10 Best Things to Do in Prague

"Back in the 1970s, every British student worth their salt would have a poster by Czech graphic artist Alfons Mucha on their wall, swirling romantic illustrations that encapsulated the Art Nouveau period. Very bohemian, you might say. Head to the Kunsthalle Praha, which opened in 2022 in a former electric station in the centre of Prague, and it’s worth visiting for its café terrace alone, which has brilliant views over Petrin Hill and Prague Castle. Kunsthalle isn’t the only modern-art cat in town: Trafo Gallery is set in a former slaughterhouse, while Kampa Museum, founded in 2003 by Meda Mladeks, occupies a series of 14th-century mills on the River Vltava and contains a wonderful collection of mainly Czech artists, including abstract pioneer Frantisek Kupka." - Rick Jordan

My Suggested 4 Day Prague Itinerary for 2025

"Beneath the Old Town Hall you can explore the catacombs — the original lower levels of medieval houses — now presented as an exhibit showcasing medieval life (enter through the tourism office)." - Matthew Kepnes

One of the oldest parts of the city is the heart of medieval Prague. The most significant square of historical Prague, founded in the 12th century, has witnessed many historical events. In addition to the Old Town Hall and the Church of Our Lady before Týn, the square is dominated by the Baroque Church of St. Nicholas, the Rococo Kinsky Palace, the Gothic House at the Stone Bell and the Jan Hus Monument. On the pavement of the square there are memorial stones commemorating the execution of 27 Czech lords in 1621 and the Prague Meridian. Perhaps the most beautiful square in the whole city. Gothic houses and churches; cobblestone streets and squares; stone towers create an amazing historical atmosphere. And all kinds of bars, restaurants, dance clubs, shops of international brands, galleries and hotels give energy to the old city, presenting its modern face.

If you're in Prague, you have to visit the Old Town Square. I went on a Saturday in the summer. There are people from all over the world there. It's filled with beautiful architecture and amazing sights. It gets busy, even fairly early in the morning; that just adds to its charm. Enjoy. Highly recommended!

We visited the Old Town Square during the Christmas market, and it was an absolutely magical experience. The entire square was beautifully decorated with festive lights, a stunning Christmas tree, and charming wooden stalls that created a warm and joyful atmosphere, even in the cold December air. There was a wide variety of food to try from traditional roasted chestnuts to mulled wine and hearty sausages. Each stall offered something unique, and the aromas alone were enough to make you stop and explore. Christmas music played in the background, and occasional live performances added to the festive vibe. Despite the crowds, everything felt organized and welcoming. One of the highlights of our visit was taking a horse chariot ride around the Old Town. It was a fun and peaceful 20 minute ride that gave us a unique view of the square and surrounding streets, all lit up for the season. It felt like stepping into a fairy tale. It was a memorable time and a highlight of our trip. If you’re in Prague during the holiday season, don’t miss the Old Town Square Christmas market, it captures the spirit of Christmas in the most enchanting way.

Absolutely breathtaking. Full stop. The Old Town Square is the heart of Prague — surrounded by stunning Gothic, Baroque, and Renaissance architecture that makes your jaw drop every time you look up. Between the Astronomical Clock, Týn Church, and those pastel-perfect buildings, it’s like walking into a Renaissance painting. Now let me be clear: it’s busy. I’m not exaggerating when I say thousands of people pack into that square during peak hours. Tour groups, buskers, horse carriages, influencers filming TikToks while nearly getting trampled — it’s organised chaos in the prettiest setting imaginable. Despite the crowds? Still a solid 5/5. It’s magical. Day or night. And somehow, even while shoulder-to-shoulder with half the population of Europe, it still feels worth it.

An absolute must-see in Prague! The Old Town Square is stunning — full of history, charm, and breathtaking architecture. The Astronomical Clock is fascinating, and the surrounding buildings and churches are beautiful both day and night. There’s always something happening, yet it still feels relaxed and magical. A perfect place to soak in the atmosphere of the city.

Prague, Czech Republic. Old Town Square is absolutely magical and a must-visit spot in Prague! The architecture is stunning, with historical buildings like the Church of Our Lady before Týn and the Old Town Hall Tower giving it a timeless charm. The Astronomical Clock show is fascinating—especially when the figures move on the hour. The square is lively with street performers, local artists, cafes, and shops. Whether you're enjoying a coffee while people-watching or soaking in the vibrant atmosphere at night, this place never disappoints. Highly recommended for history lovers and travelers alike!.

Very touristy area (me, a tourist commenting 😂). The square is big and surrounded by very beautiful buildings with terraces. Here is a stop point for the hop on/hop off bus and a station for a tiny “train” that gives one hour tours around Prague. And the most important attraction is the Astronomical Watch.

Fantastic place, plenty of places to sit and relax with a coffee or beer and take in the architecture of the old town. Everyone seemed to be really friendly. I don't think you will be disappointed visiting here. The food and drinks are great value even if you are sitting outside in the bars and restaurants.
