Whether you're there for a silent film or a 'talkie', you'll get to enjoy watching Bill Field perform pipe organ mastery against a backdrop of blacklight-illuminated musical innards doing their thing. "It’s like traveling back in time to a Golden Age. Every weekend since 1968, the Old Town Music Hall in El Segundo, California — just a few miles south of where that gold was made — has been showing silent and classic movies with live musical accompaniment, played on the largest Wurlitzer console ever built. Since the beginning, each show at the Music Hall has started with owner and musician Bill Field sharing a short history of the theater and its celebrated organ, the “Mighty Wurlitzer.” The 2,600-pipe instrument was scavenged from another nearby theater that was closing. The historic organ needed repairs and rebuilding, so Field and his partner found some original Wurlitzer employees who taught them everything they needed to know about repairing such a historic piece, and they set it up in their theater to have a place to play it. Even today, the organ is on stage so you can watch its cacophony of moving parts, the source of both music and sound effects, while Field pumps out tunes like “When the Red Red Robin Comes Bob Bob Bobbin’ Along” and “Under the Old Apple Tree” (and yes, everybody sings — or at least tries to). There is then a short film or cartoon, an intermission, and finally the main attraction. And if the movie happens to be silent, Bill provides the entire soundtrack. The Old Town Music Hall has perennial favorites — a Christmas show, the Laurel and Hardy Film Fest, and October horror classics like Frankenstein and Nosferatu. They also keep up a busy concert schedule when the screen is resting. But the key to the whole endeavor seems to be longevity and the commitment of the theater’s community. They’ve been there for almost 50 years, but the Wurlitzer still has a long way to go." - ATLAS_OBSCURA

A lovely little throwback to a bygone era! Love there's still revival movie houses, especially one with a wurlitzer!

We happened to stumble upon this place after dinner and we are so happy we did. We met Sterling who was so sweet and told us about the theatre's history and the upcoming shows. We will be back!!

What an absolutely gorgeous piece of history, sitting in the middle of Main Street. We stumbled across this 1921 gem, and decided to catch a Halloween film. Live organ music. A sing along. Cartoon. Movie. Sitting in the center of a historical building- for $12! How can anyone resist an amazing deal? A special shout out to Stirling for giving us a full break down of the history of the building. Your passion for what you do, and your admiration of that building, absolutely shows.

Wonderful place !! A delight for your hearing, and heart. If you've never heard a Wurlitzer Theatre Organ, you have to hear this one. The most wonderful sound!! This is the best organ I have ever heard!! No two organs sound alike, this one is unbelievable !!

Google
If you appreciate creativity in motion pictures and want to see good decent clean fun movies with a spectacular sound from a organ key broad that has lots of unbelievable different sounds, and actually get the movie goer's into singing " if you want to sing" but for two hours - you are in a fun house movie theatre.

Google
Amazing venue with great music and movies. Nothing else like it in LA or the country in my opinion. Such a gem. Run by volunteers that work hard in their free time to share this amazing place with visitors.

Google
This place is such a gem. Small theatre located on Richmond Street in El Segundo. Looking for something fun and unique to do? I would check this theatre out they play 2 movies during the weekend. 2:30 and 7:00 pm Saturday and Sunday you can get tickets online. Some talkies and some silent films accompanied by the Wurlitzer. Definitely something you should hear live.

Looking for something unique and family friendly? Great venue with something for everyone. They show silent cartoons (accompanied by their famous Wurlitzer organ) among lots of other cinema options. Enjoy!

Yelp
What a hidden gem near downtown El Segundo. If you love vintage theaters, films, and music, this is a dream come true. I loved all the architectural details at the theater. During intermission, I wandered around looking at these bygone marvels, including the tiny ticket booth, the art deco paintings on the walls, and framed photos of old-time celebrities. So charming, and a nice escape to a seemingly simpler time. I was able to purchase a ticket to a sold out show, thanks to the kind lady who answered the phone. When I arrived at the theater, she bumped me up to a better seat! The theater is operated by volunteers who clearly love their work and are dedicated to preserving its legacy. If you are looking for something fun and nostalgic to do in LA, give 'em a visit. With Thanksgiving and Christmas approaching, they are offering holiday movies and singalongs. The vintage organ in the theater is definitely a showstopper and I love how it is decorated in neon colors!

Yelp
One of the most unique experiences you will have in Los Angeles. They have one of the last Wurlitzer pipe organs in the USA, right here, in a quaint, wonderfully restored, silent movie theater. The place is almost completely operated by volunteers and they just do a fantastic job featuring movie and history experts, showcasing different types of movies from different eras throughout the year and they couldn't be more friendly to first timers. An amazing date night idea and if you come during October, they feature all the classic creature features like Dracula, Frankenstein, The Mummy and we even saw the cult classic Cat People this season (2024). Tickets are very reasonably priced.

Yelp
My one wish is that I could live closer to this place. I attend revival screening somewhat often, and love to check out new venues. I stumbled upon this one researching another theater and took a chance on it. I just fell in love with this little theater, and I've gone again since then. The itself building is neat and the auditorium is lavish. The staff are all friendly and charming. While not the most advanced theater, having a pretty basic audio/visual setup, the whole experience makes it worth it. You always have a host introduction, and sometimes they'll run off a cartoon or short. The organ demonstration is neat, and I can't think of a better place to see a silent film at, as there aren't many theater organs left. High recommendation.

Megan A.

Yelp
I can't say enough good things about this place. What a gem hidden amongst the restaurants and shops of El Segundo. I first came here a few years back, and never really thought about writing a review. This cute, little theatre is over 100 years old, and full of charm, history, and amazing stories. Watching a movie here transports you back in time to the joy and excitement of the theater. One of the things that make this place so special is, the theater has an original Wurlitzer pipe organ! As mentioned, the theater is old and historic, and is now a Non-Profit 501(c)(3), which means they rely heavily on donations and volunteers to stay open. Old Town Music Hall is open weekends only, showing old motion pictures, cartoons, and silent films. The Mighty Wurlitzer plays dramatically to accompany those silent films, bringing them to life. They do special holiday showings of your favorites for Halloween and Christmas. This place is for all ages and truly special. The latest show I saw was Airplane, and was such a blast! For a classic good time, come to the movies!

Norbert K.

Yelp
Friends suggested we come here over a decade ago, and we've never been disappointed on any of our visits. The venue is small, but the entertainment factor is outstanding. Come and enjoy an historic throwback to the 1920s -- silent movies accompanied by the Mighty Wurlitzer Theatre Pipe Organ. I love pipe organs, and this one is a rare treat. My understanding is that it was/is the largest theatre pipe organ ever installed west of the Mississippi. In addition to accompanying silent movies, there are also organ concerts on the Mighty Wurlizer. The building itself is of historic interest. It dates from 1921 when it opened as the El Segundo State Theater.

Mia K.

Yelp
First discovered this hidden treasure during the El Segundo Art Walk. The volunteers are so passionate and engaging. So glad they restored this music hall. It's worth it just to walk inside and see the elaborate 1920's era interior (for me, similar to the Pantages Theater). What better movie to first see here than "The Shining". Decked out for Halloween, even with moving things in the women's bathroom. Snack stand at the entrance, I think with soda in glass bottles. There's a pre-show with their famous organ, some sing alongs and a vintage cartoon. Then an intermission before the feature film. Had a great time here. The screen is about 75 percent of the organ pipe wall. They don't move the organ during the film. Just wished I had gotten up for intermission since I sat for over 3 hours straight and my legs needed a good stretching. I think paying $13 online is worthwhile for the whole experience for self-selected seats and because it's a non-profit. Would love to come back! Huge parking lot makes it a guarantee.

Nut- T.

Yelp
Only problem is the seating a bit cramped, good overall atmosphere... small snack bar upon entering.... Friendly staff are all volunteers ...theatre is over 100 yrs old....fun lil area to hangout at.

Gwen L.

Yelp
Cute little theatre. Saw Grease and bought me back. I only saw the tv commercial version. I hope they show it again. Signed up for a couple of other shows. Loved the organ and announcer giving some movie history. Popcorn can pass. I liked the glass bottles and intermission, so I didn't have to hold it throughout the movie. No cup holders.

Sandy J.

Yelp
Love this small theatre. They have one of the most interesting organs that plains many instruments. We went to see a silent film and the organist played along the whole movie. It was great. Also their popcorn was a must have!

Michael H.

Yelp
Amazing experience that puts you back in the early last century. Fun movies. My daughter had fun dressing up vintage to go to the show. Nice Old fashioned decorations and first class service. Make sure to go to showing where the MIGHTY WURLITZER pipe organ is played. Watching it is mesmerizing.

Richard L.

Yelp
What can you say about this place is very well restored, and an excellent venue. It's a little bit off the beaten path in El Segundo and I highly recommend coming to check it out when they're open.

Jonah O.

Yelp
If you love classic films, this is the only way to see one. It's set in an intimate theater, remodeled to the glory days in the 1920s. There's an actual Wolitzer pipe organ that they play live with silent films when they show them. It's like stepping back in time for several hours. Beautiful chandeliers, beautiful ornate ceiling, it is a must for any movie fan!

Yelp
AN ABSOLUTELY MUST DO! 5 STARS. ONE OF THE COOLEST THINGS YOU'LL EVER DO FOR HALLOWEEN IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA! This is One of the Best Bargains in LA! $12 for a Night of Entertainment & Free Parking! This is Great for all Ages Kids thru Adults. It's Time to jump into The TimeMobile & scour the Earth & take you to places from a different time that you won't believe still exist! We have set the dial to 1921 in the town of El Segundo CA. We've landed at The Old Town Music Hall. You will get to experience what a movie from the 1930's actually feels like. It's a completely different movie experience than the movies that we have today. This theater is only open on the weekends with both matinee & evening performances. 2022 marks the 54th Anniversary of this institution as an Entertainment venue starting back in 1968. Yet most people have never even heard of this place before nor visited here. It is one of America's Hidden Secret Gems. It is close to LAX airport. For Halloween they have a Spooktacular Treat for everyone. The whole place is decorated with ghoulish fiends from the entrance to the stage. The organist Randy Woltz is dressed up like Count Dracula with a long black satin Cape with blood red lining on the inside. Randy plays the Mighty Wurlitzer Theater Pipe Organ. He explains a little bit about the history of the theater & tonight's presentation. Frankenstein the 1931 Universal Studios Masterpiece was the featured film. Did you know that when Frankenstein was first shown people fainted & had to be carried away in ambulances? Then Randy sits down & plays a few tunes on the Mighty Wurlitzer Theater Pipe Organ with more than 2500 pipes. Fantastic! Then they have a Sing Along of several songs with the audience. There's SHINE ON HARVEST MOON, MY BONNIE LIES OVER THE OCEAN, MAIRZY DOATS & TAKE ME OUT TO THE BALL GAME. If you don't know these songs go on YouTube & practice them before you get here. Don't worry the words are displayed on the screen to help you out & there's no Quiz! LOL! Then they presented a Classic Warner Brothers Merry Melodies Halloween Cartoon. The one they featured was Hair Raising Hare with Bugs Bunny. Then there's a short intermission. You can check out the whole place & see all the decorations. They had a signed picture of Boris Karloff & his daughter on the stage next to the Frankenstein Statue. You can visit the snack bar that is on the front entrance. It's called the W.C. Fields Cafe & has reasonable priced popcorn & sodas in glass bottles & candy. $5 for a Sparkling Water in a bottle & a Box of Popcorn. What a Deal! Frankenstein is such a Classic film & entertaining to watch anytime but especially at Halloween.! It's So Cool you get to experience how the movie was originally broadcast & what seeing a movie was like back in the 1930's. What a Great Show! You can also park right next door. Chevron lets you park there on the weekends for FREE! The whole month of October is Horror Movies Month perfect for Halloween. November is a tribute to the great Fred Aistsire. December showcases Christmas Movies. So they have things going on here all the time year round. Check out the calendar for Events. Also take one of their Free Booklets. This is a non profit & you can make a donation too. They also have this place available for rentals also. I'm so happy places like this exist so you can experience history rather than just reading about it in some book. The History Bill Field & Bill Koffnan were musicians & purchased a 1925 Wurlitzer Pipe Organ from the Fox West Coast Theater in Long Beach. It was moved to El Segundo & installed @ The former State Theater. It was a former silent movie theater in 1921. The 2 Bills opened the current theater in October 1968 & the Old Time Movie Experience continues to this very day. The current prices are $12 General Admission for Talking Movies.. The organist plays several songs. $20 for Silent Movies where the organist plays continuously throughout the movie. $25 for Concerts. Book your tickets online @ www.OldTownMusicHall.org Old Town Music Hall is So Cool! You got to come here at least once in your life. I Love it Here! It used to be, you had to have Mega Bucks & be really Rich to have the Good Life, not anymore. The Game has changed. You've been Upgraded. Now You Can Live Like a King on a Limited Budget!

Alexandra K.

Yelp
My fiancé and I have become frequent patrons over the last year. We love everything about our experiences here! The volunteers are so kind and helpful (shoutout to Stirling!), and Randy (the resident organist) is an absolute delight. As local history fans and classic film enthusiasts, we far prefer attending screenings here rather than those organized by Cinespia. Here, it is less crowded, the tickets are a better value for your buck, your seat is guaranteed, and you get to experience the sound of a restored silent film organ. What more could you ask for?

Teresa A.

Yelp
I recently went to the Old Town Music Hall to see Dracula (1931). It was an enjoyable visit. I really liked the pre-screening Halloween themed performance on the organ. The lobby and theater looked great decked out in Halloween decor and props.

Jesse P.

Yelp
Great place to watch a classic film! Plan ahead and see your classic favs. Saw Willy Wonka and fell in love with theatre.

Alona L.

Yelp
I had no idea this place exists but it was such a treat! We watched a silent movie accompanied by the sound of 100-year old organ and I was just immersed into the music. This place is magical and I can't wait to go check out a concert here in the coming weeks.

Karen F.

Yelp
Love , love, love this theatre! All the staff are sweet, caring and adorable. The ones I dealt with were all volunteers. I saw "Trouble in Paradise " on a Sunday afternoon. We were able to hear the 2,000 pipe Wurlitzer Pipe Organ; hear a brief history of the theater; do a sing along; discuss the movie with an expert then watch this awesome 1930's era movie, and relax in a vintage theater in downtown El Segundo. We'd walked to an afternoon brunch right down the street and P.S. the parking was plentiful and didn't cost a dime. Such a lovely afternoon! Thank you

David S.

Yelp
Plenty of parking in the lot next to the theater. Volunteers were extremely polite, welcoming, and dedicated. Concession had popcorn, candy, and beverages. Wish the seats were more comfortable. Didn't know what to expect, but afterwards, safe to say our family had a memorable experience.

Joe G.

Yelp
Today we went to Old Town Music Hall - David Marsh was the musician and did a fantastic job- the atmosphere was so amazing as well as the people on staff- it was so fascinating to watch a silent film starring Buster Keaton in "Cops" with the organ music performed by David Marsh- I would highly recommend visiting this amazing piece of American history

Paula B.

Yelp
This is the cutest and best kept hidden gem in El Segundo. I will definatley be back. I visited this hidden gem on a recent Yelp Elite Event as part of the Tour of El Segundo. I really loved the historical significance of this place; Its so old but so cool because there is silent movies and some very cool movies that they play. I look forward to watching Snow White as well as some other movies they are going to play in April and you really can't beat the price of 12.00 for a movie and 5.00 for popcorn and a drink. Oh wait, and free parking too.

Gary I.

Yelp
"Two musicans, Bill Coffman & Bill Field, bought a 1925 Mighty Wurlitzer Theatre Pipe Organ that was at the Fox West Coast Theatre in Long Beach, CA in the 1960's, and installed it at the former El Segundo State Theatre that opened in 1921 as a silent theatre. The two Bills opened Old Town Music Hall in 1968." OTMH has been running for 50 years although Bill Coffman is no longer here, but Bill Field still is a trooper and carries on this great El Segundo tradition. The OTMH is small compared to the old grand dame theatres along Broadway In DTLA, but it makes up for it w/ its intimate size & warm home spun feel. The small lobby is full of framed photographs of old movie stars, elegant tin ceiling. Don't forget to get Mae's Coconut Macaroons which seem "homemade". A young man was tinkling piano keys on an upright to keep us entertained in the lobby waiting for the theatre doors to open. Once in, there is a 9 foot, 92 key Bösendorfer concert grand piano which was handmade in Vienna specifically for OTMH as well as the Wurlitzer. The pipes and associated musical instruments such as drums, tambourine, etc. are visible, and many are accented w/ paint that eerily glows under UV light in the dark while the Wurlitzer is playing. The organ console has 4 keyboards, 260 switches & other controls & pedals which may make it harder to operate precisely than piloting a 747. Before showing the main movie, Bill Field plays a piece or two on Wurlitzer, a movie short, then the often silent movie or vintage "talkies". For the silent movies, Bill F. accompanies playing the Wurlitzer just like back in the 1920's for a bit of period piece verité. OTMH first introduced me to the comedic genius of Harold Lloyd. That which I am most grateful. Mr. Field is now getting on in years so it would behoove the curious to go to OTMH soon before he retires. Besides the movies, there are live music piano concerts, banjo bands, ragtime orchestras, organists, dixie jazz bands, singers mostly on Sundays. PS Cash or check only. (For you millennials, don't bitch about not carrying 20 bucks in cash which isn't alot in 2018 dollars.) Senior 62+ $2 discount.

Priscilla V.

Yelp
This little theater is so well decorated and up kept! Everything looked very clean, despite it being an old building. The staff were very friendly and the seats are easy to locate. The organist and Halloween display really set this theater apart from others. The live show was very nice and I would love to come back during another holiday to see more of their decorations. I came to watch The Invisible Man and the film quality was great!

Erik D.

Yelp
This place is a real treasure. The theater is exquisite, the films are wonderful, and the staff is top of the line. Aside from showing films, the venue also hosts unique programs such as lectures and performances. I'm so grateful that cultural landmarks like this are still standing and bringing happiness to people.

Maruko X.

Yelp
The establishment was originally built in 1921, served for different purposes, such as theatre and church, and now ended up as the music hall, facilities and instruments are almost 100 years old, tiny and chic place, very 20s and 30s styles, where you could feel the history and smell the old times.

Marissa S.

Yelp
An adorable little music hall that has all the character one would wish for and more. The place is welcoming, and the staff is friendly. My husband and I went this past weekend and loved everything, especially the pianist who opened the show, the organist, and comfy reclining chairs. It's just a magical place with so much to offer. I am a huge fan of black and white movies so to add the pianist and organist before the movie made the whole night a memorable one for us. I cannot wait to visit this music hall again. I can only imagine how cool it would be to check out a Halloween movie at this place.

Heather N.

Yelp
I came here to see a Doris Day movie with my Red Hat Society group. It's a nice little museum with a lot of history. The organ is built into the theater which is kind of neat. The building is absolutely beautiful. They show movies on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Tickets are $10 and it's cash only. They also sell snacks. The movies are classics and they will show are short film or serial before the movie starts. There is also plenty of free parking in the parklot on the side of the building.

Ashley K.

Yelp
Drove by this place a couple years ago and have always wanted to come back in for a show, I finally got to yesterday and was so happy I did. The showing we saw was for Sunset Blvd (excellent 1950's flick). There are two showtimes on Saturdays, 2:30 and 8:15 and they recommend getting there 30 minutes early to purchase tickets (cash or check only). For the matinee showing we went to, arriving at 2:00 was unnecessary as we were some of the first to arrive and the theater didn't start filling up until right before the show started at 2:30. There's a concession stand with canned drinks, waters, candy and delicious homemade macaroons (there's a short intermission included in the show before the movie if you need some refreshment). The show began with a little history of the theater and the wind pipe organ, just wait for it because once the curtain opens you will be even more impressed. The guy who gave the history also performed several songs, all super enjoyable and then we watched a Flash Gordon short aka commercial just like back in the day before the movie began. Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for seniors. I will absolutely return. They have special events like a Ragtime festival here too. Truly a unique experience I absolutely recommend.

Vivian Y.

Yelp
I came here to support my friend, Vincent Johnson whom was one of the performers that day. It was the 40th ragtime music festival. Ragtime is such an underappreciated type of music which beautifully combines different styles into one. Small theatre to seat maybe a max of 50 people. Apparently this theatre holds black and white showings of all the classics which includes the original Frankinstein, and Phantom of the Opera. My 3 other friends and I were a good 50+ years younger than everyone else in the audience... everyone was OLD! Reminiscing the days of ragtime music. It made me appreciate music, and thought about how fun it must have been to dance to ragtime. I'll be completely honest...I fell asleep to some parts of the performance but it was only because it was dark, quiet, and had music playing.....

Kyle O.

Yelp
This place is incredible! The real deal! Living History! If you are like me and love cinema, then do yourself a favor and check this place out. This gorgeous movie theater, which features a beautiful state of the art organ, features an experience just like what movie-goers experienced near the turn of the century. The staff couldn't be friendlier, the popcorn couldn't be more delicious, and the parking (across the street) is free! It truly does not get any better than this. Be sure to follow their facebook page to be in the know on events happening all year long. Oh, and bring your cash! I'd even bring a few extra bucks to tip because this is one of the last remaining tributes to 'classic cinema' that LA has to offer! A true diamond in the rough! Check it out for yourself!

N J.

Yelp
This place doesn't need another five star review, but I can't help myself - it's so great! We just went to watch Chaplin's Modern Times last Sunday, and the experience was all I hoped it'd be. The pre-show ragtime piano player outside put us in the mood (how can you not feel happy hearing Scott Joplin's "The Entertainer?") but didn't prepare us for how beautiful this theater is. Cherub lamps, Mucha prints, sculptures of "his Master's voice" - it's awesome. And then there's the stage with the amazing organ and the two incredible decorative pianos. For anyone thinking an organ performance sounds boring, the management's spiced it up by giving it the Blue Man Group treatment - it happens in the dark and the house-sized collection of organ parts (which turn the player into a one-man-band) are all outlined in day-glo paint. If you're a history buff or just love the first part of the 20th century, you have to plan a visit. From the velvet curtains and crystal chandeliers to the funny little stuffed raccoon toy hanging from the weight on the bathroom door, it's like stepping into a time machine.

Vaughn W.

Yelp
I first attended the famous traditional Music Hall's Halloween showing of Lon Chaney's Night At The Opera probably forty years ago before I moved to El Segundo and have never forgotten it. It was the first of many visits. Today we saw a matinee showing of Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, preceded by a medley of music from said movie on the famous Wurlitzer theatre organ, witty comments from the organist, a sing along, and a cartoon preceding the intermission and feature film. About halfway through the film I became aware of muscle pain in my face. I had been smiling without ceasing since the beginning of the medley. The audience must have been at least10% under twelve years of age all the way up to senior citizens and every age in between. The theater has been wonderfully maintained and restored to a charming early 20th century decor. We've also heard some wonderful concerts there. Seriously, give yourself a treat. Look them up, pick a performance, and thoroughly enjoy yourself. And, generous adjacent parking.

John S.

Yelp
The 2016 YELP 500, Review #088: Movie $10 (April 2016). Straight up old time-y in every aspect. If the patrons dressed in period pieces this would be complete. From the ceiling to the carpet runner this place is amazing. NOTE: Gaining entry is a cash only experience. There is an A.T.M. across the street in the family style bar ($2 withdrawal fee). My photos show the prices as of Friday, April 8, 2016.

Adrian V.

Yelp
About to experience my first throwback movie at The Old City Music Hall in El Segundo. I have heard about if but never gone to check it out it so here we go. So far it is amazing!

Kirsten M.

Yelp
The *perfect* date spot! I can't believe how lucky I was to have found this gem of a place (via Yelp, by the way!), and I can't wait to go back for the holidays. Seriously - check this place out. You won't be disappointed. We went to see the 1925 silent version of "Phantom of the Opera" - with title cards, organ music, and everything! The whole place was not only decked out for Halloween, but also with period-appropriate decor that made you feel like you were going to a show way back when. We were already grinning ear to ear before the show even started! What we didn't know was that we wouldn't just be seeing the movie - oh no! They structure each show to be "like they used to be" - with a musical short beforehand, a few organ pieces to set the mood (complete with an incredible Wurlitzer sight to behold behind the curtains!), and even a sing-a-long with the audience! The nostalgic attention to detail was incredibly special and unlike anything I've ever experienced. I've honestly bookmarked the website with their schedule to check periodically - and I can only imagine how wonderful the holiday season must be there too! Totally recommend - an easy 5 stars, no question. Just go already! :)

Yelp
1st weekend of the ROOKIE!! Bill still played for the movie, but the beginning to the start of the first step if handing the batton over was finally initiated before our eyes and ears tonight, April 28, 2018. Well Done, OTMH!!

Yelp
This is the kind of place that makes Los Angeles a constant delight to me. It's so magical and wonderful - I just feel bad that I'd never been before. I wish I had a movie to screen there because it is the most charming, oddball theater I've been too. Here is a link to their website: http://oldtownmusichall.wordpress.com/ The Wurlitzer organ sounds spectacular, especially with all it's inner workings painted in black-light paint! The short films and the cute old ads are so great. It's a little slice of what going to the movies used to be like (before my time). There is what is possibly the biggest collection of the dog from "His Master's Voice." The best part is that there is a big statue of the dog, and then a little one underneath it so you can have a giggle because it does look like a winkle. People like me who bemoan the passing of Kelbo's, The Trails and other old timie gems that are now gone, please come down and support this great little place. The block it's on has some really cute stuff as well.

Yelp
A different movie is played each weekend. Make sure to check the schedule. Wurlitzer organ is worth seeing! There are also a few food items there- like tasty apple cider! Seats on the left and right recline back. However seats in the middle do not.

Yelp
Recently, I started taking myself out of this small box I'm in. If you asked me a year ago, I would have not been interested in visiting Old Town Music Hall because well, I wasn't a fan of old, black and white movies. I know- call me narrow-minded, call me a snob, call me parochial..I know.. However, one day, I just knew there was a bigger world out there that I wanted to learn about. I wanted to learn things that I didn't know from the past, the present, the future. I am starting to try things out that I never would have tried before. After all, you can't say you lived if you haven't. We visited Redondo Beach this past weekend and I wanted to spend some time in a place that was chill, but historic and fun. I found this place on yelp - thanks fellow yelpers and I saw that they were playing Frankenstein. I've never watched Frankenstein (read above). All I knew or thought I knew about Frankstein is that Frankenstein was a monster that a Dr. made (See- that's my narrowmindness). When we got there, there was plenty of parking in the lot to the right of the building. Tickets go on sale half an hour before the movie starts for $10/person. You can buy drinks and snacks there. The theatre was decked out with Halloween decorations and it was small, but very vintage and cute. Seats were a little uncomfortable, but I didn't mind so much. They played the organ(s) which was pretty cool - and they had a light show. You have to go to experience it yourself. The sing along was fun, but I didn't even know half the songs they were playing. I learned tons watching the movie! Frankenstein is the creator of the monster (Dr) and the monster is well, just the monster (no name). It was kind of a sad movie. It made me question if the monster was really bad - even though it did kill. It was just really interesting. On our way back to the hotel, my bf and I were discussing the movie and he tells me he read the book and continues to educate me on the story of the monster - Frankenstein never acknowledges the monster as a being, people were disgusted and rejected the monster for his appearance, and it was the way people treated him that made him evil. If you are in the area and not close-minded for old black and white movies like I used to be, you should try it out!

Yelp
This place is very unique and a great spot to check out if you're in the area and looking for something different to do. It's been used for many purposes over the years, and now is used for silent films. There is a really cool old-fashioned organ there with actual instruments that are played through the organ. The decor is eclectic and fun. A great place to go with friends, family, or on a date.

Yelp
Are you kidding me? 10 bucks and I get to watch the amazing Wurlitzer perform a 20 minute show, an old serial AND the movie I originally paid to watch? AND the snacks are affordable? YES!!!!! Great amazing value for your money! You will not be sorry. Check this place out, please! A great hidden gem in adorable Old Town El Segundo! We went to watch Singin' in the Rain and before the movie the Wurlitzer played many Singin' in the Rain songs. It was amazing. Then we watched a Flash Gordon Serial, which was hilarious. After that we finally watched Singin' in the Rain, which is one of my all time favorite movies. Got there for the 8pm show and didn't get out until 11pm! There's a lot of free parking in the lots right next to the hall.

Yelp
Good old fashioned fun with a happy, fun twist. Enjoy dinner in El Segundo and the entertainment here. This place is not about the money but the experience. A must-do for everyone with a good attitude.

Yelp
Super cool local theater tucked away off the Main Street in El Segundo. You pay cash at the tiny retro ticket booth and buy popcorn or candy bars and soda from a small "broom closet" they call the concession stand. The interior is much more elaborate than the humble exterior and sports just over 180 old theater seats, which, are quite the opposite of the plush recliner seats modern theaters offer today. They were a little hard for me to stay comfortable in but I took it as part of the charm. The pipe organ experience is worth the visit alone and the guy playing it was the guy selling tickets out front. I've seen several organs in other theaters but none of them were displayed as awe inspiring as this one is.

Yelp
Loved it! The place is such a gem. They take such great care of the decor. It's a really fun, different thing to do. The neon outlines are so cool & it's fun to watch the silent movie with the organ playing right in time. You can sit there and image what life was like so long ago. Bring cash, because that's all they accept. They have soda & popcorn for sale. Enjoy!

Yelp
100th Review! My first impression was, "Now this is what I call an 'old town' theater hidden gem. You won't find anything as unique as this place anywhere else!" Everything about this place is definitely old town, vintage, and kept hidden only because people seem to bypass it without discovering all this place has to offer. It has so much personality, you will see that the uniqueness of this place is resembles the unique people who come to visit, and the man who has run this place for years! It feels like a theater that's been stuck on its foundation of its roots while everything around it kept moving and changing after all these years. It's a theater that stands still in time. Everything from the venue, to the inexpensive tickets, snacks, popcorn, tea, and candy sales are all how it was done back in the day. The decor is special too, and the details of this place truly make it memorable in character. They feature all the old films and musicals, and a great variety of them too. Before every featured film though, is a venture into classic organ-playing and a short silent comic film. The show is run by Bill, the owner and man in charge of this entire production. Let's just say I've never quite seen anything like this! The organ itself is a historical vintage piece. Now I don't know how distinctly I might stand out in an audience group mostly of old couples who are on a "date," but I love this place like it's a secret clubhouse. It's so adorable how they still dress up and come to watch the movies together. The lasting impression? "Unique, special, and really the hidden gem of old theaters. Support this place, go and enjoy an old classic film, and keep it running! Among all the crazy digitals, modern venues, and high tech entertainment sources, I can always enjoy and appreciate some of the simple originals."
