I know that Key West has a 'shabby chic' vibe, and expect that fact whenever I visit. However, the Old Town Manor gave me much more shabby than chic. Normally, I stay at Alexander's, and perhaps have become spoiled by the level of attention to interior design, overall cleanliness, and setting there. Here's the bottom line:
- You're close to Duval. Very close! Convenient and NOISY!
- There is no 'cocktail hour' at the property, so you never meet anyone at the inn with you. In the past, I've found this to be a nice way to make new friends and get an evening started.
- Breakfast was ok. Just ok. Mainly cakes, breads, and some fruit.
- Our room (The Lime Tree) needs a real refresh. No desk. No chair. Rugs in the bathroom were grungy. The lime tree in the bathroom sounds better than it is, as it makes navigating the toilet a challenge and the bathroom feel a bit dirty. Plus, why are there two sinks so close together leaving no room on the vanity? The space isn't big enough for two people to work simultaneously. The private porch backs up to the parking lot of Wendy's on Duval, and is a hang out for drunks. Charming.
Yes, we should have known that being so close to Duval would be a problem. However, the website pics and reviews led us to believe we had found a perfect place. We'll keep looking, and were tempted to move. However, we weren't there for the accommodations, but rather to be with friends in Key West. We stuck it out. Next time, we'll know better.
