Man! I love this place. Be sure to note the website: Museum is viewable by guided tour only. As of this writing, they offer tours at 11:00, 1:00 and 3:00. There is also a lovely (free) nature walk. It's almost 2 miles if you walk the entire length. Very interesting history. Price is quite reasonable for a tour that lasted about 1.5 hours. Highly recommended.

Had a great visit to the Old Stone House Museum. Our tour guide was very friendly, informative, and funny. The history that you will encounter is amazing and displayed very well. The grounds are beautiful and peaceful. Stop by and do not miss this tour

This is the best museum I have visited in Vermont. Not only is it a fascinating trip through a little piece of history, it was delivered knowledgeably and with great humor. A uniquely Vermont experience in a uniquely Vermont setting. Don’t miss this one.

A relaxing location that is extremely well maintained. The staff working here are outstanding! We were introduced through Harvest Hosts and are glad we stopped.

What a lovely little museum hidden out in the far reaches of the Northeast Kingdom. Probably not an all day excursion but if you're up in the kingdom it's worth a visit!

A hidden gem of the Northeast Kingdom. The staff is very knowledgeable and everyone that stops gets a tour guide. There are multiple buildings on site include the old grammar school, the boardinghouse, the blacksmith's shop (where they hold regular classes), the observatory, etc. The grounds are stunning and can be rented out for weddings or even smaller events. There is a full kitchen and the terrace of the Hall House is PERFECT for any small event. Also, the observatory has the best view I have come across yet. You can see all the way past Newport and into Canada and can be rented out for weddings! A must if you are in Vermont!

We have been coming to the Northeast Kingdom for many years, and have never made it over to this place until this past weekend. What an unexpected delight! It's more than just a museum, it's an entire interpretive experience with a great collection of historic buildings and objects specific to the Northeast Kingdom. The tour guides are knowledgeable and fun, and while they do not accept tips, they do encourage donations to the museum fund.

Yelp
The Orleans County Historical Society owns the Old Stone House Museum and the historical village surrounding it in Brownington, VT. This museum celebrates the life and history of Alexander Twilight, an African American minister and an early pioneer in Orleans County. Besides the buildings and grounds, there is a large collection of items from the history of Orleans County. The museum hosts numerous events throughout the year for both adults and children. One of the best is Old Stone House Day in August. At the east end of the property is Prospect Hill with an observation tower. If you climb the tower, you will be rewarded with a sweeping view of the area all the way down to Willoughby Gap. There is a beautiful walk around a pasture with cows. This walk has a short section that goes through the woods. Memberships to the museum are available. Tours are available on a seasonal basis due to the lack of heat in the 1840 Athenian Hall (Old Stone House).
