Great historic hotel. Comfortable bed. Quiet rooms. Great location. Canto restaurant was great for dinner and breakfast. Shout out to the housekeeping staff. Wonderful job!

Elegant hotel. Somewhat steeped in an era gone by… which is quaint and better than all the modern style hotels which are so sterile. Thoughtful classic furniture and elegant furnishings. Staff and service were absolutely fabulous. Especially the front desk. Rooms are quiet and beds are very comfortable. Everything spotlessly clean. I had one issue with our room and it was fixed in literally minutes. Underground Parking is across the street, so a bit inconvenient, but unlike most other hotels, they did not charge huge fees for parking. Parking was included in the room cost. A pleasant surprise. The grounds are wonderfully maintained and very pleasant for walking. Lots of nature surrounds the Old Mill grounds. And peaceful and quiet. You have no idea you are in the centre of the city….And it’s close to the subway if you want to avoid Toronto traffic gridlock. By subway, it took us about 15 minutes to get to the CN Tower, the Aquarium (a must see) and the Roger’s centre. This was the first time I ever took the Toronto subway, so this was an experience too….

We had an amazing stay at the Old Mill Hotel in Toronto with my family! The hotel is charming, with a perfect blend of historic elegance and modern comfort. Our room was spacious, clean, and very cozy, offering everything we needed for a relaxing stay. The staff was incredibly friendly and attentive, always ready to assist with anything we needed. The location is also fantastic, with beautiful surroundings and easy access to local attractions. We especially enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere and lovely dining options. I highly recommend this hotel for anyone visiting Toronto — a wonderful experience for families!

Arriving at the Old Mill is like arriving at a historic village. We were attending a big event that covered most of the event spaces and it was pretty fantastic. The place has such a wonderful history. And it's right down in Toronto. Loved it. Six stars.

If you’re looking for a break from the corporate anonymity of the hotels in downtown Toronto then this is the perfect hotel for you. Situated beautifully on the Humber River with lots of outdoor activities available on the doorstep it’s also one metro stop from the city centre and a short walk to the chic shops and cafes of Bloor West Village. The main selling point for us though was the staff; they were absolutely lovely and made us feel so welcome. Another stand out is the food. The restaurant is excellent and the bar serves excellent cocktails with a joke and a smile. I can’t recommend this hotel highly enough. It’s a little gem.

Nice environment, so quiet and beside Humber River. You won’t feel you are in the city. Feel so relax in the hotel, hiking trail beside you. Walk within 5 min to subway. Service in the hotel is excellent, fresh bake bakery and famous spa within the hotel. You can spend days in the hotel. Nice hotel/ spa in Toronto

I liked visiting this beautifully located & historic Inn in Toronto west... for many reasons. Though lately, it's gone downhill in service. I can't count how many times family, friends & I have visited, dined in, used the Spa and took in afternoon High Tea (HT) at this Inn. However, our last visit of HT was deplorable. Our food was sub-par (putting it lightly). The finger sandwiches were so dry, one could not bite it (the bread was stale). Our server disappeared for 20-30 minutes at a time. We couldn't locate him. Once located, we had to ask for milk & sugar for the tea, butter for the scones, etc. Oh, it was truly a disappointment!

A lovely setting in an iconic building.|The room was nice and spacious.|The parking was inconvenient. It was across the street in an apartment underground.|The historic Old Mill restaurant is next door but no longer affiliated with the hotel.|The hotel restaurant menu has limited choice. The portions are small but tasty.

Yelp
We came here for the Winter Wonderland Afternoon Tea and it was all that we had hoped for: beautifully decorated exterior and interior of the hotel (lots of photo opportunities with the many Christmas trees and holiday decorations on all the floors), and a spectacular afternoon tea experience. I loved the historical charm of this place, especially during the holiday season, with all the Christmas decorations and a diferently adorned Christmas tree in almost every corner, room, and floor of the venue. One section of the hotel (with the large half-spiral wooden staircase) reminded me of a section of a castle from the Medieval era. There were many rooms for events, weddings, and various functions. The lobby itself was decked out with festive holiday décor. The afternoon tea reservations are hard to come by (especially the themed one - Winter Wonderland), so we were glad to snag one of the last few remaining spots (even though we booked early, weeks before the reservation date). Everyone got called by reservation name and escorted to an assigned table by a personal server, who explained the historical significance of the afternoon tea tradition at the Old Mill. I thought that was a nice touch. When arriving at the assigned table, the menu was already personalized based on whether you had the regular, vegetarian, or vegan menu. We opted for vegan menu (had to call in and request it at least 48 hours in advance). The server then took our tea selection, and shortly came back with the pots of tea and our afternoon tea tower (savoury sandwiches, scones, and desserts). The vegan Winter Wonderland Afternoon Tea menu consisted of: SANDWICHES - Cucumber & Vegan Cream Cheese Sandwiches (delicate finger sandwiches with sliced cucumber and herbed vegan cream cheese) - Grilled Vegetables Sandwiches (grilled zucchini, bell peppers, asparagus, and red onion, tossed in herbs - served on rosemary focaccia bread) - Field Mushrooms with Pesto Sandwiches (field mushroom duxelles with pesto, vegan cream cheese, and mustard - served in brown bread) - Roasted Golden Beets & Vegan Pesto Goat Cheese Sandwiches (roasted and pickled golden beets, vegan pesto goat cheese, and arugula - served in dark rye bread) SCONES - Caramelized Leeks & Vegan Cheddar Scones - Eggnog, Dry Cherry, and White Chocolate Scones DESSERTS - Pomegranate & Dark Chocolate Yule Logs - Coconut & Raspberry Travel Cake - Chestnut & Vanilla Snowflake Chocolate Verrine - Peppermint Macarons All of the savoury were delicious and quite filling. My favourites were the Grilled Vegetablese and Field Mushrooms sandwiches. I found the scones were too dry (not a big fan of scones in general), and the desserts were pretty but too sweet for me. The server came by our table a few times to refill the pot of tea with hot water, and asked how we were doing. The room was nicely decorated with all things Christmas, and I liked the comics / historical mini posters on some of the walls. Overall it was a great afternoon tea experience at a historical inn in Toronto.

Yelp
Came here for my friend's birthday. She's vegan and they are able to cater to that, which is great! We had a lot of fun, everything was tasty, servers were super nice, but I personally wish there was more tea variety...

Yelp
I absolutely love the Old Mill! The hotel conjures up memories of a bygone era with its elegant facade and interior. There is always something going on at the hotel, from jazz, to scotch tastings, to plant shows. Their high tea is a beautiful experience; you will feel enchanted while sipping tea in their beautiful property. I went to a holiday concert there recently and I loved everything about it. I ordered the flatbread and a cocktail, and food/drink were top-notch. Service was friendly, and the concert definitely put me in the holiday spirit! Parking is convenient and is located right across the street.

Yelp
Came for a birthday lunch because we've heard so much about the Old Mill and how beautiful it is. The location is fantastic and relatively easy signage to know where to park and walk over to. The parking lot was across the street (paid parking) behind a condo looking complex, and you cross the street or go under in the tunnel to get to the Old Mill restaurant. Making the reservation was also incredibly easy to do. I had to make a last second change to the number of people and they were quick to help make a revision. I was a bit disappointed walking in. We were not greeted right away. They were having a conversation amongst themselves until I took another step all the way up to their cubicle looking set up. Though I made it very very clear that we were celebrating a big birthday, it was not mentioned a single time during the welcoming or even throughout the lunch. Hospitality-wise, this is a huge fail for me. It's failure to notice the details and create a memorable experience. It also took a long time to get our order in because they seem to have staffed two servers for the entire space. They spent more time setting up tables than anything else, and we didn't even get waters until after food had come. It's not their fault, the servers were doing their best to be friendly, be quick, and give good service. FOH Manager could maybe take this into consideration. Even if it's suppose to be a quiet weekday, that should actually mean that we can count on the servers having more time to be attentive. At the price points they're charging, I'd think it comes with top notch service. Food wise we got a salad, fish and chips, and steak. I also ordered a mocktail. Salad was fantastic. Steak and chips was good. The steak was not cooked to the temperature we asked for (Medium Rare) but it wasn't too far Medium that we didn't want it. So we just kept it. It still tasted good. I would not recommend the fish and chips. The fish was really fishy and the breading was thick and flavourless. Considering the price point, I wouldn't come back because I know I can get a better experience and food in Toronto. But it is still a lovely scenic location and it's worth a visit. They do get some amazing reviews on here so different events, different days/ meals maybe are better. We just happened to have a not so great experience here. But we're still glad we came by to try and take in the beautiful venue.

Yelp
If you are looking for an afternoon tea experience in Toronto, come check out the Old Mill Inn. Located in the lush Humber Valley, the Old Mill Inn has been serving up tea time for over a century. They have recently introduced 12 new signature Sloane teas, which represent their English roots and complement the new tea menu. We picked the Palace Chai and Heavenly Cream which are both blended black tea, but one with notes of creamy vanilla, and the other with a sweet floral finish. The food comes in a 3-tier platter. Starting at the bottom, we have finger sandwiches including prosciutto brie bun, creamy chicken sandwiches, and my fav smoked salmon croissant. Then the middle tiers we have some scones and berries. And finally desserts at the top. The clementine tart was my fav followed by the hazelnut and dark chocolate dessert which reminds me of ferroro rocher. They also have a cocktail menu with variety of mimosa and prosecco. We came here for a baby shower and had a great time. While the tea service was not as contemporary or luxurious compared to other venues, it's is a good value option at $60/per person. The dining room is a bit dated but make sure to check out the charming garden that's on site!

Yelp
Auntie Patsy took Aimée and I here for our wedding present - fairly close to her house. Restaurant is attached to a hotel, and there is a parking lot and garage across the street. Atmosphere is old school; exposed dark wood, leaded glass, etc. also a conference center; a wedding, two birthday parties and an IEEE dinner were all there that night. It also has a nightclub/lounge in it with a dance floor and stage; they were setup for dancing that night. Drinks were good - my Manhattan was well made, however with a regular Maraschino and not a Luxardo. Aimée and Patsy had the sparkling Rose' - this was terrific. Dinner for them was the wild mushroom ravioli - outstanding they said! I had the beet root smoked salmon; also terrific. I did get the sun dried tomato flat bread as well; this was mediocre. Service was truly amazing - non intrusive, but right there with a fork when Aimée accidentally dropped hers; or to refill water, etc. Truly first class. We'll be back to dance! Recommend.

Yelp
Everything was great---food, atmosphere, service--until the light went up toward the end of the night, making me feel like it was the forced time to leave. It's rude. If a restaurant wants everyone out by 9pm then they should end their reservations at 7pm. If a restaurant wants to cut diners short then they should cut them a discount off the bill. I doubt I will ever return.

Yelp
Really nice place. So cute. You feel like you're in a fairy tale. The room has a fireplace and a nice bath tub and the staff is super sweet and helpful.

Yelp
I attended a business event here and I believe it's a nice spot for these kind of gatherings. It's well-maintained and has different rooms with different sizes, you can have your meeting in one room and serve the meals in another one. They could organize serving meals better and be more efficient with it.

Yelp
This review is for 21patio. It's the outdoor patio restaurant at Old Mill Toronto. Our team got together in a safe and gorgeous venue for lunch after not seeing one another in 1.5 years. It's definitely better seeing folks in person than over Microsoft Teams. I also enjoyed being off work for half the day! I was the first person on my team to arrive. The last time I was at Old Mill was over a decade ago. The condominium and underground parking lot were new to me. In the past, it was a vast outdoor lot that was free. Not anymore! I used a credit card to pay for parking. The maximum rate during the day is $12. You pay first, place the receipt on your car's dashboard, and you're good. The entrance to 21patio (21 denotes 21 Old Mill) is directly across from the parking lot. The interior looks the same, with wooden panels telling you where various rooms and such are. I checked in with a nice man. He directed me to his female counterpart. She asked whether I wanted to hit the patio or wait inside. I did the latter. I found the women's washroom. It was classy and fancy. It was clean and nicely maintained. I headed back and sat on a nice comfy bench. Sure enough, my manager, who had picked up a team member who doesn't drive, showed up. We all decided to hit the patio, with the rest of our crew trickling in. We were under huge umbrellas on a hot day. I liked that we got paper menus. It was a company-sponsored outing. It meant that we all went crazy. I ordered the XOXO botanical spritzer in peach orange blossom. My boss wanted to split his No Boats on Sunday peach cider with me. Our server was highly attentive and gave me two glasses. I split my drink up. They were refreshing. I actually liked the spritzer more because it was crisp and had less sugar. My main was the east coast lobster roll sliders with a side salad. I eyed it from the start. The sliders were a new spin on classic lobster rolls. My manager was looking at how I was going to eat them, which I found odd. I enjoyed the rolls, with a mixture of decent chunks of lobster meat, and chopped green onions, celery, and seasoning. Each bun was perfectly toasted, while soft. I had a choice of fries or salad. Salad is my vice these days. This one was seedy, with pumpkin seeds and mixed seeds. There were bits of goats cheese that I enjoyed with the leafy greens, and crunchy carrots and cucumbers. The balsamic dressing was flavourful. I was sad when I ate it all. It then became a family feast. We ended up sharing a lot of our food. I tried a crispy wing. Our newest member of our team was eating them with a knife and fork. Not me! I'm all fingers. It was delicious. My colleague who doesn't drive ordered cauliflower bites and crispy truffle parmesan fries. I sampled a bit of each. I am not a big cauliflower bite person. It was spicy, but the sauce always ends up making the once crispy batter soggy. The fries were amazing. Truffle oil is the best. They were cripsy with a light batter around each fry. My former intern-turned-employee loved them better than his regular fries that he basically ate most of the truffle ones... haha! I had friends on either side of me. To my right was my friend whom we've met a few times during this pandemic. She ordered the skirt steak with frites. I learned that she's a prime rib person, as am I. She liked her meal, but wished that her steak was prime rib. It was so much fun taking photos of everything that we had ordered. None of my colleagues found that weird because they are used to me. I had to explain that to our newest member, who ended up fuelling my passion! Dessert became a sharing session. We got the following items: - Cremoso - Peach bellini tarte tarin - Limone - Strawberry gelato I sampled the first three. The cremoso was decadent. I loved the dark callebaut chocolate. It had a brownie torte, espresso, cream, marscapone ganache, and the best candied pecan that I have ever had. OMG. Get. It! I also loved the peach bellini tarte tatin. I ended up dividing one into four and serving others. The caramelized peaches with rosemary and honey all work nicely. The pastry was so flaky and enjoyable. Did someone say prosecco wine reduction? Yes, please! It had dulce de leche ice cream that was creamy and heavenly! I love lemon and had high hopes for the limone, but it wasn't meant to be. I love tart lemons and this one wasn't tart at all. The tart had a sweet almond and coconut base, which I enjoyed the most. The lemon cream was boring. Why was it so yellow that it likely lit up in the dark? I liked the berries that came with the tart desserts. I wish that I had room for the icewine gelato. Instead, I gawked at the strawberry gelato that our newest member got. She handed it over to me to take pics without my asking her. Yay, conditioning! I paid our bill on the company card. It worked! Great staff, food, and patio. Highly recommend. (339)

Yelp
In 2019, they finally revamped the menu and now offer a daily tea service for $39 a person, an increase from the past but still more affordable than some of other options in the city. Their menu starts with a selection of Sloane teas where samples are presented at the table so guests can smell and see the leaves. The Darjeeling 2nd flush sounded mighty, the menu touting it as the "champagne of tea". Yet, despite the darker hue, it tasted too mellow for me. I crave something that has more of a floral finish. Their sandwiches aren't necessarily dainty but leaves you really full. Without a doubt, the smoked chicken and apple salad was the tastiest of the bunch - a huge flavourful mound of the chunky salad sitting on a fresh mini brioche bun. On the other hand, the bagel used on the cucumber sandwich and pumpernickel for the salmon gravlax were both cold and dry. While I appreciate restaurants trying something new and different, sometimes things should also follow tradition. Something like a cucumber sandwich, which is meant to be light and delicate, a hard crumbly bagel is the last thing we needed. I'm still waiting for the day when restaurants will provide a sweet or savoury afternoon tea option. In a heartbeat, I'd trade in the sweet plates for more sandwiches or scones. The best part of the plate was probably the large sweet and juicy strawberry dipped in dark chocolate

Yelp
High tea is priced at $35-40 per person. Everything had nice and light/refreshing flavours. Desserts were a bit too sweet. Great price for high tea, definitely one of the cheaper ones. A lot of weddings are hosted at Old Mill Inn so there are a lot of picturesque areas!

Yelp
We went for a bridal shower. Lovely space. Nice servers. Food was fine but not plentiful which is fine for lunch for a group of ladies.

Yelp
Came here for High Tea on the weekend with my girlfriends for my birthday. Before coming, the tiers looked delicious and aesthetically pleasing, however I was concerned with all the negative reviews. It's a short walk from Old Mill station to this this historical building, which is a hotel, spa, restaurant and event venue. From the entrance I entered from, it was a maze to find the dining room. I would highly recommend making prior reservations, as afternoon tea was fully booked. We were quickly seated and did not have to wait. As someone in our party was gluten-intolerant, the restaurant presented a gluten-free option. The gluten-free and non-gluten-free options had a number of delectable choices in nibbles. The upper tier of sweets were exceptionally sweet for my tastes, but the savory sandwiches were simple, but tasted very fresh. For my birthday, I was surprised with another pastry. However, based on the amount of pastries that I just had, I wasn't able to handle another one! The room is exceptionally Instagram-able, and overall I had a very good experience here.

Yelp
Called here so many times with no one answering the phone and left a few messages with no one bothering to reply back. Not to mention no one replies to the e-mails. How very disappointing. Their website is very complicated to navigate and booking a reservation is difficult. If you're booking one be sure to read very carefully whether you are booking for a supper only/show only (if you're going to a show on their stage) or both. It is very confusing and one can easily make an error. The food was pretty good but very pricey . The stage is a good size and can fit a large band (4 members or more) and even a couple of dancers if they have any. The dance floor is a very good size and can accommodate many patrons.

Yelp
@oldmilltoronto is the perfect hidden oasis to enjoy a meal and/or a few drinks. The food portions were favour full & generous. Friendly attentive staff. We were very happy to stumble on this gem the outside area has a less formal dining setting, with affordable BBQ items. Highly recommend trying it before this summer season is over

Yelp
tl;dr - AFTERNOON TEA review. Horrible service. Gross dirty glasses, had to physically leave the restaurant to talk to the host to get a server, hot tea spilled all over the table. Food was nothing to write home about. Would definitely not recommend for a special day. I emailed Old Mill before posting this review, they did not reply. I booked a table for 6, several months in advance, for my mom's birthday. The host was kind and reservations were a breeze. When we arrived, we were seated in a loud enclosed room with two parties - a bridal shower and baby shower. I asked if we could be moved to the quiet and virtually empty dining room because my grandma had a headache, but was told that the dining room wasn't set up for tables of 6. Questionable that a dining room couldn't accommodate 6 people, but I understood it might be due to some other things and it was no prob. We waited for 30 minutes without service and I had to wave down our server, Peter T, to get some water. He returned with the following incredibly dirty glasses (photo attached). He was very hard to track down afterwards and would not look in our direction. I had to physically leave the restaurant and ask the host for clean glasses. I realize that our server was preoccupied with the other parties but this was not an ideal start to, what was supposed to be, a special event for my mom. Peter returned after our host spoke to him and gave us new glasses and took our tea order. He returned and haphazardly dropped the tea pots onto the saucers spilling hot tea on the table several times. This really concerned me because my grandma's hands were on the table and it was burning hot liquid spilling everywhere without our server noticing. He kept looking around the room while he was serving us. I know this might sound insignificant but a $300 bill is not the easiest for me at my age, and I was splurging to take my mom and family out for a special day. We left disappointed and with a really bad impression. Would not recommend.

Yelp
I've been here a number of times and again, it's hit or miss. The most recent time I went, we were seated near the kitchen door that kept swinging open - not the best atmosphere. Another time I went, I was seated by the window that overlooked the gorgeous Old Mill property and had lots of light. The food here is pretty good for afternoon tea food. I never come here thinking that I will get full, but the pastries and bites are always decent.

Yelp
What is this beautiful piece of historical architecture doing in TDot? It belongs on the outskirts of some wine country estate, or close to some mountainous landscape. But nope, here it is. In super flat, very urbanized Toronto (Etobicoke actually), surrounded by highways rather than mountains. I came here for a wedding in the summer and one thing really stuck out to me: I felt like I was in a Harry Potter book. No, this isn't a joke about how "magical" the whole thing felt because of the power of love etc. etc. No actually, the inside reminds me of Hogwarts. It's got the dark wooden beams and the antique chandeliers. Throw in a few moving staircases and annoying ghosts and you've got yourself a full-out teenage wizard fantasy. If we're talking about "magical" in the traditional sense, it couldn't be felt more strongly than in the Old Mill wedding garden. It's a lovely little space surrounded by greenery and a raised area for the bride and groom to get married. It was absolutely gorgeous, even if it was a little awkward to get to. There are a lot of stone steps that wind around the building, but it sure was a scenic trip down. The bride had people at several checkpoints along the stone stair path telling us which way to go, like a marathon in dresses where people are telling you you're almost at the finish line! Now, my family came in with very low expectations for food, probably because we're biased against Western food at large events. More often than not, the chicken is dry and the veggies are bland. Old Mill blew through those expectations. The beef selection was an impressive 10oz piece that was tender and flavourful. The salmon was moist and covered in a tasty sauce. The only disappointment was the vegetarian option, which was some lasagna type creation that my mom didn't finish. I can only imagine this place is good for more than just weddings. They've got hotel rooms, spa services, and general brunch/dinner things going on. I can't speak to those, but if you're planning to a host a wedding, this is a solid consideration! Also great if you want to escape the harsh reality that you never received a letter telling you you're a wizard when you were 11. :'( (18/100) - 2017

Yelp
This historical building is beautiful by day but creepy at night. That old world feeling in a cozy place. We came here for a winterlicious dinner. The staff are very friendly. The Mediterranean Sea Bass is delicious but I don't like the baked green apple for my dessert. It's like you're eating 1 big hot apple.

Yelp
Before having an actual meal at the Old Mill, I experienced the hospitality of the staff when I was nearby kayaking on the Humber river and on another occasion touring the city. I was a bit intimidated while approaching the building but that all went away once I entered and was greeted by friendly faces who warmly directed me to the washroom. I've only had high tea but would go back again to try one of their buffet offerings. The dining room is beautiful and cozy. I enjoyed the croissant sandwich. The scones and desserts especially the marzipan checkered cake with fondant weren't my favourite. I did think the little jars of jam were cute. Our server took their time to explain the different teas to us and we were gifted with a box of black tea at the end of our meal which I always appreciate.

Yelp
I had lunch here about two months ago and ordered their lunch buffet. I have actually had their lunch buffet a on a few occasions about 10 years ago, and enjoyed the food and service during those time, so I had very high expectations during this visit. I must say that I was very disappointed with the lunch buffet this time. It has been about 10 years since I have last been here, and the quality of the food has certainly declined. The prime rib was the only item on the buffet which I can say was good, as it was fresh and hand carved, although a bit tough. The other meat item was the pork which was dry and bland. However, the most disappointing part of the buffet was the deserts. From my previous experiences, the dessert was always the best part of the buffet because there was plenty of variety, and all of it was fresh and homemade. The dessert selection this time was limited to a few options, which were dry and may have been homemade, but tasted store bought. The price of the buffet was very high at $29.99 per person, but I would not mind paying that price if their quality and selection was as good as it was before. I don't think I will be returning.

Yelp
This review is for the Afternoon High Tea. I was excited to try their Afternoon tea b/c I always hear about it and I've tried the various other hotels high tea. Monday - Thursday the high tea comes with UNLIMTED MIMOSAS. For $30 you get tea, pastries and unlimited drinks? No brainer for me. Make sure you either take the TTC/Uber or are not the designated driver - definitely get your unlimited mimosas onm b/c unfortunately that is the only redeeming thing I can say about this place. Parking is at the paid lot across the street. When you walk in, in order to get to the dining room for high tea you have a long way to go. Luckily there are signs, however when you get to the end, the hostess desk is way over on the other side (not sure how this makes sense...but ). The hostess was actually super sweet and seated me right away. I wish I knew her name b/c she was really nice. If you hope for any service...well..don't get your expectations up. I sat there for 22 minutes before any one bothered to come over. 22 minutes. No water, no tea, no even nod or smile in my direction. I actually had to wave someone over. If I came here on Fri-Sun and didn't get the mimosas I would be PISSED. The saddest looking pastries/sandwiches came out. I was too embarassed to take a photo. Zero taste, zero creativity, just plain old zero. A piece of bread with a cucumber on it. Salmon pinwheel with mayo - no capers, no herbs, no taste. Would I came back here? No. Not even for the mimosas.

Yelp
This review is for afternoon tea. I received a gift card for the Old Mill at my bridal shower ages ago, and finally got around to getting out for high tea. We were originally supposed to go during a weekday because they have unlimited mimosas included in the price, but it didn't work out. So, we went on a Saturday at 2:30 pm. No mimosas, but excited just the same. We were sat at a beautiful table in the atrium, and the server quickly brought us our choice of loose leaf tea. I chose a lightly fragrant Kyoto Sencha and my husband tried an iced wine tea. We didn't even know that was a type of tea that existed, but it was delicious! The server then brought the main event - the dainty finger sandwiches, scones and desserts. I was pleasantly surprised at how delicious absolutely everything was. The egg salad sandwich on the croissant was quite sizeable, tangy and fresh. I could go for one of those right now. The scones were buttery and super fresh, served with Ontario jams. Yum. Finally, the desserts, even though bite size, were delicious. My personal favourite was a citrus tart, but the shortbread was phenomenal. We definitely want to come again for high tea. I think the value for the price was really good (~$30 each). My only complaint was that a super loud and obnoxious bridal shower was seated in the atrium and it was so loud, we could barely hear each other speak. Afternoon tea is supposed to be a quiet affair, and that sort of ruined the mood. Not much the restaurant could do about that, but I was getting pretty annoyed.

Yelp
We ordered their Christmas Turkey Dinner for curbside pickup and it was fantastic. Everything in it tasted great and looked stunning. We also added a small ham and the dinner would have easily served many more than the suggested number. It was so nice to have a break after such a difficult year. Pick up was seamless and efficient.

Yelp
I am reviewing only the Sunday brunch. First and foremost, this place is absolutely gorgeous, and very old school. The Old Mill has a rich history and was designated a heritage site in 1983. As of 2001, they added a hotel and spa. The complex is built in the style of Tudor Revival Architecture and is also a venue for weddings. The restaurant is located in a very attractive hall within the complex. The buffet is plentiful. There is a table for salads, a table for cold seafood (such as 'peel and eat shrimp', smoked mackerel, cold muscles, etc.), a table for cold cuts, a table for cheese and breads, a buffet of offerings and a desert table. All of the food is quite tasty and is replenished often. In addition, there's a chocolate fountain! They say that "feedback is the breakfast of champions", so how about a chocolate feedback to start off your day? An added bonus is that the Old Mill is nestled right next to the beautiful and lush Humber River. After your brunch, you can take a stroll along the beautiful Discovery Trail and try to burn off some of those calories :-)

Yelp
My husband and I were here for a staycation this weekend. We were so impressed by its beauty, cleanliness, spacious room, and super services from staff, especially Jeff at the reception desk. Jeff was super friendly, pleasant, and helpful. We will be back here with our family next time!

Yelp
Came here for brunch on a Saturday. Steak and eggs and eggs Benedict very underwhelming. Would not get it again. Chicken and waffles and quiche were okay. Overall for the price and quality, I would not come back here again for brunch. Always wanted to come here bc it looked and seemed like a historical and fancy place. Called for reservations bc open table didn't show reservations and no one picked up the first five time. Parking lot was across the street.

Yelp
Gord and I spent an afternoon at the Old Mill Inn Spa. We'd been there in March for Gord's birthday and liked it so he treated me there for my birthday. Our first service was an hour long couple's massage. Belinda was my massage therapist and she was awesome! I'd had her in March too. She gives a deep massage. Then we had a pedicure. Stef gave me a Chocolate Peppermint Paddy Pedicure (Enjoy a peppermint patty while your tired tootsies are exfoliated, hydrated, massaged and polished to a high gloss.). My feet and legs smelled amazing afterwards! Jessica gave Gord a Men's Power Wash Pedicure (Enjoy cleansing, filing, buffing and scrubbing. Finish with a mud mask, power-washed off to leave your feet fully restored!). While we were getting our pedicure, we had a couple glasses of bubbly. With lots of colours to choose from, I choose "I'm Not Really a Waitress". I felt soooo relaxed and pampered afterwards. The staff at the Old Mill take such good care of us ... we'll be back!

Yelp
Review for afternoon tea: It's become tradition to visit Old Mill. I've been here with mom and with the SO multiple times, and each time we leave very happy. The architecture is gorgeous, an oasis tucked in the west end of the city. You're close to the downtown bustle but also removed. It's an ideal location, right off of Old Mill Station. Afternoon tea is $26.95 from Monday-Thursday, and only a bit more on weekends. There are 3 finger sandwiches, 2 scones, and a selection of pastries per person, so it's not an overwhelming amount of food. The food is more comforting and less fanciful with raw ingredients or presentation than, say, the Windsor Arms. But it costs almost half the amount and the location is far more leisurely. I found the waiter/hostess a bit brusque at first during seating, but everything went smoothly afterwards. Tea refills, collecting of foods, etc. all happened unobtrusively. We even got to take home a boxed tea set! (It's complimentary for aft tea). Only considerations: restaurant is hard to find, their parking lot seems to be free only for hotel guests and not dining ones, and the historical nature of the building gets stuffy. Otherwise, an awesome place to be.

Yelp
The old dame has gotten old and tired. Once a place where tea-goers and weddings and corporate functions filled the place and were rewarded with first class amenities and service has become a little old place in horrendous need of a sprucing up. Room noises abound (squeaks and buzzes) thru the night and despite the nice spaceous size of the rooms, they are in need of upgrades (USB port would be nice). It's only 5 stories, but when on 5 and your room key stops working each time you leave the room, it isn't adding the the enjoyment. Those of you lucky enough to stay and receive the free breakfast will be happy if you like coffee and muffins. Anything else (juice???) Is extra. It's 2018 folks, maybe time for a refurb a and change? Will not be back.

Yelp
Came here for the first time to try their Afternoon Tea, which is served at 2:30pm daily. We came on a Saturday, which meant no complimentary unlimited mimosas unfortunately (they have that only on weekdays!) We arrived at 2:15pm but we were told they can't let us in until 2:30 because thats when they "serve tea" which was fine. We were told to wait around the lobby but literally two minutes later someone came to get us to show us to our table. Our server quickly showed us the tea menu and we felt really rushed because he came back almost three times in the span of two minutes and he didn't not seem very pleased that we were still reading through the tea selections. Unlike other tea places, there were no samples available so we really needed time to read through the tea descriptions. When we gave in our tea orders, our 3-tier afternoon platter came instantly and we had both our tea and food by 2:25pm...not sure why they made a big deal about the time in the first place. The tea room was pretty full and it became really hard to hear my friends talk since there was a huge bridal shower behind us and many other tables surrounding us and we were all trying to speak over each other. The sandwiches and scones were okay, nothing that really amazed us. The croissant sandwich took up half the bottom plate and there were two mini cucumber and smoked salmon sandwiches so the proportions were a little weird. The biggest let down was the desserts. I think this was the first time i could not finish the dessert portion of an afternoon set (and the rare time i did not bother to take any pictures). All in all, i dont think I will come back for tea at least in the next while. However the hotel itself was a really nice venue to visit.

Yelp
Just attended my niece's bridal shower there. The people who work there were friendly and helpful. There small lunch buffet were nice and tasty. I would come back again.

Yelp
Visited Old Mill twice in the span of one week in July after never having been here before. 1st time: wedding with an outdoor ceremony in the garden followed by a reception indoors. The weather cooperated so the garden ceremony was lovely. The reception was very tastefully decorated and in terms of the food: decent salad app, beef skewer was chewy, chicken entrée was juicy, and chocolate mousse dessert was rich and delicious. 2nd time: lunch buffet on a weekday at their restaurant ($23 before taxes/tip on Mon-Tues, $28 Wed-Fri). The ambience was elegant but the lights were dimmed too much - given there are some steps/slope to reach the buffet area, you should be very mindful while walking around. The buffet was good in terms of quality but didn't have the variety in terms of mains that I expected - most of the options were salads. My favourite was the chicken in a chunky tomato sauce - super flavourful. Parking at the open lot across the street is available for $2/hour.

Yelp
The Old Mill is a dining experience that caters to an older crowd who grew up having dinner and a dance. The food was great but left the foodie in me wanting. All the earmarks or fine dining are here set in a backdrop of a fully restored mill in the heart of a bustling city . Truly an experience. The big band music was refreshing and an experience unto itself. I had the sea bass and shrimp cocktail and both were delicious, although I would have liked 5-6 shrimp in the cocktail for the price. The fruit bowl had 3 types of fruit (I would have liked something more exotic than honey dew, pineapple and cantaloupe) and should have been served with a few slices of mild cheese perhaps. Overall I was happy with the experience and would go back.

Yelp
**If you read any part of this review, please pay special attention to the departure Horrible experience. My friend organized a surprise stay at the Old Mill Inn & Spa for my (new) husband and I on our wedding night this past June 24th, 2018. My friend booked the room via booking dot com (please note that her review was taken down in less than 24 hours of posting). My friend booked a suite with a king bed, two-person tub and paid for extra special touches (special touches included: roses petals - which in our case were wilted and not fresh, battery-powered candles, a box of 4 truffles and a small bottle of bubble bath). My friend exchanged a few emails (via booking dot com) with the hotel to confirm that my husband and I would have a stress-free night. She stressed that we would be newly married and to immediately contact her in the event of any issues. Please note that our room was prepaid (i.e., it was paid for in advance but we would be responsible for any incidentals or room service). The hotel also agreed to give us late check out between the time period of 2-3pm. Here is how our stay went: Arrival - I am in my wedding dress, my groom is in his tuxedo; in all of our wedding bliss, this blushing bride forgot to take out her wallet. I am holding our solemnization of marriage. The person at the desk (I believe his name was, Mike) had a very offensive and curt tone with us and let us know that "although [the solemnization] is a legal document, it is a piece of paper and anyone could have printed that out." My husband offers his ID and credit card, Mike refuses his ID but swipes his credit card. I question him to ask how he can take his card if he won't take his ID. I ask him if he can just let us into the room because my movement is restricted so that I can take out my ID. I ask him what the chances are that someone with the same name and wedding date as communicated via the booking would show up at the Old Mill in a wedding dress with proof of marriage. Mike says the names don't match (not true). I ask to see a manager, the manager takes my husband's ID and gives us the keys. Please note I had contacted my friend during this exchange and before giving us the keys, my friend called in. While on the phone with our friend (in front of us), the manager dismisses my friend and tells her that since she booked using a third party site she will have to use said website to change the name on the booking to my husband's (rather than mine). My husband and I ask him why he was making her take additional unnecessary steps when he had already resolved the situation. We are told our check out is from 2-3pm. **Departure (check out):** Recall that our friend booked our room with late check out, with the check out window being between 2-3pm (we have an email confirmation from the hotel with this, if I can figure out how to post a photo with the review, I will attach a screenshot). 2:08 pm - there is a call to the room, a woman calls and asks if we are staying an additional day, I let her know that we are not; she tells us our check out time was scheduled for 2pm, I let her know that is not correct and tell her that I have a confirmation email stating the check out time as between 2 and 3pm. She accepts this and hangs up. 2:30 pm - phone rings; my husband and I are packing so we ignore the call. The phone stops ringing. There is a knock on the door. I answer the door and there is a visibly angry woman, above average height, brunette with hair swept up and larger in size. The woman tells us that if we are not out in 10 mins, she will be calling the police. She goes on to say that check out time was at 12 o'clock and it is now "way past 12 o'clock." I let her know that we paid for late check out and the interval was between 2pm and 3pm. She tells me that "we did not pay for anything." She iterates that if we don't get out the police will be coming and repeats her threats about calling the police within 10 mins. I tell her if that is indeed the case then to please leave and let us finish packing so that we can get out. I proceed to shut the door. My husband heard the entire exchange. After we leave the room, we go to the check out desk where there is another woman (presumably the woman that called us), I ask for the room service bill of 26.95 to be absorbed by the hotel since we were disturbed multiple times and also threatened with the police. I ask for a manager, the same brunette woman comes out. I tell her I want an apology. She refuses. She says that I slammed the door in her face and she threatened us with the police in response to that. My husband calls out the falsehood, she snubs my husband and says he couldn't have possibly hear the exchange at the door. She accuses me of having "acted like 'this.'" As we walk out, we hear the manager & staff member loudly talking behind us. No apology. Please note the only bill my husband and I paid for (at check out) was $26.95 for dessert.

Yelp
When I say this was the worst experience I have ever been through, I completely mean it. I wish I could not even put one star, because it does not deserve it. I seldom write reviews, but I feel so strongly on this one that I feel I have to warn everyone to stay FAR AWAY from The Old Mill Restaurant. I was hosting my bridal shower at the restaurant. I met with Alexa, the coordinator, who appeared to have her affairs in order upon first meeting. This was far from the truth. Even though she rudely kept getting up during our initial meeting to talk to other hostesses/servers, I still overlooked that as I am not a picky person at all when it comes to these sort of things. In hindsight, this should have been my first red flag. Incredibly unprofessional. My fiance and I decide to do brunch at the restaurant after booking the venue and I recall both of us regretting our choice immensely. Our waiter was horrible, literally we got our food 1.5 hours after we ordered it (it was not busy), and I remember getting anxious that I had just booked this venue and am experiencing horrible service at a simple brunch..... Back to Alexa. She did not reply to ANY of my emails (I am not exaggerating), and I was quite literally left in the dark until the day before my event, where I had to call ON MY OWN to confirm the details of the menu. She promised me a section of the restaurant that I specifically requested, took my credit card information down, and said she would contact me a week prior to my event to confirm details. On the Tuesday that she was supposed to call me, she did not. She messaged me 2 hours later and said she was "in a meeting" and wanted to call me then. I said she could call me, and still, she did not. I emailed her the following day, and she still did not contact me back. On the Thursday, (2 days before my event), I received an email from some other woman (I still think it was Alexa, pretending to have an assistant as she knew she had messed up), and this woman was confirming which items I wanted to choose from the menu. I replied back, asking for someone to call me, and then radio silence again. On the Friday, I had to call the hostess station to confirm that I still had that section, and I confirmed which menu items I wanted. The day of the event. As I predicted to all of my friends and family, she had completely made a disaster of my event. The section of the restaurant promised to me was full of people eating- it was 4:50 p.m., and my event was scheduled for 5:00 p.m. I ask to speak to the manager, also incredibly rude and I could not catch her name but she was blonde with an accent (my event was on September 24, 2022 at 5:00 p.m., I am sure the Old Mill can look up who it was), and she decides it to be wise to speak down to my friends and family and states "It is the brides day, let's not upset her". EXCUSE ME?! YOU have upset me. She was pursing her lips, rolling her eyes at my mother in law and friends. I have never seen such disgusting behaviour in my life. The ONLY, and when I say ONLY, I mean ONLY, saving grace was Peter, our server. He was efficient, quick, and was on top of everything. He was polite, and I think he could do MUCH BETTER than the Old Mill. Such a horrible, disgusting experience and I will NEVER ever ever come back or recommend this venue to my clients again. (I am a wedding planner). I highly recommend you don't host an event here either, unless you are ready to be disappointed.

Yelp
My husband and I spent a night here for a quick getaway. We are from Michigan and this place seemed pretty nice. We purchased our room on hotels.com and the check in was a breeze. We had a king bed room with a jacuzzi tub in the bathroom. Room 516. Upon entering our room, light jazz music was playing and the fire going. Such a nice gesture! The room was clean and was easy to get around in. We had dinner reservations downtown for 8 and since it was pretty early still we went down to the bar for some drinks and pre-dinner snacks. Both were amazing! That bar is such a romantic spot with the sitting areas ot has. After we returned from dinner, the room had been turned down for the night. Fire was going again, bottled water on the bedside. Chocolates on the bed. Again, such a nice gesture. The only issue we had was our room key only worked half the time. We had 3 different keys while we were there. In the morning I had booked us the Sunday brunch and that was probably the best brunch weve ever had. We definitely will be back in warmer months to enjoy all the gardens!!

Yelp
Not the high tea experience we were expecting. The food tastes good and the service is efficient, but it has a warehouse feel about the way it's delivered. No explanation of what is being presented and the tea is fairly week. The good high tea locations understand that it's the whole experience and not just the food.

Yelp
Super disappointing. We came here because it was supposed to have a good high tea and wanted to treat Mum for Mother's Day. When I saw the menu I asked if I could skip one of the salmon sandwiches for more of the other kind because I was vegetarian. The woman asked if I'd ordered ahead and when I told her I hadn't, she flat out refused to help me. It wasn't like I was asking them to make me something new other than what they already ordered. She wasn't even kind about it. Definitely not the kind of service I'd expect at an establishment or price point that they were offering. The tea they had on offer was 70% flavored tea with saccharine sweet flavors like "creme brûlée" - very few traditional teas you'd expect at an actual high tea. It appeared they were catering to the tastes of tourist trash. The food came out immediately - literally as soon as we sat down - which infers there's some kind of mass production happening behind the scenes. Nothing was presented to us, just dropped on the table. No one was around to bring us the cheque or help us after. The whole experience is was terrible. Such a shame, because the setting was actually really lovely. Everything came out immediately, no explanation of what it was. Food was beyond average and the service was terrible!

Yelp
We came here for the Thanksgiving Buffet ($44.95 per person + tax + tip) last year, as our respective families don't really celebrate Thanksgiving. My fiance and I arrived promptly for our 8 pm reservation, but didn't get seated until half an hour later. People tend to take their sweet time at buffets. The restaurant was packed with hungry diners, and all servers were pretty much running around everywhere. The food stations were centrally located in the middle of the room, which was nice. Of course, it's much cheaper to cook a full meal at home, but we're essentially paying for the convenience of not needing to cook or clean, so I was content with that. Overall, I was happy with the food selection, including the variety of desserts available. The one thing that I didn't really like was that the roast beef was too chewy, but other than that, it wasn't bad at all.

Yelp
SHAME!!! HORRIBLE Service! We have been there multiple nights on multiple occasions. Old mill used to be one of the best placed in GTA to celebrate and to dine. First of all, staff is extremely rude, our waiter was taking plates out of peoples hands, regardless if you are finished or not. I asked the waiter to leave my plate since i am not done, so she stood behind my back watching me eat. I heard another person from different table telling waiter off and to leave the places..after which she came back as soon as the guest stood up the plates were gone. Half way throughout the dinner ALL tables (16 table of 10 people each), waiter removed all knifes and dinner wear. My wife went to the bathroom and she was not served, when I told them someone is sitting there, they replied " there are no-one there" at which point I was forced to dispute. Most of the things are outdated, now it's not what it used to be...The OLD MILL that I know does not exist any more. Don't waste your time or money there, you will not receive the service you are hoping for.

Yelp
Have you ever witnessed how Pop Tarts are made? There's a video on YouTube called, "How it's Made - Toaster Pastries / Pop Tarts." It's a really fun video. In this analogy, my wife and I are the pop tarts and Old Mill Toronto (OMT) is the conveyor belt machine doohickey. You're on a wedding conveyor belt machine doohickey. This wedding conveyor belt machine doohickey churns out couples at a rapid pace. I think I saw five other couples whose receptions were happening at the same time as ours. And they kept coming (or going) throughout the day. There were newlyweds and wedding photographers practically tripping over each other. Also seen: bridal parties eyeing other bridal parties while making faces that said, "OMG can you believe they wore that?" So entertaining. Honestly, the experience felt very impersonal. Not to suggest that the OMT staff weren't great. They did their duties quite well, and then some. It just felt like we were... pop tarts. There were moments where I felt annoyed that OMT wasn't willing to budge on aspects of our reception. But now I realize why they didn't budge. Because they didn't need us. We needed (wanted) them. There are hundreds of couples waiting in the wings to take your spot if you decide to opt out, and OMT knows it. The food was great. Everyone I asked (after) really enjoyed the food. I also really enjoyed the food. The appetizers were probably my favorite, but all of the courses (including the dessert) were well made, beautifully presented and tasted quite delicious. Or this is true for what little I was able to eat. No one tells you that you don't get to enjoy the food on your wedding day. I would have liked to know that. What kind of terrible world do we live in where you can't even enjoy food on your wedding day? The service was kind of hit-or-miss according to the guests. They were apparently training some new staff members during our reception, which led to some delays in the food being served to some of our guests. I was a little disappointed to hear about that. But the OMT staff also assisted in mitigating a disaster with our wedding cake, so kudos on that front. The grounds are beautiful. The hotel is beautiful. The restaurant they have is pretty good. We've had the food there, and it's kind of pricey (by my standards at least, maybe Torontonians think it's normal) but not exorbitantly so. I don't think the quality of the food (at least this is true for what we had) justified the prices though. The only other issue we had was due to mis-communication or confusion... or something. We were supposed to get a room the night of the wedding, but we found out a week before the wedding that all of the rooms were booked for that night. So we had to spend our honeymoon night elsewhere, but OMT put us up the following night in a Deluxe King Suite so mostly fine I suppose. That Deluxe King Suite though... Fan-freakin'-legen-wait for it-dary-tastic. For one night, I felt like money. Not any of that "self-made millionaire" nonsense. I felt like old money. I felt like a trust fund baby who has never had to work for anything in his life. I felt like... Chuck Bass. It was glorious. So glorious. I'm crying a little thinking about that room right now. Edit: So when we were considering Old Mill (and other venues) for our wedding reception, one of the things they told us (in an attempt to sweeten the deal I'm sure) was that we would get a free night's stay on our first anniversary. When we tried to take them up on the offer, they conveniently had no idea what we were talking about. And it wasn't in the contract, since we were told to take them at their word on it. And looking through the other reviews, it looks like they've pulled this nonsense with at least one other person. That's kinda d*ckish, you know?

Yelp
Came here for a Sunday brunch buffet for my mother's burthday. It's a little pricey but there is a huge selection. It's one of those places you just go once to experience. Might need reservations. it's also a great place to take photos for the family on a nice sunny day.

Yelp
Been here for: - Afternoon tea - Wedding reception Pros - quaint and old-style Victorian (sorry if my architecture references are wrong!) establishment; it's got a really nice, British vibe to everything (the decor, the way the place is set up etc.), and so it matches really well with what you're going to The Old Mill for. - the outside gardens are nice for strolling around in; the restaurants and dining areas itself are secluded from each other and allows for privacy - food is better than average, but not mind-blowing ("OMG I MUST COME BACK AGAIN!" - out of all the nicer end afternoon tea locations in Toronto, the Old Mill is one of the cheaper ones (~$20/person M-F) Cons - quite pricey for wedding reception meal - a bit of a confusing labyrinth of hallways; the Old Mill was previously a mansion-style home, and so the restaurants, dining areas, rooms and spas are located all over, and you need to pay attention to the signs in order to get to where you're going! Easy to get lost! - CONFUSION: it really is easy to get confused and disoriented at The Old Mill - you're not 100% sure where to park, where to walk into the building, where your restaurant is, where this is and where that is. Make sure you KNOW which dining room you want to get to, and once you park, find the closest staff member to direct you there! - must make reservations; difficult to dine here w/o them. Overall: The food is a bit pricey, but the environment more than makes up for it. It's a nice place to go if you're looking to drop some cash for a nice date or if you're a female and looking to spend some bonding time w/ other girls for an afternoon tea date.

Yelp
Pro: beautiful scenery Hot food was actually hot. Nice server Cons: Stressed out hostess & supervisor for their "stressful" job If you are not in a seat, you will be attacked Watch out for the cheese cake, not chilled... Small buffet area, lots of crowding. No air conditioning/ air circulation Beautiful establishment. But please do not go there for brunch. Their staff is under such extreme stress and "pressure" that as soon as I walked through the door, hostess lady screamed "if you have a reservation, please GET IN LINE"(no more than 12 people at the front desk). Not off to a good start. As I walked passed her to find my family members who already had a table, an older gentlemen aggressively asked if I knew where I was going... I didn't have a floor plan of this restaurant, but I knew the general direction. He then immediately stormed off mumbling god knows what. Fortunately the table server was extremely nice and the food was decent. But not 52 dollars decent. 39 base fee + mandatory 18% tip and standard 13% tax. But it doesn't stop there... we got another uplift in charge because we had one extra person join us for brunch not part of the initial reservation. Just to be clear, price is not an issue. But I can't justify paying good money for sub-par service.

Yelp
Not my kind of place. Came here for Sunday brunch to celebrate my father in law's 65th birthday. Apropos, as almost everyone there was 65+. The place itself is quaint, reminiscent of an olden-timey inn which would be perfect for romantic wedding photos. I think that's what most people come here for anyway - there's a Wedding Garden, rustic bricks and doors and all around charming style. I guess it's the antique style ambiance that you pay for, because the food isn't the greatest. Set as two buffet stations in the main area/pagoda-type spot, these stations are actually mirror images of a single buffet. Meaning that basically, you're offered one station of hot foods and one salad bar with cold foods - these service tables are doubled within the same spot, but they're also serving the same food items. Why not more variety? The roast beef, when brought out straight from the oven, is served medium-rare at one end and well-done on the other. Knowing this golden tidbit of info, the regulars rush to the table when a new slab of beef is served, so your only chance of getting one of those coveted slices is to eye the salad table, pretending to be highly interested in the pickled herring with sour cream (actually, not bad) and then swarming in like beef is your commission at first opportunity. Other offerings of the day: your usual cheeseboard (with single-cream Brie, ew, anything less than double cream is sacrilege), a deli platter, a pale arugula with blue cheese and strawberry salad, lettuce with olives and stuff on the side for a DIY garden salad, a wheatberry with cranberries mix, smoked salmon, mussels (quite good, large and plump, maybe they're the Salt Spring sort?) with bits of "Asian sauce" (please do not ask me what that is, I have a sinking feeling that Urban Dictionary will not give me the answer I want to know), little baby shrimps in a sort of salad, some tiny, shell-on shrimp beside a large bowl of cocktail sauce, and some bread plus rather dry pastries. On the hot items end, aside from the roast beef with gravy, resides a roast pork (skipped by most diners as it looked like a clump of fat), roast lamb, Boursin cheese mashed potatoes, bacon, scrambled eggs, waffles, blintzes, and umm...umm... I guess nothing very memorable. Tea & coffee are included in the $35 per diner price. To be fair, I overheard an elderly lady loudly state "The food is NO GOOD today, I tell you. I have nothing good to say about the food AT ALL." Heh heh. Service was nice and friendly. The gentleman serving the beef was jovial and eager to dole out slices cut to order. The waitstaff clearing plates and offering drinks were clearly and understandably tired on the busy long weekend Sunday, but always remained positive and helpful. I'm just not feelin the food.

Yelp
This is a review of Old Mills as a wedding and reception venue from a guest's perspective. (see my lists for more). One of the few venues in the City that is subway accessible, and has nature, tons of picturesque spots right on the grounds, and you can have your ceremony and reception all in the same place. We had considered this for our own wedding, but I wasn't a fan of the outdoor ceremony area , in the back of the building, although secluded, wasn't really the look I was going for. When we were here for the wedding this time, we went to go find this area to see it first hand, and it was a mission and half, walking all that way. The other thing about the place is that it's also a restaurant, hotel and there will be other events happening the same night as yours. Easy for people crash your wedding, or have things stolen (like I saw some hotel guests walk by and TOOK SOME OF THE FAVOURS that were sitting at the table (for the people that didn't show up). It's absolutely rude and so disrespectful makes me hate the human race a little bit.) Other than that, this venue has been in the business for ever. My parents got married here, and I don't think it's changed one bit. When we arrived, the ceremony was taking place in the chapel. It was a little awkward to gather in the little hallway before entering the tiny door to get to the chapel. I think it might have been better to seat people as they arrived, rather than waiting and you wonder if you're in the right place or not. The chapel is small, so expect some standing room only for those that are having a big wedding. After, was some picture taking and cocktails. We had access to the ballroom almost immediately which was nice, and the couple had coordinated someone to get us for photos when it was our turn. The couple ended up taking photos just outside the main entrance on the grassy area. It was nice, and right in front of the house, but not sure if they knew (or were allowed to go) about the fountain and bridge on the other side. Maybe they already had other pics done there. The large ballroom (2 of them opened up) was able to fit a huge head table about 14-16 people (their family) on a long rectangle facing the dance floor. The dance floor was also a good size too. Wooden, and not slippery. I am so picky about food and service when it comes to these things. I have to say, the food was very good and no complaints about that at all! Soup, salad, steak/chicken or veggie pot pie, chocolate mouse. The service was okay, they were decent. All serving from the same side, but noticed that they would drop the plates down forcefully like throw them on the table, as opposed to placing them. After all the formalities, they didn't do much to clear the tables from glasses etc. Which in a way was kind of nice, so I can put my drink down without fear (and waste) that someone would take it. Overall, I would have to say it's one of the better venues I've been to. With lots of areas to explore, you'll never feel cramped or bored - but might walk into the wrong wedding at some point.

Went there for a wedding and reception and was very impressed as to how organized they were about it. Everyone there was very friendly and helpful and seemed to be used to people asking them dumb questions like the ones I did. The wedding was a success and the location was great.
