This is a free museum run by volunteers in the heart of Old Colorado City. It's worth going in at least once to check out and read up on some of the history of Colorado Springs. I learned a lot including how railroad workers used to slide down the Cog Railway on their butts to get home faster, a method that lead to some interesting innovations (and injuries). They take donations but it's not required.

This is a volunteer-run free museum. It's a smaller museum, with a lot of neat exhibits and Colorado history packed in (mostly 19th century local history). Family friendly, and no lines! There are several restaurants down the block (Slice 420 Pizza, Bon Ton's Cafe, Italian Bistro, Greek Taverna, etc)--stop for lunch and then spend an hour or two at the museum. Also check their online calendar for local events. They also have a bookstore, and a collection of West Word ("westward") history journals you can browse through. Be aware they have shortened winter hours. They take donations, please consider dropping a couple bucks in the donation box.

Great display of historical artifacts from the 1800-1900s accompanied by historical texts from the early developments of old Colorado city and the surrounding springs area. If you're a local and haven't visited this museum it's a must to learn more about your home and if you're a tourist even more reason to visit to discover the amazing history behind this wonderful place.
