Yelp
What a lovely hotel! Rooms are quite large and very luxurious!!! The food we ordered for room service was good, not great but very enjoyable. The location is very close to everything you could need and great for a leisurely stroll. But, the absolute best thing about the hotel is the shower!!!! I could have stayed in there for the rest of my life! The absolute most amazing water pressure I've ever experienced! Please do yourself a favor and stay here...greet the cat as you walk in and take in the beautiful building. Then take an extremely long shower and climb into the oversized, comfy bed and get a great nights sleep

Yelp
We absolutely loved this charming hotel! The pub, the downstairs sitting areas, the garden, the great location next to shops ... plus the rooms were large and comfy and the people were mostly lovely. We had a great stay and would definitely stay here again. NOTE: this review is for the hotel itself and NOT the pub! We loved the hotel but the pub was, by FAR, the worst we have encountered since our arrival in Ireland. The food was dry, the servers were rude and/or ignored us completely, and there was no music as promised. We ate there for lunch and it was great people watching because the place was packed with locals but everything else was ... disappointing. Then we came back later for music as suggested by the front desk, and we were ignored while standing at the bar, sitting at the bar, and hovering around the door. It was real "we know you are trying to be polite but we are not meeting your eyes so please get out" energy. Maybe we did something "wrong" I don't know, but it was still very strange. But the hotel is great and there are plenty of pubs a stone's throw from the front door.

Yelp
A very nice cozy and comfy hotel in the center of town. We are here for one night in our continuing tour of Ireland. Check in was painless the rooms are fine and the bed was great. Nice and quiet for sleeping. Dinner was wonderful lamb roast with live Irish music - can't remember the last time I heard a harp recital it was lovely. Also a couple of energetic traditional Irish dancers. Breakfast was also fine although the service could be improved. We enjoyed the stay and recommend if you are visiting Eniss. Mark & Nancy.

Yelp
Restaurant. Ordered Hake. Skin still had scales on it and there were 8-10 large bones in first half of the portion. Unacceptable!

Yelp
Our room was very comfortable. Upon arrival on our room we found some small pastries, fresh fruit and chocolate. The bedside nightstands had individually controlled lights. We had two very comfortable upholstered arm chairs, chairs much better than any I have seen in high-end Irish hotels. The shower was a problem. It was located in a narrow bathtub with a half door. The half door was movable (without a fixed bottom edge), allowing easier access to the tub/shower. Unfortunately the open bottom edge of the shower door allowed water to puddle on the floor. It was impossible to take a shower without getting the floor very wet. The dinner was very good. Our your group had a wide selection of starters, entrees and desserts. I had rack of lamb. The after dinner Irish music entertainment was exceptionally good: Two harps, a clarinet, a violin, a small accordion, a male dancer and a female dancer. One of the harpists sang. I really enjoyed their performance. That group of young people plays about 3-4 times a week at the hotel. The breakfast buffet was not as extensive as at some fancier hotels. The made to order pancakes turned out to be delicious crepes. Getting coffee was slow because each cup was probably individually brewed. Directly across from the front door of the hotel is a grassy treed area with tables and chairs. It is probably part of the hotel. That outdoor seating helps alleviate the limited seating in the lobby. I did not see any other landscaping around the hotel; the hotel is right in the middle of town with easy walking to shopping and various sites. The hotel is conveniently located near a very walkable downtown shopping street. The cathedral of St. Peter and Paul is directly across the street from the hotel. Its spire serves as a useful landmark when walking in town. The hotel doesn't have the fancy common areas that five star hotels typically have. The hotel has a resident cat. The cat has a bed and a toy located near the front door. The cat is friendly.

Yelp
The Old Ground Hotel is in a great location and within walking distance to all the shops, restaurants and sites in Ennis. We had a relatively large room overlooking the parking lot and the church. It was a nice size with a separate seating area. It was a little stuffy but we had a small fan and also kept the windows open. The bed was comfortable and we had a good night's sleep. The staff was very accommodating with our early morning arrival and we didn't have to wait long to get into our room. We did email them weeks ahead and requested an early check in. Breakfast was also provided and we always ordered the scrambled eggs and smoked salmon. It was all quite delicious. The hotel is always booked with numerous tour groups so getting a reservation might be difficult but I'd love to return and visit the area again.

Yelp
Wonderful stay at a wonderful hotel. The staff is helpful and the bartender, Jason is a gem!

Yelp
Incredible lamb shank actually all 4 of our group were pleasantly surprised. Salmon was excellent. One of the best meals we had in Ireland.

Yelp
We were there with several other couples in June. Great food, service, friendly atmosphere. In a good location for pubs, shopping, and local foods.

Yelp
This is a perfectly fine hotel. It is quiet yet in the thick of town and just 2 blocks from the train (& bus) station. The rooms and services are quite nice. The beds are excellent with good linens. Good soaps and shampoos in the bathroom with unlimited super hot water. Some rooms have a US compatible outlet at the desk - what a luxury. Ask for one if you aren't carrying an adaptor. They also have an office area near front desk where there are US outlets & computers as well. Free wifi makes it a nice place to sit in the lobby or bar even if you're not an overnight guest. I'm not a fan of Irish food so I was pleasantly surprised at the wide array of good food available at breakfast in the breakfast room. On buffet tables there were many fresh fruits, breads & pastries, juices, smoothies, cold cereals etc. There was a long list of breakfast options on the menu & the full Irish breakfast was the last option - as it should be. Posting a picture of the breakfast menu if I can. The hotel bar (Poet's Corner Bar) looks opulent with high ceilings, old wood and large portraits & is a perfectly good place to hang. There's bar food in the evening and of course live music. You simply can't beat the courtesy of the Irish people. This hotel staff included. I am conservative with my 5 star ratings but I was tempted to give this hotel one. Also I walked by some rooms being cleaned that looked smaller than mine so your experience may differ. I had room 401. A corner room at quiet end so ask for one of those. Highly recommended.

Yelp
Very nice place. I just had some bad luck. The ceiling in my bathroom had some cracks which did not look good. But when the shower in the room above me (I was room 216) was used the water leaked through like a good rain storm on my head. They offered me free breakfast which was fine. I just don't know why it was not fixed sooner. Not like I was the first with the issue.

Yelp
This review is for the bar area. We were going to eat here one night, but they put us in the formal dining room, which we didn't want. The pub, though, is awesome. There are lots of places to sit & the bartenders are super friendly & helpful. We had a true Irish Pub experience here! There were musicians playing lovely music & a family came in (Ma/Da & 5 daughters!). The father got up & sang some, one or two of his daughters sang & another played an instrument... Irish ballads & folk songs... people chiming in for the choruses...it was incredible and one gorgeous song brought tears to my eyes. Yes, we stayed the whole night & closed the place down. There were so many different people, ages & nationalities & everyone was having a good time. They close at normal bar hours because they are attached to the hotel.

Yelp
This is a lovely old world hotel with peat fireplace, antiques abound and first class friendly service. Rooms are neat and clean and large: comfy beds There is fine dining and a plentiful pub on premises with a hug draft beer selections and top shelf whiskeys. Only criticism was the trad band took more time off from playing then they did playing unless patrons started to entertain themselves by singing then they'd start up to at over you.

Marcus R.

Yelp
Very cozy and nice! The rooms were nicely furnished, and I slept like a corpse. I spent a happy few hours at the bar listening to the music and nursing s pint.

Yelp
Stayed here for a night between Galway and Dingle. Very nice hotel, with very friendly staff. It is a very quiet hotel. The only thing I would say is that it is very old, you could tell from the bathroom. Overall, it was a nice hotel, no complaints.

Yelp
Nice place. Clean. Friendly staff. Breakfast was great. We would stay here again. Big parking lot. Convenient location - though the town shuts down early. Restaurant - poets corner - is terrible.

Yelp
This hotel is fantastic and well worth a visit. Situated in the market town of Ennis just 20 minutes from Shannon airport. Its a wecoming place with charactor, tradition and charm in abundance. Whether you fancy a burger for dinner or a steak you will find the service and food outstanding. Nearby are bars and shops. Pay a visit to knox bar with live singing or The Library bar which is a modern contempary feel

Yelp
Big old hotel. Great rooms, in the center of town. They have a pub with music sessions. Food was a bit expensive, but good. Not a lot of scallops for your money, but my wife's shepards pie was good. Stayed there to be near the Cliffs of Mohr and not be too far from Shannon airport for going home. Great place to start or end a tour of Ireland.

Yelp
This hotel is a great place to go to for some quality service. The breakfast was splendid and their staff was very friendly. This was our first hotel going to Ireland and was very friendly, but, there was a few small things. Literally. The TV's were tiny and only facing one of the two beds. This isn't major but I just wanted to say that. Also, the bathroom had a window in it but thank goodness it had a curtain. Not the right place to put a curtain. Overall a great hotel.

Yelp
We didn't stay at the hotel, but spent a lovely evening at the Poet's Corner Bar. It was truly a highlight of our trip! The barman was amazing, helpful, witty, thoughtful, adorable, etc. He was a perfect representation of how all the Irish people treated us throughout the country! Irish whiskey, Guinness, Wine - it was all delivered with a smile (and just a little cheek). The live music was also good. I think our party of 5 spent over 4 hours in the pub, enjoying the company & music. A truly Irish evening, and one to remember.

Yelp
We had the nicest stay at this hotel! It was really beautiful and comfortable, and the staff was wonderful. But, this review is really about Stella. Stella's presence at breakfast in the morning was literally enough to make your day. She's so warm, professional, accommodating and funny, and she always went out of her way to find out how to make you feel welcome. Thank you Old Ground and make sure you hang on to Stella!!!

Yelp
This review is for the bar/restaurant Poet's Corner in the hotel. We are Americans on vacation in Ireland and asked a passerby where to eat and this is where he sent us. It was wonderful! Huge portions that were cooked perfectly and the service was excellent!

Yelp
Stayed here for two nights. Hotel staff very accommodating. Rooms very nice. Food and atmosphere great. Very charming. My grandfather has used it as a starting point for trips for years. Appealing to both old and young (I'm 24). They have computers with Internet as well as wifi in the rooms.

Yelp
Central hotel in the middle of Ennis. Very good food in the Poets Corner bar with a a great selection to please everyone including fish, vegetarian/vegan. Friendly staff too. They also have the Town Hall restaurant which is excellent, and more suited to those days when you want to have a long lunch/dinner without rushing. The bar has traditional music at the weekends. One of the more popular places in Ennis!

Yelp
Travelling OS with an infant is daunting at best. The facilities and staff have been so accommodating that it's a home away from home. Ordered room service and it was delicious. The staff also ensured to knock quietly once I mentioned a sleeping baby in the room. Very comfortable and well presented older style hotel - only improvement would be to add disabled/pram access through the front door. Free Wifi (speed tested to 8Mb down and 1.2Mb up) was great even on 4th floor. This hotel is a must when visiting Ennis.

Diana R.

Yelp
Beautiful setting within walking distance of many shops, restruants, and pubs. Hotel is as the name suggests ran by a very professional and accommodating staff. Be sure to try the Poets Corner pub adjacent to the hotel. Nice atmosphere, excellent customer service and the food and ale are tops.

T L.

Yelp
Great place. More accommodating than it needs to be for Americans in Europe.

Yelp
Great visit.. WiFi deplorable from a business point of view, would not recommend the place as a conference venue but great for a weekend visit. Extremely surly staff, poor customer skills, bad manners from the front desk and overall indifference made our stay at The Old Ground memorable for all the wrong reasons. Noisy ill aspected rooms with garbage removal facilities in nearby smelling distance adjacent to a beautiful Cathedral makes this Hotel a joke. Avoid at all costs. Caveat emptor!

Yelp
This review is for the restaurant (Poets Corner?), as we never stayed in the actual hotel (although it looked very cozy). We stayed ~20 minutes from Ennis and came to the Old Ground Hotel to eat at the restaurant since it was recommended by several locals. Unlike some other places we ate while traveling around Ireland for a week, the restaurant here seemed very authentic and we were some of the few tourists there. The food was incredible and the people (both staff and diners) were amazingly friendly and more than willing to answer all of our questions. Got to watch a rugby match on tv with a bunch of rowdy locals (which was fun if you can overlook the colorful language), but aside from that the restaurant was very family friendly and reasonably priced. We at there at least twice more during our stay and it was our favorite restaurant on the trip. We tried almost everything on the menu between us all and had no complaints. Live music on one occasion, which was lots of fun. We hope to go back to Ireland at some point and will definitely stop here again!
