A must-visit in Hiroshima! Okonomimura has tons of small stalls serving delicious, sizzling okonomiyaki made right in front of you. Fun atmosphere, great flavors, and very affordable. Try the Hiroshima-style with noodles—you won’t regret it!

One dining experience in Hiroshima that you definately to try is the Hiroshima style Okonomiyaki at Okonomimura which is a 4 level building with small counter seating style restaurants only serving Okonomiyaki. First of all what is Okonomiyaki - it is like a Japanese filled savoury crepe/ pancake with a crepe at the bottom topped with lots of Cabbage, bean sprouts, egg, meat, spices and other additional ingredients based on your choice. Out of all the restaurants at Okonomimura, I went to Yama Chan (Right at the end on the 2nd floor on the right) which is highly recommended (You can also try out the others which offer a similar experience). There was an old lady making the Okonomiyaki, but don't be fooled by her age, she is extremely professional and can give some of the heavy weights lifters a run for their weights 🤣. I ordered the Basic Okonomiyaki which comes with Crepe, Cabbage, Bean Sprouts, Eggs and bacon, Bbq Sauce and topped it with Cheese and Noodles. The lady chef prepares the Okonomiyaki right in front of you and once done places it on a warm griddle in front of you. You are then required to cut it into smaller pieces with your spatula and serve it on your plate and enjoy. No fuss but brilliant and extremely filling. Although it may be considered rude to not finish your food in Japan but because of my small appetite, I wasn't able to and apologised sincerely and they understood. They don't do takeaways. Communication could be a problem, so be prepared to use Google translate. All in all, I had a wonderful experience. Am I a big fan of Okonomiyaki - not really but definitely give it a try atleast once. Arigato Gozaimasu 🙏🏻

Google
A fun and delicious experience I recommend doing!! For those of us with smaller stomachs, we probably could have shared one between two. The service was also delightful, the couple leading were funny and inviting of us tourists.

Google
We went to a place on the second floor. The stay was wonderful and the food was delicious. The atmosphere of eating around all the other stalls was very cool. Definitely recommend

Google
3 floors of amazing looking restaurants. I recommend Daimaroudo on the 4th floor (chefs in red t shirts). They seemed to have the best vibes to me. The chefs spoke really good English and had English menus. I had the best okonomiyaki there and don't sleep on the side dishes, especially the garlic beef!

Google
Restaurants over 3 floors making okonomiyaki. We chose a place on 2F and it was awesome. The lady working there was nice, watching her making our food was a pleasure and once the food was ready it was great. It was a substantial meal and we loved it. The whole building is cash only.

Google
Very cool experience! The food is made fresh right in front of you and the staff were friendly with speedy service. It was easy to order and everything came out delicious. Definitely a unique dining experience worth checking out for some local okonomiyaki!

Google
One for the unknowing scam loving tourist, most who have no indication of what decent (need not be expensive) Japanese food is. Food was terrible, frozen and over cooked oysters. The okonomiyaki here was just batter and noodles for like 1800Y. Avoid at best. The food at any Japanese gourmet hall is far better and superior.

Eric R.

Yelp
Tucked away on the third floor amidst a cluster of similar eateries, this gem stands out with its amazing service and authentic Japanese charm. The speed and hospitality are top-notch, with every bit of Japanese respect and courtesy you'd expect. The food is an experience in itself, prepared right before your eyes with high-quality ingredients and served in generous portions. The communal seating around the grill adds a social twist, making it easy to strike up conversations with fellow diners. We had the pleasure of sitting next to a lovely German family and had an absolute blast. For anyone craving authentic local cuisine and a bit of camaraderie, this spot is a must-visit! Highly recommended!

Yelp
Definitely an interesting place worth visiting a lot of great food options. It's very warm inside obviously with all of the hot tops running all the time.

Yelp
Okonomimura / Hiroshima -- Apparently there are over 2,000 okonomiyaki restaurants in Hiroshima, more than any other Japanese city. I also found out that the unique Hiroshima-style of okonomiyaki took off in popularity in the throes of the 1945 A-bomb blast when it was found to be a cheap way for the survivors to have food to eat. I just found this fascinating albeit tragic context. The name of this building translates into 'Okonomiyaki Village', which was an apt name as there were 25 separate restaurants over three floors. It was quite a hub of activity with each space quite busy managed by a chef and usually an assistant making the savory pancakes on a large grill. Jamie W. and I had a dickens of a time choosing which one to eat at. Up on the third floor, we decided to try a space called Takenoko which fortunately had two empty stools. The chef was industrious, and we could only assume his associate was his wife given the shorthand way they communicated and covered each other. We also noticed that none of the other customers were Japanese. Foreign tourists may dominate the building, but it's still worth a visit. RELATED - Exploring Japan? Here's a collection of places I've visited and reviewed: https://bit.ly/2qrUBZo

Yelp
I heard this is a popular dish in Japan so I had to try it. It was a little confusing finding this spot but that's pretty common where things are on different levels in the same building. I sat down at the first shop I saw that offers this dish when I entered the floor because I felt a little pressured to make a quick decision but I should have walked around a bit. I'm not sure if it was just this particular shop but the food tasted uncooked and pretty bland. The one saving grace was that the staff were nice but I would not return.

Karen L.

Yelp
Three floors of Okonomiyaki stalls. Which one do we choose??? We walked around to survey our options and chose the one that looked... well... the most substantial. We were not disappointed. Three ladies were working behind the flattops. We ordered the number 1 choice with shrimp, squid, bacon, and 2 oysters on top. It was heaping! We also ordered seared scallops which were good sized and came with additional stir fried vegetables, a draft beer, and a lemonade. Locals and tourists sitting elbow to elbow enjoying Hiroshima styled okomiyaki! A delicious and delightful way to end a day!

Michelle D.

Yelp
Tried Hiroshima style okonomiyaki at the stall left of the elevators when you get off. Mine had seafood and pork. It was amazing. The chef prepared like 7-8 okonomiyakis at the same time and just watching him put it together was an experience itself. There was lots of cabbage which I loved. You get to pick soba or udon and I picked the latter which was a great choice. Put extra teriyaki? sauce on top and it was amazinggg. Service was really nice. It was quite hot too as the cooktop was right in front of our faces but it was a great experience because the okonomiyaki stayed hot as we were eating.

Blanca H.

Yelp
The okonomiyaki were amazing! The people preparing them were so nice. They speak some English snd always make you feel welcome. There are several okomiyaki places together but we really loved this one. Lines are long but the two times we went, we were accomodated very quickly. I guess it was early but even if we had to wait, i say the food totally worths waiting for it.

Kathy Y.

Yelp
Okonomiyaki at it's finest. businesses been here over 30 years. the whole building is tiny vendors operating a stall. Yes love the Hiroshima style Oknomiyaki, it's with noodles and cooked in layers vs Osaka style which is without noodles and everything mixed together in their pancake batter then fried...

Dong H.

Yelp
Hard to rate everything here as this is more of a collection of Okonomiyaki restaurants. There's 4 floors in the building and each floor has multiple restaurants all serving a variety of Okonomiyaki. Unlike Osaka style the ingredients are not blended into an batter and there is less batter. All service is similar as it's going to be one chef cooking and chatting with you. Great snack or small meal.

Leon S.

Yelp
The cooks were super kind. I didn't speak Japanese at all. They tried hard to understand me. Push came to shove & i ended up pointing & eating. It was all delicious! The food was delicious. The service was great. The ambiance was fast & kind.

Yuko H.

Yelp
Okonomi Village..., Choices and decisions..., I've been here a few times and my experience here is always positive. I tried different restaurants each time and I must say those who are here tastes better than independently owned restaurants. Cost here and anywhere is just about the same. Most places here are cash only. Since they save money on rent and credit card fee, they could spend more money on ingredients???? If your travel brings to Hiroshima, I highly recommend visiting this building to try some of their okonomiyaki

Genevieve F.

Yelp
One of the greatest experience of my trip to Japan!! The food is very fresh and filled with lots of flavor.

Indranil D.

Yelp
Okonomiyaki is a popular pan fried food that consists of batter and cabbage. Selected toppings and ingredients are added which can vary greatly (anything from meat and seafood to wasabi and cheese). This variability is reflected in the dish's name; "okonomi" literally means "to one's liking". The dish is available all over Japan, but is most popular in the west, particularly the cities of Hiroshima . While i am in Hiroshima today i visited this shopping district which is 15 min walk from Hiroshima Atomic Bomb Dome . This has 6 floors with small restaurants like Hibachi style . I got the Hiroshima special okonomiyaki which comes with bacon , cabbage , noodles , egg etc. Its worth to try ....will i be crazy about it the way i luv sushi ...probably no ...unless u try more n more and if it grows on u :-)

Andy N.

Yelp
Cheers to the okonomiyaki gods for leaving their doors open for us on New Year's Day when everything else was shut down in Japan! Okonomimura is a must-eat spot for anyone interested in trying Hiroshima's oyster-filled take on okonomiyaki. It functions almost like a three-story food court with the only main item on the menu being... you guessed it! Every little stall is competing with other so you'll have a lot of people waiting around for a seat at some of the best ones. Because it is so touristy, each of the different shops will have an English menu available. All of the okonomiyaki here are reasonably priced between the ¥1000 - ¥1400 range before additional ingredients. When in Hiroshima, one is almost expected to try their okonomiyaki with grilled oysters on top (assuming you're not allergic). The one I ended up ordering was a combination of seafood and pork, packed with a ton of cabbage because that's how they do it here in Hiroshima. Be sure to ask for extra okonomiyaki sauce and mayonnaise because it really adds a lot! If you enjoy green onions, don't hesitate to ask for more because they will top off your pizza-pancake hybrid with more than you can chew. Order a dish, grab a drink, and enjoy the rowdiness that is Okonomimura!

Brenda K.

Yelp
While in Osaka, you need to eat the Okonomiyaki, that's what they are known for! I am glad we tried it! It's made of a layer of crepe kind of batter, then a bunch shredded cabbage, bean sprouts and bacon(everything is good with bacon), after it's cooked all the way then an egg is spread out and the pile of cabbage is lay on top of it, you can also add noodles too! After it's all done, a special sauce is put on top and a sprinkle of some green stuff! It was yummy and not too heavy! We shared one, it was huge!

Roddy N.

Yelp
What a treat. It's pancake day in the UK today so this was an incredibly fortuitous find! Lemon and sugar be damned - my pancakes will forever be topped with noodles, pork, bamboo shoots and egg from now on. We went up to 3F and were greeted by a charming, smiling elderly couple who took us to their stall. The menus were English and they had a good selection: nothing too mental and just the right amount of choice. They cooked our selection in front of us and happily obliged as we took photos and videos. The whole experience was very homely and felt very genuine. If you're in the area, get this on your list!

Yelp
Hiroshimayaki(Hiroshima version of Okonomiyaki) is "must eat" item when you visit this city. Located in "Okonomimura"(okonomi village) that is consisted from 2 floors in the building. Naming of "Okonomi village" alone got me excited like a kid about to go to a gigantic candy store. And it didn't fail me. It lived up to its name. I looked around.m, it was gorgeous Okonomiyaki bonanza. Then I started not to care which one I go in. As a result I picked this place "Atom"just because seats became available the soonest. To be honest, I forgot what type of okonomiyaki I ordered. The point is that everything, I mean, everything was freakin' gorgeous and orgasmically delicious. I've eaten okonomiya w/ soba noodle in it. But never had udon version before. I think udon was far better than soba. Anyway, if you already love okonomiyaki, this place is "must-fuckin-go". Period. Don't neglect it.

David H.

Yelp
Really good Hiroshima Okonomiyaki. You could really taste the different layers. Prices are reasonable, about 1000-1400 depending on what type you order. We tried the beef and the oyster okonomiyaki. Both were delicious. They have regular and spicy sauce to drizzle on afterward. I probably wouldn't get oyster again (didn't think it was worth the additional cost), but was still very happy with the meal overall. Service is friendly, but there were only a few there handling many customers, so water refills were slow. I loved sitting at the bar and watching all of the okonomiyaki being made.

Kurtis C.

Yelp
Okonomimura is basically like an Anaheim Packing District, except with no hipsters and 3 floors of the same food. It's not the name of a restaurant. It's a little confusing trying to figure out where you want to eat because once you step out of the elevator, you're immediately greeted with どうぞ by everyone. Basically they all serve the same thing, but the prices are different and some places have their own twist. Eventually we found Teppei to be reasonable in price. They also have an English menu, as do most of the places. It's a fun experience watching the whole pancake being made from scratch. Our lady cranked out okonomiyaki effortlessly. I'll have you know that flipping these suckers is a lot harder than they make it look. The gyozas are worth getting too. If you can't settle for a spot, then let my review help you. Teppei was fun and most importantly tasty. They're a little small by the way, so get your own. Who wants to share something good anyway?

Valerie A.

Yelp
Delicious and authentic. This is where the locals go. Some of the best Okonomiyaki. Made fresh to order exactly how you want it. Very reasonably priced.

Ruben G.

Yelp
Are you kidding me?!? THIS is the specialty dish from Hiroshima. THIS is the place where they cook it up right in front of you, using all fresh ingredients. THIS is the place where so many locals go, because the food is so good and the prices are so reasonable. Yes, you can buy this dish at nearby restaurants (with better ambiance) for twice as much... but the food won't be any tastier than here! You're welcome.

Marck N.

Yelp
Where can you find okonomiyaki in one building? Over here. After reviewing the vendors online, I knew which one I wanted to try. I think this is a good choice for the gaijin to experience Hiroshima okonomiyaki. There are many vendors to choose from who want to make their customers happy. My partner hates okonomiyaki, but was a fan of the Hiroshima style.

Tea N.

Yelp
Honestly, I was pretty worried that this place would turn out to be another tourist trap (like dontobori street in Osaka ... all the okonomiyaki and takoyaki there suck)..but to my surprise this was a wonderful experience !!! There are 3 floors of okonomiyaki starting from the 2nd floor. We decided to start at the 4th floor and work our way down till we found something that caught our eye. The one we chose was on the 3rd floor called かずちゃん. We tried the okonomiyaki with scallop and added garlic on. You can add other toppings such as cheese or udon noodles instead lf soba...our order was a delicious blend of egg, yaki batter , soba noodles , bacon I think and scallops. Along with a delicious sauce and a ton of green onions. We threw a spicy chili oil on top and that made the dish even better !!!! See the pic Also ordered the ebichan yaki which is like a green onion, batter, and shrimp pancake (no lettuce ,bacon, noodles, like a okonomiyaki). Didn't really care for it too much as they had too much sauce on. Overall I was happy to see many locals here and glad it didn't turn out to be another tourist trap. Would definitely return to try another vendor!

Katie S.

Yelp
So amazing! You have to make this is a stop when coming to Hiroshima. The okonomiyaki is incredible. They take pancake batter and put it on a griddle, top it with cabbage and bean sprouts, bacon, and your choice of soba noodles or udon. They put an egg on the griddle, flip the entire pancake mixture on the egg (pancake side up) and put sauce all over it. It's heavenly.

Dawn D.

Yelp
Well worth the 15 minute walk from the Hiroshima Peace Museum. We ordered the special which included your choice of soba or udon noodles in addition to their standard cabbage, egg, bacon and squid filling. It's fun to see them make your order fresh. You can also add in other toppings like cheese, shrimp and oysters for an additional charge. This was a classic Hiroshima Okonomiyaki experience. The service was quick and the food really good. Recommend stopping in here if you are visiting Hiroshima.

Martin L.

Yelp
What an experience. The food is made in front of u and therefore fresh and delicious. Very local and unique. A must do if u are around. 3 floors of small kitchens. Just great. Btw: its from floor 2 to 4. So take the elevator to get there. Not so easy to find if u dont speak Japanese.

Larry N.

Yelp
This place is amazing...sit at the bar and watch them make your food. We ordered Okonomiyaki - and this was full of veggies - all super fresh. I also ordered pork belly and garlic - SO DELICIOUS I normally don't like Okonomiyaki because I didn't like it in Tokyo, where I once lived - but my wife says this is Osaka/Hiroshima style and its way better than what they make in Tokyo... Ya gotta go - its great.

Jocelyn C.

Yelp
Whoa. Three floors of selling the same stuff, more or less. That being said, I'm sure the product is similar no matter where you go, so don't fret. Maybe just some twists on okonomiyaki so that they are a little different! Prepare to be ushered into shops, but don't settle until you find one that looks to you! We just went to the fourth floor and sat at the one in front of the elevator, slightly right. It was delicious! If you are a big eater, get your own. If not, share one as it is a ton of food! Then go get some street food snacks and desserts in the shopping areas later!

Theresa T.

Yelp
I'm not sure which one I went to but it's on the far right on the 4th floor. I speak very limited Japanese and the gentlemen speaks limited English but we managed to understand each other. They have an English menu too so it helps. I chose the standard hiroshima okonomiyaki with bacon, soba and egg (810 yen) but there are many other options such as adding octopus, shrimp, oyster, etc at an extra cost. Everything is made to order and the food is cooked right in front of me which is pretty cool and fun. The okonomiyaki was cooked to perfection. The bacon was nice and crispy, soba cooked perfectly, and the egg was the right amount of doneness. The portion was very generous but sadly I wasn't able to finish it :( If you eat smaller portions like me, it's best if you go with another person.

Junai D.

Yelp
So I wandered into this area and decided to check it out since the other okonomiyaki place I was going to was under renovation. I was surprised to see that this is called the Okonomi Village and consists of 3 floors of nothing but Okonomiyaki vendors! Be the rebel that I am, I went for floor 3 rather than floor 2 (which was the first). It was around 4PM so it was a ghost town, but I wandered until I saw a vendor with an English menu and a friendly chef (is that what they are called?). It's a vendor on your right with a bunch of autographs on the wall. I think it was Takenoko. The chef didn't speak much English but he made an effort to ask me questions while he cooked up my okonomiyaki treat. I thought he was very nice and tried to converse in the little bit of Japanese that I knew (shame that good company is stopped by the language barrier). He did have a good chuckle when I said "gochisosamadeshita" at the end of my meal :P I ordered a noodle okonomiyaki with mochi and it came out to be 972, which was cheaper than I had calculated. I would recommend trying his okonomiyaki! He doesn't put too much sauce on it, but if that's your preference, he also gives you the sauce to put on top. I would definitely go back! Though the foodie in me tells me to try other vendors, I liked his personality :) Company makes the food taste better!

Eric P.

Yelp
I came here on the wrong day as 2 of the floors were reserved. That made for lines on the other floors but the wait for the okonomiyaki was worth it.

Jean L.

Yelp
Not sure if I thought my experience here was so-so because the okonomiura were so-so or if I just don't love okonomiura enough in general. This venue has three floors of okonomiura vendors, and in that sense the place is awesome. I think it's worth a visit, but don't expect the best cheap meal of your life. Hubs and I went to two different spots - one for the regular Hiroshima style (using thin flour noodles as a base under the cabbage and pancake and egg), and another place that had an udon noodle base. Both were kind of fun to watch but I thought too heavy on carbs and too light on seafood/toppings/egg. I actually liked the udon option because it felt less dense.

Dianna C.

Yelp
Guys and Girls, I'm convinced this place is okonomiyaki heaven. There are 3 whole dedicated floors to okonomiyaki vendors. Hiroshima was planned for the end of my 2 week Japan trip and I had yet to try this dish! Luckily for me the Airbnb I stayed at had bikes, so I biked her and found bike parking right outside near the shopping mall. When you get here, you will have a difficult time choosing which stand you want to sit at. We picked a random floor and walked around. Saw a ton of people at Shinchan, so we decided on that! It's on the second floor btw. The layout is a little silly, it doesn't start on floor 1, but floor 2, then 3, then 4. I ordered the Shinchan Special with soba noodles. You can also have it with udon noodles! I thought that was pretty cool. I wish I had enough stomach while traveling to eat triple what I can normally eat...my special okonomiyaki had really delicious squid in it. I was soo impressed with the quality and freshness. The thinly sliced bacon was also superb. Lots of fresh sliced cabbage and they even have a spicy sauce to go with your meal! I'll definitely want to be back again in the future to try a different vendor!

IM O.

Yelp
I really enjoyed this place. It seemed that places got a bit more hip and energetic the higher I climbed. There was a joint on the 4th floor that was absolutely hoppin'. Look for the yellow door flags. I ate at the place across from it and it was fantastic. I thought it was going to be touristic and a bit lame, but it was fantastic. Eat here.

Kenson K.

Yelp
A building filled with just okonomiyaki you say? Yes, it's true. This place is in a little unassuming building but easy to find as it has a large sign in the front. One wouldn't think of anything in here, but when the elevator doors open you are treated to a whaft of carby , porky aromas. Look online before you come here and you can have a hint of what types of okonomiyaki each vendor has. Quite frankly, they all taste the same to me, but I'm not an avid connoisseur so what do I know.

Edwin B.

Yelp
Our intended okonomiyaki place closed earlier than we expected so we set out to eat here with its late closing times. Well that turned out to be mostly a lie because there's 3 floors of okonimiyaki and there's no specific hours. The second and third floors were mostly closed by the time we got there and the fourth floor stalls were mostly open. I'm honestly not too sure who we picked to make food for us but they were courteous and offered us an English menu. This is Hiroshima style okonomiyaki which basically adds noodles to your standard plate of okonomiyaki. Not as big as a fan of this type but our seafood okonomiyaki was delicious nonetheless. Fresh shrimp and squid tossed on top of a crepe base with beansprouts, noodles, eggs, and sauce thrown on top. Tons of locals sitting around near these stalls and the building is rather run down in the middle of an alley.

P. H.

Yelp
This review is for the okonomiyaki place on the ground-floor directly off the street... I'm going to be honest and say right off that I'm not sure how this establishment is set up on Yelp - when we went there, it just looked like the one restaurant, but on yelp appears to be a whole building. ANYWAY, this okonomiyaki changed my life. It was possibly the best meal my friends and I had during our three-week stay in Japan. Watching the chefs make your food right in front of you really sets the Pavlovian salivation in motion - when we saw the oysters go down on the grill, we got so excited knowing that was our order and it would be out next. The portions are HUGE though, so either go on an empty stomach, or be prepared to share. We tried a different (fancier) okonomiyaki place that evening for dinner, and it didn't even come close to this quality. Even back in America now, I'm pining for that dish... will definitely be visiting again on my next trip!

Alyssa M.

Yelp
Delicious Hiroshima style okonomiyaki! The place we went to is located right outside on the left of okonomimura, and unfortunately I forgot the name... however, it had an English menu, which was helpful! The okonomiyaki itself was delicious and a generous portion.

Keiko M.

Yelp
Every time I go to Hiroshima, I visit this delicious village. Actually I know only one restaurant though. I forget which floor but the name is Atomdou. Always busy. Lots of cabbage and crispy outside and great balance amuse me.

Camille C.

Yelp
Ordered the crazy one with oysters on top, looked like their specialty. It was fine, but truth be told, I wasn't dazzled by any Okonomiyaki in my entire 3 week trip.... I think I just am not crazy about the stuff. I wished it had less... stuff on it ;). Didn't like the dark sauce they painted on the top in particular. haha. So take my review as a grain of salt. Otherwise the service was great, affordable, and easy to get a table. Nice place.

Andrew S.

Yelp
Lots of fun to be had here, especially for a tourist. Totally different food, floors of it in fact. Everyone was friendly, the food was interesting, nice and fast. We loved our visit here.

Anthony P.

Yelp
Disclaimer; I love okonomiyaki, especially Hiroshima style. Went here on a recommendation from a friend, and was not disappointed. Very easy to find with its huge brightly lit red sign. It's on floors 2-4, each that have 5-6 stalls that all sell okonomiyaki. Based on other reviews we read, we picked a crowded stall, but after we ordered I realized all our compatriots (except one) were western tourists, and that we were immediately in front of the elevator, so maybe not the best indication of quality. We shared 1 okonomiyaki (they are huge), plain pork for 700¥. We also got Miyajima oysters steamed in sake, and 2 draft beer. Overall food was very tasty and pretty cheap. Staff were friendly, spoke ok English (they also had English menu). Ambience is really where it's at though, if you like the hole in the wall feeling.

Nurse M.

Yelp
When we were in the Hiroshima , we had to tryout Hiroshima style okonomi yaki . Okonomi- mura is the place to go . There were so many okonomi venders in one building . We stopped 3 rd floor vender . We choose one vender that no one was waiting so we decided to try . My husband ordered oyster okonomi and it was delicious . Big local oysters in okonomiyaki . I'll definitely come back again .

Zachary S.

Yelp
Fantastic! We just randomly picked a floor in the elevator, and grabbed whichever place had 4 seats together for our group. We were not disappointed. Service was friendly and fun. It's great to sit around the cook top and watch the cooks in action. We were also lucky enough to be around when the Carps were in the playoffs and got to watch the game with the staff. Would go back in a second.

Cemone K.

Yelp
Kind of hard to review because this building consists off at least 15 if not more okonomiyaki places! For the record, if you don't know what this is, it's like a egg, meat and vegetable patty covered in a sweet sauce that reminds me of eel sauce or katsu sauce. They do it a little differently here by adding a layer of yakisoba and bean sprouts, and they are known for adding their Hokkaido oysters grilled in butter. We walked around till we found one with an English menu. It was called KaZuchan on the fourth floor, all the way to the right. We ordered the natto yaki (fermented soybean) and the grilled oyster okono yaki and asked for no pork... Which We weren't site if he understood so We told him again as he was placing the slices of pork on the griddle. We ordered a draft beer to but they gave us a hot sake instead lol . Nato is definitely an acquired taste but is better when cooked. Ours was packed with scallions and covered in dried nori so it was tasty. The grilled Hokkaido oysters are delicious! We had about six oysters on ours and the dish was also packed with bean sprouts, cabbage and noodles. It was good but I'm not a huge fan of this dish in general, I feel like it's something you eat after a night of drinking. But since the hubby liked it I find myself trying it in every province we visit. We struggled whole ordering and assumed no one understood English since no one spoke out. However, toward the end of our meal an Australian couple sat down and the chef busted out his English, asking the couple a ton of questions about their travels and what not, WTF?! Where was that English when we were struggling with our orders and asked for no pork? And he definitely understood "beer" as it sounds nothing like sake. Grrr. This definitely rubbed us the wrong way. Overall the food was good but with plenty of other places to choose from making the same exact dish, we will go else where with friendlier company next time.

Yelp
This place is FABULOUS!!!! The food is amazing. The plum wine is the best I have ever had. The staff is friendly. It's such fun to watch them prepare your meal. The place is pretty simple, no crazy decor, it's a place to eat, drink, watch a game (we watched baseball, Go Carps), and chill with friends. Awesome. Definitely worth a visit!

Yelp
5 stars for checking out this place. Very fun experience. Oysters dish at Chi-Chan was so tasty. The okonomiyaki with oyster on top was 4.5 stars. Went to another place and had their house special but just 3 stars for me. Still, fun place to visit.

Yelp
So this is my second okonomiyaki in Japan and I clearly see myself as some sort of expert now. But, for me this okonomiyaki didn't cut it. Okonomiyaki is kind of like a big omelette. Often it will be cooked in front of you on a hot counter, but Okonomimura is a large restaurant and there are only a few seats in front of the chefs. I got the special, which came with scallops, prawns and shrimp. The flavours were good and there was loads of cabbage which I like. However, I found the whole dish very dry which was disappointing as the last okonomiyaki I had was so moist and creamy and delicious.

Yelp
Absolutely amazing okonomiyaki. Perfectly cooked. Not over stuffed with anything. The soba noodles were flavorful and nicely made. Long line, but worth the wait. I've been to 3 or 4 different places in here and I like this one the best.

Yelp
Great place. 3-4 floors of the same fricking looking establishments - 6 to a floor. Whats girl to do? Well, some will be empty and other will have a brunch of drunken guys parti-ing while others will have family and or couples. I went with the charms ladies running the establish on the 3rd floor you see as the elevators door opens and greet you with a welcoming warm air conditioned smile. Even though I'm single guy loaded down with shit I brought from Costco while drenched in sweat from a hot August afternoon of sightseeing. You're like family even when you reek. I love this place!
