Stayed 2 nights last weekend on a climbing trip. The staff were friendly and helpful. Cooked Breakfasts and Fish &chips at dinner were excellent. The Pub has great character with open fire and lots of people with dogs.

Best roast potatoes ever! But we were 18 years old and camping nearby in the middle of winter. They brought out a tray of potatoes from the restaurant for the climbers and walkers in the small bar. Still clearly remember the taste, crunch and warmth sixty years on ?

We don't know about the hotel, but we've been coming to the hikers bar for over 30 years and it's exactly the same as it ever was in terms of decor etc. A little piece of history. Dog friendly, very friendly staff, great pub grub which is very reasonably priced. Always a fire, and sometimes live music. Great place in the heart of the Lakes.

My friend and I were walking stage 3 of The Cumbria Way and planned to arrive outside at 0801 hours from Ambleside. I emailed during the week and Linda replied to say they could fit us in if we booked and paid in advance which I did. On arrival, the waitress greeted us and brought us coffee and breakfast. Great food, great value, great service. Thank you chef and staff. It was appreciated and set us up for the walk ahead.

This was a very good deal. Situated right at the end of the Langdale Valley, under the Langdale Pikes, providing easy access to the fells. This is a super dog friendly hotel, which my dog loved. A really good breakfast (in the price) set me up for my task for the day. Blisco and the Crinkles in winter conditions. When i got back, i had an amazing (hot) shower, getting the feeling back to my toes. The bar is a typical walkers bar, no frills, but a log fire and plenty of Moretti. I met a couple over dinner, who just came to stay in the hotel. A great experience overall.

Love this hotel,& bar, it's a must for anyone staying on the campsite. Good selection of beer, food available, good walkers pub. Great atmosphere in evening's. Good car park for hotel patrons, & separate car parking for walkers. Pay at machine. Dog friendly. 🐾🐾

This is a hikers hotel and it knows it's a hikers hotel. It's boot and dog friendly. It's probably best described as rustic. The staff are just the best. The food is delicious and exactly what you want to eat at the end of a hike. It's a home from home and best described as a big warm hug after you have been battling the elements all day. I just love this place x

Great one night stay after a long walk from Rosthwaite. Generous food portions with sticky toffee pudding and mulled wine. Breakfast of porridge and kippers fuelled the next day.

Yelp
Don't let the Ambleside address fool you. The Old Dungeon Ghyll is up at the end of Great Langdale, and surrounded by challenging climbing and walking country. It's worth the journey, to sample the range of real ales on offer in the Hiker's Bar. The bar meals come in large portions and are home-made with local produce. I havn't stayed at the hotel, but it has a good reputation. It does look distinctly up market of the pub, which is less well lit, cosy and older.
