The 6 Best Hostels in Hanoi (Updated 2025)

"Located in the heart of the Old Quarter, this place feels more upscale and hotel-like while still being social — its colorful, chic design and floor-to-ceiling windows (some rooms with small balconies) give lots of natural light. Dorm beds are comfortable with thick mattresses, privacy curtains, lockers, reading lights, and top bunks with stairs instead of ladders, and the hostel has AC. They encourage guests to hang out at the daily free happy hour (with free beer), join free walking tours, or take a very cheap weekly cooking class, and the breakfast is great and affordable (about 50,000 VND). Overall it’s a clean, spacious option within walking distance of the main sights." - Matthew Kepnes

The hostel is a one minute walk from the popular beer street of Hanoi. I loved the subtle art deco vibes that certain spaces of the hostel have. My dorm was really excellent and had the best bathroom I have ever seen in a hostel anywhere. The receptionists Shelly and Le Phuc were incredibly warm and great conversationalists. I would love to visit here again and have more conversations with them!

The hostel is a great location! My room is kind of small but very clean and i hear other rooms a bigger, i change to 6p dorm tomorrow so we will see :) Did the free walking tour with billy. Saw some nice places and the told interesting stories. I’m impressed how he finds his way through all this small streets. Would recommend this place! Breakfast was also fine :)

The hostel is in a perfect location and the rooms are clean. There’s tons of storage space in the 4 bed dorms and they provide you with a key to lock up your stuff which is great. I did the walking tour with Billy and he was amazing. I learned so much about Hanoi and he gave us great recommendations for local spots and things to do. I highly recommend staying here if you want to be located in the heart of the Old Quarter.

This is a very good hostel, it is clean and has a nice staff. They help us a lot, and planed trips. Good breakfast. We went on the walking tour with Billy and it was lovely:) 10/10 would recommend.

Great location at the heart of the Old Quarter! The staff was so welcoming and helpful. They helped us with planing our trip, which felt maybe a little bit over the top, since they only pitch you their trips, which seem a little bit on the pricier side. (We didn’t book anything through the hostel, so I can’t really say how that is…) The breakfast for only 50k is big and very good, which made us eat there all three days of our stay. The free walking tour that is offered, we honestly didn’t enjoy so much, because the guide seemed a bit unsure of herself and was speaking to quiet. In total I would definitely recommend you staying there, I just wouldn’t book anything through trips or activities trough the hostel.

Everything is clean and a very nice warm welcome. I had the shared room (10). Every room is close to bathroom/WC. You have to chance in the cabin of the shower what was very small. For this price i cant imagine there is a better place. Good location in the old centre. What i missed was the warning for a total closed city on 27 august.

This was my first time staying at a hostel and I had a fantastic experience largely thanks to the staff, convenient location, and comfortable accommodations. For context I got a female only dorm with 3 other people and a private bathroom. Airport pick up was convenient and reasonably priced; they offer tons of options for day / multi day trips (Ocean is super knowledgeable on these), and I know they value safety because specific tours are canceled due to weather; 50k breakfast was convenient (although there are plenty of options right outside); the walking tour with Billy was super orienting & informative (highly recommend for day 1); beer street is right around the corner; rooms, bathrooms, (and the public washrooms) and cleaned at least once per day; the beds were pretty big (I am 5’7), private, and the lockers were very spacious; there was tons of different types of travelers, nationalities, ages, and more; I will stay here again when I return to Hanoi. My only complaint is that because the hostel is tucked away down a side street (which means it is pretty quiet at night but) the roads otw to the hostel flooded (which i hear doesn’t happen often but still, fyi).

Excellent accommodation in Hanoi, Old Quarter. Beds were comfy and clean, and the facilities were great. Staff were really friendly and accomodating. Breakfast in the morning was good quality and filling, good price. They give you towels, and a new one each day. WiFi was strong signal. People were friendly and the location is perfect in the Old Quarter but slightly offset down a side street so quiet at night. Rooms and the lobby downstairs were air-conditioned so a good temperature. But the corridors and bathrooms weren't, so it was hot in those, but the bathroom facilities were really good so I didn't mind. I have been back a couple of times now when I return to Hanoi after trips, and I will come again if I come back to Hanoi. Thank for for a great stay.
