Old Stone House of Brooklyn

A charming little museum run by a caring staff. The playground and turf areas outside provide a complementary experience to the museum inside. Worth the time to come and learn about its place in Brooklyn history.

They are supportive, helpful, driven, and truly want you to succeed. We recently hosted a large event at the Old Stone House and all throughout the team at the Old Stone House were happy to help at every turn. I highly recommend this space for all your concerts, galas, performances, barbecues, and more.

I was there to attend a meeting. It has excellent display space for art and a cozy meeting space for small groups. A great asset to the neighborhood.

Very cute and good for kids

Went here with some friends and it's beautiful. Nice fake grass area for kids to play and do some sports. Also has relatively clean bathrooms and a water fountain. It's dog friendly but must be on leash. Nice water play area for kids and some swings and things. The gardens are stunning too

Such a cute and charming museum. It is small and in the middle of a playground. The workers there are very kind.

I was absolutely amazed by the experience! The attention to detail in the reconstruction is truly impressive, and it really brings to life the history of the area. The local history displays are also fantastic, providing a fascinating glimpse into the past and helping to put the battle and its aftermath into context. It's truly incredible to be able to walk in the footsteps of the soldiers who fought and died on this ground over two centuries ago.

A nice place to stop by and learn about the Battle of Brooklyn. A super kids friendly place with 3D board games like to play.

The staff here is amazing. I had a book launch here for my new book, Little Lizzy and the Big Blue Parade. The staff was so amazing. They were very accommodating.

Had a company event here. It's a cool space if you bring... everything. We had a BBQ, but rented a tent/furniture and brought our own booze. It's not exactly a private area since it's a park, but it's private enough. It's next to the astroturf area, which is actually not dog friendly, but luckily for us, we only got yelled at toward the end of our event. Didn't actually go inside to check out the museum, but was told there wasn't much to see.

Excellent museum. 1) Come here if you are around the area. Entrance is by donation. Which is nice. (3 dollar recommended). 2) This home was built by Dutch settlers in 1699. Later, it became the site of the Battle of Brooklyn. (Fun fact: Brooklyn was a loyalist county.) 3) Must visit if you are around the area.

I volunteered in the gardens Summer of 2017 and hope to continue volunteering. This is a historical site and the mission of the Old Stone House is to teach local history and to serve the community with family programs related to arts and cultural events that bring the community together. You can check out their events on their website. They have exhibitions up inside the house. I loved volunteering in the Permaculture gardens, there are actually 10 gardens here maintained by one amazing woman gardener. I would love to work here. It is worth checking out the events and viewing the gardens in the summer. There is also a cool playground with water features for the kids. A fantastic historic place for the community to come together.

Small house... We didn't check out the second floor because there was a private event. The first floor is all about the Battle Of Brooklyn. It's basically a mini museum. You won't spend more than 30 mins there. The lady who greeted us were very friendly & polite. $3 suggested donation

I love cooking food on the brick oven with my group. You can schedule a time to cook with the Old Stone House. It's great for the community and it brings people together. It's great any time of the year and the stove will keep you warm in the winter:)

This is such a cute little historic site. It has revolutionary war significance. Kim is the docent here. She's so pleasant and knowledgeable. If you're in the area you should definitely check it out.

During the Battle of Brooklyn in the American Revolution, the American army was almost destroyed here. A gallant force of some 300 Marylanders prevented that from happening. Check this wonderful place out and while you are there, imagine trying to lift a 6lb field cannon into the top window..... This is a great place to bring a school group. I went twice in two weeks each time with 1/2 our 7th grade. Both our presenters were professional and good with kids. They have many interesting displays about the Battle of Brooklyn and interesting activities for the kids to do while planning the strategy they would have used had they been there. They also let the kids hold a replica of a rifle from that era and dress up in clothes styled after what the combatants would have worn. The house itself is a replica of the original house (built with the same stones) that was important during the Battle of Brooklyn. The museum is small and can be seen in half an hour by an individual. Great diorama of the battle that took place on the location of the museum (well a few hundred feet away) Worth a visit!

I attended a friends 50th Birthday party here yesterday. It was a perfect place for the party! No distractions from the street because its inside JJ Byrne Park. And It's easy for people to find who may be from out of town. Because it's the only house inside of a big park! Iside its very spacious with the museum which is quite minimal on the first level. I brought my 6 and 8 year old boys. they could look at the things on display as a break from the very adult party going on upstairs! Awesome place!

Cute little museum with historical artifacts and data on the Battle of Brooklyn,which was never stressed to me during history class. The house itself is actually a reproduction of the original that was leveled not during the war but during demolition. There is not much to look at inside unless you are a history buff and particularly enjoy facts on the American Revolution. Outside, the house is gorgeous, with pretty gardens and is surrounded by a park area. They stage events and parties here. It's a nice place to visit if you are here for an event but the museum is small and a visit can be quick. The upstairs had a room filled with some modern art. I came for the Second Annual Kings County Fiber Arts Festival, which coincided with the OHNY weekend, and hosted by The Old Stone House. The woman who greeted me at the door was exceptionally friendly and seemed eager to impart information. Too many museums hire drones who don't care at all about the art inside or the history, and it was refreshing to see someone who knew about the history and was enthusiastic about it.

This was the meeting place for the Brooklyn part of the NO Pants Subway Ride. It's right in the center of 5th Ave. It's surrounded by dozens of bars and restaurants. In the summer it's a great place to eat an ice cream cone and relax. Though I have not gone inside yet, it's a nice place to relax. That's always a plus. Grab some food from any of the shops nearby and eat at the park.

I came here on the Park Slope house tour. Cute small house. The first floor was a mini museum about the house and the Battle of Brooklyn. I didn't go upstairs so I can't comment of that. They have events here all the time. It is a historic house in Brooklyn. I will come back for a private party or something but nothing else.

Located in a pretty park. I totally had no idea of the important Battle of Brooklyn that occurred here. Did I sleep thru that in history class? Or was it just never mentioned? I remember other battle sites but not this one. Hmmm. However, it's small and not the original house, but built with stones from the original foundations. No one greeted us when we entered and we wandered around by ourselves. Something was going on upstairs - a bunch of people sitting around a table. It would have been nice to have a guide talk to us, but it wasn't to be. We visited as part of "Historic House" weekend( also part of Open House New York) in NYC. Worth about 30 minutes, tops

My husband and I hosted a party here for his 50th birthday and it was the perfect space. I loved not having to decorate because the event room is handsome and cozy with a wood floor and deepset windows and a fireplace (no fire) at one end. We probably had 75 guests and it was full and jolly without being uncomfortable. The staff is lovely and helpful.
