-so in my opinion. Not sure why, but there is always a hint of fishiness at the bottom of the pan. I keep blaming it on the bonito flakes, but I feel like it's to do with the soggy texture of the egg mixture. My interim solution is to eat until I taste the fishiness, and then I cleanse my palate with some teriyaki covered rice. Overall still one of my go-to comfort food meals on a cold/depressing day.

Yelp
Haven't been to the Okonomi House for years and decided to pay a visit here again to see anything has changed. Upon arrival, I was not surprise at all to see a long line up, all the way from inside and kept going outdoor with 10 to 15 people. Despite the line was long, it was pretty organize and moved quite quickly. We had a party of six. Menu was the same as years ago, not big to choose from. Server was quick and attentive. As before, food was good and served on a hot sizzling plate. I was able to find my old time memories here again. LOL. Nice to be back. Recommended.

Yelp
I've wanted to try this place forever and finally did! I met a colleague for a pancake lunch. We arrived right at noon to avoid any lineups. The place was relaxed and friendly. I loved the windows on two sides. The layout gives it a bit of an old diner vibe. I went for the everything seafood pancake since I couldn't choose between shrimp, scallop, and squid (and the deluxe also includes crab sticks.) I added the bonito, which came on the side in a little bowl, and the nori, which came in a shaker. We both had green tea to start, came with a tea bag in a mug with a ceramic cover on it to keep it warm. The pancakes came out hot, covered with the special brown sauce from edge to edge, and a dollop of Japanese mayo in the centre. I added my flakes and nori and dug in. It was delicious - generous seafood and done perfectly, not rubbery. The pancake dough was light and the portion size was just perfect for lunch. A delightful experience! Prices are very reasonable here. This seafood pancake was the most expensive one, around $19 before tax and service - the others are in the 12-13-14 zone. I'll have to try a meat or bacon one next though it'll be hard to stray from the seafood. My colleague ordered chicken and was very impressed. A super spot!

Yelp
I've been wanting to try this spot for awhile especially being the few places that specialize in okonomyaki. Despite a weekday night, there was a lot of customers dining in. Upon waiting, there's a menu you can browse at the counter and also an online menu. Squid Okonomiyaki: The squid was well distributed throughout the okonomiyaki and good portions. The food was good quality given it's price range. Though I will admit, it's not the most filling meal. In addition, I highly recommend getting the bonito flakes (which are an additional 50 cents) as that adds more texture to the pancake. Overall, I had a good experience here for an affordable option in Toronto. If you're coming in a larger group, do expect some wait time. The vibe was very retro like with the restaurant's lighting and booths.

Yelp
Okonomi House is a rare restaurant that specializes in okonomiyaki, a savory Japanese pancake. The only other one that I tired was in North York which is more a takeout place where this has several tables. This place does get crowded, and we did have to wait in a line outside the restaurant. We arrived about at about 1:10 PM on a Saturday waited about 20 minutes before we were seated. Once we were seated, our food arrived about 10 or 15 minutes after ordering. Our order consisted of the following: 1 X Pork okonomiyaki (plus aonori and katsuobushi for $0.50 extra) 1 X Vegetable okonomiyaki (plus aonori and katsuobushi for $0.50 extra) 1 X Bacon okonomiyaki (plus aonori and katsuobushi for $0.50 extra) 1 X Yakisoba We wanted to order the Beef Curry, which is new and in limited quantities, but they had just sold out. Each of okonomiyaki we ordered was very good, with the bacon being the best of the three. The yakisoba was just ok, so we could have skipped this. Once we were seated, the service was very friendly and prompt. Our food arrived quickly and very hot. I would return, for more okonomiyaki and hopefully to try the beef curry if it not sold out again.

Yelp
A cheap eats option in the Yorkville area. Okonomi House serves traditional bars eats but is most know for its array of okonomiyaki dishes. The service is generally very good but can be harder to grab a sever during peak times. I went when they opened at noon and the service was impeccable. They refilled my water without asking and grabbed the bill quickly when I asked for it. The ambience is a small Japanese style bar seating options to watch the cook or you can opt for the dining area if you are with a group. The food itself is one of the cheaper options in the area and portion sizes are good. One okonomiyaki was perfect lunch size meals. Opt for some apps too if you are grabbing dinner. I ordered the Squid okonomiyaki and my total came out to $15 before tip. Highly recommend if you are a fan of okonomiyaki as this is one of the best joints in the city serving it.

John H.

Yelp
Can believe we just "discovered" this place recently. I feel like it's going to become a frequent comfort-food lunch-stop for us. I had a classic okonomiyaki with shirmp + bonito flakes on the side and it was really the perfect lunch. It was hot and flavorful and I loved the texture. The brown sauce on top has a nice tang and the bonito flakes added that smoky fish flavour that takes it to another level. It's simple but really well done. Looking around there were a bunch of different dishes going past that I really want to try. They must be doing something right since they've been around since 1978! Also I love the place with all it's big windows - feels like a classic diner design. More please.

Yelp
We're visiting from The US and in the Bay Area with a high percentage of restaurants it is hard to wow us and visit a great restaurant twice but we did for this place. We went twice within 3 days 1)when they were just opening and 2) the last customer before closing. The food quality was amazing and beyond our expectations. I loved the nuance and complexity of the flavors. The first day my husband and I arrived at the 5pm opening we ordered the signature beef curry stew( limited to 25 servings per day before sell out, myhusband ordered the Yakununu dinner. Ari aged beef, onions and bean sprouts served on a steaming bed of rice. The beef stew was over the top amazing, tender, seasoned perfectly with perfect amount of curry and accompanying spices. It was the best I've had so I was disappointed not available on second visit. My husband's dish was generous and perfectly tender beef where the whole dish had a bit of a peanut base. It was so good we didn't finish either dish before going to bed the next night The service was great, fast, dishes, brought and retrieved quickly after done Food 5/5 Service 4/5 Ambiance 4/5 We went again today, and they frankly have so much business with lines waiting to come in they can afford to have short late hour dining 9:30 pm close orders in by 8:45. No curry beef, ordered a vegetarian pancake Okonomi-yaki you can order with meat, tofu, chicken or seafood. The veggie pancake was delicious! Crunchy on the outside, cooked steaming hot veggies on the inside it was perfect. We also had the yaki soba, chicken, shrimp, beef sautéed in a delicious sauce with vegetables and noodles with a scoop of white rice. The noodles had depth of flavor without being too salty. Really good. It was the end of night and servers were cleaning up so they didn't remove empty dishes, refill empty water glasses and we had to grab the attention after several attempts for service like the check.. great place and will definitely return again Food 4.5/5 Service 3/5 Ambiance 3/5

Kai-Wen L.

Yelp
Okonomi House Restaurant never disappoints me. The service, the price and the food are always of high quality. This time I came here with my wife and my mother-in-law. We're all very satisfied with what we got. Cheer for them!

Winona H.

Yelp
3.5 stars an old school resto specializing in all things yaki (okonomiyaki & yakisoba!) there's nothing like this in toronto, nostalgic seating, small menu, and a big open window for you to watch it all come together. service is quick and friendly but can take longer to get seated if it's busy. we shared the seafood okonomiyaki since we weren't feeling up to a full meal each, and this was the perfect pick me up snack to share and at such a good deal in this toronto economy! you can add additional toppings for $0.5 (kewpie, bonito, parsley) which i would recommend since it adds more texture. the texture and flavour is nice but not quite close to what you can get at good ones in japan but is a thirst quencher for the mean time. i usually prefer crispier edges and less batter in mine! on our menu: - seafood delux okonomiyaki ($19.05)

Michelle D.

Yelp
We came here on a weekday evening and were seated at the bar seats. The whole store was packed with people waiting at the door. That's how good this place is! I got the scallop okomiyaki ($11.55) and with the okonomi sauce, mayo, katsubushi and aonori (+$0.5) and it was delicious! It was freshly made and prepared right in front of us. The pancake doesn't look so big but it was filling. Service was excellent and super polite - a breath of fresh air! I will totally return and perhaps try their rice or noodle dishes next time.

Richmond O.

Yelp
Haven't had a chance to dine in due to COVID and as restrictions are lifting this was a place to try in person. Was great to have the bar seats to watch the chef make the okonomi. Opted for the beef okonomiyami and the yakisoba. Okonomiyaki was flavourful and filling. Outer layer had a nice crust to it. Generous amount of meat. Had the option for the bonito flakes to be left on the side. Yakisoba was also extremely well portioned and tasted great. Service was quick and food arrived quickly. Price is beyond reasonable. Very humble Japanese eat!

Jo-Anne L.

Yelp
A small, quaint restaurant with a limited menu, but in the best way - they definitely know what they're doing with the okinomiyaki! No frills here, but super cheap prices for a filing, delicious dish. The Japanese pancake was cooked to be crispy on the outside while still smooth and soft on the inside, topped with a slightly sweet sauce and salty bonito flakes - perfect! Service was great, the place is adequately staffed and the servers were friendly and attentive. Recommended for a quick meal if you're in the area! FYI - I saw some reviews say that the sauce is a bit overwhelming - you can ask for it on the side and apply as needed yourself. :)

Selena C.

Yelp
This has been on my list of places to try in Toronto and im happy I finally stopped by and ordered one! It is hidden from Bloor and the normal Yorkville classy shops but all the red lights/lanterns make it stand out on the street. I ordered on Ritual but there were also a decent amount of people dining in. Ordered the beef okonomi with mayo and the flakes (recommend the 50 cent upgrade) and it was delicious. Reasonably priced at roughly $10. The restaurant reminded me of how cozy and homey Owl of Minerva is as well, but just with much dimmer lights. The beef awas very flavourful and complimented the rest of the pancake very well as it wasn't as heavily seasoned. I imagine having it fresh during dine in would be even better, but it was still good nonetheless as takeout. Looking forward to coming back again to try other things!

Jen A.

Yelp
I am so glad this place survived the pandemic closures! This is a retro, cosy place that I hope never changes. Their food is reasonably priced; we had two miso soups, two caramel custards, and one chicken okonomiyaki for under $30. In this neighbourhood, with Yorkville literally down the street, it's lovely to see a restaurant like this. The miso soup has lots of tofu and is a perfect little appetizer on a chilly day. The okonomiyaki is my favourite in Toronto, with lots of sauce, cabbage, and mayo. And their servers are always friendly and accommodating. This feels like home cooking and now that I know it's still here, I look forward to coming here again and again. Tip: always pay the extra for the yummy bonito flakes!

Alex C.

Yelp
Got the: - Bacon Okonomi-yaki ($11.45) + Seaweed & Bonito ($0.50) - Beef Curry with Rice ($14.00) - Sapporo ($5.70) I've been here several times and would recommend ordering any of the Okonomi-yaki's. The pork, bacon, and chicken one's are my favorite. Would also recommend to get the seaweed and bonito topping for an extra 50 cents. The curry was okay but in my opinion quite salty and it doesn't come with any vegetables (just sauce + shredded beef). Also the serving of rice that comes with the curry is not proportional to the curry given (but it is a large serving). This place also gets very busy and it is closed on Sundays!

Helen A.

Yelp
Great service but the food was just ok. I ordered the special okonomiyaki and it was somewhat burnt.

Lucia L.

Yelp
I finally decided to try this place out after seeing all the reviews online but it wasn't to my personal preference. I got their seafood yakisoba and scallop okonomiyaki. I found their prices kind of steep for the hole in the wall style restaurant. They're currently serving everything in take out boxes with disposable cutlery when you dine in. For me, the flavours weren't that outstanding. I kind of felt like the okonomiyaki sauce just overwhelmed everything and did not like the texture of the batter.

jennifer h.

Yelp
Nice places to try Okonomiyaki. I guess it is hard to find in Toronto. And their pudding is very delicious, tastes like traditional Japanese pudding.

Ada L.

Yelp
Okonomi House is located along Charles Street, about 15 seconds away from Yonge. Hidden in the corner of a plaza, this restaurant has been serving mainly okonomiyaki (savoury Japanese pancakes) for over 40+ years. You can't miss the floating red lanterns that are outside the store. Currently they are open for dine in and have some tables outside as well. They also do takeout where you can order your food through Ritual. Prices are reasonable. I ordered off Ritual where there was a vast selection of okonomiyaki to choose from (beef, chicken, bacon, veggie, scallop, shrimp, etc.). I also opted to order a yakisoba as well. The time it took from ordering to pickup only took about 15 min. Pick up was fast where staff were friendly. I ordered right when they opened for dinner service and saw that there was already a table seated. Other customers also were coming in as well. I opted for a bacon okonomiyaki and a yakisoba. I don't see okonomiyaki much as an option in other Japanese restaurants here in Toronto. Probably the last time I had okonomiyaki was in Japan a few years ago. With it being takeout, I found the savoury pancake comforting and filling. It had a good flavour to it where nothing was too overpowering (I also opted to add the katsubushi & aonori (bonito flakes + dried seaweek)) on my okomiyaki. Of course because I had takeout, the okonomiyaki was already soft and not crispy. The yakisoba was good as well where there were a variety of meats (chicken, beef and shrimp) in the noodles. Was hoping for more Worcestershire sauce in the dish but overall, satisfying. Overall, hope to return to eat in at Okonomi House! There is something so comforting and satisfying about the place and the food they serve. Do visit and support them if you are around the neighbourhood!

Koji S.

Yelp
Good, solid, authentic okonomiyaki, operated by Japanese people who know what they're doing. (It's Osaka-style okonomiyaki with everything mixed together.) Solid variety of ingredient options, and (astonishingly) at the $10 range! Possibly the only place left in Toronto where you can get a sit-down meal for less than $15. Get the aonori and katsuoboshi (which are the green and white toppings in the photo), which add colour and crunch, and it's how we do it in Japan.

Melisa M.

Yelp
Definitely a stop! The restaurant is a bit small but the service was fairly quick for a friday night. There was only a 30 min wait. The food was amazing, hoping to come back again soon.

Tom L.

Yelp
Quaint Japanese diner serving okonomiyaki and other comfort foods. The food is simple and straightforward. You get exactly what you order, no frills no fuss. The environment is charming and has its own character. Something about the lighting makes you feel like you're somewhere else. Ordered squid okonomiyaki, yakisoba, and curry beef. Everything was delicious. Will come back for more.

Nayr G.

Yelp
I heard this place was good and considering it was just a block away from my hotel, I had to give this place a try. I came by during a light rainy afternoon weekday, 30 minutes after opening, and was surprised to see that all except one table was free to be seated. I ordered the Seafood Deluxe with all the additions and my brother ordered the Beef Okonomiyaki. We both shared the food and we both agreed the Seafood Deluxe tasted far better. I was surprised that it exceeded my expectations and also set a higher standard for a solid Okonomiyaki in my books. It makes the Okonomiyaki's in NYC look like it was done by amateurs. It was truly a nice meal to have during an afternoon drizzle-ly day and I wouldn't mind visiting this spot again for a simple, quality meal! Note, I would suggest to opt-in for the Okonomiyaki additions (kasubushi and aonori) for the full experience.

E Y.

Yelp
Freshly made to order Osaka style okonomiyaki. Straightforward simple great food. Was really happy to find real okonomiyaki. Was my first visit so I went with the basics and got the pork okonomiyaki with aonori and bonito flakes. I think they made them optional out of consideration for vegetarian and people who are sensitive to "fishy" tastes. Definitely recommend to add them,as they're key toppings to okonomiyaki. Wish one day they would have more topping add on options like mochi or cheese. That would make it super amazing. Casual style, with nice staff and service. No frills no fuss. Would definitely go again.

Yelp
We were in the area for a doctor's appointment and the suggestion of lunch at Okonomi House was proffered, to which I answered with a hearty and resounding yes. I hadn't been to the joint in years despite always loving the food there, so I was excited to see if they were still cranking out top-notch eats. They sure are. It's a notoriously tiny place and we were showing up right at lunchtime, so I wasn't too hopefully we'd get a table. But get a table we did, so we began perusing the menu. Of course, we had to get one of the Japanese pancakes, so we opted for the Shrimp Okonomi-yaki ("A Japanese pancake made with flour, egg, milk, chopped cabbage, green onion and pickled ginger topped with sauce and mayo."), and we added the katsubushi and aonori to that. It arrived a short time later and was essentially picture-perfect in terms of appearance. And one bite told me that Ononomi House hasn't lost a step in the years since my last visit. This is one delectable, delicious dish. Everything works so well together, and the concoction is prepared perfectly. We also ordered the Burger Steak Teriyaki ("11 oz of lean beef patty on stir-fried bean sprouts served with steamed rice"), mostly because I was just curious about what it actually was. It's incredible. The ground beef's been mixed with some tasty spices and cooked on the griddle until an absolutely irresistible crust has formed. It's then topped with an addictive teriyaki sauce, and served with two mounds of rice and perfectly-cooked bean sprouts. I really, really loved it. It's always nice when you return to a restaurant after a lengthy absence and discover that it's exactly as you remembered. Hopefully my next visit to Okonomi House isn't years away.

Yelp
I really enjoyed this place - we were a group of 6 waiting around 45 mins for a table before checking out our friend's show in Yorkville. I've missed okonomiyaki and haven't had any since my Japan trip in 2019. Definitely worthwhile and the batter to cabbage to meat ratio was very good. I opted for the beef okonomiyaki (11.55) with kasubushi and aonori extra (+0.5). They have many combinations of add-ins, ranging from chicken, to seafood to vegetarian. Many groups ahead of us opted for yakisoba as well. The taste was authentic and the servers were super helpful. If you're not a fan of the okonomi sauce (which may be Japanese bulldog sauce?) I would ask them to go easy on it, as it can get pretty salty. The restaurant is back to pre-Covid levels of dine-in and still has a long wait. They have a few bar seats but mostly 2 person table arrangements. The establishment accepts Amex and I will definitely be back to try the curry beef.

Yelp
4.5/5 Ordered through Ritual for a Saturday night pickup. We got one vegetable okonomiyaki and one shrimp okonomiyaki. We also specified that we only want the okonomi sauce and mayo on top as toppings. When we got home the okonomiyakis were still hot which I was super happy about. I know they're best eaten fresh but unfortunately they aren't open for dine-in at the moment. The veggie okonomiyaki was filled with peppers, bean sprouts, onions, and maybe some other veggies and all held together with an eggy base. I could tell all the veggies were fresh and it was super delicious, especially with the two sauces. I'd definitely ask for more okonomi sauce next time, it really goes well with it. One okonomiyaki was perfect as a meal and was filling and hearty. I'd definitely go back here to grab dinner again! So delicious and affordable!

Yelp
One of the best and most authentic Japanese food you can get in town! I ordered... -Chicken Okonomiyaki: 5/5, just delicious and firm, not like some other yaki that falls apart in your spoon/chopsticks -Beef Curry 4/5, decent Japanese curry but not enough rice for the curry though. Good red pickles btw!

Yelp
This is a lovely restaurant with great items on their menu. The portions are big enough for the price. I love their custard pudding and beef okonomiyaki. The service is kind and quick. Inside the restaurant is clean, cozy, and the decoration is simple yet nice.

Yelp
Good place for some yakisoba and okonomiyaki! Really nice servers and quaint atmosphere. If I came again, I think I'd get just okonomiyaki because it was so yummy!

Yelp
Face it, we are desperate for Japanese food here and any authentic Japanese outlet (no not all those fake 'Japanese cheesecake' or phony 'sushi') earns an extra automatic point. Okonomiyaki House has been around forever and even the pandemic cannot kill it. Phew. I am glad and pleasantly surprised because okonomiyaki does not seem the ideal take-out or deliver food given its propensity to become damp and soggy, but that is just what I did and it worked! Their okonomiyaki, of which they have several flavours (veggie, pork, seafood, etc.) of the Osaka variety, is savoury and delicious. They are around $12 each. It is clearly skimping on the meat and too saucy, but it will do for a restaurant in Toronto. One minor complaint: aonori (spice) which is a must with Okonomiyaki is $0.50 extra. It is part and parcel so how could you make it an extra? But I will tell you what. The real okonomiyaki that I crave has its mayonnaise on top in neat and straight grids and is grilled by yourself on your table's teppan (grill). That though is only found in Japan so I will have Okonomiyaki House's while I dream of the more authentic thing. They also have yakisoba (fried noodles) for the noodle inclined.

Yelp
I had the seafood Yakisoba noodles. I liked. I have to go try more.

Yelp
This was my first time trying a savory Japanese pancake. It was sooo good! I ordered the deluxe seafood savory pancake. There was a generous amount of seafood in the pancake. Will definitely dine here again.

Yelp
You can find the Japanese taste in Okonomi House restaurant! The Okonomiyaki is so good! It's really yummy and the staff are nice. And the price is fair as well. Highly recommend!

Yelp
This literally transported me back to pre-Covid days when you could grab these from Japanese street vendors Savoury egg mixture pancakes filled with onions, cabbage and meat (we got bacon) and topped with kewpie, bonito flakes and dried seaweed (extra charge) Very authentic and tasty, just a bit on the salty side, otherwise amazing! Will be back soon

Yelp
Tasty. Buy the seaweed and fish flakes. Beware of long lines. Authentic taste experience. Ambiance is only ok.

Yelp
Located in a TTC friendly zone (just west of Yonge, on St Nicholas street), this tiny spot serves up some decent food! Ever popular, there seems to be a line up at times to get in. It's a small spot with not a lot of tables so it gets filled up quickly - no reservations, first come first served. It has a very weird red light glow..reminds me of some cheesy 70s porn movie or darkroom lol. So, as the name implies, they serve Okonomiyaki here - a Japanese omelete/pancake dish. You can get various toppings (such as seaweed, bonito flakes, etc). I think most are priced under $10. You can get beef, pork chicken, seafood and of course veggie options, top of with your choice of toppings (extra cost, but not by much) and the mayo sauce. They have a small selection of side orders - rice, miso soup, edamame, etc. A couple of options for beer, sake and plum wine round out this place for a bite to eat. We ordered a few for the group (they are a bit on the small side, so if you have a large appetite you may need to order 2). Overall, a decent meal for a great price! Definitely stop by if you are in the area.

Yelp
Unchanged while the decades past by,Okononomi has stayed true to its roots. A truly authentic Japanese street food experience in the heart of Toronto with its welcoming laterns and open griddle that has a 'sizzle' for each order made fresh. I've been coming here ever since a little boy, and I take every opportunity to make a stop when in the area. Seated at the small counter and presented with the usual order sheet and pencil, I check off the chicken Okonomi and a side of rice. How can you not appreciate the experience of watching your order being made and brought to you fresh. The wizened master chef toiling for years and years over the same griddle (probably) serving up a fabulous savoury pancake with a dollop mayo in the center. The prices are barely changed, very reasonable for that spot. You must try this piece of true Toronto bliss in the heart of the city unabashedly modest, true to its origins and a part of history.
