Today I had the opportunity to have lunch at Old Hanoi Restaurant, a place that combines the elegance of a colonial villa with the most authentic essence of Vietnamese cuisine. My choice was the Cá Lăng hấp sương mù – Foggy hot stone steamed fish (crystal eyes catfish), one of the restaurant’s signature dishes.
The presentation itself is already an experience: the fish is served in a pot over hot stone, releasing a dense mist of steam that fills the table and awakens all the senses. Once uncovered, the aromas of fresh herbs and local spices anticipate a flavor that is both delicate and profound. The flesh of the cá lăng, firm and juicy, melts in the mouth and perfectly reflects the balance between tradition and culinary technique.
Beyond the dish, the restaurant’s atmosphere adds a nostalgic yet refined touch, ideal for enjoying at a slow pace. The attentive and friendly service completes an experience that goes far beyond food: it is a journey into the classic spirit of Hanoi.
In short, Old Hanoi offers much more than just a meal — it offers a memory.
