service & atmosphere were great, the place is cute and server very sweet. the pho was alright, not bad at all, it was actually very good but just nothing mind blowing. love to see an asian restaurant do well tho!!

Google
Amazing food and friendly staff. This place made my day. Their Thai Tea was also very refreshing. I got a Special Pho and it was so delicious! The chef here did an amazing job with creating our dishes with homemade feel. We left feeling happy. Thank you for such an amazing experience.

My wife and I came to Portland on a freezing cold, rainy day at the end of May—which already felt like a cruel joke. We stumbled upon a noodle house and thought, “Perfect, let’s warm up with some hot, comforting ramen.” I ordered the shrimp hot and sour ramen, encouraged by the glowing photos on their menu and all the food pics in the reviews. Looked legit. But when my bowl arrived, I genuinely thought they had poured boiling water over a block of 99-cent instant noodles and called it a day. The shrimp was fine. The broth? Tasted like it came straight from one of those little silver seasoning packets you rip open and regret. It was as if someone had read about ramen once and thought, “Eh, close enough.” I left cold, hungry, and deeply betrayed by soup. Not sure what I ate—but I can confidently say it wasn’t ramen. My wife meal was equally bland.

Good food and service. Not a fan of an oriental restaurant showing sports in three big screens but at least they were muted.

Google
Had a wonderful late lunch here — excellent variety of dishes, welcoming atmosphere, and a visit from the chef who made us all laugh. Really just a pleasant experience all around — some of the best pad Thai ever; crispiest and most flavorful chicken, and more. Stop by — you won’t be disappointed!

Google
Got pad Thai- granted, it was late at night around 11- but it had no peanut taste mostly sweet and sour- which I’ve never had before: If you like sweet then you may enjoy- if not I’d suggest something else. Karaoke was super fun to watch!

Google
My wife (who is Taiwanese) and I came for dinner. She was craving hot soup on a chilly night. She got the House Special Pho, and was impressed. She said it hit the spot. I had the Pad Thai with meat combo. It was good. I asked for 3/4 spice, and I thought it was mild. It's a little on the sweet side. It's a large restaurant with nice decor, with Karaoke on Friday night

Google
The issue here is that the food we got was infused, with what I can only assume was the gas from the wok. Now, either they didn't care or didn't notice. Either way, that's not ok. The smell was wafting off the food. It made it inedible. The place is cute inside. The portions are generous. But, you have to take responsibility for the food you serve.

Yelp
I've been to over 5 Thai restaurants in town and am always disappointed when I don't get Old Port. They have the best sauces, noodles, and service. It's a must!

Yelp

Yelp
Parking is on street (metered) or in a garage. Pro-tip, go after 6pm or on a Sunday and metered parking is free. A friend told me I just HAD to try Old Port Noodle House if I liked pad thai. She was not wrong. They give you a generous amount. The flavor was on point with an authentic Thai restaurant. The sauce, peanut and noodle measurements made for the perfect bite every time. The chicken satay had big chunks of meat on the stick and the peanut butter sauce was so good! Our waitress was super sweet and attentive. Prices were reasonable (not outrageous as many Old Port spots can be). I'll definitely go back here.

Yelp
Comforting Vietnamese and Thai food in a simple but nice restaurant, decent prices and good portions, friendly service, and a very nice location along the waterfront. We got a vegetarian pho (yes, the broth is vegetarian) and a vermicelli bowl with peanut sauce and it was lovely. The peanut sauce was more of a Thai-style peanut sauce, but I wish they gave us the Vietnamese-style peanut sauce, though they're all delicious.

Yelp
Fantastic bowl of pho...very flavorful...went to Portland for fresh seafood but couldn't resist. Definitely on the pricier end than what I'm used to but it is what it is....

Yelp
Had an awesome dinner here late on Saturday night. Good service and delicious food with HUGE portions. I had the chicken larb and got three meals out of it.

Yelp
WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE - DO NOT GIVE THIS MAN YOUR BUSINESS we had dinner here on Christmas Eve, and noticed that the main dining room became very smoky, likely due to the kitchen working hard on a busy night. My mom ended up having a severe asthma attack and was rushed to critical care, where she spent the night. She nearly died, and it was a christmas miracle that she survived. While this was happening in the restaurant, no one on the staff offered to help us or even asked if she was okay, they just handed me the bill. I thanked them, apologized for the disturbance, tipped generously (over 20%), and rushed to the hospital. Now that this is all said and done, my mom is trying to figure out what triggered such a severe medical emergency. She called the restaurant today asking for the ingredients list of the meal she ordered, just to try to keep track of what has been triggering her. My mom, might I add, is the sweetest and most polite person. The man who answered was extremely rude and responded 'that happened over a month ago, what do you want me to do?' And refused to help her. I then called and asked to speak with him. The first woman who answered was very kind and apologetic, but the same man was just downright nasty. He repeated the same thing to me, and I said we are just asking for ingredients. He said it's a secret recipe and generally just was speaking with the nastiest, most terrible tone. I asked him why he was being so rude, and he said 'that's just how I am what do you want from me!!!' I will admit I then called him an a**hole, because at this point I was horrified and fed up at the lack of care, concern, or general kindness from this person. He hung up on me twice, yelled at me, told me 'YOU STARTED IT!!!!' When I said he was being rude, and provided the WORST customer service I have ever experienced. DO NOT GIVE YOUR MONEY TO THIS MAN.

Yelp
Great food and selection. Service was quick and friendly. Nice spot right on the main road by the harbor. Highly recommend getting your food spicy if you like some heat. Try to go here every time I'm in town.

Yelp
Our party of four came in on a Sunday afternoon around 2:30pm and we found the restaurant incredibly understaffed and table service to be nearly non-existent. The table we were seated at was also absolutely filthy. After 45 minutes waiting for our appetizers, we just left. Save you money, go elsewhere.

Persephone M.

Yelp
Delicious pho with all the fixens. Good beverage selection. Friendly staff. Great location.

Yelp
I was in Portland for a conference and stopped in because I was in desperate need of soup or noodles. It was a cold and rainy day. I ordered the Tom Yum chicken soup and it was delicious. Then for my main meal, I had the drunken noodles. All good eating here. The ambiance was very nice too. I am not giving it a 5 star because it felt like something was missing. But I don't know what.

Katie E.

Yelp
We ordered Pad Thai, Chicken Satay, and another noodle dish. Chicken satay was a good portion ( peanut sauce was not that flavorful), but decent. When the other two dishes came out, the Pad Thai tasted like dirty dishwater... literally inedible. The other dish was not great, a weird flavor. The waitress never came back to ask if we needed anything or to see how things were going, until she brought the bill. She saw the Pad Thai on the table uneaten. We said this tasted terrible. She said "oh!". Not even a "sorry you didn't enjoy it". Would not recommend this restaurant in Portland, Maine... too many other great places to go that have delicious food and better service. (response to their response): That is not true that we came in mad at the world. I think you might have been understaffed. But there was never an opportunity to tell you the dish was not good. You never came back.

Yelp
Amazing find in Portland: Vietnamese/Thai food, prepared *without MSG*. Again: no monosodium glutamate. Delicious, fresh, reasonably priced, and super friendly service in a fantastic location.

Yelp
So, so bad. I ordered vegetarian spring rolls and was given literal burnt, stringy, "spring" fried rolls full of chicken. I didn't realize this and got very sick. The "vermicelli" was full of rotten vegetables. Inedible. I can eat most things, but I fear for my life with this dish. Not good. Never again. Stay away.

Yelp
My husband and I had such an amazing experience in Portland last week and especially at The Old Port Noodle House. We actually went there twice, having our final meal there before heading back to Maryland. The pan fried dumplings and spring rolls are a must to start, you won't regret. Tony, the owner came over to us and spoke like we had known him for years. We discussed Portland, places to eat, things to do, life in general and owning our own businesses. The beef satay sticks did not disappoint and the Thai red curry with chicken knocked it out of the park. Tony if you and your family are ever in Maryland, please connect with us, we have some excellent places for you to see. Thank you for your hospitality and delicious food!

Yelp
The crab rangoons are god-tier, literally A++ I loved them so much. The house special pho was also amazing, and the vibes were so cute there. It's a sit-yourself type thing, and the servers were so nice! Will definitely be back

Yelp
This place seems to be a hit-or-miss, depending on the day. My partner and I visited on a snowy Sunday evening and we left pleasantly surprised by a few things while disappointed in some others. Let's start with the menu. We were quite impressed with the lengthy menu. They offered pages and pages of Asian dishes -- from pho and noodles to fried rice and curry. Given the name of the restaurant, we were mostly expecting noodles, but they offered so much more than that. We started our dinner with the crab rangoons and fried dumplings, which arrived after our entrées. I ordered the Phở Thịt Bằm (minced meat pho) while my partner got the Masaman Curry. I asked for my pho to be really spicy and for them to add an egg in it, and my partner asked for his dish to be mildly spicy. The server that took our order -- without using any kind of notepad and just memorizing everything -- must've messed it up because my pho was not spicy at all, and my partner's dish was definitely not "mild" but instead SUPER spicy. I also never got the egg I asked for in my dish. While the Masaman Curry was absolutely delicious, the pho was underwhelming. It tasted more like bland soup, and I had to drown it in sriracha to give it some flavor. Although the appetizers were good, the Crab Rangoons barely had a filling. What annoyed us the most about Veranda Noodle House was the service, or lack there of. Even though the restaurant was quite empty, it took forever to get our order in, our food was not cooked like we asked (additions + spice level), we never got small plates for appetizers, and even getting cutlery was somewhat of a mission. Would we return? Yes, solely for the food and to order something a bit more flavorful than the pho.

Yelp
Delicious ramen noodle bowl. The flavor was exceptional. Great service. The next time I'm in Portland, I'll be stopping in again.

Yelp
Everything was delicious, and the server was super sweet. I recommend sitting by the bar if you go by yourself. Definitely in my top 3 favorite restaurant in OP!!

Yelp
Fresh spring rolls with vegetables: Vietnamese style fresh rolls. Dipping sauce of fish sauce, vinegar, and crushed peanuts. Spicy basil salmon: Steamed, though you can also get it fried. They were out of haddock, which is the standard fish for this dish, so I got a free upgrade. Zesty but not overwhelming sauce. Nice vegetables. Good portion for the price, yielding two meals. Wife's vegetable-tofu pho: Simple but satisfying. Vegetables bold with color and fresh tasting. Everything was fine, nothing was noteworthy for being disappointing or outstanding. Would have no qualms about coming back.

Yelp
Unassuming soup place near my hotel, must've strolled by it 15 times before going in very late, before they closed. I got a huge bowl of Tom yum vegetarian soup which was spicy and delicious. Perfect because I wasn't feeling well and took it to go. Great prices and nice simple place.

Yelp
Nice location, clean, welcoming. Great food and fabulous service. Very accommodating and trying new recipes. Love this place

Yelp
Karaoke Friday Nights - 8pm to 12am. Great Time! Excellent food and pleasant environment.

Yelp
This restaurant is not consistent. I love their vermicelli bowl (V17 is my favorite) and have had it at their Westbrook and Portland locations. Their beef is sweet and delicious (excellent balance of flavor). Their sweet and sour sauce is a very Americanized version where you can hardly detect the fish sauce. My last meal was perfectly prepared but short on the beef and they overdid the sprouts and lettuce, plus they raised their prices. The service is always friendly!

Yelp
Fantastic food, good service, plenty of room for large groups and portions that will make you cry tears of joy.

Yelp
After about five or six orders from veranda noodle house, I think I have the perfect take on it. Here's the top level points. 1. I would only ever do takeout from this place. This is not a place you'd ever wanna eat inside of. 2. You're better off sticking to shareable appetizers on this menu. keep it to the basics , crab Rangoon's, fried rice, potstickers and dumplings. Get some rice and chicken. Don't stray far away from that. 3. Finally, don't expect this food to blow your face off. it just is what it is. Takeout Chinese from a normal takeout Chinese place. If you expect more, you will end up disappointed.

Yelp
We found this place on yelp, came here for lunch. It's lunch time, but there is nobody there. We ordered pad Thai, i had Vietnamese pho soup. The food was on the table really fast, girlfriend say the pad Thai is too sweet, my pho is ok. The beaf is too thick for pho.

Yelp
I live right around the corner and i've been dozens of times. in all the time i've ordered they've forgotten one thing? if you've ever worked in food service you would know that's really good. the reviews are hit or miss but idk what they did to get such bad service. tip 20-30% and i promise you will have a good time lmao pro tip: i get takeout every time and just show up 10 min late. not sure why everyone on yelp is so annoyed, be nicer? lol lastly, as a person who has worked in food service, remember that most of the people downloading help are here to write a bad review and not the other way around. they are phenomenal and im here to speak louder than the others. my first job was at a chinese food restaurant and the vibe is just very specific and it's clear a lot off people have never needed to work in one. they are bomb, tip them well, be a nice person.

Yelp
Great soups and noodles. I ate at the bar but had plenty of seating. Wide variety of dishes available. Took bartender recommendation of Pho Tai. Super tender meat, great tasting broth and nice portion. Very good.

Yelp
Very good Pho and the vermicelli was hearty and flavorful!! Music was a bit boring but service was very good !!
google avatar

Ashley J.

Yelp
The service was fine, really awkward sports bar vibe going on Inside. I will say I got the beef ramen and it was truly very very bad. I did not even finish it, all of the meat was flavorless and the noodles and broth were essentially the same. Really disappointed that I paid 20 bucks for a ramen that tastes worst than store bought. My husband loved his pork salad bowl and that meat looked great. I highly advise they review their menu and only keep what they are good at making. The ramen was simply not it.

Yelp
I'm visiting from Southern California where Vietnamese food is known for the best in the country. But oh wow this place definitely took me by surprise! Their Pho soup and stir fried noodles are much tastier than what I had in CA!!! I came here several times since my hotel is only a few minutes away and the servers remembered what I ordered and my preference for the spicy level. Such a great customer service! The restaurant is not too big or too small, however they did a great job with the decoration. Especially the full bar area with two nice TVs so I can catch the games while enjoying the delicious food and good drinks! Definitely going back here when I'm in town in the future.
google avatar

Lana H.

Yelp
This review is solely for its pho. The broth is amazing and hot and a very flavorful at that . Its proportion of broth, noodles and meat is right on. The service to put the order in is a bit slow but for us on a Thursday night near closing , we got pho pretty quick. Will definitely come here again for its pho
google avatar

Nat Z.

Yelp
Really enjoyed my pho bo vien and my coffee, but I'm not sure what all is wrong with the flow of the cosmos when this runs me $33-- $18 for the pho, then it looked like $5 for the coffee and then tax plus a $5 tip. The service was great and the overall ambience is perhaps unremarkable at best-- not gonna win any awards but it's entirely pleasant enough. For half the price, this would be five stars. There are plenty of places that will serve you more pho for a much lower price. Same with the dishes, which ranged from the mid-10s to the 20s for things that... well, shouldn't cost that much. At the very least, perhaps abolish tipping by indicating that you're paying your workers fairly. I dunno-- great food but it left a bad taste in my mouth, proverbially if certainly not literally. ;)

Kelly C.

Yelp
We have visited this place last couple years on my birthday. This last time we ordered the appetizer for 2 and pad tai. So much food and they served it with 4 different dipping sauces...amazing!!!! It's our go to spot now whenever we visit!
google avatar

Elaine D.

Yelp
Really enjoyed the food and barbecue. The pork and fish was really tasty. The waitress was really nice as well. The cold noodles was excellent as well. The only thing was that the portion was too large. Next when we go back, we will not order that much food.
google avatar

Mallory D.

Yelp
So delicious!! We ordered the crab Rangoon which I was really excited as other reviews raved about them but we ended up with spring rolls in our bag. Since we ordered takeout we didn't realize until we got home. The scallop pad Thai was the best I've ever had and the peanut sauce was a little sweet but with a level 3 heat it paired nicely!
google avatar

Robert C.

Yelp
You can tell it's a fine family owned restaurant, when the mom answers the phone and brings out your hot bowl of pho, while the owner, is putting the finishing touches on paining an inner wall post. Old Port Noodle is legit. From Massaman curry to pho bo, every dish is delicious. I come for the food, but keep returning for the hospitality. The food is special, the service exceptional. Whether I come alone, or with my family, it is always a wonderful dining experience. I highly recommend this place!
google avatar

Kyle A.

Yelp
This place was great! I ordered delivery and it arrived in less than 30 minutes. Chicken Tom Kha Gai soup was sweet coconut milk with mushrooms, lots of onions and lots of chicken. The fried egg rolls had a great flavor and a sweet dipping sauce - unique outer wrap that was really crispy and they had a lot of chicken in them. Pad Thai was really flavorful and a big portion. Really great!

Yelp
Unbelievably good! Super authentic, from the staff, the atmosphere, the music, the decor! Super healthy portions, seriously, you could share anything we go tonight; and get prices too!!!!! Full bar, pretty cool too. The bar area separates the restaurant area. I love the fact that you can here the staff talk to each other in their native language, makes it so much cooler! Tonight we had the... Tom yum soup: unreal. The lemongrass broth is amazing. Sweet and spicy for sure. And really healthy sized veggies and pineapple! Pad Thai: literally one of the best I've ever had. And again, very healthy portion. Had to take some home. (Don't mind that one bit lol) Wanton noodle soup: HUGE BOWL and cooked to perfection. Fried veggie egg rolls: Unreal, and that chilli sauce? AWESOME!

Yelp
Helpful & friendly service! Went on a Sunday around noon, not busy. Lots of seating and good for groups. Interior Decor & music are consistent with their Vietnamese & Thai food business. Appetizers came out shortly after ordering Little crunchy egg rolls were delicious! The egg drop soup could use more flavor. I ended up adding more salt. Order: Pad Thai - Lunch Special (comes with soup & the appetizer of the day) I enjoyed the fried tofu, the pad thai was more on the sweeter side. The portions were HUGE. I took home the rest but it looked like I didn't even touch it! I wish I had shared it. Chicken Satay with peanut sauce - BIGGEST chicken satay I've ever had! I liked the coconut milk addition to the peanut sauce I appreciated the table clean-up as we finished our dishes. At the end of your meal you get sliced oranges! ***NO military discount***
google avatar

Raphy F.

Yelp
BLUF: Happy employees! Great service. Portions for lunch was huge! However, the food wasn't too memorable... could be a little more tastier. But feeling full and ready to continue exploring! Interior: +very well designed +music goes with the theme of the restaurant +not too busy for Sunday at lunch -few flies in the restaurant... Food: +lots of selections (a little too many) +vietnamese AND thai food +huge portions! -egg drop soup was ... (1/10) -bun (vermacelli) with pork and shrimp (6.5/10); tasted average -chicken satay (8/10)

Yelp
This restaurant is a great experience! The food is delicious and the service is great. I really like the ambiance of this restaurant, it creates a warm and classy atmosphere. I will definitely go again. come back here!

Yelp
I love all things Veranda! This particular Noodle House is in a great spot downtown on Commercial street! It is comfortable, has plenty of tables, and is in a part of the old port where a parking spot can sometimes be found (sometimes). I've gotten take out and eaten in at this location and have had pretty consistently positive results. Veranda has stand out vermicelli noodle bowls. They might be priced a little bit higher than competitors, BUT they are generous in, in a way that often leaves enough for lunch the next day.
google avatar

Stan P.

Yelp
We came here for something different while on a New England tour. This was comfort food from California and excellent food. I had the seafood pho. Broth was tasty and full of seafood. I didn't feel they were being cheap on the food. We also had vegetarian rolls and chicken combo. This was a nice surprise and if you are familiar with pho. This is a good place to visit
google avatar

Jeff P.

Yelp
Friendly staff, not busy for our lunch in the middle of a week day. Pad Thai was good, but not extraordinary. A fine place.
google avatar

Liz G.

Yelp
Love this place!!! Whenever we are in Portland this is our go to place. Have been coming here for 3 years. Love the pad Thai and spring rolls!
google avatar

Wendy H.

Yelp
It was like the only place with pho. And it was cold, so I found this place. The pho was pretty good and the vermicelli noodles were okay. Not going to lie, it wasn't that memorable. But the employees were really nice to me.
