How to Visit Bangkok on a Budget

"Old Capital Bike Inn is a heritage hotel located a 10-minute walk from the Golden Mount (Wat Sa Ket Ratchaworamahawihan). It features 10 rooms with a bicycle theme. Complimentary nighttime bicycle tours and loaner bikes provide a free and fun alternative to tuk-tuks and motorbike taxis." - Margot Bigg Margot Bigg Margot Bigg is a freelance travel writer and editor who has spent most of her adult life traveling and living overseas. Old Capital Bike Inn

"Bangkok’s first true B&B, the eight-room inn is run by a warm, well-traveled proprietress and her son, who guides guests to the hippie-chic nightlife along Khao San Road. There are four room types, each with its own charm: The bath products in Rice make the best souvenirs, Lemongrass comes with an enchanting tropical garden, Jasmine has painted murals, and Orchid a four-poster bed. Wi-Fi access, AC, and powerful showers in the bathrooms make travelers wonder if they’ve set foot in an urban myth of clean, charming, and affordable accommodations. Guests can augment the inexpensive room rate with a small contribution, matched by the hotel, to four worthy charities."

We only stayed three nights but those were awesome. The hotel is located in Old Town and offers a great starting point to explore bangkok. The hotel itself is cozy, stylish and welcoming. The rooms are super clean and offer everything you could ask for. The breakfast is on another level. Offering something for every taste and prepared with love and care. ||But the real highlight was the host (jason) and his team, its them who make this place really special. They are genuinely interested in how you are and what you have planned for the day. Staff always had great recommendations and always asked how our plans worked out. Jason even had curated suggestions for other regions in thailand ready as handouts (thats what I call dedication). ||From weeks before arrival, when I reached out to organize airport transfer, to the last minute we felt we were in good hands. Thank you jason and team for the pleasant stay! We will come back :)

Old Capital Bike Inn is the pinnacle of hospitality. The reservation team, the staff that welcomed us, the many suggestions and help with navigation - it was incredible. Thank you. The breakfast was a feast and we couldn't get enough of the Thai desserts. The room was beautiful, with such beautiful furniture and style. The extras included a stocked fridge, little notes, great lists of recommendations (of which we tried many! And all was great!) and everything one needs. The attention to detail is second to none. Thank you Jason and his super team for making our stay in Bangkok so memorable. We can't wait to come back!

We had a delightful stay at Old Capital Bike Inn. The staff was warm and welcoming and very knowledgeable about the area. They were all extremely helpful in helping us plan our site seeing, dinners, and needed transportation. The breakfast was delicious, and we loved the decor of the hotel. We would stay there again and recommend to others traveling to Bangkok.

The hospitality at the Old Capital Bike Inn was the best I have ever experienced, anywhere in the world. The room (garden suite) was very comfortable and we weren't disturbed by the construction noise. You could hear it during the day sometimes, but it wasn't that loud. And the owner had warned us of the noise ahead of time, which I appreciated, even though it wasn't an issue for us. I'm glad we chose the garden suite because it had the daybed for my daughter and more room. The room had everything we needed, including drinking water. The only drawback was that the shower is on the smaller size. Breakfast was delicious, especially the Thai doughnuts, and it was lovely taking about 10 steps from our room to breakfast every morning and enjoying a latte or two. There is a lot of construction going on in the neighborhood, but I liked the location. Every time we used Grab, the taxi was there within a few minutes. But we also were able to walk to a lot of the tourist sites, like the Grand Palace.

This was a wonderful quirky place to stay. The staff were so sweet and helpful. The bedroom was lovely with free standing bath and a tiny courtyard. The little cafe at the front was very nice and breakfast was excellent.|Staying here was a refreshing change from the big boring hotels in Bangkok

Absolutely the friendliest staff we've come across! I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this place to anyone, with gorgeous rooms, lovely breakfast and incredibly generous staff! I absolutely loved staying here. Currently because of construction they say it is loud but you can hardly hear it from the rooms, if at all!

I couldn’t have wished for a better experience for my first solo trip! Jason and the whole team were incredibly thoughtful, from recommending me vegetarian spots nearby, to talking through my day in the mornings and giving advice on how best to travel/what else I could do - I felt fully comfortable and taken in. The Inn itself is just charmingly beautiful, my Garden Suite was an oasis to come back to with the sweetest messages left every night from the team! The breakfast served in their cosy lobby was delicious and they were super accommodating to my requests due to my dietary preferences - was the perfect way to start the day.||I really recommend to anyone that stays to sign up for the Bike Tour. Hands down was one of my favourite things I did in the city - so much fun cycling through the narrow streets and round the temples at night. Was just awesome. ||Even though it’s been a couple of months since I’ve stayed I still think about the Inn!! If I am lucky enough to return to Bangkok this would be the first place I’d go : )
