Fascinating site with excellent guided tours Old Scatness Broch is an incredible archaeological site that really comes to life with the guided tour. The guide Steve was very passionate, knowledgeable, and brought the Iron Age settlement to life with fascinating stories and insights. You get a real sense of how people lived here over 2,000 years ago. The site is well-preserved and beautifully located – a hidden gem for history lovers. Don’t miss the tour – it makes all the difference!

Amazing Iron Age village and partially exposed broch. I recommend visiting here and the nearly Jarlshof together for a broad view of the early dwellings here.

This looks like a great place to visit, but was closed when we were there. You can walk around the outside and get some nice pictures however. Shame it was not open considering it was a Saturday.

We went on a Friday as advertised as being open and went at the time a tour was meant to start but it was closed. We couldn’t book as the website doesn’t allow bookings on the day. The phone number puts you through to the museum in Lerwick who also didn’t know if it was open or not. I wouldn’t recommend just turning up even on a Friday, looks like you have to prebook.

Wonderful place to visit if you, like myself, are curious about the Shetland islands’ most interesting past. A worthwhile visit for anyone visiting the Shetlands.

The guides are super knowledgeable. This place is a treasure, and the guides are all archeologists. You learn so much!

Less extant than the broch in Lerwick, but it’s interesting as an archaeological site. The reconstructed house there is excellent (with an actual peat fire). The staff are really lovely !
