Cheval Old Town Chambers Edinburgh (Edinburgh, UK) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Cheval Old Town Chambers stands on the Royal Mile, smack in the middle of Old Town Edinburgh and directly fronting the iconic St. Giles’ Cathedral. Its history is apparent in period details throughout the public spaces, though these traditional elements are balanced by light and airy contemporary design. Apartment-style rooms include full kitchens and en-suite bathrooms, with casual open-plan layouts and a warm yet modern visual sensibility." - Tablet Hotels

Cheval Old Town Chambers | Best places to stay in Edinburgh |

"If you’ve ever fancied your own uber-chic city pad in Edinburgh, it might well look like one of these 50 serviced apartments in the medieval Old Town. The building might be centuries old, but the interiors are smart and contemporary, with exposed stonework, wooden floors, sleek modern kitchens and sofas in grey, raspberry or apple green wool. Some come with balconies or views over the rooftops. There’s also a 24-hour gym, a welcome hamper for longer stays and you can pre-order your groceries to be delivered – it’s a bit like a plush private apartment block. They’re perfect for flexible (an extra bed in an alcove) family or group stays – and you can even bring your dog for free. Chic, contemporary design and a family and pet-friendly ethos come as standard in these luxury apartments in Edinburgh’s medieval Old Town. " - Lucy Gillmore

A location that cannot be beat right on the Royal Mile/ in the heartbeat of eternally beautiful Old Town. Cheval has simply lovely accommodation of different types. We originally had an apartment that had all the amenities. The washer and sink weren’t working properly and we had some inconveniences which were addressed right away. Due to the inconveniences they were apologetic and did greatly make it up to us by offering us another room. Our three story town home right on advocates lane which we stayed on for the next two nights was just amazing. It was literally like a chamber with stone walls, an expansive living area with gourmet kitchen and we all had our own spaces. We had such a lovely stay with our two young boys. ||The breakfast at Luckenbooths is also rave worthy and the service is impeccable. ||The only tips I have are that there are an insane amount of steps to get to the hotel on one side and another side is uphill. When taking the train or any sort of walking route particularly with luggage, please ensure to take this into consideration. Also, make sure you know that the dryer in the room is extremely slow as it’s a combination machine so if you need clothing dries right away, it won’t be possible. Also, the best way to get in touch with staff is through the app loaded on your phone. ||Would highly recommend Cheval to anyone wanting a stay in Edinburgh!

**An Unforgettable Stay – Simply Outstanding!** Our stay at this hotel was nothing short of magical. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with such warmth and genuine hospitality that we immediately felt at home. The room was absolutely stunning – beautifully decorated, impeccably clean, and offering an unforgettable view of the cathedral that took our breath away. Every detail was thoughtfully curated, and the level of cleanliness was truly exceptional. The breakfast was a real highlight – delicious, fresh, and with a wide variety that left nothing to be desired. But what made our stay truly extraordinary was Paul and his amazing team. Their hospitality goes far beyond what one would expect – they anticipated our every need, made us feel truly special, and delivered a level of service we have never experienced before. Their passion, professionalism, and care are unmatched. This hotel is, without a doubt, *the place to be*. We cannot recommend it highly enough and are already looking forward to our next visit. A heartfelt thank you to Paul and the entire team – you made our stay unforgettable!

We stayed at Cheval Old Town Chambers for four nights. The location is great! Right in the heart of the Old Town. Short walk away from the Castle and many other attractions, cafes and shops. The hotel was very comfortable and clean. Nice decor. Tasty breakfast. The reception staff were very welcoming and helpful. When we arrived and got to our apartment it turned out that the sleeping arrangements were not suitable for our family. Beds were high and we have young children (8 &4 years old) who could easy roll off . We were shown two other rooms and were able to choose the one that worked. The lovely receptionist was very patient and understanding. Nothing was a problem. The apartment was comfortable and clean. Well equipped kitchen with dishwasher and washing machine. Comfortable beds and nice toiletries in the bathroom. We really enjoyed our stay and would happily return to Cheval when in Edinburgh again.

Excellent three day break. Open plan apartment was spotlessly clean, spacious and well equipped. We both slept well. It was by far the best accommodation we have stayed at on our many trips to Edinburgh. The staff were exceptional- all very helpful and courteous. The location was great! We would return, and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend.

We stayed in a Luxury Open Plan room for 8 nights. The room was well appointed. It had a full kitchen, including a washer/dryer combo, dishwasher, oven, microwave, coffee maker and toaster. There was plenty of utensils, plates and cookware. The bathroom was large and the towel warmer was great. The bed was warm and comfortable. ||The location of this hotel is perfect. You are in walking distance to everything in Edinburgh. There are plenty of shops and restaurants very close to the hotel. |The staff was very nice, they showed us around when we first got there (the buildings are old and maze-like) and answered any questions we had. We downloaded the app and were able to chat with the hotel staff. We also used the app to learn how to operate the appliances :) . ||For the 2 of us, the room we had seemed small. There was really no where to put our luggage or to store anything. We just put our luggage on the window ledge. But if you had a bag bigger than a carry-on, I think you'd be in trouble. If you put it on the floor, you couldn't get to the bed. If we stayed there again, I'd get a 1 bedroom I think. ||We were in a room that was very close to the courtyard and the set of stairs outside (kind of like an alleyway) . We heard folks going up and down well into the night. We are typically in bed pretty early, so it bothered us, but it might not bother other folks who stay up later. ||The hotel also had a nice gym. It had weights and cardio equipment. It had enough space to get a good workout in, as long as everyone was polite and didn't hog the equipment. We had a good experience, everyone was considerate. ||I did report, on the hotel checkout survey, a couple of minor issues with the finishes in the room. Only cosmetic things that I thought should be corrected to prevent real complaints in the future. The drain caps in the bathroom sink and shower kept coming off, and the faucet in the kitchen wasn't attached to the counter, it kept falling over. Those things didn't hurt our stay at all, but for a quality hotel, I thought they should know and they were quick to respond and said they would fix them.||Overall, a great stay and we WOULD stay there again, just in a bigger room.

I stayed at Cheval Old Town Chambers for two nights in a one bedroom apartment, joining a friend who had the main bed while I used the pull out sofa bed. The apartment itself was beautifully designed, spacious layout, tasteful décor, and lots of thoughtful touches. The staff were genuinely kind, attentive, and even witty, which added warmth to the experience. That said, the pull-out sofa bed was unfortunately not comfortable but quite squeaky and lumpy. While I understand sofa beds are rarely as restful as a standard mattress, I did expect a bit more considering the premium price. Additionally, the sliding bathroom door was tricky, it wouldn’t stay fully closed without some finesse, which felt awkward when using the space. Overall, it’s a lovely hotel with fantastic service and style. But based on this particular setup, I would probably choose a different room configuration next time or consider other options for the same price range.

The location and decorations were amazing! The only downside was the lack of air conditioning, meaning you needed to leave the windows open if the room got warm. It's a historic building, so I understand that a central AC system would be difficult to install, but it was a little noisy from the bar next door.

Our favorite hotel in Edinburgh. This is our third stay here and we love it, especially the kitchen and clothes washer/dryer. The layout takes a bit of getting used to, but the staff is great and it’s perfectly situated at the top of the Royal Mile yet quiet and peaceful.
