Old Capital Bike Inn

"Bangkok’s first true B&B, the eight-room inn is run by a warm, well-traveled proprietress and her son, who guides guests to the hippie-chic nightlife along Khao San Road. There are four room types, each with its own charm: The bath products in Rice make the best souvenirs, Lemongrass comes with an enchanting tropical garden, Jasmine has painted murals, and Orchid a four-poster bed. Wi-Fi access, AC, and powerful showers in the bathrooms make travelers wonder if they’ve set foot in an urban myth of clean, charming, and affordable accommodations. Guests can augment the inexpensive room rate with a small contribution, matched by the hotel, to four worthy charities."

Old Capital Bike Inn, Bangkok, Thailand - Explore & Book

"Opened in 2005, this was one of the city's first boutique guesthouses. Thoughtfully converted from a 1940s shophouse, it sits on Ratanakosin Island in the middle of Bangkok's historic quarter and has been in the care of the owners' family for 7 generations. It's still arguably its homeliest place to stay, and the warm service from owner, Khun Jason, and his small team is second-to-none. You really are treated like old friends from the moment you walk through the door. Stepping into the tearoom-esque lobby is to be transported into a laidback but classy olde-worlde realm. Jazzy guitar music plays, ornate birdcages from Chiang Mai stand tall, and much of the structure came from Ayuthaya, Thailand’s ancient capital (now specialising in reclaimed teak from dismantled old Central Thai wooden houses). There are 10 charmingly unique rooms with antique hanging oil lamps, hand-painted porcelain washbasins and cute murals. Drift around the corridors and you'll find a glass walkway directly under a roof skylight, to naturally light as much of the hotel as possible, and tree-root-like banisters. Borrow one of their beautiful vintage bikes and explore the capital's cultural delights, or join one of the hotel's fantastic night bike tours to see the city after dark. For an affordable, friendly stay in the heart of Bangkok, you won't find any better. Highs A genuine sanctuary hidden on a quiet street away from the hustle and bustle of Bangkok Impressively blends old-world charm with modern touches, so no sacrifice in comfort Home-away-from-home ambiance with personal helpful service. Chances are owner Khun Jason will be behind the reception to offer great advice and recommendations Impressive green credentials - charity donations at check-in matched by the hotel, solar heating, bedding and towels changed upon request, no throwaway toiletries to name a few Close to Bangkok's main historical landmarks: the Golden Mountain temple is opposite; the Grand Palace and Emerald Buddha are a 20-minute walk Lows There's long-term construction work opposite the hotel, so expect some noise during the day and dust outside. Saying this, work stops by the evening and it didn't impact our stay at all Although all rooms are lovingly conceived, some are small, lighting can be subdued, the stairs to mezzanines are steep and creeky, and storage can be limited Limited outdoor space and no onsite pool, though guests can use a neighbouring hotel's pool for a very small fee A little far from Bangkok's main shopping areas such as Sukhumvit" - Marta Purwin

This was our first time visiting Thailand and we felt so welcome and well looked after. We had a 24 hour journey to get to Bangkok, so we were exhausted on arrival to the hotel. The refreshing towels, welcome drink and snack was absolutely what we needed! |Jason and the team are so friendly and full of local information and suggestions. Sadly we only spent two nights here as we had an onward journey, but our stay was exceptional. The room was comfortable, the breakfasts are absolutely phenomenal, location very convenient and the little gifts were much appreciated. We were able to leave our luggage after checking out so we could explore more of Bangkok before heading to our train. The offer of a refreshing shower when we collected our luggage later was so thoughtful. Old Capital Bike Inn knows how to do Thai hospitality really well. If we’re ever in Bangkok again, this will definitely be our hotel of choice again.|Thank you Jason and all the staff, we loved our stay and appreciated all you did.

The staff are wonderful. So helpful and breakfast was excellant. I'm vegan so was excited that they had delicious vegan options. |The bed and linens were comfortable, sort of Japanese style low to the floor. I like this style of bed and feel it's a much more natural way of sleeping. I slept very well during my stay. |I had an early flight, a staff member aarranged a takeaway breakfast. |The shower was heavenly. Nice and warm with plenty of water. |I enjoyed my stay here and would stay again. |I had a loft room which I absolutley loved. But if I had been traveling with my husband who has health issues affecting his knees and feet this would not have been a good room due to the stairs. |Oh and I almost forgot, they have bikes to borrow. And they do a free bike tour twice a week. I regret not taking advantage of this.

My adult daughter and I spent three nights in the twin room. It’s a unique and thoughtfully run inn. We were very comfortable in our 1st floor room and could have spent more time there - but there was so much to do :) The inn is a great base to explore from. We used a lot of public transport (boat and bus). We loved the made to order breakfast, the massage, and while I’d recommend doing the evening bike tour when you start your stay, it was a real treat to revisit the old town by night before flying out the next morning. Warm thanks to the very attentive team.

We had a lovely four night stay here on our first visit to Bangkok. The staff were a stand out, so helpful and friendly, gave great suggestions for places to visit and transport options - we used canal boats, river ferries and the MTS Skytrain. We stayed in the garden suite which was lovely, if slightly cramped with two big suitcases, but quiet and comfortable. It’s a great area to stay with lots of attractions within walking distance or via Grab. It took our taxi two hours to get to the airport on an early Friday evening so plan well ahead! All in all, highly recommended and thanks to Jason and crew.

This is a very atmospheric period property that oozes charm of a bygone age. The owners are very attentive and cook breakfast to order, which include both Thai and international options. There are some roadworks across but there was no noise coming into our room which was facing the Main Street because the owner installed soundproof windows. The owners were keen to advise about places to go and restaurants to visit, which were really good. I would definitely come again!

Old Capital Bike Inn is the pinnacle of hospitality. The reservation team, the staff that welcomed us, the many suggestions and help with navigation - it was incredible. Thank you. The breakfast was a feast and we couldn't get enough of the Thai desserts. The room was beautiful, with such beautiful furniture and style. The extras included a stocked fridge, little notes, great lists of recommendations (of which we tried many! And all was great!) and everything one needs. The attention to detail is second to none. Thank you Jason and his super team for making our stay in Bangkok so memorable. We can't wait to come back!

Staying here was one of the highlights of our trip. The room was just so cool — cats and bikes! — and the staff is so wonderful. The bike ride is not for the faint of heart: I bike everywhere and don’t drive, but even I was terrified of Thailand streets. Still, with Jason leading, I knew I was safe. The vegan breakfast was huge and delicious. Be warned: it’s easy to eat too much for breakfast and not have room for lunch. But so worth it. Thank you for a memorable stay!

Staying at the Bike Inn is always such a treat. Jason and his team are so wonderful. The rooms are beautiful and super comfortable, the location is perfect, the breakfast is amazing. Sad to leave every time, but I'll be back soon.
