Impressive active volcano ( sagred for the Masai) of white lava that reaches about 2700m It's best to hike overnight the 1600 mt to the top to see the Sunrise over Kilimanjaro and Mt Meru Can be hiked up without technical equipment. Good and stable boots are recommended, and a lot of water Amazing views from top

This is by far the hardest hike (climb is actually a better word) I have ever done, physically but mainly mentally. I have intermediate hiking experience. The climb (especially the last part before the summit) is very steep and technical. Because of this we went pretty slow so physically it was hard but doable. However, the mental part was very hard. This climb is not for the faint hearted and is dangerous as there are no safety ropes. In Europe this would have been a via ferata or klettersteig route. In total it took us almost 12 hours. If a local tells you that this hike is easy or intermediate, don't believe that because they only want your money. The views were amazing and the crater itself is also beautifull. This made it all worth it, but please be warned that this a very demanding hike. I don't want to demotivate anyone, I just want to write a realistic review. If you like such a challenge: enjoy this adventurous hike! If you're afraid of heights: it might be smart to skip this one.

Incredible experience, I would highly recommend but it’s not for the faint hearted. The climb takes place at night and is very steep. You get to the summit for sunrise and the views are stunning. I was unprepared for the hike with no walking stick and having to use my phone torch as a light. Pack plenty of layers as the summit gets quite cold. I’d recommend having a rest day after as its very tiring

The views from the top are incredible. Having said that, even though we're a couple of experienced hikers, this hike was so much hardship that it's not fun anymore. It can be dangerous as well, especially for the rolling rocks from other hikers in the front. Moreover it's extremely overpriced.

Probably the hardest hike I have ever attempted. However, the reward seeing mini explosions at the volcano at sunrise was completely worth it. At the top it is extremely windy, thus freezing, take some extra layer to be on the safe side. The hike is also quite dangerous as the steepest parts are about 50°, and the safety ropes don't exist. One bad step and you can become a statistic. Considering that the hike permit alone cost 93-123 USD per person, adding safety rope should be a must.

Here's the price breakdown for more than one person: $35usd gates entry pp 35*2=$70 Wildlife management authority (35 per day per person to stay in the area) $70 mountain to go up $30 food and accommodation per person for two nights $40-50 vehicle (80-100 for the 4wd and driver for the night) $20 Tip for guide 23,000 ts each way by bus, 6hrs to Arusha. Going back you will be standing because the bus will be full. The temperature in the village will make it impossible to sleep. The bus ride back is torture and takes 6 hrs. You'll be the only foreigners there. Seeing the lava at sunrise on that steep volcano is worth it.

One of the active volcanos in the world. It is the coolest lava in the world with 510 degrees centigrade to 600 degrees centigrade. The last eruption was September 2007 to April 2008. It is the right place for hikers.
