Old Chengdu Cafe

This is my new favorite Chinese restaurant in the Syracuse area. So far the Dry Noodle dish is my favorite. It’s a combination of the egg/tomato and pork noodle dishes. The name continues to confuse everyone I bring since the bowl is like 1/3 filled with some kind of broth, but I love the dish. The waiter is nice and answers any questions I’ve had. I’ll continue coming here in the future and look forward to trying a bunch of new dishes.

The food was really good we liked everything we ate. We really enjoyed the noodles I think they should capitalize on noodle dishes! The service was fine to me. I mean in the end, who cares as long as you get good cleanly food...

It is said to be open on Google maps but when we arrived it was not. If you're going on holiday or after hours, you'd better check their food delivery site rather than here for the most accurate open time.

Food is ok. We ordered some Szechuan cuisine dishes and some noodle. Actually the cook is not from Szechuan province and he is more specialized in Shanxi noodles. He bought the restaurant from the previous owner who was specialized at Szechuan cuisine, but the new owner still wants to attract the old customers and he doesn’t want to change the food style of the restaurant. It is hard to tell if Szechuan food is good or not because the hot spicy flavor can hide the original flavor of the food material. Another problem is that they charge transaction fee if you pay by credit. And they don’t tell you in advance. This is a kind of way to avoid some tax. If you pay by cash they don’t charge this kind of fee. This is not a professional way to do business. Other Chinese restaurant normally will serve you some hot Chinese tea when you first seated, but this restaurant doesn’t. Only if you ask they would give you two cups of tap water.

Amazing authentic Chinese food if you are a fan of noodle or spicy food.

Although the food may not be up to the top level, it is really cheap enough.

During my recent visit to Old Chengdu Cafe, I had an unfortunate encounter with a waiter who wore glasses, and I must say it greatly impacted my overall experience. The service provided by this particular individual was subpar and left a lasting negative impression on me, making me reluctant to consider a return visit. From the moment I interacted with the waiter, I sensed a lack of professionalism and attentiveness. He appeared disinterested in assisting me and failed to provide the level of service one would expect from a dining establishment. Requests for recommendations or clarifications were met with indifference, as if it were a burden to provide basic assistance to customers. Furthermore, the waiter's communication skills were severely lacking. He seemed disengaged and unresponsive, making it difficult to convey my preferences or ask questions about the menu. His dismissive attitude and lack of interest in ensuring a satisfactory dining experience were disheartening. As a patron, I believe that exceptional service is an integral part of any dining experience. The waiter's disregard for customer satisfaction and his unprofessional behavior tarnished what could have been an enjoyable visit to Old Chengdu Cafe. It is my sincere hope that the management of Old Chengdu Cafe addresses this issue promptly. Training and empowering their staff to provide attentive and customer-focused service would greatly enhance the overall dining experience for patrons. As it stands, I cannot recommend Old Chengdu Cafe to others based on this disappointing encounter with the waiter.

I recently visited Old Chengdu Cafe and unfortunately had a very disappointing experience. The service provided by the waiter or owner was extremely poor, to say the least. It left such a negative impression on me that I have no desire to return to the restaurant in the future. From the moment I arrived, it was evident that the staff lacked basic courtesy and hospitality. The waiter or owner with glasses seemed disinterested and unresponsive to my needs. The overall attitude displayed was unprofessional and unwelcoming, which greatly impacted my dining experience. Moreover, the lack of attentiveness and poor communication made it difficult to place my order and ask for recommendations. It felt as though my presence was an inconvenience to them, and they showed little interest in ensuring my satisfaction as a customer. As someone who values good service, I found the behavior of the waiter or owner to be unacceptable. Customer service plays a crucial role in creating a positive dining experience, and unfortunately, Old Chengdu Cafe fell short in this aspect. Regrettably, due to this unfavorable encounter, I cannot recommend Old Chengdu Cafe to others. It's disheartening to have such a negative experience at a restaurant, especially when the food and ambiance may have been appealing. However, the lack of professionalism and poor service overshadowed any potential positives. I hope that Old Chengdu Cafe takes this feedback constructively and works towards improving their customer service. Ensuring a pleasant and enjoyable dining experience should be a priority for any establishment.

This has all of the marks of a great local Szechuan restaurant in all of its authenticity. In all honesty, this may be a difficult place to navigate if you do not know or are not accompanied by a native Chinese speaker, as a great deal of the menu is poorly translated (probably Google translated) and a lot of it gets lost in translation (a lot of giggles from us). The workers do not speak too much English, and it is very much self serve for a lot of parts (i.e. get up for your own drinks). We tried a variety of dishes including boiled spicy fish - loved this, had plenty of different things besides the fish including some napa, mung bean noodle, etc. We also had stir fry eggplant/pepper/potato which was decent but not as good as from Hometown Memory, a cold tofu appetizer which was good, crispy szechuan chicken which was also tasty. Our favorite dish was the twice cooked pork, which was delicious! Stir fry dry pot was plentiful in its portion size but some of the ingredients were not our favorite (had intestine in it which we will request to omit or substitute in the future). Overall, portion sizes were generous and everything was tasty. Would definitely come back

I don't have a way to respond to the reviewer who said this place isn't Chinese. I assure you that it is. This person went into the restaurant next door. Just to note, although authentic, they do not serve Cantonese food there. Also, most of the staff here do not speak English nor Cantonese (calling it well is an understatement). So, don't be too surprised if they will not take your order over the phone, especially during their busy hours. This place can be absolutely packed. As for a review for Old Cheng Du, since my experience there is very limited so far and I have only eaten their food through takeout, I'll reserve an extensive review for now. That being said, the item I did order was a snack/appetizer made out of leek and meat in a pocket (will update with a name when I find out). They came in two and they were very good. The place within the Asian market down down the road (changed hands since) used to sell that as well for a bit cheaper.

Very authentic, no frills and delicious! Open minded diners who like spicy food will love it here.

I am only reviewing for food delivery! I have not been to the actual store front. Tips: The online menu is not fully accurate, I would recommend grabbing a menu from the store or finding someone who speaks Mandarin chinese to speak to someone on the phone about the menu. Accepts credit card for delivery! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ One night my boyfriend and I were itching for some food delivery because we didn't have time to cook dinner. We heard good things about Old Chengdu so we decided to order some delivery from them. I have no complaints! The food came very hot and quickly (20-25 minutes). The delivery man accepts credit card so you don't have to worry about carrying cash for delivery. I ordered the garlic eggplant, boiled szechuan fish, and cold peanut noodles. Overall the food tasted great and felt very authentic. Garlic Eggplant: Pretty good eggplant dish! Not the best I've had, but decent taste. Boiled Szechuan Fish: I would highly recommend this dish. There is a large amount of fish in the dish and the flavor is delicious! Cold peanut Noodles: The noodles were nice and chewy with the right amount of peanut flavor. Would recommend.

Called to order pick up and he said "no English" and laughed and hung up the phone. He knew enough English to tell a customer he wouldn't provide service and laugh. I guess you need to learn to speak Chinese to order here. Bad business.

Authentic SzeChuan(a province in China) food. If you want the real authentic Chinese food, come here. I am Chinese and I grew up in Szechuan (or SiChuan), and I personally vouch for every item they have on the menu. They all tastes amazing for me. I have no idea what it would be like if you are used to American styled Chinese food or if you grew up in US, but I guarantee you there will be something you really enjoy. Go for the recommendations they have on the menu. Try "double cooked meat","spicy diced chicken", or "mapo tofu", or anything. This is one of those restaurant that only serves great and fresh food. The price will be higher, about the price of a fine dinner. Their service is nice and friendly. They also do delivery. If you happen to have Chinese currency and Wechat on your phone, they accept payments in that too. If you are an international Chineses student, I am surprised why you even need this review to tell you this place, just go there. 苟利国家生死以，岂因福祸避趋之。

The restaurant isn't actually Chinese, this is a traditional Korean restaurant. This was my first time trying traditional Korean cuisine and I have to save I fell in love at first bite. The restaurant is pretty small being built into what I can only imagine someone actually house. The staff are super friendly, always cheery, have a nice smile, and are very insightful, and very helpful. When you first sit down you'll be served some appraisers after being waited on and after having placed your order. Being my second time here one of the dishes was swapped out with something new. Originally we got these delicious savory kidney beans in a very tasty and umami flavored brown sauce. We also got this delicious and savory cold potato dish as well also very delicious and savory butting with umami. We also got a dish of traditional kimchi which was very delightful. It wasn't as spicy as I anticipated but that was also very delicious. And our last small dish appraiser served was what I believed to be a sort of picketed root vegetable? That was also very delicious and tangy with a delicious hint of spice. The first time I came here I ordered a spicy squid dish served hot over a leaf of romaine lettuce I believe. It was very delicious and reminded me almost of a calamari except not in ring shapes. The sauce was bursting with flavors I believe gochujang chili, and was very spicy and very delicious. You absolutely must order the Korean pancakes the pajun. I got the kimchi ones and they were absolutely mind blowingly delicious!!! The second time I came here I got a classic hot bibimbap dish with shrimp. This was served in a traditional stone bowl served sizzling hot. The white sticky rice is always amazing here as well. My bibimbap dish came with a nice helping of rice, delicious bean sprouts, shredded carrots, romaine lettuce, shrimp, shredded potato I believe, and topped with a fried egg. My friend got on my recommendation the beef bulgogi / bul goh ki and he loved the flavors of the marinate and the tender delicious morsels of beef. I cannot recommend this place enough, the food, and staff, and pricing are all perfect I'm my opinion. Also don't forget the Kim Bob, I almost forgot! Got both times and have to say it's become another favorite of mine.

I have ordered food from there for a year. Not every, but alway though. This is 100% traditional Chinese cuisine, and food are solid awesome. The main chief is from Xi an city, China, which is one of the city with a lot of tasty food. I can promise the taste is absolutely authentic. If you wanna have one, ask staff to cook a traditional style of Chinese food. If you prefer sweet and sour, having a American type of Chinese food is also fine. Good restaurant.

Extremely good food. Favorite Sichuan restaurant in Syracuse. Forget what it was called on the menu, but I recommend the big bowl of boiled fish. Lots of pieces of fish plus noodles and other good stuff. Large enough to be lunch for two people.

This place has really awesome food. The owners seem enthusiastic about delivering high-quality authentic food, but there are plenty of approachable favorites. The boiled spicy fish was among some of the best I've ever had: really great spice and aroma. Also had the traditional hot friend chicken stuff. It was quite nice, a bit less spicy than at another place I've tried, but very good still. I haven't really had anything bad from this place.

This restauraunt is owned by a Chinese family and has authentic and delicious Chinese (mostly Sichuan and Shaanxi) food. The flavor of the hotpot cauliflower is particularly good, and the potatoes in the braised chicken are amazingly delicious! The leek pancake is homemade and absolutely fabulous. The people at the restauraunt are so nice. When we told them how much we enjoyed the wonderful green tea, we were even given some tea leaves to take home with us!! This is definitely one of the best Chinese restauraunts we've discovered outside China. Highly recommended!!!

Very good authentic Chinese food. They don't have a liquor license so byob if you wish.
