This shop is the spot for the vintage bicycle enthusiast. The owner, Steve, clearly loves them and will boost your own love and adoration of them with generosity and humility. As a curvy, unathletic woman, I’ve gotten a lot of eye rolls from men who work in bike shops but I felt so welcome at Old Goat. His shop seems open to everyone regardless of skill or ride. Steve made me excited to put a bike between my legs again.

This shop packed my bicycle for only $50 and in only two days. Good! But when I unpacked it they had used almost no cushioning material - so little that the wheel lock on one of my wheels broke through the box during shipping. I also had my back wheel hanger snap off on my 2nd ride after unpacking the bike, possibly because it wasn’t adequately cushioned. I would consider going here again but I’d want to make sure they did better with the cushioning.

The owner gave us great intel on local mt. biking. Cool little shop with a brewery adjoining it. Located right in the heart of downtown. Great place to stop in while we were traveling.

Dropped off my EBike on a Saturday with brake problems. They quickly diagnosed the issues, fixed it, and by Wednesday the bike was ready to be picked up. Super friendly, informative, and fairer prices than I was anticipating too.

Very helpful place! I ordered a bicycle inner tube for my mountain bike online and didn't have the valve stem attachment to pump it up and put the wheel back together. So, I brought the hub, tube, and tire here and they put it on for me and sold me a valve adapter and extra inner tube. Overall, a great experience.

Great place to find new and reuse gear, bikes, and clothing. Friendly, knowledgeable folks who know their stuff. I've bought two bikes and two pairs of cross-country skis from them, all used but nicely updated and maintained in-house. I have another older bike in with them now for a complete overhaul and they have been excellent and very fair. Recommended.

I really love old goat. Here I purchased some of my first pieces of outdoor gear, and now I can't get enough nature in my life. For second hand gear, I'd like to see some even steeper price cuts, especially in the used shoes section. Comparable quality mid-layers and other synthetic tops are simply cheeper at the Salvation Army. All gear is excellent! And it feels good to support an Ithaca store.

Great selection of new & used outdoor gear. Sometimes it takes a few tries to find what you need, but it's worth it. My family has purchased gear for hiking trips, bike trips, and sports, as well as winter coats. Great used gear at very fair prices. The staff & owners are knowledgeable & helpful.

Yelp
Steve is a wizard! I was riding along the rail trail and all of a sudden, my cassette was loose and bottom bracket vibrating. I emailed Steve and he took a look the next day and fixed everything free of charge. Now that's service. Old Goat Gear Exchange is a quaint shop right off the commons that sells new and used bikes and all the outdoor gear you could ever need! They also sell used items (for great deals) on consignment. Steve gets to know his customers, and when I walk in, he greets me by name with a smile on his face. Quarantine got you down? Old Goat still has bikes, despite the nationwide shortage. I've never felt more welcome at a local bike shop than at Old Goat Gear Exchange and will continue to bring my bikes in for service. I will likely purchase some other doodads to support a great resource in our community.

Yelp
Wow, I can't believe I'm the first one to write a review for this store. This store sells used & new outdoor gears and the staff here are very friendly and helpful. I've bought snowboots (used), gaiter (used), ski poles (used), and other things here. Reasonably priced! I love it! When you fail finding gears you need at ReUse Center, this is the place to check. Definitely consider stopping by before buying anything new from box stores like EMS. If you really need new stuff, you can also check the outdoor store on Commons .. keep your money working for the local economy!

Yelp
This place is amazing! I got some mountain bike repairs done here ~ they did a great job quickly and at a good price. Also got some gear here, sweet deals. The workers are the best, helpful and friendly. Two thumbs up!

Yelp
Terrible service and a bad attitude to a new customer. I took my bike to Old Goat to replace broken spokes. The owner replaced wheel and tires with a used threadbare tire and faulty wheel. I did not realize until yesterday only a few months after service that I got a bad tire and wheel since I've had 2 flats on the same wheel within one week. I understand that the replacement was to be temporary, since it was a used tire, but given that I only bike around town on pavement, the replacement was awful. I probably would not feel compelled to post this review had it not been the owner's attitude at the time of service. He was rude to me as a new customer, when he asked if I recognized the picture posted on his window of people who had robbed his store. Then after I thanked him for the service his parting remarks were "try to stay out of trouble" with a smile. I thought the comment weird at the time and said so. Shortly after I rode the bike out of the store I noticed my breaks were not working so I returned it to him to fix. He reluctantly did so. I don't know if he is racist or just a jerk. what I do know is that he is a poor judge of character and customer service. I'm old enough to be the age of his mother and a respected member of the Ithaca community. Retired educator
