Just stepped in the place, you feel travel back in time. It's very nice a cozy. The service was great. The waitress was kid and warm with smiles. The food was perfect. The portion was big. It took a bot long to get our food, but I guess that's normal if you expect your food to been freshly prepared.

Great meal. The fish was enough to feed several people.

We loved being taken here by my sister in law when visitingfrom nz. The food and atmosphere are great. My sister in law also took a from ours who was in Germany to visit her son. She also loved the food and atmosphere as much as we did.

Old commercial room is the restaurant with a very good atmosphere and high food quality. Although the price is a little bit expensive, overall it really worths the price. We can get different traditional German food, including the North German food: Aalsuppe, Labskaus and Scholle Finkenwerder Art. If you order Labskaus, you can get a certificate in the end. The Labskaus here is more delicious than most of the choices in Hamburg.

This is a German classic! My first time there this past week was for a client dinner, but I can assure you that I’ll be back when I visit Hamburg. The service was really good, the food was outstanding and the ambiance is classic Hamburg. For food, I recommend the skin-on Pig Knuckle (if you haven’t had one) which is big enough to feed a family of 4. If you’re trying to be a bit healthier, the Hamburg fish trio is really nice and I was able to sub out the fried potatoes for the potato dumplings, which are delicious! If you haven’t tried Labskaus yet, then you should start with it as an appetizer for the table. It’s not the prettiest looking, but it is really tasty and not something you can get in many places. If your dining mates are shy, get it as your main and they’ll be jealous!

Google
Old Commercial Room is really the place to go when you wanna try traditional Hamburg local options. This was a recommendation from a local friend and I'm so glad and thankful it! From the wall of fame to restaurant ship-like decor finishing on an absolutely delicious Labskaus (in the picture) this is definitely a must try in Hamburg!

Yelp
We had a large group of 20 for dinner. The service was outstanding. Our waitress was very patient in dealing with such a large group and separate checks to boot. The food was excellent. Very large schnitzel servings.. Loved the interior.

Yelp
When in Hamburg you must try the Hamburger Labskaus my tour guide said and he recommended this as the place to do it. Personally I found the Labskaus pretty good, kind of like a corned beef hash and didn't have it anywhere else in Hamburg but I did have Bremer Labskaus a few days later from a street stand behind St Peters church that I think was both better and half the price. The restaurant was pretty empty and service was good. I was reminded service wasn't included when I paid which I guess is a reminder in Germany to tip.

Yelp
The restaurant has an old feel to it. The walls are covered with famous people that have visited the restaurant the menu has a list of famous people that sat at the different tables (by the table #). I had the red beer based off of another yelp recommendation. It was delicious! A must try. Sweeter compared to the beers I like with an IPA aftertaste. I started out with the lobster bisque and it was very good. No lobster chunks in it like at most upscale restaurants. There is dried shrimp instead. Still a very good dish. For entry, I had the beef tips in curry sauce and rice. The flavor was very mild compared to what I am used to with. Kind of bland for a curry, but still tasty. If it was spicier, I think it would have been perfect.

Yelp
This is where you go to eat some hardcore German food. And by hardcore, I mean huge, heavy portions that will leave you feeling completely stuffed. The interior of the Old Commercial Room feels like the inside of an old ship, with dark wood paneling, dim old-fashioned lighting, and dark wooden tables and booths. There are photos throughout the restaurant that show off famous people who have dined here before, as well as a sheet of paper where you can see which tables they sat at, which is kind of neat! Their signature dish is labskaus, which was described to me as "a mashup of all the leftovers on a ship." Essentially it features salted meat mashed together with potatoes and onion, served with pickles, fried eggs, and optionally a salted herring (extra charge). Apparently this is a dish that Hamburg is known for. And in fact, it's quite a decent dish, though very much on the heavy side. I wouldn't recommend the side of herring, which is very intensely flavored, unless you're really into salted fish. Oh and the best part: If you finish the dish, you even get a certificate - a "labskaus diploma"! Aside from labskaus, the other dishes are also quite hefty. Also available on the menu was a gigantic schnitzel and a gigantic fried fish -- I guess everything here comes in super sized portions. Prices are higher than typical in Hamburg, but the portions are so large (did I mention that already?) that I suppose it works out. It's all quite tasty, though difficult to finish your heaping plate of food, so don't eat too much before you get here!

Yelp
Apparently Charlie Sheen has dined here! They have a list of all the famous people that dined there along with the table number where they sat. This place as an old type décor and usually very well frequented by a much older crowd. The place is a nice and different experience and they have an extensive menu. They have lots of seafood options but get ready because the prices are a little high. I got the lunch special, herring and potatoes and it was delicious with nice size portions. My colleague got the portabella mushroom with cauliflower and other vegetables. That dish was delicious as well! Nice place to go for dinner the prices are a bit high for lunch.

Yelp
We attempted to visit The Old Commercial Room while we were in Hamburg. We walked in without a reservation, and although there were several other groups also walking in without a reservation when we said we didn't have one the host sighed audibly and rolled his eyes at us, then told us to follow him and sat us immediately so I have no idea what the problem was. The ambiance is undeniably cool - lots of stuff that looks like it could have been brought in off boats from all over the world over the years in a very neat building with lots of rooms. The menus on the outside of the restaurant, however, are not representative of the prices of the meals - it's considerably more expensive than advertised and I would be shocked, after looking at the server stations, if they took credit cards. (But you never know.) We waited for over ten minutes without menus or service before someone saw us and plopped a menu over our heads without stopping to ask if they could get us anything. Although the menu was in German, we knew enough to have a general idea of what everything was and what we wanted. However, it's easier to order in English if we can so we asked the server, when he came by about twenty minutes after we'd been seated, if he spoke any English. He looked panicky, said no, and even though we said it was OK before we could just order in German he ran off mumbling about finding a colleague who spoke English. We waited another twenty to twenty five minutes with no sign of anyone to help us and then decided to go somewhere where they wanted our business.

Yelp
It's not a steak house but would be a second cousin to Keen's Steakhouse in New York with respect to decor and feel. This place is substantial and serves up German comfort food that feels as if waiter has wrapped you in a nice, warm cashmere blanket. If it's your first time to The Old Commercial Room, then I would like to recommend the Labskaus, a culinary specialty from Northern Germany and in particular from the cities of Bremen, Lübeck, and Hamburg. The main ingredients are salted meat or corned beef, potatoes, and onion. Some recipes put beetroot, pickled gherkin, or even herring into it, while others have these ingredients as side orders. I heartily recommend you visit The Old Commercial Room when next you're in Hamburg, especially if you're visiting in the Winter.

Yelp
Food was great BUT the service left a lot to be desired. 5 of us all ordered the schnitzel.... With pepper sauce/gravy. 4 showed up pretty quickly. Huge portion. Unfortunately the 5th came 10 mins later! Along with one gravy. We ordered another gravy and never showed up. Had to ask 3 times and then we got a small gravy. Might sound minor but when you get your meals at different times and piecemeal, it's kind of disappointing. Same problem with ordering drinks. Oh well. Will probably give them one more chance in the future in case we just got unlucky.

Yelp
The Old Commercial Room is located just a stone throw await from the St. Michael church and offers an antique touch as well as plenty pictures of famous people on the wall. I believe, it is a good location for having some drinks and a bit of traditional, local food. However, do not expect dishes of high quality. We were in a group of six and only one or two of us had no complaints Therefore and in comparison to other locations in Hamburg, I think the price does not match the quality. In addition, the allocated waiter was not very responsive and friendly either (but maybe only a bad day during a week in January with very little business/tips). Tip: if you try our Hamburger Labskaus, order it without Hering! The extra price is not worth to get a small little peace of Hering alongside the Labskaus better enjoy the fish in a location near the harbour!

Yelp
Die Bedienung war etwas träge, vielleicht etwas hochnäsig aber alles in allem gut. Essen war lecker aber die Matjes etwas sehr klein. Länger schwimmen lassen bitte.

Yelp
Solid 5 star. The beef with patotoe dumplings and red cabbage was amazing, best I've had in Germany. Schnitzel wad also great. The portions are huge, even by German standards. The red beer was out of this world. Service was top notch. Ask for English menu.

Yelp
If you're American, be prepared to feel unwanted. We were a group of 6 business professionals asking for a table for dinner. When they said they were fully booked, we thanked the host, closed the door, but stayed in the stairwell to stay warm while we looked for another option on the phone. Moments, and I mean moments, later a young girl came out saying that her manger told her to ask us to leave the area. We weren't loud, rowdy or anything. Her manager was too scared to ask Hine self, so he sent a 16 YO?? Why would anyone support a place like this?

Yelp
This has been a restaurant since 1795 and the decor is quite like a ship, with many ship pictures. To me it has the feel of an old English pub, a bit on the dark, woody side. The food is quite good - my wife had the vegetarian lunch which was well presented and quite good. I had pasta with shrimp which was also quite good. The fish selections are interesting choices. The restaurant got its name because Hamburg's merchants would go here after church for lunch. It's worth going to get a good feel for "Old Hamburg" ambience - also just across the street from the church. We were there for lunch and it was not crowded and the service was fine. It does get busy for dinner, so maybe better for a casual lunch.
