The 6 Best Hostels in Hanoi (Updated 2025)

"Located in the heart of the Old Quarter, this place feels more upscale and hotel-like while still being social — its colorful, chic design and floor-to-ceiling windows (some rooms with small balconies) give lots of natural light. Dorm beds are comfortable with thick mattresses, privacy curtains, lockers, reading lights, and top bunks with stairs instead of ladders, and the hostel has AC. They encourage guests to hang out at the daily free happy hour (with free beer), join free walking tours, or take a very cheap weekly cooking class, and the breakfast is great and affordable (about 50,000 VND). Overall it’s a clean, spacious option within walking distance of the main sights." - Matthew Kepnes

Undoubtedly one of the best hostels I have ever been to. It's super clean, very spacious and throughly maintained. Staff here are very friendly, polite and helpful. Shelly, the super star host at OQV is the life of the hostel. Her trivia, game night was an absolute ice breaker and a delight to participate in. She even took us to pub crawling to some of the best pubs spending the nights dancing and singing. Thank you for the beautiful memories..!! Can't forget Billy, who took us on a free street walk showing us around the Hanoi city, showing us places and explaining the history and culture. He's a funny guide, entertained us fully through the tour. Also, thanks to Phuc, he greets you with the warmest smile at the reception and he answers every silly question you ask with the same joy and enthusiasm. I had the best time in this Hostel..!! You guys were just amazing..!! Thank you for the memories..!!

We stayed here for just one night but had an amazing experience. The staff is very helpful and communicative. The location is especially great. You are very close to the lively streets of Hanoi. The hostel also offers a lot of group activities which I personally couldn't try but would love to explore next time. Ocean ensured we had everything we needed to make our stay comfortable.

They offer Free walking tour from 9AM, a guide named BILLY is a really good guide, he showed us how to walk in city, good place to eat/drink and even inside the railway (good photo spot, available just after the train passed). Plus, SHELLY organized very fun quiz&karaoke night too. I was lucky enough to meet the minimum limit number of people, so I reccomend you to ask reception staff for availability on arrival.

Great hostel. Social but didn't seem forced, the 10 bed dorm we were in was super spacious and loads of locker space, location was perfect. We ended up extending our stay by 3 days. Also loved the free walking tour with Billy!

The hostel is in a perfect location and the rooms are clean. There’s tons of storage space in the 4 bed dorms and they provide you with a key to lock up your stuff which is great. I did the walking tour with Billy and he was amazing. I learned so much about Hanoi and he gave us great recommendations for local spots and things to do. I highly recommend staying here if you want to be located in the heart of the Old Quarter.

I stayed at Old Quarter View Hanoi Hostel for two nights. The location is good since it’s close to the Old Quarter, but the rooms don’t have air conditioning. I stayed in a 10-bed mixed dorm, and the room was tiny with only two fans, so it got very hot and stuffy. The good part was that it was quiet inside the room despite the noisy bar downstairs. The bathroom and shower area were small and not separated for men and women. The staff were nice and helpful, but overall the place felt a bit chaotic for me.
